Service was slow. Asked for a wine menu which had no prices listed. My husband ordered a 'Piggy' burger (pulled pork). Half way through he noticed wax paper stuck to the cheese. (Probably to separate the cheese slices). Waitress apologized, told the kitchen manager & said she would take it off the check. (Which she did.) Not once did a manager stop by to apologize. As a former restaurant GM, I would have not only visited the table, but would have comped any other items the guest had with their meal. Not the customer service I would expect! read more

Having been to CJ Blacks before, and not having the greatest experience, I decided to give it another try. The food we had ended up being pretty good, but the service was just all right. We sat at the bar, and it took forever to get service and items out to us. When another bartender started helping us out things got a little bit better, but overall it was meh. Another tip is not to go on Friday evenings if you don't want obnoxious crowds because it looks like this is a hotspot for after work happy hours on Fridays. Luckily we got there later on in the evening when it was dying down, but it was still kind of annoying. And I'm somebody who can put up with a lot of annoying. Food wise, we got a few items. We got the French dip, flatbread, pizza, and potato skins. I feel like it's a little pricey for what you're getting but it's not a huge complaint. The food did come out tasty. Would I go back, maybe. I really have tried to like this place and I think I've given it enough of a chance to come back from previously poor experiences. They're just too inconsistent. Between poor service and waiting forever to be waited on as well as the food just being too hit and miss I can't in good faith recommend CJ blacks. Did an Uber Eats order maybe a week or so ago. The food just wasn't that great. My steak was raw.... Asked for a medium, it was that deep red color and was cold. Which was interesting because part only a small portion of the end was cooked. I'm not sure how that happened but at least 10% of my steak was good... Ordered wings half half honey and minced garlic. They were okay, nothing to really write home around. The Chowder tasted strange to me, nothing like a foul taste but just wasn't good. The chicken tender meal was nothing to right home about either. I just wish they weren't so hit and miss. read more

Food-wise, CJ Blacks always hits the spot! They have such a wide-ranging menu, from burgers to sushi, and everything is delicious. My personal go-to favorites include their French onion soup, which I honestly think is the best I've ever had, and their spinach dip--it's always hot, tasty, and full of flavor. On my last visit, I tried the farmhouse burger with a lamb patty, and I have to say, it was fantastic! Every time I visit, the food is consistently a 10 out of 10. However, the reason I'm rating this so low has to do with the service. Despite the food being top-notch, the service leaves much to be desired. The servers never seem particularly happy to be there, and they're often not the friendliest or most attentive. I've been here over five times, and I can't recall a single instance where the service was great--well, except for that one time I sat at the bar. The ambience is nice, kind of like a local pub with a regular crowd, and the place is always clean, which I appreciate. Honestly, if management could focus on improving the service, this place would be so much better. Had not been there in years, but decided to go last night. My wife keeps telling me that their burgers are super so I figured I'd try one. But first we had to bang bang shrimp their version, really really good. They were just really big shrimp and it was very good. The cheeseburger was cooked exactly the way I ordered it however it lacked in flavor it basically had no seasoning on it. The bun was soft and the vegetables were fresh. My wife had a loaded baked potato and a salad, and they were both very good. It was a nice night so we sat outside and it was a lot quieter than it was inside. Our waitress was nice and funny and real-definitely a highlight. The giant pretzel was huge, soft, fresh and definitely a conversation starter based on its size. I appreciated that it came with a second dip besides just the usual cheese, as we had lactose intolerant people at our table. I was deciding between two different sandwiches, and ended up getting the Mona Lisa since it was designated on the menu as a CJ Black's favorite. I was also excited to have some of my favorite flavors all together in one sandwich. The serving size was huge and the chicken was cooked well, but the sandwich was pretty dry and had a surprising lack of flavor for all of the different ingredients. Went on New Years eve, (I know people don't like working then) but we went at 5pm, early. Server was totally out of it, never brought waters, when I finally was able to catch her and ask, she gave me a dirty type look. Food runners Came out with our appetizer, dropped in on the table and never brought plates. Then my soup ended up arriving WITH my meal. After taking our order, we never saw the server again till the bill, nor was my water glass ever filled again making it so I couldn't even finish my meal as I need water when I eat to help swallow the food so I just sat there. I am not a complainer and didn't want to get up and get angry trying to flag someone down (it wasn't even busy as it was early). I still tipped 25% because I cant stiff people but my meal was really ruined for New Year. The food was so so but it cost me $80.00 with the tip for two people for a sandwich, hamburger, soup and a brussel sprout appetizer. This place is a crap-shoot on how it will work out for you in regarding service, quality of food etc. At $40.00 I would take a chance but at $80.00, I will never go again. read more

It's hit or miss here. They keep changing the wine menu. When they have delicious wine on happy hour I like to come back. Sometimes they have cheap wine and I don't appreciate the taste for the price. The food is good but service is slow. Most times I have to request my food or drink a few times. Great steaks, great burgers, great sushi, great appetizers, etc. Seafood. They have a ton of options. - Long time duo that does live music on the weekends are they are great!! Cons: - Can get a lil rowdy late nights on the weekends - Can be a little pricey (prices have gone up since COVID) - It is potentially loud during high traffic times so if you want an intimate, quiet dinner, sit outside. Tried CJ Blacks based on a friend's recommendation. Showed up at 5pm on a Sunday, the establishment was not crowded. We were sat right away. The food was very good. I had the Soprano sandwich (grilled chicken breast, with roasted peppers fresh mozzarella, arugula, basil pesto, on a toasted ciabatta roll. The sandwich was HUGE! I could only eat half. The basil pesto was the right amount to not make the delicious bread soggy which I really appreciated. I enjoyed it and did not need the side of fries. The menu has a lot of interesting options, I will be back to try something else! Our server, Angie, was very friendly and answered questions honestly. I hope the other servers are just as personable because it truly added to the experience. When we finished eating, we sat at the bar for another drink. The bartender made tasty drinks. The place was very casual. Not sure about the acoustics because there is live music on Friday and Saturday nights but there was also plenty of seating outside which was more crowded when we were leaving an hour later. As soon as you walk inside, you feel like you're in a deep cavern with the high ceilings and dark wood. But your mind changes when you hear the LOUD sound of people talking over one another. Very, very loud with acoustics to match. Met a friend for a social lunch, to catch up. A/C blasting so you won't need to complain about warmth. Lots and lots of tables to accommodate practically any size party you go with. We were seated at the far end, by the windows. It was lunchtime and very, very busy. We got there at 12:30 and got a seat immediately. We were given menus and lunch special menu. We read over the menus for about 14 minutes waiting for the waitress to come get our order. My friend ordered the seared dolphin (mahi mahi for tourists) and I ordered the shrimp & crab Cobb salad. We ordered water for our beverage. My friend and I tried to have a conversation but we kept asking one another to repeat because we could not hear one another. We were no more than 30 inches apart. My friend tried to yell, but she was still muffled by the loud chattering of other diners. Our food came - my friend got the side Caesar salad which came out first. She kept saying it was the largest side salad she had ever had. My Cobb salad came out with I believe - a tablespoon of real crab meat right in the middle of the salad bowl. I didn't bother counting the shrimp, but I believe there may have been 4. They were perfectly cooked and plump. My salad was quite good, even though I thought there would be more crab meat.. Silly me. I ate all my salad, and my friend never touched her dolphin because the side salad completely filled her up. She ended up taking her lunch home. We sat for awhile, waiting for the waitress to bring out check - but it was on some kind of digital tablet that she held in her hands. If you're going to contemplate the tip - DON"T. She's standing there holding the digital check and watching everything you're doing.... So just mind your business, hit the tip button and pay! Got it? No thinking... you won't be able to. Ambience was LOUD. You cannot socialize inside. BUT - you can sit outside in the Spring weather, where it's much quieter and you can visit and chat all you want. I suspect dinner hour is the same. LOUD as hyll. I have no desire to even try... Food is good. Food is fresh. LARGE portions of salad - minus protein (minuscule), looking around it looks like you get a large side of french fries. Salad bowls are large. Service is attentive. There are bussers that come around and will fill your water glass, take away a dish, and everyone has a smile on their face. I would recommend this place for a meal - but forget socializing unless you want to SPEAK LOUDLY OR YELL at the person across the table. OR eat outside where it's quieter and comfortable. WOW!! Tonight at CJ Black's Located on the SW corner of Hiatus and 84. We love spinach/artichoke dip and order it at many places...but the WHOLE family agrees that this is still the reigning champion My better half had the California Pork Sanwich (not pictured) that she loved. I had the fish n chips. Hand battered to order HUGE pieces of delicious cod with a ton of their great fries. The 12 year old gets the adult chicken tenders because she's a chicken tender snob and states they are the absolute best because like the fish, these are hand battered order. We always know it's WAY too much food and definitely enjoy the leftovers. Becca (apologies if the spelling is off) was our server and she did a wonderful job with our refills and everything else. If you live here, and haven't been here, you are really missing out as the entire menu is diverse PLUS don't forget about their great sushi. I love eating here! The menu is like the entire world on a sheet. Even when my family doesn't feel like eating sushi I could still have it! Not to mention the inside atmosphere with the woody aesthetic is welcoming, and the reason why I like to go here with my family. I recommend their In n Out burger-- it's TRULY a work of art!
