I picked up a preorder of custom cookies and was disappointed with the result. I requested a smiley-face cookie but with a "D;" in the past all alternate designs have filled out the top of the cookie but this time the design was very small and left most of the cookie bare. When I asked for it to be fixed, I was told no one was on site to make any modifications and that they did not have access to the fudge icing. For a prepaid custom order, this was very frustrating and didn't match the quality I've experienced in the past. I've had good experiences before, but this felt like a noticeable drop in both quality and service. read more

I have been going to Sauers for years. Once a month I would but the chocolate Bismark filled with custard and the chocolate triangles. I recently bought them since Sauers was reopened with new owners. They said the recipes were the same, but the triangles and Bismark were not great as before. The frosting was cheap, not much filling, and the Bismark looked smaller; they tasted like grocery store bakery items. I won't purchase them again. I also bought wheat bread and it was so dry that we only ate 1/3 of the loaf. Just because it says Sauers doesn't mean the quality is the same. I will miss the real Sauer's Bakery. read more

The freshest bakery I have ever patronized! Their soft, pillowy donuts were delightful. The cookies are also so fresh they begin to fall apart when you handle them but their so so good! I went to Sauers when they reopened with the new owners. I was very impressed at how much everything tasted as good or better as the original owners. With that said, I have to admit that not being open on Sunday is a definite problem for me and my family. Also to be perfectly honest in this economy everything is expensive especially bakery goods but I will only me able go once in a while because the cost of a dozen donuts and a Swedish flop is just about the same as going out to a moderately priced restaurant. Ever since the change of ownership...the service and quality have gone way down. If you pay attention, they do not practice sanitation measures at all! They use bare hands to touch the food and then take your money or credit card to checkout and move right on to helping the next customer...with their bare hands. Gross! When I brought this to their attention...the girl helping me gave me a terrible attitude back. I insisted she wear gloves and she made a very rude comment to me. They raised the prices but quality went down. I'm so sad It's just not the same as it used to be. I hope nobody gets sick from the way they handle the food but I wouldn't be surprised. First time ever to leave a review. I purchased a dozen donuts for $30. The custard in the chocolate donuts was curdled and sour. All of the donuts tasted of grease and were dense. I'm willing to pay a premium for a high quality product. These didn't measure up. I'm willing to give the new ownership one more try to see if they can return this bakery to the high quality standards of the previous owners. So disappointed. read more

Drove about half an hour to this bakery in search of great Swedish flop. It's located in the corner of a shopping center near Army Trail and County Farm roads. The have a nice, wide variety of pastries, donuts, and coffee cakes and the young ladies working that morning were friendly and helpful. I came in search of their Swedish Flop. Arrived on a Saturday morning at 7am and there were about 5 Swedish flops in the case. I had ordered mine a couple days in advance to be sure I got one. The Swedish Flop did not disappoint. Easily some of the best flop made in the area. You can order it with traditional powder sugar top or glaze. I opted for the traditional powdered sugar. The buttercream center was delightfully light and creamy, and the pastry was wonderfully flaky and delicious. If you're on the hunt for Swedish Flop, this is a great place to go. I've never had a bad item there. I've ordered cookies, pastries, doughnuts, danish, brownies, cakes, and cupcakes. Everything tastes fresh and very well made. It's not inexpensive but you do get top quality items and the staff is generally very nice and helpful. I usually get a few doughnuts when o go there. The triangle ones are delicious and deadly. They have a butter cream frosting filling and send you into a sugar coma within minutes. The chocolate cake ones are classic and yummy. The pastries are really outstanding. I recommend the eclairs or any of the fruit squares they have. I've also had the strudel. It's light and flakey, and out of this world. It's closed on Mondays, as are many bakeries, but if your passing by (it's in the corner of a strip mall), take the time to pass by and look at their selection. It's close to me, so it's easy to stop by and pick up a few items each time. Everything is good there. read more

The food has always been, and cntinues to be, outstanding. My only complaint was I had to change my order by phone 5 minutes after I placed it. It went to the answering machine. When I picked up the cake the change had not been made. The young girl behind the counter told me "We don't listen to messages on the machine - we get so many." So if you need to make a change - speak to someone in person. Directing customers to call to make order changes, and having no time to listen... not a way to run a successful business. read more

Still a great bakery. The chocolate dipped almond cookies are my favorite. This year we finally got around to ordering some paczki. We also grabbed a few from Caputo's (who has their own bakery) for comparison and Sauer's is the clear winner. Sure, you'll pay more, but it's absolutely worth it! Not that you have to tell all the people who were walking out with their treats this morning. We only picked up a few flavors: Cherry - Pretty good and very fresh tasting. Raspberry - Just ok. I didn't care for it as much as my husband did. Strawberry - These cost more because fresh strawberries are used, but personally we could do without. Would probably pass on these in the future. Cheese - The filling is creamy like a custard. The flavor reminds me of what cheesecake tastes like before it's baked. In other words, delicious, and our absolute favorite flavor so far. We'll definitely be ordering paczki from here again next year and trying some other flavors. read more

Their cookies awesome , I've talked to people who say they are expensive .. if this is the quality you expect to get for your Dollar then your Dollar is well spent. Not a bad place by any means! I visited on a Saturday at around 10:30 in the morning to 11:30 in the morning. I order two of those butternut cream-filled donut-like triangles, two cinnamon twists, a custard-filled donut, and two other things I cannot remember which weren't any of the items I ordered above. The restaurant itself was pretty clean. There were some shelves against the walls with items on them, and a sign with some words on a shelf above the kitchen entryway. It was a positive saying, I just don't remember what it said. Like I said, very clean and orderly. I normally don't touch on the staff in my reviews, but the staff here were very nice. All of them looked happy to serve us and we're paying full attention. There were only four total customers in the store, to be exact. A lone shopper, and my party with three people. You like to see it. The employees happily cashed out our order and we left. Before I forget, I should probably mention the food. I have seen some people say the food was average, but I thought almost everything was scrumptious! First of all, I'd say 40% of the pastries were gone when we arrived. The stuff left was still good, but I am eager to return and try some stuff that wasn't present when I visited. The place opens really early though, which I respect, but that means if you want the full selection, you have to wake up early. Onto the actual food, the cinnamon-twists were the third best thing of the meal, but still good. They were light and the amount of sugar was just right. Definitely recommend getting it. The second best thing of the meal was the buttercream-filled triangles. They were essentially triangle-shaped donuts filled with buttercream. Of course, the buttercream was tasty and the rest of the treat was tasty as well. Very good, I recommend it. The best thing I got was the custard-filled donut. The custard still tasted delicious and the dough was light and chewy, which was nice. The frosting was chocolatey and was the cherry on top. Terrific! In the end, I would come back here again... only earlier. The donuts were delicious, the staff was friendly, and the atmosphere was awesome. I would definetly recommend this place! read more

Out of convenience, we passed by here on the way home at 4pm on a Saturday afternoon, and picked up a few items. It's not the best time to check out a bakery, as some are already closed by then, but what items we did get and try immediately were still quite good given the time of day - raspberry roll, apple fritter, and a boston custard roll. They were long out of their $0.99 cupcakes and the popular apple cider doughnuts. We also picked up an Irish soda bread, and later found it to be disappointingly dried out and a bit blandish. Every time I go to the eye doctor (across County Farm from this bakery), I always make a point to stop in and get some sort of pastry. They have coffee cakes, cupcakes, frosted cookies, fruit breads, Italian-style small cookies, Swedish flop, braids (I think), and I'm sure some more items that I missed because I wasn't looking for them in particular. On my most recent trip there, I tried the cheese pocket and a blueberry bread. I had to eat the cheese pocket as soon as I got in my car. Bad idea...it's so flaky and powdered-sugary, it gets all over the place, even when you're trying to be careful! I didn't have any napkins, which means a mess on my shirt and my car seat. I guess I could have waited a second to eat it at home! As if the large cheese pocket wasn't enough, I cracked open the blueberry bread as well. I had nowhere to be, I didn't eat breakfast, and it looked delicious (as you can see from the photo). It's flavor and texture matched it outer beatify. I declare it to be the softest, moistest and tastiest blueberry bread in all the land. It has some sort of crumble and sprinkling of white sugar on top. It's the length of a meatloaf pan, but half the width. My husband and I had hefty portions yesterday, and I ate the rest this morning at breakfast. Still craving more. I can't wait to go back and try the Swedish flop next time. I recommend stopping in, or ordering a cake or cookies for an event from this bakery. read more
