I am reaching out because I'd like management to understand what happened before I post this publicly. My goal isn't to get anyone in trouble--I simply want someone to understand why a group of paying customers, including children, left feeling unwelcome during one of the biggest sporting events of the year. I wanted to give you the opportunity to hear our experience and respond first. My family and friends had a very disappointing experience at the Dallas Thirsty Lion during the USA soccer game yesterday. We had a reservation for eight people, and a couple of additional friends joined us. The restaurant was not full, there were empty seats available throughout the dining room, and several of the tables around us were more than willing to let us use their unused chairs. We also noticed that multiple other groups had added extra chairs around their tables, yet they didn't appear to receive the same response from their servers that we received from ours. We've attended countless major sporting events at restaurants and sports bars over the years, and we've never had an issue with people standing around a table or using a couple of unused chairs to accommodate a larger group. It's simply part of the atmosphere during major games. This was also one of the very few opportunities my wife and I get to enjoy a night out together. I'm a firefighter, she's a nurse, and because our schedules rarely align, evenings like this are few and far between. We also had the chance to spend time with family and friends we rarely get to see, which made the evening even more special to us. We had no choice but to bring our children, and we were looking forward to spending quality time together while cheering on Team USA. Instead, we left feeling like our family--and especially our kids--were an inconvenience rather than welcomed guests. What made the experience even more frustrating was that our waitress made us feel like our group--and especially our children--weren't welcome. We did everything we could to make the situation work ourselves. Our children shared a chair, and at times I even had my child sitting on my lap. I wasn't even trying to take a seat for myself. I wanted to stand for the game because we were at a high-top table, and my standing height was no higher than the eye level of the guests who were seated. I wasn't blocking anyone's view or creating a disturbance, yet I was repeatedly made to feel like I needed to sit down. We came to Thirsty Lion hoping to enjoy good food, drinks, and the USA match. Since the game itself wasn't going our way, we were hoping the atmosphere at the restaurant would still make for a great evening. Unfortunately, it had the opposite effect. Throughout the night, our waitress made us feel like we were inconveniencing her instead of welcoming us as paying customers. Rather than looking for a solution or involving a manager, she seemed perfectly comfortable with one of our friends leaving altogether just so the seating situation could be resolved. Even when it came time to pay, the attitude never changed. Our group asked to split the checks, which is a very common request for a large party at a sports bar. She appeared visibly frustrated, as though the request itself was an inconvenience. Given that every table had been reserved for one of the biggest sporting events of the year, I expected a higher level of hospitality and preparedness for the normal challenges that come with serving larger groups. To make matters worse, the restaurant's entire draft beer system was down during one of the biggest sporting events of the year. I completely understand that equipment issues happen, but when guests are already dealing with an inconvenience like that, customer service matters even more. A simple acknowledgment of the inconvenience or an effort to make the experience better would have gone a long way. Instead, it felt like no effort was made. By the end of the night, as the bar was preparing to close, we were also made to feel like we were no longer welcome to stay, even though there was still plenty of time left in the game. I understand restaurants have policies, and if there was a legitimate safety or occupancy concern, I would have appreciated a clear explanation. What disappointed me was the complete lack of effort to find a reasonable solution or involve a manager. Instead, our entire group left feeling unwelcome, uncomfortable, and disappointed. This experience honestly ruined what should have been a fun night with family and friends, and at this point I have no interest in returning. We came expecting a fun, family-friendly atmosphere where we could cheer on Team USA together. Instead, we left feeling like our business--and even our children--were more of an inconvenience than valued guests. We were a large group that intended to spend money, enjoy the game, and leave a generous tip. Instead of feeling appreciated, we felt like we were simply being tolerated. read more

Great vibe, but very noisy when crowded. The server was super friendly but the tech they were using to place our food and drink orders kept having issues. The calamari was a great choice for an appetizer. The bbq white cheddar burger was cooked to my exact liking full of flavor and nice portion sizes. The few negative things I would have to say is i had to ask for a box multiple times. Where i was seated I could see the servers come and go and they were all on their phones. Five star because someone was savvy enough to hire our waitress, Kayla. Blew in on a rainy April day. In a mood for Scotch Eggs but they are not on the April menu. Kayla walked us through the seasonal menu and gave terrific advice. She knew all the options and recommendations were spot on. Had the Hot Honey Salmon which was very good. Wife had the Pear and Prosciutto shortbread; also delish. Southern Peach Crumble desert did not disappoint. Neither did Kayla. Food on point. Good Old Fashioned. Thirsty Lion delivers a clean, spacious gastropub atmosphere that makes it a great spot to relax, grab a drink, and enjoy a solid meal. The layout feels open and comfortable, and the overall vibe is upbeat without being overwhelming. That said, service on arrival could use some attention. There was a noticeable gap at the host stand with several guests waiting and no staff in sight, which set a slightly off first impression. Once seated, though, the experience improved. Ally at the bar stood out right away. Friendly, attentive, and welcoming, she helped turn the visit around and made the experience feel more personal. She did come back to check in later, which was appreciated and helped round out the service. On the food and drink side, they carry Manhattan Project Beer Company's Half-Life, which is a big win and pairs exceptionally well with the French dip. The sandwich itself is flavorful and satisfying. The fries were a bit on the softer side, so if you prefer them crispy, I'd definitely recommend asking for them extra crispy when ordering. Overall, Thirsty Lion has a lot going for it. Great atmosphere, solid menu, and standout staff like Ally. Confronted with the weekly question: where do we have dinner on Saturday, we chose the Thirsty Lion. It had been on my radar for quite some time so a place with an eclectic menu sounded appealing. The restaurant is clean, modern, and nicely laid out. The men's restroom was clean. The table spacing is good. We had a booth and it was comfortable. We did not feel the people behind us moving around. The noise level was acceptable for a conversation with the person across the table. The wife and I started by sharing a soft pretzel and it was excellent! It came out hot. There are three sauces: mustard, cheese, and a jalapeno jam that is spicy and sweet. The jalapeno was my favorite but all three were good. Honestly, I was full after the pretzel so I think it could be meal by itself, maybe with a small side salad or something. But the pretzel is filling! The drink menu is extensive with numerous beers on tap plus cans and bottles. The wife tried Guiness on tap for the first time and loved how smooth it is. Few things in life are better than Guiness on tap. I had an IPA and enjoyed it. The kid had a bottle of mineral water, so there was something for everyone. There is a full bar and they make cocktails but we did not try any. From the kids' menu, the kid had hamburger sliders. She likes extra pickles and the kitchen complied. There are two sliders and she ate one, which is pretty good for her. The fries were ok but could be crispier. The wife ordered the Ramen and really liked it a lot. She would get it again. It was spicy with fresh jalapeños, which appear to be a Texas addition. We've been to Japan so she knew it was not 100% authentic but it was a very good rendition. No complaints. I had the spicy chicken sliders. The chicken was very crispy and there was some kick. The buns held up. However, the slider was a bit on the dry side. Our server Nini was professional and friendly. She double checked that our order was correct before placing the order, then checked on us as we ate. Overall, a very pleasant meal and I think we will be back to explore more of the menu. read more

My bestie recommended this restaurant, so we decided to check it out with a party of three around 7 p.m. We did make a reservation, which turned out to be a great idea because it was fairly busy when we arrived and most of the tables were already full. Thanks to the reservation, we were seated right away and immediately greeted by our server, who was honestly amazing from start to finish. She was friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience feel effortless. We kicked things off with drinks. I started with an espresso martini, and it was really, really good--smooth, balanced, and exactly what I was hoping for. For my second drink, I tried the smoked Old Fashioned from their holiday menu. It was good, but I'll be honest, it was extremely strong. Like, really strong. In general, their drinks definitely pack a punch, so that's something to keep in mind when ordering. For my entrée, I ordered the Mediterranean smoked chicken salad, and wow. It was hands down one of the best salads I've ever had in my life. Everything was perfectly balanced, flavorful, and satisfying, and it didn't feel like a "boring" salad at all. This was by far one of my favorite meals!!! The flavors in the Tuscan chicken danced in mouth! The sauce was so creamy and the chicken was moist with a perfect crust. The seasonal vegetables were to die for! Yellow sauce, asparagus and red bell pepper. The garlic noodles added the perfect complement to the chicken. It was so good I could not it my fork down. Food in the past has been fine. Their chicken tenders are surprisingly very good. At least for the maybe 8 times I've been, the drinks have almost always been very weak. Having said that part, the reason I'm writing this review is I now just have to say that I feel the person whose decision it is to have Thirsty Lion, basically a sports bar that serves food, close at 9pm on the first Sunday night football game of the year, when this is a Dallas location and the Cowboys are playing in the game (essentially closing halfway through the game)... I think whoever made this decision needs to be studied. read more

Love this location and easy parking! Dorian was a wonderful server. We started with the fries which were served HOT (my favorite) with Sriracha dip and ranch. Both my friend and I got the poke stack, fresh tuna with avocado on top of rice. I mix it together and dip it with the fried wonton chips that come on the side. SO GOOD and filling. This is our go to when we want to grab dinner after work. It's convenient that it's right next door to Trader Joe's so I can go there after to grab a few things. Came in tonight around 9:40p ish walked up to the bar, and was totally ignored by Johnny. Me and my friend stood at the bar for about 3-5 min. And he never acknowledged us. We waved down a server and she asked if we needed help because she thought we were being helped at the bar, which unfortunately we weren't. After we walked off Johnny the bartender kindly cleared his bar of the dishes that were at the end of the bar where we were standing, and he continued his conversation with the rest of the bar. After a fun day shopping in Dallas my sis in law and I were looking for a cute dinner spot with gluten free options. We found this place and they had a separate gluten free menu. We were seated quickly as we had grabbed a reservation online. We were quickly greeted and ordered cocktails. The cranberry Aperol spritz was so delicious! Our food also came out promptly and it was SO GOOD! The gluten-free option she ordered was the Baja fish tacos with fresh slaw and I got the Tuscan chicken with cavatappi pasta and baby veggies. It was so tasty that I ate the entire thing haha! The chicken cutlets were tender and crispy and had a delicious caper sauce. The pasta was cooked perfectly, and I usually don't even bother with the vegetables, but they were buttery and delicious. This place was definitely a 10/10 for me! This is an excellent place to have a meal in The Colony in Dallas. We ended up sitting outside because they were full inside. OK so...if you just want to go here to get some drinks, I bet this place is amazing. But the food? Not so much. We got 3 dishes total including their "signature" BBQ bacon-wrapped shrimp which took forever because, as we were informed, got burned the first time around. When we finally got it, it was room temperature and the shrimp was terrible. Too salty. Hubby got the jalapeño burger with fries and when I asked him if he was enjoying his food, his response was, "The fries are good". So the burger was below average. I had the bbq pulled pork sandwich and it lacked the flavor I look for in pulled pork. Very bland. Sorry to say, but the food was extremely sub-par. On a brighter note, the service was amazing. Our server was super sweet and did everything right. Also loved the ambiance and atmosphere. Summary: If you're looking for a pub to go have drinks? This would be a great place! This is strictly based on Kimmy at the bar. I ordered a glass of wine, she went and poured half of it into the carafe, then got sidetracked. A few minutes went by and I could see the carafe, now full and ready to go on the other side of the bar. She was making other drinks at this point. I got her attention and just asked for the wine, she made an excuse that she was training someone...went over and got the carafe and brought it to me. All the flavors are relatively mild. The drinks are pretty good, but nothing over the top. For the happy hour price, they are on point.
