    Short Rib Relleno

Not sure what the hype is about because I was expecting authentic Mexican food and this was more subtle Tex-Mex. The food was average although I will say we did receive great service. Food: We ordered queso, guacamole, arrachera, and short rib relleno. Queso and guacamole were good, better than Uncle Julio's for comparison! I was also so excited to see them offer dishes like arrachera and chile relleno. But the Arrachera... oh man I was expecting a nice skirt steak so imagine my surprise when the dish came out as fajitas; there wasn't enough meat or avocado either in proportion to the rice and beans. The short rib relleno... I was expecting the pepper to be stuffed with cheese + short ribs but the short ribs were on the side and not incorporated into the chile. Service: Our server was so attentive! She would constantly come to check on us, refill our drinks, and get anything we need! So props for great service!

Food and service are always so good! We come here for team lunches every now and then and it's the perfect environment for it. The queso and guacamole are delicious. This location was a little tricky as I'm used to a stand alone building and this one is in a shopping center. Just a heads up if you are looking for a building and get confused!

Thank you for helping us to host a beautiful birthday dinner for 20. This June event could not have gone better and the staff, food and drinks were wonderful. The private room set up worked out great and the staff assisted with special set up& decor. The coordination between the event planning office and the restaurant worked fine and communication with the restaurant and event office in advance worked out great even though I was not a local and did everything online and by phone from out of state. The Preston Rd. Meso Maya staff were so nice! Many Thanks!

Service and food were fantastic! Highly recommend the guacamole and queso appetizer, the salmon coco and the pollo Serrano (enchiladas)!

I have to admit upfront that I may not be totally fair on this review. However, it will be totally honest. This was lunch and it was much more expensive than I thought it should be. Usually, I look at the final tab and unless there is something on there that's not supposed to be, I pay. With almost all restaurants these days using computerized point of sale computers, mistakes don't happen unless the prices entered in the program are wrong. After getting home I checked the online menu prices and found they are much lower than what I was charged. In one case $7 more dollars? I feel stupid for not catching this but even more dumb for letting them get away with it. So, I'm calling on them to update the system prices at all of the Dallas area restaurants to prevent overcharging. If You go to Meso Maya, keep the menu on the table to compare to what the bill says. The food is good but....

I read a lot of the good reviews and was very excited to dine here on Sunday night, however, the food did not match my expectations at all. I went with my husband and a friend. We ordered the Smoked Chicken Taquitos (not pictured) and it was dry and left a bitter aftertaste (literally), not sure from what. We were served 5-6 tiny taquitos, and I'm aware it was an appetizer, but I just don't think it was worth $12. For Entrees, I got Brisket Tacos and it felt like I was just having regular beef tacos, which tasted decent, but not brisket. We also ordered Enchilladas Pollo Serrano, and the sauce on top was SOUR! My friend ended up only eating the chicken from inside, along with rice and beans. The third item we ordered was Short Rib Relleno, and it was sour as well!! I'm not sure where the sour came from!? Also I understand short ribs are expensive anywhere, but to charge you $24 and give you TWO pieces of beef and more potatoes is just not fair. We took our business elsewhere for dessert, didn't want to risk it there. We were very disappointed since this place had such good reviews, and we're used to having good TexMex in Dallas. Safe to say we will not be returning.

Good modern Mexican fare, just some service kinks to work out. We were seated and waited about 6-7 minutes before a busser brought us chips and salsa. The chips were great, hard and fresh and crispy but not greasy, and the salsa is really nice. It's fresh and smoky but it's also a little spicy. So both of our mouths were on fire by the time the waiter came to the table about 10 minutes later with water. I ordered the marinated steak tacos, which were very good. I can tell they make their own corn tortillas, and while the meat wasn't the most tender I've ever had in a taco, you could really taste the garlic and fresh cilantro. Instead of a traditional Mexican rice, they serve a white rice with fresh garlic cooked in it on the side with black beans. It was actually really tasty despite looking like it would be a little bland as just white rice. Hubby ordered the enchiladas Del Mar with shrimp and jumbo lump crab meat and a citrusy bright green chili sauce. Also quite tasty and fresh. On the whole, the food was pretty delicious and we liked the modern Mexican atmosphere, but for the slow service throughout the meal and inattention to us as diners, I felt the value really wasn't there for the price that we paid. The entrées are more in the moderate price range.

One of the top Mexican restaurants I recommend people to visit in Dallas! Caveat that I am not an expert on Mexican cuisine but I love this place over most Tex Mex restaurants. Ordered the Chile relleno today - flavorful and delicious. Other friends ordered tacos and enchiladas which they loved. Drinks are also nice and strong

Thanks to the reservation, we were seated right away and immediately greeted by our server, who was honestly amazing from start to finish. She was friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience feel effortless. We kicked things off with drinks. I started with an espresso martini, and it was really, really good--smooth, balanced, and exactly what I was hoping for. For my second drink, I tried the smoked Old Fashioned from their holiday menu. It was good, but I'll be honest, it was extremely strong. Like, really strong. In general, their drinks definitely pack a punch, so that's something to keep in mind when ordering. For my entrée, I ordered the Mediterranean smoked chicken salad, and wow. It was hands down one of the best salads I've ever had in my life. Everything was perfectly balanced, flavorful, and satisfying, and it didn't feel like a "boring" salad at all. It was so good that I already know I'll be coming back specifically for that dish, though I'm also curious to try more of the menu next time. Overall, this place absolutely lived up to the recommendation. Great service, strong drinks, and standout food. I'll definitely be back.

The layout feels open and comfortable, and the overall vibe is upbeat without being overwhelming. That said, service on arrival could use some attention. There was a noticeable gap at the host stand with several guests waiting and no staff in sight, which set a slightly off first impression. Once seated, though, the experience improved. Ally at the bar stood out right away. Friendly, attentive, and welcoming, she helped turn the visit around and made the experience feel more personal. She did come back to check in later, which was appreciated and helped round out the service. On the food and drink side, they carry Manhattan Project Beer Company's Half-Life, which is a big win and pairs exceptionally well with the French dip. The sandwich itself is flavorful and satisfying. The fries were a bit on the softer side, so if you prefer them crispy, I'd definitely recommend asking for them extra crispy when ordering. Overall, Thirsty Lion has a lot going for it. Great atmosphere, solid menu, and standout staff like Ally. With a little more consistency at the front of house, this place easily moves from good to great.

Highlights for food: The pizza and bread were delicious. 4 for flavor and texture. I would've loved to have the tortufo, which I tried to order, but the waiter told me they were out of truffles. I asked if we could just get everything else in it and he said "no"? We ordered the wild mushroom instead and while I didn't taste the thyme or pesto, it was still really good. Arugula salad: I think it's $14 or close, so I expected a decent size. It wasn't, and it had one piece of fennel. One. Disappointing. Flavor was good, lemony and fresh. Service: Ordered a cocktail when we sat down. It didn't come for a while. We asked about it, kind of had to remind the server, and it finally arrived with our appetizer, mussels, but I wouldn't have paired the cocktail with mussels so kinda meh. The mussels, however, were really good. They'd get a 5. So overall the food was good, and I'd be curious to try some other things, but it's all a part of the experience and that overall was so-so.

There is a small side of roasted poblano pepper that is quite spicy but delicious. I "stole" it from the kid and put on my tacos. Perfect. Parking wasn't bad either, there are lots and a garage nearby. However, the food itself fell flat for me. We ordered the crispy chicken happy hour special, which comes with a side salad. The chicken was on the dry side. Whenever I order Kaarage, it usually comes with a dipping sauce, but there was none here and that would've really helped out. The dressing on the side salad was way too acidic, making it hard to eat as well. In addition, we ordered the takoyaki as an appetizer. The takoyaki themselves were pretty solid, but the texture of the mayo was off. I'm not sure if they make their mayo in-house, but i noticed it was curdled. For the ramen, we ordered Jinya Tonkotsu Black and Creamy Veggie Ramen. Pricing is standard for DFW ramen restaurants, although *slightly* higher than some others (by like $1). The base ramen comes with a good variety of toppings! However, the ramen was just okay. The noodles are on the skinnier side, which I prefer thicker, chewier noodles. The pork chashu serving was small, and it tasted kind of old and wasn't that tender nor flavorful. The broth was just alright. I prefer soft-boiled, jammy ramen eggs, but the ajitama here was cooked longer than I would've liked. Ironically, I thought the veggie ramen was *much* better. The broth had better flavor, and they use different noodles than the tonkotsu, which were thicker (and exactly what I like!). Lastly, we had the matcha tiramisu for dessert. On a positive note, the matcha flavor was detectable. However, the tiramisu crème wasn't that fluffy, and there were noticeable amounts of undissolved sugar. Both the curdled mayo and tiramisu crème provide enough data points to suggest that whoever in the kitchen is responsible for blending/mixing needs some more training and attention to detail.

I had booked a reservation on Resy and we were seated immediately in a small, intimate booth. Initially, it was not terribly loud, but as the evening progressed and several large parties were seated nearby; the sound of the music was completely drowned out. I think more noise abatement measures could be taken to absorb some of the obtrusive loudness we were getting. For a starter, we ordered the Calamari. It was fried perfectly and was great, but the Thai Sticky sauce was too sweet and the consistency of the sauce was thin. It needed something to make it more viscous, and a secondary sauce, like a marinara or even an aioli would've been nice to balance out the sweetness of the Thai sauce. For an entree, I ordered the Maple- Ginger Salmon. The salmon was cooked perfectly and itself was delicious, but the sauce was too sweet and rich. The fired rice that accompanied my meal was over-the-top salty. It was almost going into "too much" territory. For desert we split the Passion Fruit Ice Cream Pie. This was actually very good and not overly sweet. It was my favorite item from my meal. Overall Renny's truly employs a lot of care and attention to the food, but some of the items crossed a line into "too much" territory. Be it sweetness or saltiness, the kitchen could exercise a bit of restraint to let the flavors of the food shine.
