It was one of those we have 30 mins to eat and drink before movie night and we stop here for it. The service was great and fast. We sat at the bar which is beautiful and my drink was . Definitely recommend. The tostadas don't recall seeing these on menu but they were amazing - we shared and were super full. You can get a Serrano kick bc I think it had some in there so be careful it was hot . But I only had one bite w it but so did my husband. But still amazing. Great food all around! Softly lit space, good music and plenty of tables. We were greeted right away and received chips and salsa. We ordered the ribeye chicharron to start as an appetizer. I'd say the flavor was more muted on the meat but the salsa they prepared for us added a nice balance. All the portions on the food were huge. I ordered the arrachera and it was really delicious. It was tender and the steak was cooked to how I wanted it done. The chaluta tomahawk was good as well, though you can really taste the charred bite of the meat, if you're not into that. The corn ice cream on the dessert was amazing, it worked very well with the sweetness of the chocolate cake. Will definitely be back! read more

I used to frequent the Meso Maya in Addison, and quite liked it for many years. Sadly it shut down. I was running some errands off Preston & Forest when I found this alternative location. We were seated quickly and the service was both prompt and friendly. That's where things sort of tumbled into the realm of "meh". The food came out too quickly, as if it was waiting somewhere already made, ready for distribution, and the flavors certainly matched. I wouldn't say that it was bad, but lacked the freshness and thoughtful seasonings I had come to expect. Even the tamal which is one of their signature items was just flat. Overall it served to tarnish my otherwise glorious memories of the Addison branch. The building itself is even somewhat spartan, with the feel of a hastily reconfigured Chiropractor's office. While I'm a fan of the brand and idea, this location doesn't live up to my expectation. read more

Was here two days ago with family--a group of six. I had the tomahawk pork chop with green beans and corn. All was excellent! Highly recommended. Others at the table had salmon, enchiladas, salads, etc. Everyone raved about their entrees. Service was stellar--our glasses always being refilled before they hit the bottom. Not sure what the hype is about because I was expecting authentic Mexican food and this was more subtle Tex-Mex. The food was average although I will say we did receive great service. Food: We ordered queso, guacamole, arrachera, and short rib relleno. Queso and guacamole were good, better than Uncle Julio's for comparison! I was also so excited to see them offer dishes like arrachera and chile relleno. But the Arrachera... oh man I was expecting a nice skirt steak so imagine my surprise when the dish came out as fajitas; there wasn't enough meat or avocado either in proportion to the rice and beans. The short rib relleno... I was expecting the pepper to be stuffed with cheese + short ribs but the short ribs were on the side and not incorporated into the chile. Hosted a birthday party in their separate area. 14 people. Simply perfect!! Andres (assistant manager) was easy to work with in planning. We visited 4 other places and this place and Andres were the easiest to work with. They had no limitations, minimums, nor restrictions. In fact, they did everything with professionalism and courtesy- including last minute changes. Everyone loved the food. Biggest hits were the apps of queso, corn tamal, and especially the mixed ceviche. All ordered their own main meals and everyone really liked the food. And this was a very diverse group some who had not had Mexican food like this. Our server was Alejandro and he was fantastic! He paid full attention to our requests and kept the food and drinks moving at the perfect pace. He was friendly, competent, and professional. All in all, this was perfection on every level. Over the last 10+ years Meso Maya has consistently been one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in Dallas. - Atmosphere: The Preston Forest location is in an unassuming strip mall with plenty of parking. They have a small outdoor seating area and indoors is a very open, family-friendly space. They often decorate for different holidays, giving the inside a fun vibe for special occasions. - Service: The service at Meso Maya is efficient and friendly. I often order to-go from this location and the food is usually ready early. It's easy to pick up quickly inside the restaurant or curbside. - Food/Drink: Meso Maya serves some of my favorite salsa of all time. My go-to dish is the carne asada. The sweet corn tamal it comes with makes the dish extra special. Other favorites are the pozole verde, pollo tacos, enchiladas pollo serrano, enchildas brisket, and the charred brussels sprouts. Drink-wise they have a great margarita selection, with the avocado as a special favorite. - Value: Meso Maya provides reasonable portion sizes at good prices. While it's a little more toned down than its other sister locations, this northern Dallas location of Meso Maya is still as stellar as the rest. It is a running, well-oiled machine of a quality establishment with all the right components (service, ambiance, food, etc.) that make it an easy go-to anytime I'm in the area. There is ample space for groups to stretch out with some outdoor options as well. The bathrooms and the interior are super clean, which is always appreciated. There are occasional waits on the weekend, but I've been fortunate to never have to wait long to be seated. Brunch is an option here, but I've always preferred their dinner given their intimate atmosphere. Food wise, the queso blanco with chorizo is a must. The blend of cheeses with the crumble of the chorizo is dynamite. I also feel their arrachera steak platter is nearly perfect each time, but the carne asada is also excellent. I've enjoyed their mole and feel their chile relleno is also quite good. Tacos and enchiladas are good lunch options, but they should be considered third tier compared to the rest. The cocktails are also potent and are on point presentation wise. Margaritas are fun, especially the serrano and avocado. The latter is a nice surprise, with a little tartness from the pineapple. I would rank it above all of their cocktails and make it a hard recommendation for all. Prices will vary, but they're going to end up on the higher side. Meso Maya has felt corporate for some time now, so folks with expectations for authenticity will need to curb that a bit. Aside from the food, they tend to outdo themselves on the service. The hospitality is real and I have always had a good experience here with a staff that is constantly checking up on folks, brings food out in a timely manner, and does it all with a smile. read more

Great food and great service! I enjoyed the classic and clean Mexican ambiance. The host and hostess were both welcoming and friendly. Their chips and salsa are some of the best in Dallas in my opinion. The salsa has a slight kick and lots of flavor. Service by Alma was exceptional at lunch for the six of us. She never let our tea or water go dry, let us set a nice pace, and was very responsive though out the meal. I tried the pollo serrano enchiladas and they were outstanding! Don't let the serrano in the name fool you, as they are not very spicy at all. The serrano cream sauce over the two chicken enchiladas is just delicious. The chicken in the enchilada was flavorful, tender, and juicy. It was nice chunks of chicken vs. shredded. I would highly recommend these and I look forward to returning. read more

I have to admit upfront that I may not be totally fair on this review. However, it will be totally honest. This was lunch and it was much more expensive than I thought it should be. Usually, I look at the final tab and unless there is something on there that's not supposed to be, I pay. With almost all restaurants these days using computerized point of sale computers, mistakes don't happen unless the prices entered in the program are wrong. After getting home I checked the online menu prices and found they are much lower than what I was charged. In one case $7 more dollars? I feel stupid for not catching this but even more dumb for letting them get away with it. So, I'm calling on them to update the system prices at all of the Dallas area restaurants to prevent overcharging. If You go to Meso Maya, keep the menu on the table to compare to what the bill says. I read a lot of the good reviews and was very excited to dine here on Sunday night, however, the food did not match my expectations at all. I went with my husband and a friend. We ordered the Smoked Chicken Taquitos (not pictured) and it was dry and left a bitter aftertaste (literally), not sure from what. We were served 5-6 tiny taquitos, and I'm aware it was an appetizer, but I just don't think it was worth $12. For Entrees, I got Brisket Tacos and it felt like I was just having regular beef tacos, which tasted decent, but not brisket. We also ordered Enchilladas Pollo Serrano, and the sauce on top was SOUR! My friend ended up only eating the chicken from inside, along with rice and beans. The third item we ordered was Short Rib Relleno, and it was sour as well!! I'm not sure where the sour came from!? Also I understand short ribs are expensive anywhere, but to charge you $24 and give you TWO pieces of beef and more potatoes is just not fair. We took our business elsewhere for dessert, didn't want to risk it there. We were very disappointed since this place had such good reviews, and we're used to having good TexMex in Dallas. Good modern Mexican fare, just some service kinks to work out. We were seated and waited about 6-7 minutes before a busser brought us chips and salsa. The chips were great, hard and fresh and crispy but not greasy, and the salsa is really nice. It's fresh and smoky but it's also a little spicy. So both of our mouths were on fire by the time the waiter came to the table about 10 minutes later with water. I ordered the marinated steak tacos, which were very good. I can tell they make their own corn tortillas, and while the meat wasn't the most tender I've ever had in a taco, you could really taste the garlic and fresh cilantro. Instead of a traditional Mexican rice, they serve a white rice with fresh garlic cooked in it on the side with black beans. It was actually really tasty despite looking like it would be a little bland as just white rice. Hubby ordered the enchiladas Del Mar with shrimp and jumbo lump crab meat and a citrusy bright green chili sauce. Also quite tasty and fresh. On the whole, the food was pretty delicious and we liked the modern Mexican atmosphere, but for the slow service throughout the meal and inattention to us as diners, I felt the value really wasn't there for the price that we paid. I didn't care for the sauce that was over the enchiladas, the brisket that was inside of the Enchiladas was very good, the black beans had no flavor and everything could have used a pinch of salt. On our last night in Dallas, we decided to check out meso maya for dinner. We were really impressed by their menu and the quality of their dishes. To start we sampled their guacamole, queso poblano, and house salsa. We enjoyed their drinks as well and the Oaxaca stood out as a favorite. The best part of the meal though was our entrees and I went with the Arrachera, which was essentially a high end version of fajitas. This was cooked perfectly and hit the spot. For dessert we sampled a little bit of everything, but their flan de queso and pastel de chocolate were awesome. First dinner in Dallas and had to have Mexican food! We went to another location but it was an hour wait so drove another 10 minutes to no wait here. Love the set up and service was very friendly. Had to order their famous avocado margarita, but to be honest, I could not taste the avocado at all. Chips and salsa were addicting, so good. I ordered their famous salmon dish, and first of all, I absolutely HATE cilantro. No where on the menu did it say it had cilantro so guess who was picking it off her dish? It was very difficult because of the sauce, although I didn't care for it as it was overly salty. I've got to say our visit to this Dallas location will not be a repeat event. We went to celebrate my son's 22nd birthday. There was a mariachi band playing in the next room for at least 30 minutes straight. While very distracting, that wasn't the real issue. Our service was great, the food was the problem. The only food that was good on the table, besides the guacamole, was my salmon dish. The brisket enchiladas, brisket tacos, shrimp tacos, and chicken enchiladas were a hard pass for everyone at the table. The avocado margaritas and frozen mango drinks were not bad. Let me start by saying that Meso Maya is one of our favorite restaurants in Dallas and we have been at least two dozen times, including half a dozen times to this location. This most recent experience, however, was not good. I have ordered the Del Mar enchiladas several times at the downtown location and it is one of my favorites ($17). It is supposed to be two enchiladas with delicate seafood inside, topped with a tomatillo cream sauce. It is supposed to be light and very flavorful. This visit yielded something completely different. What I got was two tortillas folded in half, smothered (swimming) in tomatillo sauce that was so salty it was on the edge of inedible. It was nothing short of horrible. I should have sent it back but I was so hungry that I did not want to wait longer. The shrimp inside were so overcooked it was like eating little stones. The whole thing was a disaster. There was not one thing that was good about it. We also tried the queso fundido and it was ok but also super salty and greasy. Would not get that again. I can't say that service was attentive, but it was ok because we were not in a big hurry. I don't know if they had an off night or have new cooks who are inexperienced, but I am not in a hurry to return to this location. read more

Pozole meat is so old is completely dried up, the pieces are so small they look like pieces of dog food. The chicken in the pudin azteca is the same! it's old and dried up!!! Very good (Mayan/Mexican?) food! The chips are crispy and the salsa is super Smokey, not spicey. We started with the ceviche, it was very fresh and VERY limey with bits of shrimp and a white fish with some tomatoes, lettuce, and avocado chunks. I usually order the cochinita pibil, which is *gasp* amazing. However, this time I decided to branch out and ordered the Herradura salmon which was not a mistake. The salmon was cooked very well with a sweet spicey sauce over it, all on top of crispy Brussels sprouts and a flavorful cream sauce. I cleaned my plate in like 5 seconds, it was very good. I also ordered the cucumber margarita which was not my fav but very strong! That's a plus lol. Love this place, will always come back for the really great food and service. read more
