Very disappointed....... We've been coming to Ruby of Siam in Highland Park for years and always love it, but today was really disappointing. The place was almost empty during peak lunch hours, kind of surprising. Then, out of nowhere, the server tells us we can't take home leftovers from the lunch specials. Saying that it's four boxes each to take when we literally had one box each. No explanation, just a flat-out "no." We even offered to pay for the to-go boxes, but they still wouldn't let us. It just didn't make sense, especially since we've eaten here so many times, ordered from both the lunch and regular menu, and never had a problem before. It's not like we only come for the specials! We've always talked highly about this place, but this experience just left a bad taste. Not sure if this is a new rule or just something the server decided on, but it felt really unwelcoming. It's sad to see a place we've supported for so long make us feel this way.

Very nice dinning experience. Cozy and nicely decorated. Had the lunch special, pad thai, tum yum soup and a veggie spring roll, all very good! My date had curry chicken with rice which I got a taste off and it was excellent. Service was prompt and friendly. Bill was very reasonable. Will go back again!

I've been going here for years. One of my favorite dishes is the papaya salad with tomatoes and peanuts. I didn't recognize the person at the front desk when I walked in, maybe this place is under new ownership? Anyway the salad was awful. Dressing tasted very water down. I counted four peanuts total. And the price was $14. Take a look at the photo, I did take two bites but you can see how small it is. Was great to have a good Thai restaurant down the road. So I called them and was very friendly. I know mistakes happen. All I asked for was a gift certificate for the cost of the salad and I'd be happy to try it again. They said they would call the manager and call me back. Well it's two days later and I have not heard back. So bad food and bad customer service equals one star. I'll be going to a different Thai place from now on, sadly.

I'm a big fan of Ruby of Siam and everything was on point tonight. The Tom Yum soup was hot and slightly spicy, filled with mushrooms, cilantro and chicken. I was feeling a little under the weather this evening and this was exactly what I needed. The sampler plate with lime chicken, Ruby crab legs and potstickers were a little of everything, and it was a kind of best of the best--small portions of popular appetizers and it was exactly enough. The mango smoothie was thick and lush with perfect chewy boba. The dining room was mostly empty when we arrived but our dishes came out pretty quickly and the staff is always friendly and accommodating.

Food was amazing and, everyone in our party was satisfied with the portions and taste. Service was great for a Saturday in a sense he did a great job for one person on the floor. We didn't get our entrees brought out at the same time for a party of 6. Occasionally I would see another server from the kitchen. Ambiance, decor, lighting, furniture was calming.

I pretty much do grubhub delivery most of the time and their deliveries are fast and the food arrives tasting quite good however dining in the restaurant was just so much better. Duh. The food seemed to have more depth of flavor than take out or delivery. We had the chicken Tom ka soup which is the coconut milk soup. Pad Thai was good not great. Red or green curry are both stand outs and come as hot or as mild as you like. Service was really friendly and efficient So much better than Jimmy Thai which is overrated. Go here!

It was snowing outside, so we started with some warm Jasmine Tea and a delicious Tom Ka with tofu, its a coconut milk soup with lemongrass and mushrooms, delicately sweet and warm. The crab sticks were their take on crab rangoons, standard flavor but different in texture. Now one of the best items I've tried of that evening was the lime chicken. It was juicy, deep fried and flaky toppe with an insanely delicious zesty lime sauce. That chicken is a must order if you're here, but then we move onto their local favorites like the crispy panang noodles, these are reduced pananang curry stir-fried crispy flat noodles, and were also warm and comforting, the local favorites are actually inspired by the customers, I thought that was unique. Somehting that caught my eye even more was Pad See Iew dish but it has a crying tiger steak in there adding another juicy flavor that paired surprisignly very welll with the flat noodles and sweet soy sauce based dish. Their spring rolls are small and made from scratch, I always appreciate the made from scratch aspect, and the food is good so it shows that hard work does pay off. I ordered their half roasted crispy half duck, and it was honestly the crispiest duck I've ever had. Served with a sweet plum sauce that was perfect for dipping the duck in there. The duck was fatty and juicy and paired with veggies and fried rice. Highly recommend ordering that duck, I know there's too many good items on the menu. For dessert, we had the classic mango sticky rice, and the mango is the buttery manila mango that is in season until December and then they use a different mango until they're in season again. the sticky rice was sweet, lightly milky and overall this is a great spot.

They have a great lunch special that includes an appetizer, soup/salad, an entree, and a dessert. It was a great combination of food that left the whole party full. The ambiance is nice inside and the service is very kind. I'd definitely go back.

I used to work next door and love their food. I had the red beef curry that had the right amount of spice. And the crab Rangoon was creamy always a favorite. I uploaded a menu pic because I notice there wasn't any on yelp. Will always go back

I've had many clutch spots over the years as I moved around, but it took me a minute to find my North Shore go-to. But here I am, a local for half a year now, and my go-to is Ni's, 100%. Lisa, the owner extraordinaire, is friendly, engaging, and an absolute customer service star. Not to mention a formidable chef. She has an obvious passion for food and its cultural history, and I love talking with her about it. The whole crew at Ni's is awesome and always happy to chat or handle any dish alterations. They clearly care about their clientele, and it's one of the things that keeps me coming back. My "must have" is the veggie summer rolls. I get them every time. Really, really good. And after living in the Vietnamese neighborhood of San Francisco for a few years, eating out almost daily, I've had my fair share of summer rolls. The produce at Ni's is always fresh, and I love how they cleverly use jicama for crunch. The rolls come with peanut sauce, but Ni's makes a delicious vegan fish sauce in-house that I go with almost every time. Banh Mi, Veggie Pho, Crispy Tofu, Fried Rice, I've had everything on the menu that is vegan or can be made so, and I'll gladly order them all again and again. This is not an all-vegan restaurant by any stretch (fear not, meat eaters), but Lisa goes out of her way to have options, and I've never been anything but satisfied. Even my kindergartner is into the veggie Pho broth and summer rolls, and he's not the easiest to please. Wilmette is lucky to have Ni's. I hope everyone knows that. They're tucked around the corner from the busier area of Central Ave and Wilmette Ave, and I've been doing my best to spread the word. "You've never been to Ni's?! Get the hell outta here.." So, if you didn't know, now you do. You're welcome.

Not may restaurants serve Jasmine tea. It was such a treat that they had it! Delicious. For appetizers we had the Vietnamese spring rolls and the pork belly. Outstanding. Everyone you just have to eat here it's so good. The pork was crispy on the outside, perfectly seasoned, and chewy on the inside. Juicy too. It was so good. I wish they had just brought out a small bowl of it. The spring rolls were generously stuffed and the peanut sauce it came with was on point and only enhanced by the table hoisin sauce. I would eat here daily if I could. Anyone who lives in this area is so spoiled to have this down the street. For the Pho, I had the meat combo so I got a little bit of everything. My only feedback would be that the veggies that come with the soup are sparse and I wish more Thai basil came on the plate. They loaded up on the bean sprouts though and that was awesome. Really I am being picky and everything here is top notch. The place is smaller so I'd recommend visiting on off-peak hours so you can spread out and relax with some tea. I really enjoyed myself here. Some of my very memorable foods include every bowl of beef pho that was offered to us. The beef was tender and flavorful, the pho (rice noodles) was thin and smooth. Tonight, we were having takeout from one of our favorite eateries, Basu, again. Since the first bowl of beef pho that did not totally meet our expectations, we had been ordering chicken pho from them. Their grilled chicken has always been smooth and cooked nicely. Their sweet soy glazed chicken wings are finger-licking good. We like their ground pork egg rolls with crunchy skin as well. This time I wanted to give their beef pho another chance, and see how it would compare to those that I had in Vietnam, and hope that they have made some improvement over two and a half years. Well, it is still the same. The beef was not tender, although not too chewy, it was kind of rough. The pho was not as smooth as I would like it to be. The broth still tasted good and not too salty, though. The chicken pho and egg roll were still good. (We remove the side bag of raw bean sprouts, lime, and basil from the order, as we don't eat them). It is a still a solid 4-star. Next time I will switch back to chicken pho again. I am still glad that we have this Vietnamese eatery close by!

There was a live saxophone player and I loved the live flowers they had. Our waiter was extremely nice and took the time to explain the menu as well as their customer favorites. I order a Thai iced tea which wasn't bad but I prefer mine a little thicker and sweeter. It came in a thin tall glass which in theory was not a lot of drink. To start we order the chicken appetizer and fried beef on rice to share and unfortunately I did not snap a pic but these were listed under apps or shareables but the portions were extremely small. As our mains came I noticed that they were also small and each were around $20-$30 per plate. Not a bad thing if you don't eat much but I'm a big bang for buck type of gal. My family came to share and this place is a more fine dining thai restaurant which could explain the smaller portions. We ordered the pad Thai which was alright in my opinion I expected a little more flavor, the aubergine which was tossed vegetables as recommended by our waiter which was also ok not much flavor but beautiful plating though, and the coconut curry which was by far my favorite. If I were to come back here I would order that again, it was a nice light yet complex flavor profile which made me savor every bite. Overall good place for an upbeat fancier meal and I highly recommend the coconut curry braised chicken if you visit. Little pricey but that's just my opinion let me know what you guys think if you visit!
