I visited restaurant for lunch. Doesn't seem that the restaurant offers separate lunch menu, so I had to order from the regular menu. I got Chicken Tortilla soup as my appetizer, and it was excellent. I consider myself a chicken tortilla soup connoisseur, generally order it whenever available. The version at Circa was delicious, with still crunchy veggies, good amount of heat (spiciness), and served at a perfect temperature. Very enjoyable. I had Grilled Chicken sandwich as my "main dish" and it was very tasty, served with perfectly crispy and not overly salty fries. All in all, delicious. Outstanding service, prompt, friendly, attentive. Definitely recommended. read more

Was staying nearby and found this place was actually booked marked in my Yelp account so I decided to check it out. The wings and mac & cheese were absolutely delicious. I wish I could have it again. I also ordered a spicy pineapple margarita, which was a Mocktail by the way. The waitress did a fantastic job making this drink for me to my acquired taste. The staff was super helpful and friendly and the ambience was phenomenal. Whoever the DJ is or whoever made the playlist for this place had me wanting to dance. Next time in DC, I'm adding this to my places to stop and eat at. read more

Yes! Yes! Yes! I'm counting the days until I can eat here again! I met a friend for dinner here, and we were both blown away by the service and the food. Also, for the area, the prices were beyond reasonable. I had the spinach and goat cheese salad (minus goat cheese) - it was fresh, and the bacon and walnuts really added some great depth of flavor and texture. For my main dish, I went with the four cheese macaroni (which is a starter). It was definitely a good enough size for a single person as a meal, especially since I had the salad to start. It was super creamy - I consider myself a bit of a Mac and cheese connoisseur, and this is one of the better ones I've had. As I wrote this, I'm trying to figure out how soon I can come back and have this dish again! The only complaint is that if you are driving in from outside the area, parking is a bit of a pain. read more

Overall the ambiance of this place was nice - clean and well lit. We got some seats by the windows in a booth and they were comfortable. 3 stars though because of the food. The Thai Shrimp Salad comes with their Shotgun Shrimp and a big bowl of veggies dressed with a Thai peanut sauce. The salad didn't taste the freshest and had some romaine that was browning. It was very busy at lunch time. It was hard to get attention or service from waitstaff. We ordered my favorite appetizer 3.5*BRUSCHETTA. It still tasted pretty good, but not as good as before. It lost its wow factor and became an ordinary dish. 4.5*SESAME CRUSTED TUNA salad included mixed greens, romaine. edamame, red onion, shredded carrots, cucumbers, avocado, grape tomatoes, jicama, herbs, crispy wontons with creamy ginger dressing. Very fresh and tasty. Tuna was tender and dipped in sesame. 4.5*CIRCA BURGER was made from Angus beef, aged cheddar, lettuce tomato, onion, scallion aioli, brioche bun and fries. We went for a friend's birthday dinner, and while she enjoyed her strawberry mojito (which was delicious), the rest of the experience fell short. We started with the calamari, which was slightly rubbery and not crispy enough, plus there were more vegetables than actual calamari. The birthday girl ordered the burger, which was cooked medium and tasted good, with the fries being a highlight. Delicious food and drinks! I met up with a few friends to have drinks and eat. We split apps (Brussel sprouts and pretzel bread!) and I got the chicken sandwich. It was far from boring! The cocktail was tasty but a bit pricy for what you got. I am only giving 4 stars because they seemed a little stingy with the condiments for the pretzel bread and the cocktail was a bit weak for the price. The chicken sandwich was really good (and quite big!) and the sweet potato fries were super crispy, which I loved! Love this place! The set up is simple but just right. There is a lot of natural light which already sets a good vibe. The short ribs are a MUST! You will only need your fork since they are so tender. They aren't super fatty and they are seasoned well. The sides are mashed potatoes and spinach with a fried onion halo but you can switch them out for something else if you want. I like it as is and clean the plate every time. The purple rain is pretty good as well. On the sweeter side, and no strong alcohol taste (which I prefer). I stopped in for an early dinner here recently while in DC on business. It was busier than I would have expected for the time of day, but they were able to seat me at a table with only a short wait. The waiters were terrific; I had arrived near the end of one's shift and she seamlessly passed me off to her colleague before heading out, including a special request I had. The blackberry margarita was so awesome I had a second one just for fun. I also ordered the heirloom tomato bruschetta from the seasonal menu. It wasn't the little bruschetta bread I would have expected, rather more like a garlic toast, but it was pretty tasty. I do wish they had disclosed in the menu description that it contained onions, though. The chicken paillard was good, but began to feel a little oily especially toward the end of the dish. I would certainly dine here again if given the opportunity, but might choose a different entree next time. read more

I made a reservation online a few days ahead of time on the weekend for my family of 5 with ease. There is plenty of street parking around navy yard. We came during the Morgan Wallen concert so it was especially busy, but I was able to find a spot. We enjoyed several appetizers during our stay, that were small in size, but extremely flavorful. The flavors are well developed and complex. The poke nachos were weird really delicious and the pretzel loaf was also outstanding. I decided to order the jambalaya for my main course, and was really pleased with this meal . The andouille sausage in the dish was incredibly Chris and delicious and paired well with the shrimp and pasta in the dish. Came here after checking out the cherry blossoms by the tidal basin. We sat on the patio which was a great spot on a nice, sunny Sunday afternoon. Service was a little slow, and halfway through our meal they did switch our server. This led to some confusion with some of our drink orders which got mixed up, and then ended up getting charged for drinks we didn't order or drink. They were good about fixing the check though. For food we got the pretzel bread to start. This was delicious, and loved the mustard butter to go with it. For my meal I got the fried chicken sandwich, which was perfectly fried and had pickles on top (I asked for it without lettuce). It tasted just like a chik-fil-a chicken sandwich and was amazing. Service was so-so. Food was ok. Biggest disappointment was the pre-tax 4% service fee that they add on to the bill as a result of initiative 82, which raised minimum wage for service workers. Basically they passed the cost of the wage increase onto the customers so that the business doesn't actually pay for any additional labor costs. The fact that it's pre-tax is also annoying, as it then also increases the overall tax and tip. So essentially the 4% service fee ends up adding about 6% onto the overall bill. Bad business practice. I won't come here again out of principle. read more

CIRCA was amazing!! The food was SO good. We had the wings, the shrimp, and the pretzel appetizer. All three were great choices. My kids had the steak and frites, my mom had the salmon salad, and I had the salmon entree. I'm not even a big salad fan but I wanted to steal my mom's salad - it was so good!! For dessert we had the raspberry cheesecake with the oreo crust and the chocolate lava cake. My only complaint is the lava cake was overdone...no chocolate poured out....but it was tasty nonetheless. When we made reservations we didn't know that the Nats had a game that night so parking was a bear!!..so make sure you plan accordingly. read more

Tried out this restaurant for the first time on a Saturday evening and it did not disappoint. I came with a fairly large party, and it was on a game day, so my expectations for service weren't too high. I was wrong!! The service alone was outstanding. My table had Isaac and Idon as our servers for the night and they were phenomenal. Kind, friendly, patient, and attentive. We did not feel rushed, and Idon came and checked on us throughout our tjme there. Our food came out in great timing. And along with the service, the food was good too!! I ordered the brussel sprouts to start. 10/10!! The balsamic glaze plus the blue cheese crumble. It worked!! Only downside to that is, i offered to share with the table...mistake!! For my entree I got the short rib. 9/10 perfectly cooked, u could use a spoon to cut the beef. It was served over a bed of mashed potatoes and spinach. My wife and I went here on a Thursday night after seeing the great reviews about this place. My wife and I have been to many other Circa locations and have always had a great experience ,so we thought we would try this location. To say that this place did not live up to the hype is an understatement. The atmosphere was nice and the drinks were good but that's about it. Our waiter started off pretty attentive, but as the night went on we saw her less and less. The food was a bit underwhelming and was average at best. I ordered the steak frites and my wife ordered the short ribs. My steak frites were pretty good but I felt like the restaurant was really stingy and I barely got much steak. If anything I was given an enormous amount of fries but barely any steak. My wife's short ribs were pretty bland and nothing to write home about. She also barely had any mashed potatoes and had more spinach than anything else. Our waiter consistently walked past us numerous times without checking in on us. When it came time for the check it took us about 15 to 20 minutes to get the check. We will most likely not be returning to this establishment. read more

The trout was delicious and packed with flavor, but it had a lot of butter which drowned the broccolini and mash. The Brussels sprout were the same, meaning they were drenched with oil, (I'm assuming bacon grease as well), and balsamic. It was too much. The flavor though, amazing! This a neighborhood favorite of mine. The food and drinks are are good and the service is always great. It's a great spot for group gatherings, date night or solo dining. I visited most recently for a solo birthday lunch. For drinks I had the maple bourbon old fashioned. I enjoyed it so much I ordered the to go drink which came in a nicely packaged bottle. Love the evolution of the to go drinks! For food I had the tuna poke nachos and the free range brick chicken, both two of my favorites! I think I get the tuna poke nachos each time I go because they are so good! The chicken is nice and juicy. The barbecue chicken flatbread another one of my favorites. If you're visiting for happy hour I definitely recommend the wings, calamari and shotgun shrimp. I look forward to my visit here each time. read more

If I could give them 4.5 stars I would. Circa is consistently overall a great choice in Navy Yard. I've been here plenty of times before. The most recent time I went was with a group of 7 people during early afternoon on a weekday. The service overall was quick and everyone was pretty nice and helpful. Out of 7 people only 1 person's order it was wrong, but it was able to get taken care of pretty quickly. The salmon burger is really good, but don't get too excited about the fries. Overall, the noise level is not too loud, which made it an even more enjoyable experience. I would definitely recommend! read more

I just had a very unpleasant experience trying to eat at this nearly empty establishment. The online reservations showed open spots every 15 minutes until closing, so I thought being a walk-in wouldn't be an issue. Upon entering and asking for a table for two, I was treated very rudely when I was told they had no tables available and were only accepting reservations. I questioned why I was able to make a reservation online right then, and the rude lady smacked her lips, rolled her eyes, and told me that if that's what I wanted to do, I could go ahead. So, I made the reservation online, but she walked away without a word to speak with another woman. This woman informed me that they were fully booked with reservations and that it was unfair to seat me given the reservations they were expecting. I explained that I had just made a reservation online. I didn't understand why reservations were available if I wouldn't be seated. None of the reasons provided made sense, and it felt as though she assumed I was incompetent. She then offered to seat me in an hour, which would have been after my reservation time, completely contradicting what she had just said. Ultimately, I decided not to spend my money at this establishment, as it was clear they did not want to serve me. I am truly disappointed since I have never had an issue in the past. Oh well! I will gladly go to an establishment that values great customer service and appreciates my business. read more

Had two different waiters so was confusing. After finishing our meal, we tried to be patient but finally after 20 min we had to (again) ask for basic things (the check) the couple next to us also had to ask for their check after we first arrived. Should have been a warning to us. Then they have the nerve to warn you at the door about some extra special tax for cost of living increase.
