Chuy's has really gone downhill after many years of being awesome and being our family and friends go-to restaurant. The meals are smaller and totally lacking in so many ways. We recently had faquitas, tacos, and enchiladas and all 5 of us were totally disappointed. Some dishes were cold, others had little meat, or overcooked meat, etc. Service was slow and they forgot to bring us several items. It was also difficult to get the attention of the waitress or any waiter or waitress. We've been coming here for over 22 years and we'd meet friends and neighbors here for bdays and other festivities. No longer. It is just too disappointing and sad now. Great place for some great tex mex! The ambience of the restaurant is quirky with the bottle caps hanging from the ceilings and random sculptures scattered around. This time, we got our food to go. One of my favorites is the Chuychanga, which is essentially just a fried tortilla filled with chicken and other things wrapped up like a burrito. You get to choose your sauce and I like to go with the chimichurri. When ordering to go, they put the sauce on the side so it doesn't get soggy by the time you're home! Another thing about chuys is their jalapeño ranch. I feel like that can go with just about anything, but I enjoy dipping their fresh chips into it and it's so so good. The portions here are amazing like soooooo much foooood it's crazy. Literally I feel like I could split my meal in half with my friends. Overall the food was good. We had leftovers, but only because we had too many chips. I was glad to see that the staff were still wearing masks and the tables were spread out or marked off to ensure social distancing. The service friendly, but we felt rushed. I ordered the Queso because we saw all the great reviews, but I personally thought it was too salty. It had a bit of seasoned ground beef, guacamole and pico de gallo. We also ordered the Roasted Chicken Burrito. All I have to stay is that it is huge!!! A flour tortilla is stuffed with refried beans, cheese, roasted chicken with Deluxe Tomatillo sauce. I wish I would have asked if they can put the sauce on the side because the burrito was soaked and a bit soggy by the time it got to the table. I wish it had more flavor and more chichen than beans. This dish was also served with Mexican rice and side of house salad. The Deluxe Chicken Enchiladas we really good. The Deluxe Tomatillo Sauce was not as overpowering as the burrito. Found this on Yelp on our visit to Austin, right near our hotel. It was my boyfriend and I last night before heading home, and wanted some "Tex-Mex". This fit that bill! I little crowded when we got there, so we sat in the bar, and had some chips and salsa and drink. Their frozen lemonade with vodka is really good, especially on a hot day. Beware of "brain freeze". LOL When we got seated we knew what we wanted. I tried the Elvis breaded chicken. It is a HUGE boneless chicken breast breaded with potato chips! It was soo good. My boyfriend got two enchiladas with two different kids of sauces, think one Hatch green chile, and one with tomatillo sauce. Both came with rice and beans! Service was great, and food was great! We order takeout from Chuy's 183 fairly regularly - less so now since it seems like every other order includes a MAJOR mistake. I'm vegetarian, so today's mistake is HUGE. Why would their cooks put FAJITA BEEF on a Bean and Cheese Burrito?! Which I unfortunately didn't realize until I'd chewed it! I got my introduction to Chuy's in North Carolina when I visited the location outside of Camp Lejeune. I always thought their brand of Tex-Mex food was pretty darn good, definitely a cut above what some of the other Mexican chain restaurants put out. Unfortunately, that location was shuttered after sustaining a lot of damage from a hurricane. What I didn't know was Austin is the home of Chuy's so I was able to get reacquainted once I moved here. This particular location is a little hidden by the landscaping around the building but it's worth the effort to find it. The menu hits all the right notes and while it has a little of "everything" it's not the typical laundry list you get in other Tex-Mex places. One of the best features I think is the chips and salsa you get upon sitting down, especially if you get the creamy jalapeño. It's just one of those little details that sets Chuy's apart from the competition. Our salsa was delicious with a fresh taste and well seasoned. Guacamole was competently made but lacking some bite that could have been helped with a little lime juice. For our main courses we had the Elvis Presley Memorial combo and the fajitas. As the dishes came out of the kitchen, I was reminded that you'll never walk away hungry from Chuy's with the generous portions delivered. The enchiladas in the Elvis combo were delicious while the fajitas (steak and chicken) were beautifully cooked and served on a sizzling hot cast iron skillet. There were plenty of vegetables as well as side condiments (guac, pico de gallo, shredded cheese, sour cream) and a healthy helping of beans and rice. Another thing that sets Chuy's apart is their frequent incorporation of green chiles throughout the menu. They are a unique flavor that I came to appreciate while living in New Mexico and it's nice to see it here. Our server was very helpful and friendly and provided attentive service throughout our visit. Overall, I very much enjoyed the food and service and I think this is a great place for some decent Tex-Mex. Recommended. read more

Went to Chuy's the other night not expecting too much and yeah, it was pretty spot on to what I had in mind. Americanized Mexican food at a decent price. I ordered a sampler of sorts where I got enchiladas, flautas, queso, chips, beans, rice, and guac. It was just a lot thrown into one dish with mountains of sauce all over it. The margarita (regular lime flavor) was average at best. Service was pretty good but that's about it. The restaurant was packed and rather dirty if we're being honest. Table and booth seats weren't wiped down and had food all over them. If you're gonna wait a half hour to eat somewhere it most definitely isn't worth it to wait for Chuy's. Chuy's is THE place to try Tex-Méx food in Austin. My 10 year old loved the food here and we always order their burritos and enchiladas. Their boom boom sauce is out of this world. I've been told by dozens of locals to try Chuy's, and let me tell you this restaurant did NOT disappoint. Chuy's is the epitome of Austin; great food, friendly staff, and a truly weird atmosphere (in the best possible way). The restaurant itself is so unique. The walls are painted bright, hub caps hang from the ceilings, and one-of-a-kind sculptures hang all around. There is indoor and outdoor seating with plenty of string lights to see at night. This restaurant just screams Austin! The food itself was good. I wouldn't say it was the best Mexican food I've had in Austin, but it's not the worst. The margaritas on the other hand- that's a different story. Probably the BEST marg I've ever had... and I've had many margaritas in my day lol. This would be the perfect happy hour spot. Look, we all know this isn't going to be the most authentic Mexican food. But I'm sure you were ok with that when you looked this place up. Is it tasty? Yes. Is it filling? Yes. For years I have been hearing about this place, everyone says its an Austin staple and we needed to go at least once. Well we went and this place is truly an awful example of what Tex-Mex food is supposed to be . The drinks were pretty bad even though we paid for top shelf. I ordered a Chimichanga which was overflowing in raw onions, nowhere in the meal description did it say onions were inside. This particularly upset me as I would have said no onions. The rice was cold, the refried beans tasted fresh out of a can. There are so many other places in Austin where the food costs about the same price but is actually edible. Yesterday was my company's Holiday party. Last week we ordered fajitas for 40, chips and salsa, creamy jalapeño sauce, cheese quesadillas and tres leches. Chuy's said our order would be ready at 6:30 at the Duval store. I was there at 6:30. The store was packed. The parking lot had lots of people coming and going. Ben, the very friendly guy at the pick up counter told me my order would be a while. I appreciated his honesty and went to my car to wait. Ben was aware that I was in spot #26. I sat in spot #26 for a while. Finally Shelby, from the kitchen, I think, came out to apologize for my wait. Shelby returned with a Tres Leches just for me, again, apologizing for my wait. Our party began at 7:00. So now that it was 7:45 I appreciated the Tres Leches. At 8:00 Ben comes to my car with my order. As he is putting everything into my car and verifying my order we noticed there is a leak in the box he has placed in my car. He lifts the box up and says 5 minutes to repack all your food in a new box. In 5 mins Ben returns to my car with a new box and the food, no longer leaking. I then asked are there any utensils? He says 2 more minutes. By 8:10 I left Chuy's with my food. I have no complaints about Ben and Shelby - they both bent over backwards to do their very best and were more than courteous. However Chuy's , shame on you for promising the food would be ready at 6:30. I still love the chips here, especially with the creamy jalapeno (ask for it!). If the wait for a table is long, try going to the bar area - they serve all appetizers, salads, and drinks, plus tacos and enchiladas a la carte. The portion sizes of the tacos and enchiladas are plenty on their own (depending of course on what you want), and they're reasonably priced. The service can be a little slow out there, but it's worthwhile if the restaurant is busy. On my last visit I ordered chile con queso and a vegetarian enchilada a la carte. I'd say skip the queso (a little pricey given that chips are complimentary, and it's definitely not my favorite queso in town), but the enchilada was good and very well priced. It's a little crazy that a bottle of Shiner Bock is more expensive ($4.75) than any of the a la carte items, but what can you do. Tip: if you bring a framed photo of your dog, you get a free appetizer! The photos line the room with the bar and are fun to see. read more

We usually have a great time at chuys. However, we just had a less stellar experience with some sub par service. The server did not seem to have respect for our food. For example, the server awkwardly carried a martini shaker, martini glass and a thing of tortillas clumped against her chest. I didnt feel this was sanitary and could tell she was spilling the drink on the way over. She knew it spilled as well and she laughed it off. But I was a little upset as I paid for a full beverage too. Service felt generally slow and the server didnt seem to feel any need to hustle to make missing food or cold food or untimely beverages right. We have ordered delivery (through Uber Eats) multiple times from this location and the items delivered are never correct. 3 separate orders - fajitas have been ordered and tortillas are not included. Ruins the order if you don't have tortillas to go with the fajitas. Order sides (Queso, Jalapeño sauce or salsa) and the sizes ordered are not delivered correctly. It is never a different size in our favor - we receive 4oz (the smallest) and we have ordered and paid for larger sizes. Frustrated I keep trying to see if they can get it right but it's to the point that I'm now providing a review and feedback for the restaurant. Went here after craving their queso for the longest time. Was not disappointed. Their customer service is superb. A person would come by almoat every 45 seconds or so to check on whether tables were bussed, people needed attention or water needed refilling. Everything came out hot and delicious.
