Came in last night with a friend and we ate dinner at the bar. I can't say enough good things! First, Frankie, our bartender was phenomenal. He made the absolute best martinis. We ordered the spinach queso, and it was delicious. It is quite a large serving, so be ready to share. We split the fillet and baked potato, and it was plenty of food for the two of us. The steak tasted wood fire grilled and it was wonderful. The potato was so large that even with sharing there was quite a bit left over. It was private enough yet we could still see the hustle and bustle going on. The calamari appetizer was a nice start. It is made in a house and not pre-frozen out of a bag. They marinate it to tenderize the calamari first. I found it to be good but too soft for me. It was almost mushy underneath and crispy coating. I had the prime rib with loaded, baked potato as an entrée. The prime rib shined! This is one of their main features on their menu. The loaded baked potato was humongous. It could be a meal by itself. I only ate about half of it next time I would probably order asparagus or other vegetables as a side. Whatever your preferred cut, it's guaranteed to be high quality & cooked exactly as you like. Between these options it makes it almost impossible to choose what to order but that's not necessarily a bad problem to have! Their calamari is incredible, as well. Definitely a great way to start your meal. The shoestring fries are crispy, loaded with flavor & served in massive portions. My personal favorite side is the "NYO Mac & cheese" though. It's baked to order & can't be forgotten about. I usually wouldn't go this far but if you like Mac & cheese you NEED to order it, no questions asked. You can really taste the variety of different cheeses they put into it. It's creamy, rich, has a beautifully baked top layer of cheese & is just all around perfect. I was so hungry and craving a good juicy burger. (Hence no photos, I ate it too quickly) I ordered an old fashioned burger. It was prepared exactly the way I wanted, with aged tillamook cheddar, grilled onion, served with the extra ketchup and mustard I requested. The service was excellent. Judeah took such good care of us checking to make sure we were enjoying our food and refilling our water glasses whenever they got low. My friend thought her burger was overcooked. We started with the cypress salad (Crispy chicken, pecans, avocado, tomatoes, cucumbers, bacon, cheese, cornbread croutons, ranch dressing). It was divine. For our main entree we shared the Palermo Chicken, which again was plenty of food for two. This is a pan fried chicken dish with goat cheese, beurre blanc and sun-dried tomatoes sauce, couscous and broccoli. The chicken sauce was the best. We are occasional diners at their Plantation restaurant. But we will not be returning... They have started to make the "suggested" tip based on the Total that includes tax, not the Sub-Total as has been standard in the business for years and years. This is completely disingenuous as most people don't even bother to look and just click the tip percentage button without checking to see what they are tipping on. And J Alexanders knows this! I questioned two managers after our dinner. The first manager had no clue what I was even talking about, the second (more senior) manager knew exactly what I was talking about. He didn't try to deny it, all he said was that this is something being done at the corporate level. Came here for a date night/belated birthday celebration for my husband. It was easy to make a reservation online and thankfully I did because at 6:30 on a Friday evening the wait time for a table was an hour long. We had a reservation and still had a short wait, that's how busy it was. It's great to see this spot doing so well. When we sat down we got a special menu that said happy birthday, which was a nice touch! I ended up ordering off of the special menu, the Tuscan steak, which was phenomenal. To start the meal, I got an espresso martini. I love that it came with a sidecar, basically a two for one deal. My husband got the doppelganger, he loves whiskey, and it was delicious. We had not been to J. Alexander's in a few years (too busy trying new restaurants). And a friend's raving about it made me want to try it again. Hubby and I were surprised at how packed the place was on a Tuesday at noontime. It was full and buzzing with activity. We were seated promptly and got a lovely server, Gina. We tried the fried calamari rings appetizer, which was so good I could have just eaten the entire plate of squid all by myself for lunch. Hubby got a steak burger, which boasted tenderloin and ribeye. I opted for my friend Scott's favorite meal, Mr. Jack's Crispy Chicken Platter. Both came with crispy shoestring fries. The chicken also came with a mound of delicious cole slaw. I am not a red meat lover, but the burger was very tasty and was probably my favorite of the two proteins. We shared the burger and the cole slaw, ate a few pieces of the chicken planks (tender and crispy), and left the others, along with a whole lot of fries, to take home for dinner. We also opted for a piece of carrot cake to go, we were too full to eat any more but had to try it. It was good, but hubby didn't like the coconut or nuts in it. (I liked the coconut.) Well J Alexander's never disappoints. It was my daughter's birthday had a reservation for 7:00 and was seated quickly. Ordered a few martinis which were made perfectly.
