As a handicap person who just drove up ( Because i'm unable to get in easily)for a Couple of their, used to be good doughnuts, To be told , I needed to go through doordash.. I can understand that there was only one person there , but I was sitting right outside the door within ten feet. I realize they don't have much help but it was at a time where they were not busy at all and could have taken the time out to help. I used to order from there all the time...and never had a problem having someone help me out with Them. Not good service today. read more

Have been going here since I was a kid. Best Doughnuts around! And the Doughnut holes....omg my waist line screams.

Wanted to try this donut shop after I saw it on Too good to go. Decided to try the doughnuts discounted so we knew whether we liked them. I do not think all the doughnuts are made fresh daily. We did not think the donuts were very good except for the blueberry one which was better than the others. We will not be back. read more

Limited but delicious selection of fresh donuts. The buttermilk old fashioned and blueberry donuts are far superior to national chains. And the apple fritters are awesome. The staff is friendly and helpful. The storefront is unassuming and very accessible. Prices are reasonable too. read more

Several recent visits have been disappointing as the vanilla and chocolate long Johns have been dry and once to the point where the frosting actually fell off the donut. This place used to be great but not any more. Quality is nowhere near what it once was at this place. It used to be our "go to place" for donuts. Won't be going back, at least for a long time. read more

I remember getting donuts from this shop when I was in elementary school. I went back after many years and the new owner has taken over. Small shop, overcrowded with non donut items. A bit dirty and unappealing. Donut variety is okay, donuts are fresh but a bit on the soggy side. As if they will firm up as the days go by, and become stale. Lots of hidden surcharges, so what started as reasonable is now actually pretty expensive. Best to bring cash. read more

My new favorite donut shop! 10/10 highly recommend! My son's birthday donuts came out so perfect! Tasty & fresh! Thank you :)

This a cute little local family run donut shop in a small strip mall. This is the smallest donut place I ever seen. You could miss it if you're not looking for it. Thus nice lady Rosie greeted me and started a box for me. They make small batches with a. Ice variety and their setup works. Rosie took extra care to line the bottom of the box with tissue and put the donuts in the box nicely. The cake donuts were fluffy and the glaze wasn't too sweet, Boston crème had a decent amount of custard filling and the glazed raised was par for the course. Donuts that had peanuts, coconut and other outer glazes were really packed on generously. There was no grease residue in the box or with the donuts. Their cinnamon rolls were a decent size and looked really good although I didn't try those. They sell ice cream, cold beverages along with hot coffee as well. read more

I'm a donut freak. This donut shop is probably in my top 5. The donuts are always fresh and delicious and the service has always been very commendable the handful of times I've been to Johns. No complaints here. Keep up the great work! read more

Good old school donuts. I'm happy to support a small local business. Small space but it serves its purpose.

Oil donuts fried in leaves a gross aftertaste thinking old oil or cancerous seed oils. Change to avacado oil. Change oil daily.

Donuts are my thing! First visit was at 2 pm on a Wednesday. I was pleasantly surprised to see such a great selection of donuts this late in the day. I grabbed a half dozen. Oversized, fresh and delicious! I will be back! read more

Awesome little donut shop! Owners are really nice and the Boston cream donut is my go to! Go support this local gem and enjoy a sweet treat!

I've kept hearing about this bakery and I've been trying to find excuses to go here. Hubby finally had a day when he said he needed donuts and I suggested trying here. Hubby said this place small with only one employee. He bought a dozen donuts and he got a free one for buying the dozen. I liked the Boston Crème best. Toddler liked the double chocolate with sprinkles. Hubby liked the lemon donut. This place is a solid four stars if you want reasonably priced donuts. I'm sure we will be back. read more

I'm shocked that this small, local, family business only has an average 3.5 stars. I have lived in the area for about 4 years now and just recently found this gem. I bought some Paczkis last week for Fat Tuesday. I didn't expect to find them here but I am glad that I did. They were amazing. I bought them in the afternoon and they still tasted fresh! The pastry is nice and soft. It was fluffy and airy. That first bite was amazing! This morning I went there to buy a couple dozen donuts for Social Work Month and School Social Work Week. The Paczkis left me wanting more and I was eager to try their donuts. Listen, this business needs the local business. I went in there with the thought that I'd be purchasing a dozen donuts for 7.99. I then realized that I was going in based on pricing from 5 years ago. A dozen donuts is a well worth 11.99. I was okay with that because you get an idea of the time and dedication that goes into making their donuts. That's what you get just by having that first bite. I will continue going back. Don't take my word for it. Check it out and form your own opinion. At the very least, this is a 4 star business so if you agree, let's get John's Donut Shop to that rating. I hope this helps. read more

Ordered online through Grubhub/Yelp the day before. I was a little confused by the ordering system for a half dozen/full dozen, but just selected full dozen and added the donuts I wanted in the comment section. The order was ready when I got there, and all the donuts were delicious. Loved the Boston and Bavarian cream, as well as the long johns and buttermilk donut. Donuts are a good size and they put a good amount of filling in the filled donuts. Will be back for sure to try the others! read more

I've been their customer for 10+ years. They always have fresh coffee and doughnuts. I remember wanted to buy some doughnuts and the owner told me to 'wait for 5 minutes because they're still in the oven.' I waited and got to enjoy freshly baked doughnuts! They also make fresh coffee for you. The previous owner sold the business and the new owners have added their own fine touches. They now sell ice cream and cakes and a whole lot of other stuff. I suggest you go here to help out a small family owned business. read more

Stale doughnuts. Made the trip out there and disappointed. Won't be back anytime soon

Friendly service but 10am donuts were super stale. I ended up throwing them away after one bite. I could tell by the bite I took they were more bread tasting than yeast testing. Low quality donut. Donut shop looked like a massage parlor from the outside. Inside looked very old and not in the best way. I gave 2 stars cause coffee wasn't bad, person behind counter was nice. Won't repeat. read more

No big frills classic donuts in the best way. Nice staff. Super fresh! my favorite are the cake donuts --flavorful, sweet, with slight crispiness when dipped. Just what a classic doughnut should be. read more

Excellent donuts from a wonderful local business! We had family visiting for my daughter's birthday and I picked up two dozen on Fat Tuesday (they also had multiple paczki flavors available, which I didn't try). Selection was fantastic. All varieties I chose were fresh and tasty, with jelly-filled, blueberry cake, and buttermilk getting the top votes. Way better than the national chain! read more

It was a cold chilly morning. I thought to myself "man I could use a donut". I looked on my phone and saw John's donuts. Me and the hubby thought we would give it a shot. We drove to the location and immediately realized how smooth and easy the front door was to open with a friendly "jingle" from the bells on the door. We were met with a friendly smile from whom only could have been John himself behind the counter. We each ordered 2 donuts and were hit immediately with the aroma of its freshness. As we left the store we were still surprised by how quiet and easy to open the front door was. If I only had 3 words to describe my experience it would be the following: Delicious. Fresh. Friendly. Hubby and I live, laugh, and love the experience. read more

Donuts are not very good. They taste more like bread than a donut. The toasted coconut was the only really good one I chose. It was super fresh and an actual yeast donut. We tossed the others. I was very confused about the other items inside the store... cardboard by register listed they were selling Mary Kay and had other liquor store type Knick knacks laying around. Is this a donut shop or a garage sale? Very odd! read more

Donuts are a little better than Dunkin. The place is run by a ten-year old looking kid or at least he's the only one I saw working there. They taught him to grab the donuts with a glove, but the way he handles the glove and bag before he puts the glove on kind of defeats the purpose of using a glove lol. Poor little kid would probably be traumatized if somebody went in and robbed the place. read more

Food-3/5 Tasted like a regular Dunkin Doughnuts donut for the a few cents cheaper. I would not be able to tell the difference from this donut and the same one from dunkin. I was expecting cool. Different donuts from this place but it was the same. I was also disappointed that they ran out of blueberry donuts because those I heard are really good. There was no ice cream even though outside the stope they said they had ice cream. They also sell jewelry and beats headphones here which is pretty weird. Service / Vibes - 3/5 Good service. No place to sit and eat. read more

John's Donut and Ice Cream shop is a tiny little place situation in a strip mall off of Bloomingdale Road in Glendale Heights. Having tried a few other somewhat nearby independently run Donut places and having found their donuts to be substantially better than the giant chain that is Dunkin Donuts, I figured it would be a good idea to stop into John's and give it a try. The first thing to note is that John's is very tiny. There's one small counter, a cooler and a random display case with merchandise in it. Behind the small counter is donuts, I asked for some recommendations and picked up a dozen donuts for my co-workers and headed off to my office. The general impression on the donuts was mixed. A few people complained they weren't as soft and fluffy as they're used to. They generally were favored over trips to Duncan, but they weren't as happily received as donuts from some of the other independent donut hole in the wall places I've hit before as well. This was my only visit to John's and I might visit again at some point in the future. While it's definitely a better place to pick up a dozen at than your local Dunkin, I donut (get it) recommend it over County Donuts in Schaumburg or Sweet Mornings in Carol Stream. I'll give it three stars and rate Johns Donut Shop as A-Ok. read more

I posted on a local Facebook page asking for donut recommendations for a birthday breakfast. Johns was mentioned more than once. I made the 15 mile trip to this tiny little spot in a very nondescript strip mall. Boy was it worth it!! Really nice service and the donuts were delicious. Just right! Mind you I could only give 4 stars because the way the dozen was packaged on their sides, the frosting either dripped down or stuck to the bottom of the donut in front of it. Next time I will ask for them to be laid flat and side by side. Note, there will be a next time and confident it will be 5 stars!! read more
