Spice Mantra is a nice casual restaurant for grabbing tasty south indian cuisine. I went here with my family to grab lunch on a Saturday afternoon. We were promptly seated upon arrival. The menu variety was good. Pricing was reasonable. We ordered an appetizer dish of Idli and Vada Sambar followed by individual orders of dosas which is what we came for. The food came out shortly. The dosas' texture and taste were nice. The sambar was okay but chutneys were tasty. We received good service. The restaurant's atmosphere was pleasant and inviting. I am curious to try other dishes at this restaurant. read more

What an awesome place! I have been wondering about this place but put off visiting thinking it may not be authentic, glad we got the recommendation from our neighbor and checked it out. Great flavor and heat! They asked for the heat level for my chicken biyani and I said 10 (out of 10)...they double checked and I said 10 (due to recent experience at another place where 10 was a 5)...man! I am sweating! I don't usually use the yogurt that came with it...not that I had to put yogurt and I ended up ordering mango lassi. The egg bhuji and chicken seekh kabob had great flavor too. The egg bhuji here tasted more like Chinese spicy scramble egg than what we had at other places. But that flavor was at another level! Wish my mom could make that good :p read more

This may be my new Indian go-to restaurant! Hubs and I wanted Indian and we've been meaning to try Spice Mantra. So happy we did because it was a very tasty meal! We ordered our usual samosa, chicken tandoori, and mutter paneer. We also tried the tomato basil soup and veg spring rolls. The food was seasoned well, not overly spicy (we chose American Mild and American Medium), and flavorful. I've eaten a lot of Indian food, both restaurant and home cooked, and the flavors at Spice Mantra is good with hints on the sweeter side. The samosas were a little undercooked, it was still a bit doughy in certain parts inside yet not so much that it was inedible. The portions are ample and left us with extras for leftovers. We ordered takeout, but the woman working there greeted me warmly and was very gracious. The inside is spacious and very clean. There are comfortable booths and tables. It's well lit nice big windows. The restaurant is located in a strip mall off Elmhurst Rd and Hintz. There's plenty of parking in the private lot. read more

I was excited to check out Spice Mantra, the new Indian restaurant in town. Overall, it was a great experience! 1. Food was delicious! Our server was very attentive and answered several questions we had about the menu. 2. My butter chicken was perfect for me 6/10 spice level. 3. My less adventurous friend's shrimp korma was perfect for her at 1/10 spice level. 4. Garlic naan was tasty. 5. We ended the experience with yummy desserts and a laugh at the description on our receipt The portions don't look huge when they are served, but they go far! I took more than half of my entree home and can't wait to enjoy leftovers. I did finish my rice in the restaurant and it was refilled at no additional charge. They also offer a 10% discount if you pay with cash, which saved us $5. Spice Mantra has a large dessert menu, but they were out of many of the options. We liked that the desserts are displayed in a bakery case at the back of the restaurant, so we could take a sneak peak at the options. I chose the butterscotch cake, which was moist and delicious. Wow!! I have never had Indian food so tasty! I just moved here from California and missed my local Indian food. I thought I would never find a place as good as back home, but this place is better! We got the Lamb Tikka Masala, Apollo Fish, Street Style Egg Fried Rice, Garlic Naan and the Irani Chai. We can choose our own spice level and we chose 5 on Lamb Tikka Masala, 6 Apollo Fish, and fried rice comes standard starting at 7. If you can handle spice, order 6+. If not, order 5 and below. The Lamb Tikka Masala was very tender, rich, and savory. The Apollo fish was also very tender, rich, and had a light crunch. The Street Style Egg Fried Rice is also very tasty and had a good kick to it! The service was excellent. Very attentive and kind servers with good recommendations. My husband and I recently went to try Spice Mantra. We were excited to find a new Indian food spot since we have been looking for one! First, the menu is gigantic!! I highly recommend looking at it ahead of time to have an idea of what you might want before going to eat there. We started by sharing the baby corn 65! It was delicious, but SPICY! When ordering they asked how spicy we wanted it out of 10. We decided on a 2, but it still had an AMPLE kick! We also shared the bread basket with 3 different types of Naan. All of them were baked wonderfully and tasted so good! My husband ordered the butter chicken and I had the chicken saag. We really enjoyed the flavor of both entrees! Absolutely delicious new local restaurant! The chai was phenomenal! I would come here as if it was a coffee shop just for the chai. The baby corn 65 was also a nice vegetarian twist on chicken 65 and bursting with flavor. Very flavorful and fresh lentil soup and naan as well. I have had kheer many times in many places but this was my first time having kahdu kheer and it was super delicious. The service was really friendly, and I hope they are able to attract many more customers. The restaurant is really clean and well decorated, my only suggestion would be to turn off the ceiling lights, since they have plenty of nice lighting over the tables and along the walls, it would create a nicer ambiance and feel less sterile. read more

Go here if you want some extraordinary Indian food! We had Garlic Naan and Peshwari Naan. The Garlic Naan was the best I've had anywhere with a wonderful buttery taste, and the Peshwari Naan was so interesting in that it had a sweet nutty flavor, totally unlike any other naan I've had elsewhere. We had the Masala Dosa and its accompanying sauces, all of it being tremendously good. We also had Butter Chicken and it was the most flavorful and tender Butter Chicken I've ever had. And a Mango Lassi that was unbelievably good. I'm so glad this place has opened and is even better than the previous Indian restaurant that was here and was my favorite. read more

What a wonderful addition to dining options near Prospect Heights! We ordered Butter Chicken, Mirchi Bajji, Chicken 65, Shrimp Korma, Chicken Dum Biryani, Vijaywada Chicken Biryani, the Spice Mantra special Chicken Curry, Schezwan Chicken Fried Rice and a couple types of naan. There were six of us having this dinner and we loved everything! The staff were friendly and very helpful. Looking forward to going back and trying more items from their large menu!
