Having lived in CA and the east coast, I was so excited to see an honest location in Niles. This is an all vegetarian Indian restaurant. I've been honest a few times and every time have had a different experience - to start all the food takes a very long time to get made and for your order to be done. I've tried a bunch of different foods off their menu and my favorite has to be the pani puri, chutney cheese sandwich, and dosa. Honest Niles was pretty good. We went in on a Friday evening, and thankfully, it wasn't too busy. Among 5 people, we ordered Dabeli, Pav Bhaji, Dahi Puri Chat, Papdi chat, Samosa and Falooda. Dabeli was pretty good. The filing inside mine wasn't completely heated, was kinda cold. The spice was good. OG fans, it misses pomegranates, but I can imagine that it's tedious to arrange. Each order comes with two dabelis so be aware of that. Pav Bhaji was good. The Bhaji was alright. The Pav/bread was heated and buttered perfectly. The order comes with 4 Pavs so doesn't need an order of extra bread. Dahi Puri Chat and Papdi chat were both good. If I had to choose, I'd pick Papdi chat. Samosa was alright. Not bad, not great. Falooda- I'd suggest to skip it even and especially if you love Falooda. The vermicelli was odd, there's no ice cream and it tastes exactly like rose milkshake. Not much beyond it. In all, it does the job and satisfies your Indian food cravings. Don't expect it to taste like Indian street food standards. Definitely one of the good joints in the US. Me, my dad, and my brother went to Honest since we wanted to try something different and I've eaten from here many times before a few years ago but this time it was very different. Order: Baked cheese pizza - It's $12, the pizza was very small, and it had no taste. Bhel - looked nice but tasted very bland. Sandwich (can't remember which one but I know it was the first option) - It looked like something you could make at home and tasted exactly like it The workers were very kind. We spent $48 on 3 things and the sizes of everything were as big as appetizers. We came here with our toddlers kids and my in-laws who are strict vegetarians. The place was busy for lunch on Saturday. Good place with a full vegetarian menu. We ordered : - dry chili paneer -very good - schewan noodles - spicy and tasty. My 3 yr took a few bites but it was spicy for him - pav bhaji (it's like an Indian vegetarian sloppy Joe) - the pav(bread) was toasted to a buttery goodness. The veggies were okay too much masala. Good to try - Dahl puri - good to try but had some tad sweetness. We all seems to enjoy the food. It wasn't clear if we were to clear our own plates at the end. Honest review here! Love me some indian street food, and my vegetarian family members love this place. Its located in a small strip mall across from Patel brothers. Nothing fancy here, very simple, looks like a pop up restaurant. The menu is pretty extensive which is great, although they did not have many items including paneer. Running out of paneer at 1pm at a indian veg spot ,really? Other then that the food was pretty flavorful, they do drown everything in butter though. Portions are kinda small and hard to justify the slightly elevated prices. I feel "honestly" this place can do better. The food is good, it just seems poorly managed and service very nonchalant . We usually go to Naperville location. We thought of trying Niles location but we totally regret it now. The food quality does not match and presentation of food is not great. Ambience really sucks. We ordered chole bhature and cheese sandwich neither the taste or presentation was consistent with the location in Naperville. Never coming back. I happened upon this restaurant, looking for some quick vegetarian fare, and I'm so glad I stopped in. Mohnish working at the front counter was very hospitable and generous, offering me free samples of some food I was eyeing, made personalized recommendations for me (based on the fact that i don't eat dairy), and told me about the fresh masala soda they make there. I got a grilled veggie sandwich and it was outstanding. I haven't had food this good since my Indian friend's mom would send extra food with him at lunch just for me. I'll definitely be back with any friends I can bring here. I live in Evanston and the only thing at all close to this near me is at Kamdar Plaza, but its menu is not as complete as this spot. read more

My husband loves the food from Honest because he's from Gujurat, but we probably will never go here again. I honestly feel like my dad was discriminated. We've ordered so many times for pickup, and my husband orders online and my dad goes to pick up the order. Normally, they don't have certain things in stock, and will call us and ask us to replace or just give my dad a refund when he arrives. This time, we didn't pick up the call because we were busy, so when my dad arrived, he asked for a refund for the bread since they didn't have it. Typical pattern and it's the same lady that he always talks to. But she broke pattern this time and asked for his ID. When he showed his ID, she yelled at him saying that his name doesn't match the order. But the order was on HIS credit card, and yet she wouldn't give the refund claiming his ID didn't match the name on the order. But he's the one who paid for it with his credit card, so why couldn't he get a refund on his own credit card? She was basically accusing him of stealing the food. So then he obviously got upset and said that he wants a refund on the whole order and he rejected the food. She said that she could now only give a refund for the bread and he persisted. Then she said that she couldn't refund the whole order because the system is down, and he would need to take the order and complain to management later because there was no manager on duty. But it doesn't make sense that the system suddenly doesn't work when she was able to refund the bread with it. Basically, I believe this is discrimination and I will never have my dad be subjected to them again. I highly recommend that if you do order from this place, take the extra effort to call them instead of order online, because they probably will not have certain things in stock and then will give you a hard time refunding you for something you should've received in the first place. They can't do the due diligence of keeping that up to date or refunding. They need to call every time to check the order because something or the other is missing. My father in law went to pick up and she complained that it was not him in the order receipt even though he showed her his credit card which was on the receipt. Dahi puri was ok, a little sweet for me. Dosa had a good taste but wasn't crispy at all. Coconut chutney was probably the best part. Spicy chutney was not spicy actually a little sweet, not sure if I liked it. The sambhar I did not like the flavor of, was not smooth, a burnt taste or the spices weren't quiet right. Tried the masala(potatoes) and they were fine. Can't compare this to dosa in India, so if Annapurna on Devon Ave. is the standard then this is maybe two steps bellow that. I'm a bit surprised by the lower ratings, but at least on Apr 10 2021, we enjoyed two delicious masala dosas. The flavors are exceptionally well done (compared to anything I've had in the Indian district on Devon). The dosa itself could have been cooked a wee bit longer, but not something that ruined the overall meal. My hiccup with most places are the lack of flavors and spices, and thankfully, they don't shy away from it. The mango lassi was a bit lackluster -- not overly strong on mango flavors. But, I'm keen to return back and try some of their other appetizers and the few north Indian cuisines they offer. I'm optimistic those foods will have equally balanced spices as their dosa did. FYI, my point of comparison is also what I've had in Kerala. I'd recommend my friends/family give it a try. read more

I was ecstatic when I heard a location was going to open up around me. It's only been open 2 months. It's very spacious and clean. They're taking safety measures of staff wearing masks, and requiring customers to as well. The wall Art is a nice touch! As you enter, you'll be greeted by Lord Ganesh, the Elephant God of new beginnings, You'll hear Bollywood music playing softly. A menu board has visuals of their vast menu. I know I'll be back to try some of those items, hard not to with creative names and garnished well. They currently have online and in-person orders either at a kiosk when you enter or at the register, not on the phone. I think this location will do well as it's in the Patel Brothers complex so people might stop by as they get some groceries. It's only a matter of time till people get wind of this place and it'll become a staple in the community. It's here to stay...oh yay! read more

Historically, this franchise has been five stars. Whether it Covid related or some other reason, the quality of the food has deteriorated. To me, Indian Chutneys are the key condiments that need to be fresh and not "watered down". I have experienced this personally a few times. Carry Out certainly has its limitations but still poorly prepared chutney is no excuse whatsoever. It has the most classic Indian street food. The food is delectable, really. The service is fast even on a busy night. I always get their veg manchurian with gravy and scezwan noodles, the portions are filling I usually split it with someone else and im still very full. The dosa is huge like if you got it at an authentic indian resturant. I dined here recently and my group and I ordered the pav baji, vada pav, and chili paneer. We were unsure of what the third dish we should order was, and the cashier recommended the chili paneer. She definitely knows her stuff, because the chili paneer was outstandingly delicious! If you come here I cannot recommend the chili Panera enough. The pav baji was extremely tasty as well, and the vada pav was solid, but not the best version I have had. The food came out very quickly, the staff was polite and helpful, and the space was bright, spacious, and generally clean. I will say that we were assigned a specific table when we ordered our food, and when we got there, it had not been wiped down since the last diners had left, which meant that there were food crumbs and oily spots on the table. I imagine the staff would have been happy to wipe it off for us, if we had asked them to, but we just grabbed a few napkins and brushed aside the crumbs ourselves. read more

The service we got was terrible. We were waiting to get some seats and the one guy asked us to wait until two tables opened up as we were a large group. As we were waiting, another family enters from the exit door and waits for a table to be free and starts sitting down. Eventually we found a table and ordered the food. We noticed that one family that came after us who grabbed the table we were waiting for ended up getting their food first. My friend went to ask what the status was for our food and we got attitude from them. The Bhaji pav was the only good thing, everything else was less than mediocre. That being said their is no excuse for poor execution of what in an order gets priority. If you prepare a masala dosa first and then have to wait for the pav bhaji then unfortunately the dosa gets soggy.
