Went in today to get some cookies for a group of people. I came here after being ignored at another Geneva bakery. The place smells delicious...like so delicious The cookies were a hit-because I cannot bake to save my life, thank goodness this bakery is here. I got some vanilla frosted cookies with sprinkles Kitchen sink cookies Espresso cookies... The cookies are huge and run from 2.00-2.50 a piece... The people I gave them to asked where I had gotten them...they loved them. The two younger gentlemen who were were very nice a patient with a woman who clearly did not know what she wanted because everything looked so good. I looked around to their other goodies and they looked delicious...I'll be back to try other goodies.... This is a very solid bakery. It's old school - but sometimes a little too much. Everything I have tried here has been excellent. But there are some downsides. I never know what will be on the menu at any given time. Today I went in hoping for donuts, I ended up with muffins. There were no donuts to be had. My hope is that someday they might post the current offerings online and save me a trip. The cost is also not very transparent. And frankly, they are a bit over priced on certain things. (I paid 22 bucks for six muffins - I can get 4 of similar quality at Marianos for 5 bucks.) High quality items, but I wish they had a little more polish in the presentation to customers. read more

I first found out about them at the Wheaton French Market. They have a pretty big stand on the NE corner facing north. They always bring a good selection of bread loaves, baguettes, sandwich buns, pastries, desserts, and other baked goods. I would see people order this and that, then I saw someone order the pretzel baguette for $2. It is by FAR the best bargain at the French Market. So I finally got a chance to go to their bakery in Geneva. It's on a pretty quiet street away from 3rd Street. Angled street parking can be hit or miss, but there's more parking spaces nearby. Otherwise, park wherever you can since there are other places you may want to check out. The entrance is on the far right of the building. The bakery display case is no bigger than the French Market tables, but obviously this is where they bake all their goods. There are plenty of cookies and the same things you find at the French Market, but then I saw this blueberry crumble tart which was cut in half and filled with custard. Since you pay tax here, it ran a little under $4. I went elsewhere for some coffee and this was one of the best desserts I've ever had and I usually don't eat something like that at 4 in the afternoon. I was slightly disappointed that the same pretzel baguette was $2.75 here but overall, this is a solid local bakery for treats that are different as well as some regular home baked staples like their bread. read more

Good, old-fashioned bakery. I went in to see what side options I could put together for my inlaw's 50th (ie rugelach) and ended up buying the crumb cake. Approx 8x8 in size, it was $11. I love crumb cake and the cake itself is delicious but no way could I serve this to 70+ yr olds -- it's almost like candy on the top and may break a tooth.I should have read Lupe d.'s review... The cookies and doughnuts looked delightful! The cinnamon rolls and other delights looked fantastic. Certainly a delicious stop as you're shopping beautiful downtown Geneva! read more

Well, I really wanted to support this small business in our town of Geneva. I ordered 2 elongated loaves of French bread 3 days ahead of my scheduled pickup date. One of them I paid extra for having it sliced. Ashley Hahn (so I assume an owner?) emailed me saying they would have them ready on Friday for pickup. Went in midday Friday. The young man plopped 2 loaves on the top of the case for me. One elongated. One round. I said, "oh I am sorry. I ordered 2 like this. Not a round. And one was to be sliced." He said, "Well our slicer is broken. And this is all we have." And in a tone that told me I'd certainly be putting him out, "I could slice it by hand for you, if you really want." I told him it was ok. And just took the loaves. The round one is a very awkward shape for what I intended to use it. I feel that if they don't have a working slicer they shouldn't be charging extra online and taking my money. I will say the bread was quite tasty, but I know I can get the same or better elsewhere and better service. Too bad. read more

I come to this bakery at least once a month for a loaf of their multigrain bread or pretzel rolls. They bake their bread daily and if you time it right, you can smell the bread baking about a block away. They do sell baked goods such as cupcakes, cinnamon rolls, and muffins, but they look like they are on steroids and just too glutinous for me. I do admit that on occasion I stop in on a Friday because they give out free donuts until around 2:00. I usually grab a glaze and then walk across the street to Graham's for a small vanilla ice cream where I then crush the donut in my ice cream. Yummy!! read more

I wish I could bottle the smell from Hahn's Bakery and release it in my place...it smells so good! Since it was our first time there, I asked the guy working behind the cases what their specialty was - he said it was the crumb cake. Which flavor? Cinnamon - ok - sold. Boy he did not lie - this is the type of crumb cake where the crumb topping is as thick as the cake. And the flavors were completely on point. If I lived closer, this would always be my hostess gift when visiting friends/family. The store offers many cookies, cupcakes, cakes and breads. But since we had already visited another bakery in the area, we decided to just try each bakery's specialty - so happy we did. Hope to return soon! read more

I just had some amazing cotton soft focaccia bread. Saw the Hahn's Bakery store label and then came straight to Yelp to check this bakery out. They're out in Geneva, IL! Well, thank goodness they have a stand in Chicago's downtown Prudential Plaza Farmer's Market because if not I would not have discovered this gem! And I don't really have a reason to go to Geneva, IL either and would never have known it existed. Two 8' foccacia bread for $6. And it's not even your subpar bread from Jewel. It's soft and fluffy. I'm not sure how anyone could like the donuts, first of all. They are SO greasy and oily-tasting that my two bites left a ridiculously awful after-taste in my mouth. I don't know if they were fried in rancid oil or what, but I found them absolutely disgusting. That's why I can't give this place a better review, because... The cinnamon rolls with frosting? OH MY HEAVEN. Even stale. We didn't get to ours right away (and I'm kicking myself, because I can only imagine how good they are fresh), and even with a day's age on them, they are sinful. The frosting is just to die for. The only other thing we tried were the pretzel rolls, and they are also really delightful. This place is a vendor at Wheaton's French Market (Apr. thru early Nov.). They have an awesome array of sweets, including cupcakes, brownies, soft pretzels, and various types of crumb cakes. The apple is to die for! The only reason I can't give them five is because I haven't tried everything yet, and their prices seem steep for some items (2.50 for that big of a brownie? Make it bigger or price it down!!) There's no doubt I'll be heading to Geneva to get some during the Winter Months. I see a 5 star rating in the future!!!! GO TRY THIS PLACE! read more

I have to write this all down before I forget what happened. The experience almost seems like a dream. My wife and I had lunch today in Geneva. Then we went for s stroll. She spotted Hahn's and said we should pick up something for breakfast tomorrow. So we wander in. Two teenage boys are on the job. One is drizzling frosting over a load of cinnamon (sp?) rolls. The other is handling the retail counter. Another teen walks in. All three are nice looking kids. He asks to see "Mr. Hahn." He's looking for a job. It's apparent he knows the others. Mr. Hahn himself enters from the side door, toting a heavy box. The young man steps forward and introduces himself. Mr. Hahn asks why he's there. He explains he's looking for a job. Mr. Hahn says he doesn't have any applications at the moment. Then he stops and looks at the kid and asks if it would be his first job. The young man didn't try to BS Mr. Hahn. Yeah, it would be his first job. Hahn thought a second. He asked the boy if he could start right then. The youngster said yes. Hahn apologized for butchering his name. He made a joke about his "East Coast accent." Then he told one of the other teens to fetch an apron. The young man could start by "shadowing" the lad on frosting duty. My wife and I stared at each other. Had we stepped into an Archie comic book? Was this 2017 or 1958? A boy walks in and asks for a job. A kindly shop owner who looks and sounds like Ozzie Nelson asks if he can start right then...just like that! Done and done. It was so cool. Even if the cinnamon roll tastes like Portland Cement tomorrow morning, I don't care. Mr. Hahn gets five stars for being a nice man. read more

The only thing I've gotten here is the blueberry tart, but it's amazing! Not to sweet, flavorful, and the crust is chewy and caramelized, not dry. This isn't the type of bakery care to sit at and enjoy, but more designed to take home and eat. They do have some tables and a coffee station. The staff is friendly. I would order specialty cookies for an event from here. They were nice to my kids which I always appreciate! It's off third street but it can be easy to miss. It isn't modern/trendy like gluten free cupcake shops, but just sells classic delicious treats. read more

I discovered Hahn's Bakery at the Wilmette, IL Farmer's Market where I starting buying their Cinnamon Scones. Recently I contacted Linda Hahn to see if they would ship scones to Wilmette. I'm not sure that they regularly shipped their baked goods or not but Ms. Hahn was extremely accommodating. She shipped four dozen scones that arrived the next day in perfect condition. I can't say enough about the quality of their baked goods. Also, there concern and helpfulness to their customers is outstanding. read more

We went into this place while strolling through Geneva yesterday in search of a wide selection of bakery cookies that you can order by the pound. But we were saddened to see only a few types of small cookies and there were $.55 each! I thought that a bit high so we opted for a few other items. I chose a cupcake, my sister got a giant M&M cookie, my husband got a pretzel roll and my brother-in-law got a danish with raspberry (I think) in the middle. The M&M cookie was so good! It had such good flavor and was probably about an inch thick!! The pretzel roll was so moist and sweet and salty at the same time...delicious! I didn't try the danish but my brother-in-law said it was good and then there's the cupcake. The cake part was super moist and delicious (the edges were a bit overcooked, but that's just me being picky) but the frosting left a slight oil slick type feeling on the roof of my mouth, but it was not too bad, I just scraped off some of the frosting, but I was impressed with the moistness of the cake! And it is hard for a cake to impress me! The service was decent, we were the only ones in there and the guy behind the counter was less than enthusiastic about us being there, but he wasn't rude or anything, just a little "high" looking. But that wouldn't stop me from going back, in fact I plan on going back probably even as soon as this week! Try it out for yourself, I think it is worthwhile! Anytime I come to Geneva for a summer day stroll I always stop in at Hahn's and grab a blueberry scone. These aren't your run-of-the-mill scones that are dry and leave crumbs everywhere. These scones will melt in your mouth, are moist, and have loads of berries in them! They have tons of pastries, breads, and pies, too so don't be shy :) read more

This place has all things that are good, at least of the baked variety. My wife and I stopped in while walking around Geneva one day on a whim. Her mom has raved about this place for years, and we like all things that are good, so we decided to give it a try. Must I say that I'm glad we did? We bought some kind of delicious streusel cake with streusel as thick as thieves and just as delicious. I want it again. Now. After an amazing lunch my friend and I ended up doing a mini bakery crawl through Geneva...so not planned but Im SO glad we did!!! Hahn's bakery was first on our list, we walked in and you could smell the bread cooking and the cases were full of breads, cakes, cookies and cinnamon rolls. After reading a few reviews we decided to each get a cinnamon roll to try. These cinnamon rolls were huge and I knew I would like them already because they came with no icing on them, usually I dont eat cinnamon rolls cause the icing tends to make them way to sweet. I brought it home and ate it for breakfast the next day after putting it in the microwave for about 1 minute to make it all warm and yummy. OMG I will promise you that you will NOT miss the icing at all!!! The roll was flakey and filling with the cinnamon goodness that was throughout the roll. By far the BEST cinnamon roll I've ever had....Cinnabon who!!!! 2 cinnamon rolls were only $6...I didnt think that was to bad for the size they were!!! I cant wait to go back and try the leave cookies and of course get more cinnamon rolls!! read more

The good is a few years back I ordered cupcakes for my daughters bday party and they were very good and BIG! Not decorated quite like I asked, but that's ok. So since then, have gone a few times for cookies, pastries, etc. Has tasted stale every time. Nothing tastes fresh. They must be using 1-2 day old baked goods, and they charge a pretty penny. Also, customer service is pretty bad. I have never felt welcome here, just always feel like employees are annoyed to wait on me. Will probably not be back. read more

I went into Hahn's Bakery for the first time today and boy what a disappointment!!! First impression is the place looks like it hasn't been updated since the 50's. Second impression was that there was not even a hint of bakery smells. The display counters were dark and full of "day-old" baked goods only. Can you imagine "day-old" doughnuts!? Everything looked "day-old" or worse. This place is nothing like a European bakery by any stretch of the imagination! In Europe bread and pastries are made fresh throughout the day and the customers would never find only "day-old" products available. Never mind only "day-old"! DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME GOING HERE!! I was drawn to this little bakery since I had heard that they offer free doughnuts on Friday. I was a bit skeptical, since free food is rare to find without a catch. Was excited to try this local bakery and unfortunately we were disappointed. Saturday morning I would have expected fresh but we got. Cinnamon rolls and they were hard and cold in the middle. Obviously baked a prior day and even trying to scrape some frosting off and popping in the oven couldn't salvage them to the gooey soft warm consistency I expect in a roll. Frosting flavor was good but overall very bummed. Not sure if we will be coming back if the quality is yesterday's leftovers :( I gave an extra star as the cinnamon sugar donuts the hubs picked up were decent. read more
