Hi, my name is Sonny and I'm a Chocoholic. I'm constantly looking for the best, moistest chocolate cake. And ever since I don't work downtown anymore, I needed to search the northwest burbs for the best chocolate cake. There was always this franchise (Portillo's) that served their famous chocolate cakes by the slice. It was moist and really good. And they remained the best one for such a long time since I really couldn't find any worthy competitors around the northwest burbs, until I saw this tiny shop along Waukegan road-Ganache Bakery. I had to go inside and see what they havd to offer. The word Ganache alone was enough for me to seek em out. Lo and behold, they had Chocolate Cake with ganache icing inside! It was soft and moist and melted in your mouth! I was in heaven! Finally, a place I knew would supply me with the best chocolate cake worthy of any grand celebration. Unfortunately, after the third and fourth purchase, I noticed that it didn't taste the same as the first time we had it. It wasn't as light as the initial experience. It was actually a bit heavier, more dense. It was still moist but, it just wasn't the same anymore. Oh well, the search is back on. read more

I originally wrote a review over a year ago, but since then I've had two more really excellent experiences at Ganache buying things for group events, so I wanted to provide an update. The first was for a St. Patrick's Day party, where I had ordered a tray with 2 pounds of cookies. When I arrived, I noticed that the tray didn't have St. Patrick's Day cookies, just regular cookies. The owner was the one waiting on me, and when I mentioned this to him he apologized immediately, said there must've been a miscommunication, and asked me if I could wait five or 10 minutes and they'd make a brand new tray for me. It probably would've been okay if I took the original tray, but I knew our group really wanted St. Patrick's Day themed desserts for this party of about 40 people. So I said sure I could wait, and the tray they put together was absolutely beautiful. Besides the cookies, it also included some little plastic St. Patrick's Day themed rings and other decorations. Fast forward to last week, when I was tasked with bringing the dessert for a monthly board meeting. I called and again spoke with the owner, and explained what I needed. I thought it would be fun to bring some holiday-themed items, and I had seen a picture of their Yule logs on their website, so I inquired about those. We chatted about it, he asked me the type of cake and filling, I also ordered a 1 pound box of cookies and a gluten-free cupcake for one of our members, and I picked them up before the meeting two days later. Everything was absolutely perfect. Their Yule logs are beautiful - mine looked exactly like the picture on their website - and again there were little rings and other decorations on it. One of the other board members was so impressed with it that she immediately said she was ordering her own for the holidays and took several pictures of it, and everyone asked me what bakery I used. Oh, and the cookies and cupcake were great, too! I have a feeling they'll be getting some more business from our group from this for sure, as they should! read more

The bakery is neat and compact, with the majority of the fancy cookies and cakes under glass. However, my normal morning runs here are for their coffee cakes and donuts - which are still warm! The coffee cakes are great with generous fruit and chocolate fillings. The donuts lean a little more on the cake (old fashion) than the fried variety. Otherwise, the service has been consistently patient and pleasant every time I've visited. read more

This is a cute, little bakery on the edge of a small strip mall. When you walk in you hear the ding of the bell on the door and are immediately greeted by the bakers. They take pride in their baked goods and you can taste it throughout everything I have purchased. The bakers are knowledgeable about what is in each item. But how does that translate to taste and texture? Nicely. The doughnuts I got were light and airy. The frosting on one was sweeter than I'd like, but it was still a good doughnut. The muffin I purchased was a little dry. It may have been toward then end of the shelf life. But if you get there first thing, I suspect it would be great. The prices are decent and the flavors were good. The only complaint I have with the doughnuts is the selection. Every time I have gone, they never have glazed raised doughnuts. read more

I can't say enough good things about this bakery! They seriously saved the day. I called super last minute needing a Spider-Man cake, and they somehow made it happen. Not only did it look amazing, but it tasted even better. it was a marble cake with Oreo frosting. Everyone at the party was obsessed and kept asking where it was from. The cake was so light, fluffy, and perfectly sweet, not too much, just right. You could tell it was made with care. Honestly no one could stop eating it. I'm so glad I found this place, they really came through when I needed them most! Definitely will be coming back here and will recommend it to everyone i know! Very very sweet and friendly staff. My husband and I just celebrated our one year wedding anniversary. It's a running joke that our wedding venue switched our cake with another wedding's that was happening at that same venue. So unfortunately we never got to see our cake that we had designed. So my sweet, thoughtful husband had our cake recreated for our anniversary. Well from what I learned they just open a year ago and I was craving for some sort of dessert usually I just wanted one cake but then I saw the other desserts and it made me crave for more. So far the pastry dessert are ok. I started eating the eclair first that I took a picture of and it's thick but it the center is not as sweet despite the chocolate. I've tasted sweeter eclairs but this was okay it wasn't terrible but it wasn't the best next to the texture it felt cold like it came from the freezer. Pastry was a bit too thick on the eau Claire and the center cream felt too solid and like it came from the refrigerator cold too long. As for the German Black Forest now that was much better the frosting or icing was just right and tasted traditionally like a German forest cake. . Probably if I come back here I'll stop by for the cupcakes and some other desserts I never heard of. Service was average as they just started. Ambiance is so pretty traditional bakery on Waukegan road I wish they would have served milk instead of coffee only and they're really just the bakery for just ordering your pastries and going since there was just one table that's the three stars. Also no bathroom but I guess their intention is just to sell sweets and not have anybody dining in for just one slice of cake and eau Claire? read more

Our family loves Ganache Bakery, and we are so happy this family-owned business opened in the former Maier's Bakery location. Their donuts, pastries, and coffee cakes have become a Sunday tradition and we've ordered every birthday cake from them since they opened their doors. I ordered a custom cake for my son's trunk party. Jorge met with me, helped me design a cake and choose flavors within my budget. He was patient and full of ideas. Just phenomenal. Everyone at the party were not only impressed with the presentation, they also LOVED the cake. It was moist and extremely light. His buttercream frosting is not heavy or sweet. It is just right. The cupcakes are delish too. I highly recommend this bakery. I don't host a lot of parties that require cakes. But when I do, this will be my go to. read more

What a find!! I have been looking for a bakery to replace my Swedish Bakery favorites since they closed down in Andersonville in 2017. I had called around for years looking for a good Cardamon Cake, Andersonville Special coffee cake and Skorpa. Well, Jorge not only was familiar with my favorites but had actually worked at the Swedish Bakery for years and knew exactly what I wanted. He had everything ready for me just in time to head up to my annual golf outing and everything was just like I remembered it from years ago. Jorge doesn't normally make the Skorpa (similar to a biscotti) but it is really worth a call to special order. It's toasted, so if you're looking for something to dunk in your coffee all weekend, you have to give it a try. Those small neighborhood bakeries who take pride in their craft and offer great customer service are few and far between these days, so if you're missing some of those Swedish Bakery favorites, or just looking for good quality baked goods, look no farther than Jorge at Ganache. read more

Ganache is a wonderful addition to the community. They have a wide array of cakes and pastries. The coffee cakes are reasonably priced and fresh. The almond croissants are particularly good and not too sweet. They created a special birthday cake for my grandson it turned out exactly as I had requested. It is hard to find a full service bakery these days. I recommend Ganache wholeheartedly. read more

Idk much about the place in person, but i ordered a cake from them for my birthday. It's awful at worst, meh at best. It's tasteless. Water has more taste. Soft, but it's bland. recently, we tried ganache bakery for the first time. They had a variety of tasty cookies and other pastries. My favorite was the lemon roll. It has a very tart strong lemon taste with a vanilla cream. Excellent. They also have some mouse filled pastries, which were light and excellent as well. ganache also offers coffee, cakes, and bread.
