First time at this restaurant and I loved it. My family and I went here on Tuesday 4/26, party of 8, for dinner. My family ordered a large pretzel, chips and dip, and other items off of the menu. So this review is a struggle. Do I round up or down? I rounded down. It should be 3.5. Beer: They have Guinness which is fantastic, but my first pour was terrible and it was warm. They did fix it though. I love a good Guinness. Food: my son got a kids Mac and cheese for 8$. It was literally a cup of craft. That was disappointing. However, the pan seared Mahi was fantastic. It was not fishy at all and the flavor was great. The veggies though were raw so that wasn't so great but the asparagus was grilled and were very good. Service: it was solid. The waitress kept checking in on us, and she poured a good second Guiness. Price was a little high for me. Do you understand the struggle? As soon as you walk inside, you feel like you're in a deep cavern with the high ceilings and dark wood. But your mind changes when you hear the LOUD sound of people talking over one another. Very, very loud with acoustics to match. Met a friend for a social lunch, to catch up. A/C blasting so you won't need to complain about warmth. Lots and lots of tables to accommodate practically any size party you go with. We were seated at the far end, by the windows. It was lunchtime and very, very busy. We got there at 12:30 and got a seat immediately. We were given menus and lunch special menu. We read over the menus for about 14 minutes waiting for the waitress to come get our order. My friend ordered the seared dolphin (mahi mahi for tourists) and I ordered the shrimp & crab Cobb salad. We ordered water for our beverage. My friend and I tried to have a conversation but we kept asking one another to repeat because we could not hear one another. We were no more than 30 inches apart. My friend tried to yell, but she was still muffled by the loud chattering of other diners. Our food came - my friend got the side Caesar salad which came out first. She kept saying it was the largest side salad she had ever had. My Cobb salad came out with I believe - a tablespoon of real crab meat right in the middle of the salad bowl. I didn't bother counting the shrimp, but I believe there may have been 4. They were perfectly cooked and plump. My salad was quite good, even though I thought there would be more crab meat.. Silly me. I ate all my salad, and my friend never touched her dolphin because the side salad completely filled her up. She ended up taking her lunch home. We sat for awhile, waiting for the waitress to bring out check - but it was on some kind of digital tablet that she held in her hands. If you're going to contemplate the tip - DON"T. She's standing there holding the digital check and watching everything you're doing.... So just mind your business, hit the tip button and pay! Got it? No thinking... you won't be able to. Ambience was LOUD. You cannot socialize inside. BUT - you can sit outside in the Spring weather, where it's much quieter and you can visit and chat all you want. I suspect dinner hour is the same. LOUD as hyll. I have no desire to even try... Food is good. Food is fresh. LARGE portions of salad - minus protein (minuscule), looking around it looks like you get a large side of french fries. Salad bowls are large. Service is attentive. There are bussers that come around and will fill your water glass, take away a dish, and everyone has a smile on their face. I would recommend this place for a meal - but forget socializing unless you want to SPEAK LOUDLY OR YELL at the person across the table. OR eat outside where it's quieter and comfortable. The waitress Angel was rude and seemed to be annoyed that she was waiting on us. She has served us before and is always nasty and rude. WOW!! Tonight at CJ Black's Located on the SW corner of Hiatus and 84. We love spinach/artichoke dip and order it at many places...but the WHOLE family agrees that this is still the reigning champion My better half had the California Pork Sanwich (not pictured) that she loved. I had the fish n chips. Hand battered to order HUGE pieces of delicious cod with a ton of their great fries. The 12 year old gets the adult chicken tenders because she's a chicken tender snob and states they are the absolute best because like the fish, these are hand battered order. We always know it's WAY too much food and definitely enjoy the leftovers. Becca (apologies if the spelling is off) was our server and she did a wonderful job with our refills and everything else. If you live here, and haven't been here, you are really missing out as the entire menu is diverse PLUS don't forget about their great sushi. I came on a Friday night around 5:30 as a party of 5. The restaurant seemed pretty busy, and I saw a couple of people waiting. I was told 30 minutes. The restaurant got busier and busier. 30 minutes passed. I go up to ask how much longer and get told by the same woman that it would be an additional 30-40 minutes. Why not just be honest with me up front and tell me an hour? I then didn't have time to eat at a restaurant before attending a play. Just bad customer service. 3-16-23 Lunch noon Although I passed this place many times before as it is in the same shopping plaza as my pool store and Carvel I never gave it a second thought. So when I got picked up at my office for a lunch appointment and my colleague suggested CJ Blacks I said ok. Once we arrived plenty of parking out front. We entered the building and it seemed a little cold from the air conditioning so we chose to sit outside. We were given menus by the hostess so by the time the server came we were ready to order. At first look at their extensive lunch menu I was going to get the tuna melt. But than since I wasn't really hungry I got the sushi instead. Normally wouldn't get sushi from a non sushi restaurant but thought I would give it a try. I got the #4 which was the California rolls and the JB roll which is salmon and cream cheese. They were both delicious. The only thing that was odd as no dish to put my soy sauce in so I just drizzled it over the top of all my rolls and added the wasabi to each. They did have chop sticks with it as well. My colleague paid the check using the WR code and we were quickly gone. Would I come back? Most definitely as I liked the wide variety on the menu. My colleague had the salmon and was very happy with it. Also she chose this place and raved about how much fun it is at night. read more

One of our favorite places for great food a drinks. One major issue. It's very loud inside when it's busy. I mean so loud it's hard to have a conversation at the table. My husband and I had gone to a fall festival and made a U-turn to visit CJ Blacks- I'm glad we did, because the warm, rustic interior was the perfect pairing for a fall day! The bar when you walk in is so cozy and inviting. The decor is polished but feels like home. The service was great and our waitress was very friendly. We just ordered some drinks and the beer cheese pretzel - which was plenty. That thing was bigger than your head. They brought it out in a pizza box, probably because they know that no one can finish it. The beer cheese dipping sauce was so great. I had to C(J) what this place was all about and I was not disappointed! The food was delicious, the spinach goat cheese salad was so unique. It came with avocado, blackberries, in addition to the chicken, and it all paired wonderfully with the vinaigrette. This salad might be the GOAT. Also, the pretzel was so delicious and tasted like a pizza! The reason for the 4/5 stars is the service, which I felt was very lacking for midday on a Monday. CJ Blacks is a staple in the Broward area. I went to CJ Blacks with my family on a Saturday afternoon. The restaurant wasn't overly busy and we were seated extremely fast. The ambiance is definitely more of a bar style, but is also a family restaurant. CJ Blacks has such a wide variety of food for selection. Including sushi, sandwiches, burgers, salads and much more. Have you met ... CJ Blacks! This a nice spot on State Road 84, with great drinks and equally good food. To be honest this our second time here and it doesn't disappoint. This place is normally pretty full with a wide choice of appetizers, entrees and drink. I really like their wide variety of bourbon and whiskies. This is one of my boyfriend's favorite local places so I was looking forward to finally trying it. They have lots of outdoor seating which is great. We ordered the 1.5 lb warm pretzel which comes with marinara sauce and a beer cheese dip. The pretzel was so good, and huge, we took some home. The menu has something for everyone, burgers, sushi, ribs, French onion soup, etc. My Boyfriend and I shared the ribs with sweet potato fries, and an order of Brussel sprouts cooked in an Asian sauce. It seems like this restaurant gets a lot of good reviews from a Facebook group that I'm in. Decided to go here on a Friday night. Did a call ahead at six and they told us it would be about an hour wait which was fine. Once we got there we waited for about a half hour. There is a very nice size sitting area outside with tables and high tops. Several people had their dogs and since I'm a dog lover I was happy to see that. In retrospect we should have requested an outside table. The reason we should have requested an outside table is because the inside was so uncomfortably loud. Like booming loud. Like I know I'm 53 years old and I'm getting sensitive to loud music and noise but this was just ridiculous and uncomfortable. About a half hour after we were seated, a band started playing country rock music which I normally like, but couple that with the extreme noise and it was horrible. We were a party of three and had the chicken tenders, a hamburger and the filet sliders. All of the fries came out cold. Apparently the waitress didn't believe me because she took one off of my plate. Anyway she brought out three piping hot bowls of fries, one of which was the truffle fries. The Truffle fries were nothing to write home about. I enjoyed the sliders but they were on the dry side. It took three requests to get some au jus. For the most part we enjoyed our meals. We agreed that we would like to return at an off time, perhaps when it's not so loud. read more

CJ Blacks has the Decor of a typical Texas Barbecue restaurant. Lots of wood and the like. We went there for a holiday luncheon and we sat outside on the patio. There was more than enough room for all of us. The server was very nice and friendly. She was quick with the drinks and got us our food very quickly. I had the brisket sandwich. It was just okay. The brisket was perfectly cooked, moist and tender. What took away from the sandwich was that they smothered the thing in barbecue sauce. There was so much barbecue sauce that the bun was soggy before I got the sandwich. And the sauce wasn't that good. It was a very thin barbecue sauce. The other people in the group looked like they enjoyed their meals. If I'm in the area again, I will definitely give them a second try. read more

All around such great experience!! We came for dinner pretty late around 8:30pm but they were open until 12am!! We sat inside because it was pretty chilly out. I loved the inside ambiance it had such a cabin woodsy feeling.. they must of had some large parties because it was a little loud but nothing too crazy. We were seated as far away from the large loud crowd as possible (good call on the hostesses part!) we were immediately greeted by our super energetic waitress Sarah! She was informative of the menu and recommended some great things for us - everything sounded so delicious! We started with the appetizer which was a 1.5 pound giant pretzel! It was delicious and perfectly cooked with a nice crunch on the outside and a buttery warm inside. They serve it in a to go box because you are most definitely taking some home for leftovers. It comes with beer cheese sauce which was delicious and also marinara which was a first for me but ended up being a great yummy pairing. For dinner we shared filet sliders which were cooked perfectly. Paired with sweet potato fries which were like the best I've ever had and HUGE... I see a common trend here ;) Overall such a good experience from the service to the food and ambiance I can't wait to go back and check out their other great dishes they serve up. I absolutely love this place. I come here all the time with Mt friends and family. It is a very comfortable environment with amazing servers and service. My favorite items are the Mahi Mahi sandwich, Buffalo chicken sandwich, Buffalo chicken strips, and fried pickles. Everything is made to order and the staff is very approachable, accommodating, and kind. Richie the bartender is amazing! My favorite server in the restaurant is Karly! I met a girlfriend here on a Saturday night for dinner. We were offered a shared table or a small two seater at the bar. We picked the two seater. For a starter we ordered the 1.5lb pretzel to share and the power bowl salad for dinner. If you order the pretzel I hope you're either hungry or there are a lot of people because it's huge. It's served in a small pizza box with cheddar beer cheese and marinara sauce. Both were really tasty with the soft, warm pretzel. I only took three bites of the salad because I was so full from the pretzel but it was tasty. It was full of roasted sweet potatoes and chick peas and the dressing was really good. I took it home and had it for lunch the next day. The staff was very friendly and attentive. There was a good band playing too. The only complaint we had was that the table was very small. Please be aware of the menu prices as they're not real. We ordered a bottle of wine that was $59 on the menu and once we got the bill we were charged $100. We brought this up to the manager who absolutely did not take responsibility for their mistake, apologized or offered any resolution to this issue. To make things worse, the waitress told us before leaving that this issue happens often so basically management is lying and taking advantage of the customers with false advertisement. Shame on you. We were never here before but had a dr appointment nearby, so we thought we'd give it a try. I personally love any establishment that has beer, wine, liquor, a regular food menu AND a sushi menu. Best of both worlds to accommodate my husband and me. He wouldn't eat raw fish to save his life so often I go for mine without him. He ordered the "Soprano". It was large and filling and he liked it. The chicken was not dry or overcooked, (a deal breaker) and the toppings were really fresh. I got the "Refreshing Roll". It's a riceless roll (my preference always) that has tuna, salmon, white fish, imitation kani, avocado, scallion & masago. It was good, but it's important to note that if you're really hungry, this option alone might not fill you up. The roll pieces, albeit 12 of them, are kinda small. I uploaded a pic with chopsticks included to try to give you a better sense. Did I regret my choice? No, not at all. It was pricey IMO for what I got though, but at least it was good. Didn't care for the ponzu sauce that accompanied it so I asked for kimchee sauce instead and was charged an additional $1 for it. In all fairness, I looked again, and they did disclose this on their menu, I'm just not used to this kind of charge is all. One of my favorite lunch spots. Consistently good food, large portions at fair prices. Even when they are slammed, which they do get pretty busy, the service is always great. My favorite appetizer is the buffalo shrimp. The shrimps are HUGE! I love seeing their specials and ordering from there but my go to lunch meal is the mahi sandwich. It's unbelievable how fresh the food tastes and how large the portion is for the price cheaper than a fast food joint.
