They sell breads that are old. I got butchi and after just one bite you can tell its old , not freshly baked anymore and has been sitting in the shelf for days. If only I can return it and get my money back, same with the adobo roll. Maybe they are good when its freshly baked but please stop selling old bread and pastries. This is for the buffet. It's not the prettiest and the food looks a little wanting BUT and this is a good BUT there's a lot of selections and they taste Great! Don't let the looks fool you the Sisig may not be crispy but it taste way better than average same with the paksiw na Lechon. Special mention also to the Igado its excellent just the right amount of liver. The pork ceviche is also recommended. The desserts alone here is worth the price$11.95. Just drove to Glendale Heights to Check out The Bake House. It is located in Jasmine Court next to an Oriental Grocer. Run by a family I tried a Chicken Empanada, Sesame Ball, Mango H, and Vegetable egg roll. Everything was delicious l! The best egg roll I have ever had! They also had pork egg rolls. Prices are very reasonable. They also have a steam table filled with all kinds of food. They charge $10.99 a plate. Open for lunch & dinner daily. They were very busy when I went there. All you can eat, Saturday and Sunday only. $8.99 includes appetizers (eggrolls, kikiam, bbq sticks), soup, rice (fried and white), hot entrees (lots of adobo - pork, chicken, squid, pork ribs) diniguan, pancit, kare kare, lots of desserts, and even 3 fruit based drinks. The buffet is fairly new, ever since the beauty shop next door closed. Hopefully enough people come to keep it open, but not too many that lines form or prices go up. I actually came here for the hot lunch, but ended up getting a lot of random ube pastries, egg rolls, and empanadas. I've had bad experiences with baked empanadas at other bakeries being dried and crumbling instead of flaky. So when I took a bite of theirs, I was super happy to find that they were able to get that flakiness I love so much. Faith restored! The little cup of lumpia were about $5 a pop, so I opted in getting the big vegetable spring rolls. A little greasy, but tasty. The lechon/pork stew I ordered from their hot bar area tasted pretty good as well. My problem was that I hated the container it came in. It was just your typical styrofoam to-go container with one large compartment in the front and two smaller ones in the back. The big compartment was filled with rice. Then the woman who helped me filled only one of the tiny compartments of the pork stew entree. And when a piece of pork fell over onto the empty side, she just took it out of the box and placed it back in the hot bar. Come on, lady. Would it have killed you to have given me the pork? But because the pork stew had a lot of liquid and was only filled in one compartment, it spilled everywhere. The entire to-go box was wet and greasy by the time she placed the food in a bag and handed it to me. And when I walked the 10 steps to my car to eat it, all of the good juice was in the bag because it had leaked from the side of the container. This is a family owned bakery and eatery. The name may suggest this is a desserts only type of place, but they have a small dining area in the back where they serve traditional home-cooked Filipino lunch & dinner items. Don't expect anything fancy, just simply staples for a quick bite to eat. The bakery items I've tried so far have all been good. I've had the biko (a thick, dense rice pudding), swiss roll cakes (they have a variety of flavors to choose from, and many have fresh coconut slivers in the cream), ube bread (a sweetbread swirled with sweet purple potato yam), sapin (a tri-colored glutinous coconut gelatin - think of this as a dense sort of jello, but with natural flavors), and hopia with a sweet mung bean filling (this is similar to the Chinese mooncake with a super dense center covered in a buttery laminated pastry). They also sell an assortment of plain donuts and empanadas / meat-filled "baos" in the front. Everything was very well made and fairly priced. Individual desserts were $2-4 and the larger bread loafs and swiss rolls meant to be shared are $5-6. Nothing fancy, but solid homecooked goods that you can afford to eat every day. Many people come here to grab a bunch of sweets for family and friends get togethers. If you need an "Asian style" birthday cake, they have ready made cakes and can do special orders. These are as good as the ones served in fancier patisseries in Manhattan for a fraction of the cost - think Paris Baguette or Tous Les Jours sans decorations. The cake is super light and fluffy and the "icing" is a smooth whipped cream. If you don't like traditional birthday cakes or sugary icings, give this a try at your next special occasion! read more

You can often get traditional savory Filipino food to go like adobo, fried fish, caldereta, menudo, mongo and many more dishes. They also have catering options. Often times available for same day requests. I usually order a tray of 100 "Filipino egg rolls." These are quite the favorite for my families Sunday dinner appetizer. The costs is much less than if anyone were to make them, at under $29, including tax. They also make Filipino birthday cakes like Ube and Sansrival. I believe that's how you spell it? Very good food!!! Although we had to wait for more than an hour, it was worth it. I was upset so I had to ask why we had to wait that long and understood that there are circumstances that is beyond control. Some of the staff had to take the day off for being sick. I admire that they still tried their best to provide the best although it was not enough, CHRISTMAS reminds us that its the love and selflessness and they put their staff health first than anything else. To the Bakehouse, they need to enhance their communication with the customers so we dont get upset for not getting the best service. Had we seen the apology earlier than it was posted, experience would have been better. A piece of advice, it would have been easier if they've had prioritize order pick up only that day and close the store for walk ins since they were under staff. This is my first time using yelp to write a constructive and humane criticism, not to bash or tell others to stay away from a business . Yelp should be use to guide public so businesses will improve to satisfy us, customers. Reviews are hopefully not written to ruin reputation or judge in general. Nobody's perfect. I've lamented how the immediate Western Burb's are devoid of Fresh Pandesal. I will stalk your Lola's house if she makes it from scratch. That's how much I love fresh Pandesal (the fresh, slightly sweet bread that I grew up having many Sunday mornings when I was a wee one in Chicago). I remember getting fresh pandesal from here years ago but then the bakery just went away. I heard rumors, I saw an empty storefront. But now, I guess someone is back making not only pandesal, but also lots of other fresh baked goods AND some take out foods like dinuguan, pancit and adobo. I also saw Brazo's de Mercedes in the cooler, some pork and chicken siopao, cucinta, sapin sapin and casava cake. Great stuff to get in a pinch if you don't feel like making it yourself. The mom and I got some lechon kawali--good pork, but the skin was too chewy. I also tried the corned beef hash pandesal--genius idea, but I prefer my corned beef hash overdone. The regular pedesal was good--soft, puffy, but I'd love to get the fresh out of the oven pandesal. We also tried the sesame balls--not the same as my favorite from Chinatown, but made with sweet white bean filling and still ok. On our way out, they had a basket of Manila mangoes for customers to take one for free--how sweet! Nice place, clean, tidy. Very reasonable prices (cheap!). 'Been a customer for as long as we have lived in Carol Stream (7 years). My husband loves the beef caldereta and the chicken empanada and the puto. My grown-up kids when they're home love to eat the bibingka, the cassava cake, hopia and the ginisang munggo- I have placed large orders through the Bakehouse when I had hosted parties at home and was always satisfied with the order/s. My husband and I have only been to the buffet twice- and have not gone back quite as much- because there was just too much to eat, and hard to pass up the selection of food available (we are both trying to control our diet!) This is a good local filipino bakery. I'm rating this for my mom. She loves this place. This is where she gets her tray of pancit and calamari. Prices here are decent. The food is mostly filipino bake goods and "to-go" dishes like adobo, estupado, pancit, palabok...and other "ulam"(im not sure if I am saying it right..yeah i don't speak tagalog). They have good halo-halo too for a reasonable price. The owner and staff are also friendly. Great place to go to if you are looking for filipino food last minute. Their sisig (crunchy diced pork with onions and ginger) the best compared to other Filipino stores'. Though the palabok noodles' sauce was bland. If i can give it a zero star i would! I ordered egg rolls for a potluck 2 days ahead. Asked if they're open at 10 and the lady said yes. Emphasized that i needed them by that time. Ive been buying bread from other filipino store and everythings good and freshly made. Thought about trying the bread here because of the good reviews, bought 2 packs of pan de coco and hopia. I love, love, love this place! Their dishes are on point, just the way it should be, the traditional way (not altered nor commercialized, and hindi tinipid ). You can tell they're cooked with a passion. They're always fresh and price is reasonable. The place is clean, the staff are very well mannered and friendly, and service is awesome. Oh and the desserts, baked goods and different kinds of kakanins are scrumptious! Which is what they are known for. Puto, kutsinta, pichi-pichi, sapin-sapin, puto bong-bong, ube cake, mocha cake, biko, sans rival and so much more! These are just a few of their signature ones. What amazes me is the consistency. Everything tastes the same as they did from more than 20 years ago or even better. They even kicked it up a notch by adding the buffet, with a wide a variety of authentic Filipino ulams, refreshments, and of course their famous desserts. I'm originally from Chicagoland then moved to SoCal. When I visited Chicago this year, this was my first stop . I sooo highly recommend this place. I used to come to this store almost on a weekly basis for many years but noticed over the last year that they've gotten careless with how they handle their food. Last year, I found a strand of black hair in my order. Gross! I didn't come back until months later and guess what? I found another strand of black hair! Really?! I even posted a bad review on Yelp at the time and to my surprise I don't even see it listed anymore! Well, I decided it's been several months now. What are my chances of finding another strand of hair? I decided to chance it and see if they can redeem themselves. Well, the good news is that I didn't find any hair in my order. The bad news is that I got food poisoning instead! I'll no longer support this business. If you want Filipino to-go food that has better quality control, I'd recommend going to Lina's Filipino Marketplace in Bloomingdale instead. There, they wear hair nets and all their prepared food is behind glass, which is what this store should do to avoid contamination! read more

I found this bakery through a Yelp search and decided to stop in with my family for some empanadas. It was about 3pm and we must have missed the rush, because they were all out of empanadas. I suppose it was too close to closing time to make more for the day (it was Sunday, so shorter hours). I told the man behind the counter that we came there specifically for the empanadas, and without hesitation, he kindly told us that they would make as many as we wanted. Great customer service!! And the chicken empanadas were just as great! We also bought hopia with garlic, mongo, and ube. All very good, especially the garlic hopia. We will definitely go back very soon!! read more
