Bake house buffet desserts
Ernie H.

This is for the buffet. It's not the prettiest and the food looks a little wanting BUT and this is a good BUT there's a lot of selections and they taste Great! Don't let the looks fool you the Sisig may not be crispy but it taste way better than average same with the paksiw na Lechon. Special mention also to the Igado its excellent just the right amount of liver. The pork ceviche is also recommended. The desserts alone here is worth the price$11.95. They have sans rival, pianono, coffe cake/tiramisu, halo halo etc.. Come and patronize this place, so they can continue to give Filipino food options in the Glendale Hts area.

Very good Filipino buffet! All you can eat, Saturday and Sunday only. $8.99 includes appetizers (eggrolls, kikiam, bbq sticks), soup, rice (fried and white), hot entrees (lots of adobo - pork, chicken, squid, pork ribs) diniguan, pancit, kare kare, lots of desserts, and even 3 fruit based drinks. The buffet is fairly new, ever since the beauty shop next door closed. Hopefully enough people come to keep it open, but not too many that lines form or prices go up. This is definitely a hidden gem.

I actually came here for the hot lunch, but ended up getting a lot of random ube pastries, egg rolls, and empanadas. I've had bad experiences with baked empanadas at other bakeries being dried and crumbling instead of flaky. So when I took a bite of theirs, I was super happy to find that they were able to get that flakiness I love so much. Faith restored! The little cup of lumpia were about $5 a pop, so I opted in getting the big vegetable spring rolls. A little greasy, but tasty. The lechon/pork stew I ordered from their hot bar area tasted pretty good as well. My problem was that I hated the container it came in. It was just your typical styrofoam to-go container with one large compartment in the front and two smaller ones in the back. The big compartment was filled with rice. Then the woman who helped me filled only one of the tiny compartments of the pork stew entree. And when a piece of pork fell over onto the empty side, she just took it out of the box and placed it back in the hot bar. Come on, lady. Would it have killed you to have given me the pork? But because the pork stew had a lot of liquid and was only filled in one compartment, it spilled everywhere. The entire to-go box was wet and greasy by the time she placed the food in a bag and handed it to me. And when I walked the 10 steps to my car to eat it, all of the good juice was in the bag because it had leaked from the side of the container. Either place items like that on top of the rice or get a smaller container. Tip: You have to spend at least $12 for credit card.

Had to squeeze in a visit to try their buffet on our last day in Chicago and are we ever glad we did! Guys!! I wish we could take this place back in Toronto with us. AYCE filipino food is unheard of, and its So. Good. You can tell it is all made with love. The people are so friendly. Highlights for us was the leche flan, igado, dinuguan, puto, arroz barley caldo and they had their Make Your Own HaloHalo! ‍

After talking to her, I could tell she knew really did understand our needs . She even provided in detail the steps she takes to avoid cross contamination and she provided a list of ingredients used, so we could cross check. Dealing with Lori was so nice. Lori told me how and why she COULD do the things we needed done, instead of so many other bakeries that told me why they couldn't, or what I would have to settle with/for. Baker on the Block truly exceeded my expectations! I can not even begin to tell you how nice it was to know that we could truly enjoy this cake without fear of allergic reaction! The best surprise was how good the bake tasted! This was one of the most flavorful cakes I have ever eaten. The butter cream frosting tasted mild and sweet, not waxy like at all. The chocolate cake was light and fluffy and my fork easily cut right through it. Lori is also gifted at cake decorating. As I said, I needed a theme cake, the request was for an Outlander related cake with the stones. Outlander is not my thing, I had no idea what I needed. So Lori did some research and presented an excellent design option very quickly. She brought the solution to me where other bakeries were looking to me, and I had no idea. I appreciated Lori making it really, really simple for me. The cake was ready on time and in a sturdy box. When I got the cake home my wife saw the cake and was very pleased especially with the stones on top and the designs on the side and top the top...she said it was PERFECT!!! Lori and Baker on the Block did an awesome job of making me look like one smart husband!!! Baker on the Block can definitely create a cake for any occasion! Her prices are very reasonable. Her attention to detail on the top, sides , flavor and texture is the complete package that you are looking for. You will see that your cake project is her passion.

This place has stellar pastries, and I've fallen in love with the Shaken Espresso. I have sampled many of the items in the bakery case, do not miss out on the cookie butter cheese cake or the Dubai Choclate Brownie. The savory food items are delicious. The balsalmic glaze twisted bread is my favorite. For a morning savory treat you can not go wrong with the Quiche. I also want to say, the atmosphere is so quiet and a great place to study. I have spent hours in this establishment, the comfortable seating in the benches was just what I needed for long hours of studying. I will attribute my success on this test if passed to the Sweet Reserve Bakery. Also thank you to the staff, they have been so kind and friendly with every encounter, thank you for being a part of my journey

But, I am reviewing the Lombard location. The selection was good and fresh, although some of their items are a bit pricey. I ordered cake pops, brownies, and a chocolate chip cookie. The sales person was pleasant and quick. This store is their biggest store, and they feed the Winfield and Schaumburg stores. They make their pastries at this location, so you'll probably get the freshest selection at the Lombard location. I had bought a gift card from Costco for Sweet Reserve. I admit if I hadn't bought it, and received a discount at Costco for it, I probably would not have noticed the store. It's in a small strip mall on Roosevelt road which has hundreds of strip malls off the road. The store itself is clean and well kept. It does have a limited selection of products but they were all pretty good. The brownies are very frudgey, just the way I like them. The cake pops are sweet, but a little dry. The cookie has a lot of chips in them. Overall, I liked the place.

I stopped by when passing through the area for a coffee and to check out dt Bloomingdales new addition. I loved that this was located in an older house and had seating both inside and on the front patio. The gentleman working was filling a sub order before helping me. There was minimal signage posted so I got to ask about what they had to offer. I decided on an iced lavender latte and two donuts to go (biscoff & cannoli). Everything was ready in minutes which was great! My coffee was strong but had minimal lavender flavoring. The donuts were the real win! $2 for each, great flavor filling, and super soft! While the coffee wasn't my favorite in the area, I'd definitely come back to try other baked goods and the sub sandwiches!

When I arrived, I was informed that she decided to make a few more cupcakes to fill in the serving dish. I was fine with that until she raised the amount that she said I owed... I'm not sure which would be worse....either way, bad. I didn't squabble over a couple bucks but was annoyed. Then, I paid and I didn't notice until I was on my way that she gave me the wrong change....again to her advantage. Umm....wtf? I don't know what to say about a business like this!!! The cupcakes themselves weren't good. The frosting had hardened and it was pure sugar!! I can't even say the flavor was good....even though I generally love sweets. These were too sweet!! I've had them twice, and both were consumed within the hour of buying them. Both had frosting that tasted like sweetened plastic, a strangely wet (not moist, just wet) interior, and an off flavor. One cake in particular stood out, a chocolate cake with white frosting, which tasted like someone had mixed flat rootbeer with a few teaspoons of rubbing alcohol and soaked the bottom of the cake in it. It was very strange, and we obviously didn't finish it. I maintain that they make good cookies, though, and I'll probably go back for those.
