I didn't sit down to eat here. I ordered from here. Although I've known about this place for a while -- actually, for decades -- I've ordered only a few times. This was one of thise times. The food was quite good. It tasted quite fresh, and I finished my order up quickly. Picking up the order was a breeze. Since it was prepaid, I just went to the counter, they pointed out my bag, and I was on my way. Easy peasy! The people working there had a very positive attitude and demeanor, which does make a difference. Prefer BinHai over others in area. General Tso's, tofu dish, mongolian beef, crab rangoons were all tasty. Beef was tender and chicken was not rubbery as another reviewer had mentioned. May not have the ambiance but service is great and food is satisfying and does not give you that after MSG hangover feeling like some other places do. I grew up in San Francisco and have been looking for good Chinese ever since I moved to Illinois. Even though it is 30+ minutes from my house, this may be it. I had a vet appointment in Bannockburn this morning and stopped here on the way home. I ordered two lunch specials: Mongolian beef with pork fried rice and hot and sour soup and noodle soup with egg roll, plus the Bo Bo appetizer platter. All for $38! We knew there would be some degradation due to the 30 minute drive home, but everything was very good and the portion size to price is great! We've eaten ourselves stuffed and still have so many leftovers for dinner tonight and probably lunch tomorrow. So far, the BBQ pork rib has been the winner, with the noodle soup and the fried rice close second. The Mongolian beef was probably the least liked (it was a bit sweet, but was still very good. The beef appears to be good quality). I'm not a huge egg roll fan, but I'm told this one was very good. We haven't tried the hot and sour soup or most of the Bo Bo platter yet, but if what we've tried is any indication, we expect it will be good. The lady at the front desk was also very nice. I sat in the car with my cat while the order was being made and she waved to get my attention when it was ready. I plan to be back very soon, even with the long drive. read more

For all the many years we've lived pretty close to Binhai we've never ordered from there until last night. So glad we did. The food was as good or better than the usual Chinese takeout places we normally go to in the north suburbs. Prices and portions were also very good. We had egg rolls, Mongolian Beef, Seafood special double fried noodles and chicken fried rice. All was good. Also received plenty of sweet/sour, hot mustard and soy sauce without asking for it, as well as fortune cookies. We will be mostly ordering from here from now on. read more

The fried rice is okay, but the chicken in it was rubbery. The sesame chicken was awful, the pieces were so chewy and lumpy, just beyond poor quality. The saving point was the steamed dumplings. My family highly recommends Bin Hai. Or favorites are the Tofu dishes and fried rice. Consistent and very tasty Chinese food. Fast and happy service by the owner. I like getting take out here. IMO it's the best in this area. Not exactly sure what happen with the old owners/management or are these new owners? They were closed for a while. I like the lunch menu as well and have had it a few times. Egg roll, fried rice, main menu item, decent portion and a fair price. People in this area love Tongs but you can have it. Not for me. If you wanted to eat in and have boring tasting food then go there bc they have tables and service. Here you can eat in but IMO it's definitely better for take-out and the food is much better. Bin Hai further reinforces my belief that even small, non-descript strip mall restaurants can crank out top quality food! I've lived minutes away from this tiny gem for a long time, but visited with my wife for the first time on a recent Sunday night. We were seated immediately and had to take several minutes to peruse the voluminous menu. Most of it is standard American-style Chinese food. I like to judge Chinese restaurants based on their egg rolls and wonton soup. If those are good, then everything on the menu is a safe bet, in my opinion. Wifey wanted Spicy Crispy Tofu, so no egg rolls for us on this visit, but I did enjoy a large bowl of Wonton Soup. It was very, very good, but was missing one ingredient that I LOVE in Wonton Soup...sliced pork! The Spicy Crispy Tofu was EXCELLENT! And it was SPICY! Lucky for me, it was a bit too spicy for Wifey...which meant MORE Spicy Crispy Tofu for ME! I ordered a small portion of Kung Pao Chicken. She had the House Combo Lo Mein... chicken, beef and shrimp. Both entrees were FANTASTIC! Service was friendly and quick. They really do a brisk business with carryout and delivery too. Prices are VERY reasonable for the quality and quantity you get. Under new ownership and overall, if not better then at least a bit more unique food than the previous group. The flavors are no longer really Cantonese (despite what the menu might suggest) but the ingredients seem to be of a higher quality, more care is put into the preparation, and food seems to be healthier (less salty, avoids preservatives, doesn't really use canned ingredients). Decor is still very basic and typical of a cheaper Chinese carry-out restaurant, prices are good, portion sizes are large, and service is acceptable. Here are my thoughts on the items I tried: Tea: Jasmine tea, fairly light and of a good quality Hot and our soup: Filled with lots of vegetables, tofu, mushrooms, etc. Not really spicy or salty, but somewhat light and refreshing. Egg drop soup: Nice strong egg flavors, also not very salty Crab rangoon: Instead of deep frying, it's a lightly fried wonton skin and crispy with a lighter cream cheese filling. Egg Roll: Crispy wonton skin, with nice crispy light vegetables inside -- this plus the rangoon don't really have the "junky chop suey" type of flavor to it, which may make this seem "bland" to some people. Shrimp Noodle: Very light broth with a fairly generous amount of shrimp. Fresh cabbage and mushrooms match well with the overall healthy theme of the dish. Sweet and sour pork: Batter could be a bit more crispy and I would like a bit larger pieces of meat, but the best part of this dish is that the pork used is a bit fatter than normal and very tender. The sauce is light and not too thick and they surprisingly used fresh pineapple to help flavor the dish. Orange chicken: Has a really strong sweetness to it. Not really super crispy but does have a healthier taste to it. Garnished with some fresh vegetables that were prepared to be slightly crunchy. Mongolian beef: The best dish I tried. The beef is prepared very tender with a light sear on the edges, the sauce is sweet and addictive. There's a variety of textures with the soft seared onions and the crispy egg noodles. Gone chow beef rice noodle: Beef is seared nicely and there's good "wok-hay". The flat noodle was fairly fresh and had slightly crispy edges. The onion added a nice sweetness to the dish. Shrimp Cantonese Double Pan Fried Noodles: Prepared very crispy and not too oily. The sauce was light and not too thick. Overall, with the change in management the biggest change is really in the food style. It may no longer be a classic Cantonese style, but in many ways it's actually a healthier improvement over the old cooking. This is still my favorite Chinese restaurant in Deerfield. read more

This is no-frills, affordable, decent quality Chinese food. The staff is friendly, and the food is served fresh and hot. This is not a gourmet spot, nor is it meant to be. This is where you can get a big lunch, or for a reasonable price get a few items for dinner and have leftovers to spare. I only get lunch specials here, so I can't speak for any of the dinners or more complicated dishes. We just moved to the area and are searching for our new "go to" neighborhood Chinese restaurant. Unfortunately BinHai is not it. The food isn't bad, it's just not what we prefer. My fiancé's go to order is fried rice. He's not a fan of onions and usually that's not a problem when ordering fried rice. BinHai uses a lot of onion in their shrimp fried rice. This resulted in my fiancé not finishing his meal. The fried rice seemed to be mostly rice, shrimp and onion. We also tried the pork pot stickers and the egg rolls. Everything was okay but just not what we are looking for in order to be our go to replacement for the Chinese restaurant we frequented by our last residence. read more
