I guess Chuy's is only good every third time you decide to visit. I wish I hadn't found that certificate stuffed in the back of the glove compartment, somehow lost for a couple of months just waiting to be found. I feel like Karma wanted us to have that one hopeful thought about the Chuy's on Beltline crushed out of our heads so we wouldn't want to even think about going there ever again. Chuy's first mistake - making me wait exactly 8 mins (yes I timed it) before someone decided to acknowledge our existence. I must have missed the sign outside warning me that tonight all the good servers and cooks have gone home and have been replaced by the "other crew" that doesn't really want to be there and will do the bare minimum to not get fired. As our server walked away we finally dug into our basket of chips. I felt a little confused and slightly crazy as I bit into the first chip, I couldn't remember if Chuy's chips were supposed to come out warm or cold so I continued eating and pretended to enjoy the chips not knowing which temperature I was supposed to expect since all mexican restaurants do it differently. I got the answer to my previous question as they refilled our chips and the second batch was warm. The evening progressed as we tried to over look the first few signs that we should just walk away but we waited too long, our fajitas were served in a beautiful presentation that should have just been presented and then removed because I would have rather been told the food was for someone else or that a mistake had been made or the roof is about to collapse, some excuse to keep me from taking a bite, something that would have kept me from passing that line that eventually brought me to the point where I felt I really needed to write this review to hopefully warn others to not waste their time or money going to this location. Unfortunately I wasn't saved and neither was Chuy's. I bit into my first piece of meat from my fajita's plate and all I could taste was salt, lots and lots of salt. I can understand putting some seasoning on the meat, even marinating it in something that has seasoning, salt and a mixture of other ingredients to achieve that authentic flavor but if I wanted to feel like I just swallowed a mouthful of salt I would have gone to the ocean, jumped in and opened my mouth. I actually had to stop eating because I felt so dehydrated from all the salt they put on the meat. I wish I could have chalked it up to an ok visit and gone back, but for some reason since I didn't listen to Karma upon being seated in the cursed section I was going to be reminded in a few more ways why I should stay away from this location. As I mentioned earlier they refilled our chips and I finally had warm chips but to my dismay I guess the dishwasher and the salsa blender are located in the same spot because I swear my salsa tasted like someone mixed dish soap in it, a very distinctive after taste which I'm sure we all have experienced from not rinsing out a glass enough times to get the dish soap out, yep that was the taste I had in my mouth mixed with warm crunchy chips, imagine that for a minute and decide is it worth your time to have the same experience? Now back to the server, I think someone may have forgotten to ask this guy if he actually liked people before hiring him. Is it that hard to come up with a pretend feeling to make your customers feel like you actually care about how their experience? If you hate your job there are plenty of other jobs out there that will appeal to your personality way better like maybe a tax accountant. The chips, the service, the soapy taste in my mouth, you'd think I'd had enough for one night but no, I guess I was ready for more punishment for not listening to Karma. As our meal was being wrapped up we decided to try and finish our meal on a pleasant note with something that was hard to screw up - Tres Leches Cake. I was looking forward to this dessert as it was one of my favorite things about Chuy's but this place was on a role to scare me away and I'll have to say this is the first time in my life that I spit out a piece of cake, the first time I wasn't able to even choke down the remainder of the small morsel of cake I put in my mouth hoping the first bite was just a fluke. If you are going to put Tres Leches on a mexican restaurant menu you should at least know the recipe and if you don't know how to make it call someone's grandma to find out because someone is going to walk into your restaurant and expect this to taste authentic, not taste like a fall apart before you get it to your mouth and be overly moist like it has been sitting there for 3 days cake. I got the 3 day old cake. Yep, they just topped off my night and will never see me again. Please take a moment to think twice about going to this Chuy's as they are making the other Chuy's look bad. read more
