This is my go to bakery for either cookies or Italian pastries. The staff is always friendly and helpful and the baked goods are always excellent. It's so upsetting when you pick up a box of cookies and get them home to find out that they are stale. I've never had that issue here. As with most bakeries, they only accept cash. I live in Brookfield,Il and traveled to the Italian Bakery in Addison, Il and it was so worth the trip..The cannoli's were out of this world, so light and crispy as well as their mini lobster tails, I purchased 2 trays of an assortment of mini italian pastries for our 50th wedding anniversary and all my guest ranted and raved about them, especially the cannoli's and lobster tails,and was hoping I had more, also the staff was so easy to work with very personable and friendly. This Bakery was once good. It was our go-to Bakery. But now things must have changed. The staff was not polite. The food was not consistent in size or taste. The custard was not up to par like the olden days. The lobster tails were burnt and of and odd look. Lobster tails should be consistent in size. We are looking for a new bakery. Having moved it to the wood Dale area about a year ago I was in the market for a new Italian bakery, my favorite still to this day is Rueters in the city, and before that Claudio's in Elmwood Park off of North Avenue with that was still open, I found this place while looking at to buy pastries for Easter last year it can get really busy around the holidays or lions can wrap around the front of the bakery. Their pastries are not bad they are pretty good in fact, the problem I have is if their customer service is horrible, I tried to call them up to ask if I could put in a phone order to come and pick up, and they stated to me that they do not do phone orders come in and get your pastries first come first serve. Also I think it is ridiculous in Today's economy that there are businesses that still do not except debit or credit cards iand are cash only!! That is ridiculous, so if you live in the area and need some Italian bakery this place is not bad it is not the best but it will do for any type of get together or holiday that you are looking for good Italian pastries. read more

I am very glad that this place is a short drive from my house. There have been many times when we ran here to get desert for dinner parties. I always get an assortment of the mini pastries. My favorite is the lobster tail with an incredible cream surrounded by crisp flaky pastry. They fill their cannoli as they are ordered. Don't forget to get their cookies. I didn't read the sign until I was ready to pay, so I was forced to drive to Walgreen's across the street to use the ATM. I recently had an AMAZING cannolli experience with a food truck. However, theirs were very small, so of course I was left wanting more. I have been living in the area for almost 15 years now, and for some reason never even have thought of stopping by. The funny part is that I actually went to school with one of their daughters. Anywho! So my friend and I were in the search of another perfect cannolli experience, and came across this place on Yelp. I decided to pick some up for us, and oh boy! First off, these are the full size ones, none of that "mini" crap. And yes, wait for it, they are even cheaper than the mini ones from the food truck! As far as taste, these are better for one reason only, they are as fresh as it gets! When I first walked in I began scanning their displays and was very disappointing I didn't see them. I asked the lady, and she said the most glorious words I've ever heard; "Yes, we have them, but we fill them fresh for each order." I was like OMG!! Let me have them all! So sure enough, I ordered 5 of them and she filled them in for me. They were so amazing, the shell was nice and crunchy, and the filling was so creamy and sweet. OMG. Best one's I've ever had! My Italian neighbor recommended this place. She had all her kids's wedding cakes made there. So, she's been a customer for years. I have to say, their cannolis were the best, freshest I've ever had. They fill them fresh when you buy them to keep them crisp. The filling was so good. It leaves an amazing taste in your mouth. But, next time I'd ask for a more pistacio on the ends. I see places all over Chicago that claim to have the best cannolis, but, they don't. This place definitely has one of the best. We also loved these things called "lobster tails". They are crispy, cream-filled pastries. They are not like a cream puff though ... the dough is kind of like a cross between a buttery croissant and flaky phyllo. I also got a few almond paste cookies here. We like the "amaretti" cookies at Caputo's up the street much better. And, Caputo's were $3/lb cheaper. But, this place has a wide selection of cookies that are more reasonably priced ~$8/lb. I want to try their cakes. I would definitely recommend this place. The special pastries are so reasonably priced and delicious. You can pick up a dozen for under $20 for a party that will surely impress and blow away your guests. Bring cash. I really want to like this bakery more than I do. Their prices are right ($6.99 per lb for butter cookies) and they have a wide variety of options. This is not enough to keep my coming back. The last few times we have gotten cookies here, they have been stale. I couldn't find more then a few cookies in the whole 2 lbs that were tolerable. This is probably my second best cannoli place out of all the bakeries I have been to. The shell was super crunch and the cream inside was really delicate. They whipped the cream at a perfect peak to create that soft and melt in your month texture. The ricotta and sugar level was balanced. It is a perfect treat for an afternoon tea or after diner dessert. This shop's decoration was simple and there is no seating. Price point of all the pastries and cookies were good and ONLY accept CASH!! Overall, I am really satisfied with all the pastries and cookies I got. Whenever I'm going to a party, I stop by to pick up an assortment of treats because everybody has their own idea of what a great sweet is - some like the cannolis, some like the lobster claws, some like the tiramisu, some like eclairs - you get the idea... What a great way to bring an assortment to a party. Very reasonable prices and wide variety. If you're going right before the Christmas holiday... Cash only. This is important to know. When they say cash, they mean cash. Not just no credit cards, but no debit cards and no checks. Cash is king and there are signs all over to tell you so. Their bakery cookies are $6.99 per pound. Jarosch in Elk Grove Village (just as an example) are $16.40 per pound. The Italian Bakery had a wide variety and although, I know that they weren't all made that day (they never are), they were really tasty! Their mini-pastries are mostly $.85 each although a few were over a dollar each. They regular sized pastries were $1.85 each and a couple were over two dollars each. They have some seriously reasonable bakery prices. What they also have is a very simple storefront. Don't go in expecting to sit down and enjoy a pastry. It's not happening. Their bare storefront leaves plenty of room for the throngs of people to wait for their cannoli. No tables or chairs. It's all good. Finally, their bakery ladies are nice. Not falling all over themselves for you, but nice and willing to explain what things are if you don't already know. So stop in, get a full sized lobster tail pastry and head out to the car to eat it. Mainly because you'll have to go back in for a second one and I don't want you to drive home and waste gas. read more

Being italian I have eaten alot of cannoli!! If you're not keeping up, I didn't know until this month that I actually loved them because the first time I tried them they weren't up to par. Italian Bakery has made me an even bigger fan. It's a very small unassuming bakeshop in an Addison strip mall. It's pretty bare inside except for the colorful cookies and pastries in the cases. You can't go wrong with the prices here. They have mini size pastries in case you don't want a whole slice of tiramisu or a whole cannoli. What's gotten into me? I don't want a whole sized treat? But the mini sizes are a great way to sample without over-indulging. Your waistline will thank you--that is if you're worrying about your waistline. Anyway, most of the mini sized treats are 85cents. Wha??? Yes, 4 mini sized treats were under 4 bucks. I chose a mini tiramisu, a mini cream puff, a mini cannoli and a mini pretty pink piece that the lady told me was just sponge cake with a cream filling. Service is adequate. No smiles, kind of rushed me through. I found the snacks to just be OK. They're not overly sweet and they're definitely fresh and made on site. I guess I was just waiting to be wowed. Don't get me wrong, I'll be back...the biscotti looked good as did the array of cookies. Another customer was getting boxes some other cream filled goodie that looked amazing. This is hands-down my go-to for Italian pastries. This is coming from an Italian. And as an Italian, I"m not going to knock them from for cash only. However, it is important to know. Their prices on cookies by the pound is pretty good, similar to Caputo's. I believe last time I was there they were around $7/lb. That's not the reason I go there though. I go there for their amazing pastries. OHHHHH goodness. They come in two sizes and it's been a while since i've been there but I believe prices have gone up. A small will run around 80 cents while the large is $1.50. I recommend getting a large and splitting it. Their cannoli's are phenomenal. Make sure to ask for the ones in the back with the better outside. The ones in the case have a softer texture. Another goodie are their Napoleon's. I prefer the custard filling which have a white frosting as opposed to the cream filling with a black frosting. My favorite pastry is the monaquina (I have no idea how to spell it). It is a fluffy pastry exterior with a cannoli filling. They also make great cannoli cakes for any occasion. This used to be my favorite place for birthday cakes. Up until about 5 years ago. The combination of both a long drive (from Woodridge) and the inconvenience of cash-only made me search for something else. Cakes by Carlos in Lombard was a great find. Not only is the drive shorter, and not only do they accept credit cards, but the birthday cakes are actually better. Well, Cakes by Carlos does get a lot more praises from our guests, so it's not only me. Even still, I miss the Italian Bakery. I miss their cannoli immensely. That was my big joy in getting the birthday cake for my kid: the "extra" items I'd buy for the "adults" (as the kids weren't too big fans of cannoli). Nothing I've found more local can compare. And cookies too. Easily the best bakery cookies I've ever had as well. So how can I not give them 5 stars? I mean, it's my own stubbornness that keeps me away. I am so upset by the cake that was sent for my son's wedding I had to add more comments. We'll be looking at the pictures years from now remembering the plain looking cake that we received that was the result of them screwing up the order. Also the rude response from them when we reported it. We paid 250.00 for the plainest looking wedding cake I have ever seen. We are 30 year customers, have recommended them to many people over the years. No more...we are moving onto another bakery and will tell our friends about our horrible experience. The person we talked to told us...what am I supposed to do? While she was laughing. We suggested 2 pounds of cookies. After talking to the owner she responded...one pound of cookies. Give me a break. If I was the owner I would be ashamed. When I get a picture of the cake I will post it. We asked for cascading buttercream flowers and got three white cakes stacked on top of each other.
