This is a nice simple old fashioned bakery. No frills. Local people serving up a delicious variety of baked goods from behind a counter. It's not fancy pastries, but simple scones, fruit strudels, pies, donuts, and breads. No room to sit. Barely room to stand. The space is reserved for the baking. And there's a lot to choose from in this tiny space. They do exactly what you come to a bakery for. They serve delicious goods quick and reasonably price. No pretentious mochacino BS. Headed to the burbs and wanted to swing by after a recommendation from a friend who has been sending me paczki photos from this place over the past few days. I wanted to pick up a paczki, as I recently learned from 23andme that I'm pretty substantially Polish and will use any excuse to eat pastries, so tapping into my heritage works for me. They have 4 different flavors each day. I opted for a raspberry option and it was everything I would have hoped for. I went about an hour after opening and it was super fresh. I had never been here before but everything in the display case looked amazing. I wish I would have tried some other pastries, too. Reasonably priced, too, at $2.80 after tax. Hahns Bakery is a classic little stop for basic baked goods. Here you can find cinnamon rolls that have been sitting out, cakes, cookies, and breads. The man working there was really friendly and offered us a free donut- free donut fridays! For the cleanliness and quality of the space and baked goods, their prices were a little steep. The kitchen was visible and it was really messy and it seemed like they use box mix/non-fresh ingredients. This is totally fine for what it is- a small classic bakery, but it was pretty expensive. The coffee station was unceremoniously stuffed in the corner on a little table - just an office carafe you fill your own paper cup out of. Hahns could easily be a 4 star place if they just cleaned a bit- clutter aside, it was genuinely messy in there. We got bread and it was pretty good, nothing special. read more

I offered to pick up our office pies for Thanksgiving and Hahn's was the bakery I was sent to. The aroma from the second I opened the door immediately transformed me into this quaint and quite literally....slice of heaven in Geneva that filled all my senses to their delight. I was there for a pick up, yet I wanted to taste and devour everything. I love supporting what is clearly a family owned company and the care in which they make every pastry and the customer service they provided was warm and friendly. Wow! Best crumb cake EVER! Beyond... dare I say.. moist. The pieces are beyond huge and the container weighed more than my left arm. I bake sourdough at home and sometimes I don't have the time, therefore on the hunt for a bakery who can provide FRESH sourdough. I found Hahns and thought to give them a try. I placed an order for 2 loaves of fresh sourdough bread for pickup the next day at 9am; $8.50/loaf. I arrived 30 minutes early for pickup and I am so glad I did because I had the opportunity to see that my bread was in fact previously frozen; freezer burn and ice covering the frozen solid slices. When I asked the young man at the counter if the bread was previously frozen, he said "Yes it was, all bread is frozen after we bake because we bake at 4am and then immediatly freeze to keep fresh." I questioned him and asked again because that seems very odd. He continued to assure me this was the process of how they handle all their baked bread. I know this could not be true because it takes 45 minutes to bake a loaf and a few hours to cool it before it can be cut and bagged. The ice build up on that bread was from a deep freeze, something you see when bread is frozen for a few days or more. I sent an email to them asking if this was true, and this was their response: "We sincerely apologize. Your order came through later in the afternoon yesterday and the bakers this morning did not have enough fresh bread so bread was taken from the freezer. This should have been shared with you right away at pick up. I have refunded order. I hope you can give us another try in the future." I will not purchase from them again as their baked goods are NOT FRESH. They legit sold previously frozen bread that is clearly marketed as fresh and then lied to me about it. If they would have mentioned that they dont have the time to bake the bread for Friday 830am pickup, I would still be a customer and would have simply waited for fresh loaves. Without trust, there is no deal. The hunt for an honest baker continues. read more

As we left Graham's Chocolates we walked across the street to discover Hahn's Bakery. On the outside you see what might look like a German Bakery. Inside i experienced the delightful smell and sight of an old fashioned Bakery. Since we visited the bakery on Fat Tuesday we were rewarded with paczki. As I talked with the owner baker i discovered that he was originally from New York state around the Buffalo area. We talked about the German version of paczkis known as Fastnachts. He was willing to stir up a batch of Fastnachts for us. Such a Bakery is a vanishing breed but well worth the visit. Such bakeries should be frequented and not ignored for the big box grocery or store. They are worth the cost. read more

Hahn's has a stand at the Mt Prospect Farmer's Market and I have purchased their things occasionally. Generally, their baked things are good, but nothing special. I had a rather startling, almost comical experience with them a couple weeks ago. I had chosen one of their multi grain breads and was stunned when they told me, "That will be "$7.50". Wow. But I decided , well OK I guess I'll just get it. Then after taking my money, the young fellow behind the counter, after conferring with his young supervisor, came back and told me "Sorry, that will be $8 - an extra 50 cents because it's sliced." What !!! I was stunned, and laughed (that was the comical part) and told them to give me my money back, which they did. The Hahn Bakery should understand that their bread is good, but nothing special. I can get bread as good or better at many other places for $5 or $6. (Which is just what I did) And, NOBODY charges extra for slicing. Nobody. Maybe it was a comedy routine ? read more

This is a small bakery with few selection. The service were a couple of young, friendly kids who actually were very knowledgeable about the different products they were selling. The people in front and behind me asked questions, and both of them were able to answer and assist their customers, which is rare to see at their age I feel like! 5 stars for the 2 friendly employees! On to the goods: I ordered a cinnamon roll and a smiley face iced cookie. Both were stale. I'm not surprised the cinnamon rolls were as they were just sitting on a baking sheet on top of the counter? Not in a case. The only reason I decided to try anyways, was because as you walk by this place, it smells like cinnamon rolls, so I thought it must be good right? No... it should really be called a roll with frosting, because there was no cinnamon... The cookies were definitely stale. I don't know that I've ever had a stale cookie before, but I know that it was not right. The bakery lobby itself, is very small and a lot of product is crammed into a small space. Nothing is labeled. Huge disappointment. I buy bread here frequently and occasional treats for my neighbors. The bread is often old and hard or soggy depending on the type. Pretzels and cookies are old, and donuts are made outside on parking spot under tent when it's raining. Recently there are four to five employees working and they do not wear a masks until client walks in. I would loved to support small business but why when the business owner who is working does not follow any safety and does not even recognize the clients or exchange social curtesy. read more

Some things are great, but some are not. We recently stopped by this quaint bakery and purchased a variety of items. The hits: The bread was very good, with a nice crust and slightly chewy texture. Also delicious was the giant shareable (or not!) cinnamon-sugar cookie thing. It was quickly nibbled into oblivion, and left us wishing we had bought 2. The misses: The carrot cake was just okay. The Boston Creme muffin needed more filling. Both were a bit dry. The Kolachky were also just okay; they lacked flavor. Is it my go-to bakery right now? Nope. Will I be back to try more treats? If I could give Hahn's zero stars, I would. The owners hire students and young college kids, and do not pay them on time, pay cash instead of check, or don't pay them at all. They say they pay these kids weekly, but don't. They are often behind on paying employees. They get upset if you question your pay. My daughter had a horrible experience and is a wonderful kid! Avoid them at all costs. The staff reports the kitchen is dirty and bakery items stale. They do not have an appreciation for staff or customers, and run a terrible business. It was a disappointing experience overall. There are much better businesses in the community to support! read more

Just moved to Geneva, and so glad to have found my go-to bakery! Everything in this shop looks SO GOOD and tastes really fresh. The guy working was absolutely fantastic! He was very welcoming, offered great suggestions, and even let me try a donut on the house! I ended up buying a bunch of cookies and pretzels rolls - all of which were pretty awesome. I'm totally going back to try baguettes and scones next! Prices are reasonable, and the location is great. There isn't much parking, so be prepare on the weekends! I swear I turned around on the street and there you were, Hahn's Bakery! I walked in, and those years in Europe flooded my mind again. The bread looks just like it is in Europe. Oh it tastes quite close to it, so much so, ...so good! Ordered; The Pumpernickel with the raisins (golden seedless?) was so good..no taste overpowered anything ..quite balanced in taste. Ordered: Made from scratch with an all butter pastry 10" deep dish Wild Blueberry pie. My mouth surrendered, I was so glad I was in for the day with milk nearby....what a beauty it was even though it was slightly deformed by my left turn onto Ogden Avenue (bottled water slammed into the container with blueberry pie within)..see photo. I'd advise to load up on stuff from here. I just had too many food conquests for the day lined up to shop heavy beforehand. This place has a website and they ship. This is one of the top bakeries out there. They've been doing this for, I believe, over 20 years. When you make this product and are around for that long, you are probably doing something right. Are you ever too full to walk into a new Bakery? The answer is a surprising yes! My sweet hubby and I were doing the caffeine cruise through the Fox Valley and I was already on a coffee/lunch high when I walked through their doors. Everything looked great in the abstract but nothing was cooing their calories in my direction, no sweet murmurs were urging me to indulge. But true professionals can shake off satiation, regain their focus and get their head in the game. (Cue HS Musical.) I reached back into the Yelp reservoir of reviews I keep in my head, scanned Catherine P's and blurted out "Pretzel rolls, I would like four pretzel rolls, please." A walk off home run for this Yelper. Hours later, we were home and it was dinner time and out came the bakery bag. How about ham sandwiches on pretzel rolls for dinner, honey? I was introduced to these delicious delights at the Wheaton Farmers' Market. Since I was in Geneva, I felt compelled to visit the brick and mortar location from which the market stand was born. I must confess, they bring the whole kit and caboodle to the market, as best I can tell. There were some cookies that are not usually present at the market, but I went for the tried and true ~ brownies, crumb cakes, and carrot cake. Why haven't I written a review for Hahn's Bakery before now? This is a very good question. I am guessing that it always feels like a dream (come true) when I visit and that my sub-conscience doesn't want me to share the details with others in the fear that they will run out of my favorites. But that's just a guess. Okay, so it is a fairly small storefront and it can get crowded. Claustrophobic people should wait right outside on the bench or in a nearby parking space. They are pretty easy to come by as people are always coming and going in this area. When you walk in, you will be greeted by a buttery, sweet, fresh out of the oven aroma that will make you want to move in and change your mailing address to 303 Franklin Street in Geneva! But try to resist and just pick out a few goodies to try on your first visit. Don't worry, you'll be back. My hubby loved the carrot cake with frosting! I tried a bite and it was moist and delicious. It is wrapped like a giant cupcake. I was worried that it would be dry. I was very wrong. My son is a fan of all of their muffins. My favorites include the everything but the kitchen sink cookie, their pretzel rolls and a Danish/pastry which has cinnamon, sugar and nuts. It's sweet with a hint of saltiness. It's flaky and really, really good. And it's pretty large so you can share it or make a few snacks out of it...or not. ;-) read more

An old-fashioned bakery just off the main Third Street drag. We stopped in after lunch and the place was hopping with people. Once we figured out how to get inside (hint: the door is on the right, in the side wall), we were faced with all kinds of goodies. The cookies looked like kiddie fare: M&M-strewn or painted with colored icing. We went for the bread and the baked goods. All told we got a pretzel roll, donuts and a mini apple streusel cake. The donuts are what cake donuts should be: slightly fluffy and springy, chocolate frosting; I could have lived without the sprinkles, but can't complain too much. The pretzel roll was smaller than the ones I regularly get at Trader Joe's and had a leathery texture and was lacking in salt but otherwise had a decent taste. My mom liked her apple crumbcake, which was drizzled with caramel and was pleasantly moist (sometimes those things can be dry). Definitely the place for donuts, and I would branch out to other goodies as well based on our findings here. Hands down, Hahn's is a solid choice for tasty baked goods in downtown Geneva. read more

Our mother who was celebrating her 89th birthday with family. We ordered a sheet cake for 16 people a week before her birthday at Hahn's bakery. The day before the party, we received a call from a woman at Hahn's bakery stating they could not make the cake, as their decorator was sick. I asked if they could just frost the cake and do a simple "happy 89th birthday" on the cake with no decorations, just that simple phrase. She said no, they could not. We called back later to talk to the owner, who said the decorator was sick and no one could frost the cake and would not be able to put the simple phrase, "happy 89th birthday," on the cake. The reason he gave was, I wanted the cake a half hour earlier than originally stated the week before that I ordered the sheet cake, and told me to use another bakery in North Aurora instead. I told him We had the party scheduled for the next day for 16 people and this put a great disadvantage on trying to secure a cake during valentine day weekend. It was obvious to us, that he did not care about our predicament, and we felt he was not happy that I requested the cake a half hour earlier in the afternoon than originally ordered the week prior. After many frantic calls to area bakeries including the one he suggested in North Aurora To be told they were not able to accommodate our order on a valentine day weekend, they were full with orders. We were able to order the sheet cake at Costco bakery, Which was delicious and it cost less and was a larger cake to boot with a cream filling! I always did love going into Hahn's bakery and getting cute seasonal cookies for our grandsons who always loved their cookies. However, after this unfortunate situation, I will never enter their door again. Hahn's unfortunately has Poor uncaring customer service. I would not recommend using this bakery if you want a cake for a very special occasion only to be told they are not going to do it a day before your event! read more

Smells like my childhood. I spent a lot of time with my grandparents and my Grandmother worked at a bakery that smelled just like this place - heavenly. I had to linger after placing our order. It made me happy and sad all at the same time. My husband and I got some treats to go. I had a brownie which was very rich but a bit dry for my taste. This place smells unreal when you walk in. They have a variety of cookies, little cheesecakes, at least four different kinds of scones, and then baguettes and other types of bread. This in addition to brownies, fruit freeform tarts, etc., etc. If you're looking for white cardboard-flavored cupcakes or sheet cakes colored in improbable icing, look elsewhere. The pecan rolls are amazing. And I say that as someone who bakes. Prices are reasonable (and not, as far as I could see, posted). I got a giant fougasse-type country bread for $5, with my amazing pecan roll, a yummy buttercream topped pumpkin cake and a tasty scone (not too dry) for $12 total. Friendly staff, too. read more

Ohhhhh, Hahn's....how I love thee. I almost cried the last time we were in Geneva and we were too late to get in at Hahn's. But who the heck am I? They're a bakery, they close early. They have wonderful breads, pastries, and cakes. Some might say they are a little pricey and I would agree, but I don't live in Geneva, or too close, so it's a treat a few times a year. They are right off 3rd street and Franklin....and right across from Grahams so of course, I feel like a little piggy walking from Hahn's to Grahams with my arms full of bakery goodness, but who am I trying to impress?! I wasn't sure what to get since they didn't have donuts so I got a cinnamon roll and my husband an apple tart. When I got in the car I was very surprised at how hard the outside of the cinnamon roll was. There was no way it was made that day. It literally had to be from the day before or even before that. The apple tart my husband did not like but I tried it and it was ok, nothing I would go back for. It wasn't horrible but I'm more irritated that the food was old more than anything. Not going back. Hahn's bakery is a vendor at Lisle, French Market on Saturday. Had a blueberry supreme on Saturday. Incredible is one word I could come up with for this moist, heavenly delicious treat. I could only eat half at one sitting. Don't worry about the other half because you will eat it as soon as room is made. Can't wait to try other creations. As often as we have strolled around Geneva we had previously missed Hahn's bakery since it is just off the main shopping street downtown. This time, however, we parked on the same street as the bakery and as we passed we were drawn in by the smell of their delicious donuts being fried outside. We had tried their donuts before at the Wheaton French Market & they are darn good. So we made it a point to stop in after our day of holiday shopping before heading home. They have quite a variety to choose from from standard & savory breads to plenty of sweets such as cookies, pies, cakes, pastries, etc. There was just one sign listing prices on the side of one of the display cases but no signs in front of the items in the cases letting you know what's what so there were a lot of customers asking "what's that one over there?" of the staff for the less-than-obvious selections. Since we don't go to bakeries all that often we usually get a couple of things to try over a couple of days. You know, so I can give a more balanced review on their offerings, wink-wink. We took home an apricot pastry, a small stollen (German fruitcake bread & they also carried large ones), a couple of slices of raspberry crumb cake and 4 little pieces of what looked like petit fours (I forget what they are called but these were sliced into portions rather than coated with chocolate/icing on all 4 sides so theirs had 2 sides exposed so you could see the 3 layers of colored cake). The apricot pastry was okay but a bit of a soggy bottom & the edges were not crisp, though we purchased at 5 p.m. an hour before they closed so they had been sitting around all day...I'm sure it would have been perfect had we been there earlier in the day. The stollen was perfect (they are meant to be a bit on the dry side). The Hubs loved the raspberry crumb cake but to me it was really just a big piece of good yellow cake with raspberry jam swirled on top and then the crumb topping...while it tasted good it wasn't what I think of for a crumb cake as far as the cake part was concerned. The little "petit four" type goodies we bought were too dry, however, and the chocolate/icing around them didn't have much flavor at all.
