My wife and I met a dear friend from North Dallas for a late lunch at Renny's. We had heard so many wonderful things about the restaurant and were eager to try it for ourselves. Just as exciting was the opportunity to spend time with our friend and catch up. Since it was well past the lunch rush, Renny's was pleasantly quiet. We were seated immediately and settled comfortably at our table while waiting for our friend to arrive. Our server, Carlos, greeted us warmly and asked if it was our first time dining at Renny's. We assured him it wasn't. We started with a couple of glasses of their incredible iced tea, a special blend called Apricot Chardonnay. It's delightful. In fact, the restaurant sells it in the bag, and we always take one home with us. Our friend arrived just in time to look over the menu. With so many tempting choices, deciding wasn't easy. My wife, a devoted chicken salad sandwich fan, chose the chicken salad sandwich, and our friend quickly followed suit. I ordered the Friday lunch special: fried cod and fries with a side of jalapeño-infused coleslaw. During our visit, Kim, the manager, stopped by to introduce herself. She was incredibly personable and made us feel right at home. As we enjoyed our iced tea and caught up on all the latest news and gossip, Carlos arrived with our entrees. I sampled the chicken salad and can confirm that it is outstanding. The seasoning and mayonnaise are blended perfectly. My fried cod and fries looked picture-perfect. Carlos asked if I wanted malt vinegar, and my response was an enthusiastic "Of course!" Fish and chips just aren't complete without it. What a fantastic lunch we had. The ladies were all smiles and declared themselves happily satisfied. My fish and chips were among the best I've ever had. The cod was fried to perfection: crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. In a few months, we'll be traveling to Alaska, where there's supposedly a restaurant that serves the best fried cod anywhere. I'm willing to bet that Renny's cod would give them some serious competition. It was phenomenal. The fries were excellent, and the jalapeño coleslaw added the perfect touch. Even though we probably shouldn't have, we couldn't resist ordering dessert. I chose the Crème Brûlée, while the ladies shared an apple tart. The Crème Brûlée was incredible, especially paired with a cup of black coffee. They kindly gave me a taste of the apple tart, and all I can say is wow. The apple slices were cut paper-thin, likely with mandoline, and the puff pastry was baked to perfection. All in all, it was a stellar visit to Renny's. If it weren't so far from home, we would undoubtedly become weekly regulars. We dined here on a Saturday evening and it was a good meal, but there are a few things holding the experience back from a five-star rating. I had booked a reservation on Resy and we were seated immediately in a small, intimate booth. Initially, it was not terribly loud, but as the evening progressed and several large parties were seated nearby; the sound of the music was completely drowned out. I think more noise abatement measures could be taken to absorb some of the obtrusive loudness we were getting. For a starter, we ordered the Calamari. It was fried perfectly and was great, but the Thai Sticky sauce was too sweet and the consistency of the sauce was thin. It needed something to make it more viscous, and a secondary sauce, like a marinara or even an aioli would've been nice to balance out the sweetness of the Thai sauce. For an entree, I ordered the Maple- Ginger Salmon. The salmon was cooked perfectly and itself was delicious, but the sauce was too sweet and rich. The fired rice that accompanied my meal was over-the-top salty. It was almost going into "too much" territory. For desert we split the Passion Fruit Ice Cream Pie. This was actually very good and not overly sweet. It was my favorite item from my meal. Overall Renny's truly employs a lot of care and attention to the food, but some of the items crossed a line into "too much" territory. Be it sweetness or saltiness, the kitchen could exercise a bit of restraint to let the flavors of the food shine. read more

We go to Renny's for the nostalgia of Maguire's, a wonderful dinner all around. The ahi tuna napoleon was our appetizer, fresh fish with a really light wonton crisp. The mangos add a nice sweetness & really makes the dish. We went there for the meatloaf, Maguire's meatloaf never disappoints. It's the same delicious dish from 20+ years ago that brings happiness to the heart. Crispy onions, with cheddar mashed potatoes... love, love, love. The maple ginger salmon was cooked perfectly, & you can't go wrong with shrimp and crab the fried rice to accompany it. Lychee Lovebomb with the ube foam, no regrets. The staff greeted us upon arrival & we were seated with a few minutes, each person was friendly & courteous. Came for brunch and it did not disappoint! The sticky bun skillet was delicious! Surprisingly not to sweet, and enough to share between 3-4 people. The star of the show was the quiche. The thick crispy cheese layer took this to a whole new level. It melts in your mouth and the cheese on top is truly to die for. The service was good, we sat in the bar area and although extremely busy, the waiter had a great spirit and was very helpful! 4 for lunch on a Tuesday. Thought the ambiance was cold and old. Acoustics were lacking as very loud. Service was one of the few positives and bumps this from a 2 to a 3 rating IMO. No regular ice tea, only flavored. Disappointed in the Hot Lopez (spicy/sweet fried chicken sandwich). It was a little spicy but way too sweet. We discovered Rennys a few months ago, and it's a restaurant I look forward to eating at when I want a greet Salmon. In the menu is a salad called Maguire's, and it's definitely one worth adding to your meal. I don't know what's in the dressing, but it's delicious, and I'm addicted. The service has always been consistent. Nice, knowledgeable, and attentive staff who know how to treat their customer's. Now, let's talk about the atmosphere of this place. Took a friend to her B day lunch treat. Neither of us have been here before, excited we found. Great service from Bonnie. Nice menu to cover lots of different food items. We both got the chicken pita one with soup other with salad. Tortilla soup was prefect for a cold day. My wife and I went to this bustling little place for Valentine's dinner based on a friend's recommendation. Staff was friendly and attentive without being disruptive. We both had a nice cocktail, mine being a smoked Manhatten which was well balanced and delicious. We had the mussels as an appetizer, which came in a creamy garlic white wine broth and a side of toasted baguettes. The broth was fragrant and well seasoned and the mussels cooked perfectly. As a main course I had the pork ribeye with a side of creamed corn and spinach. The pork was the perfect temperature and very juicy. It was a littlenon the salty side, which I sont mind, but forgot hers it may be too much. The spinach was slightly wilted but still had some bite and seasoned with garlic. Delicious. The creamed corn was good as well. My wife liked her trout armandine and finished with an excellent, gooey lava cake. It was a very enjoyable dinner. read more

We have now been to Renny's several times. It is our go to for special occasions. The ambiance of the place lends it self to special occasions. Consequently because we now frequent the place, we have developed a few favorites! Hands down, the Maple Glazed Salmon is some of the best you will ever have. Another insider tip...always start your meal with the Maguire's Salad, it's a great meal starter full of roasted pecans, blue cheese, Granny Smith apples, and more! It's also big enough to share! My friend and I were looking for a Brunch spot on Yelp and ran across Renny's. I feel like they are a hidden gem among the other businesses because they were not real busy. They share a parking lot with other businesses so it may be a little challenging to find parking depending on when you stop by. I appreciate that they have outdoor seating but we chose to eat inside. We were greeted immediately and seated quickly. Our waiter Lalo was everything! He was patient as we decided what we wanted since it was our first time there, he shared recommendations on the menu and was just pleasant and provided great customer service throughout our meal. The restaurant serves brunch, lunch, and dinner. For brunch my friend and I shared their mimosa deal. We got a bottle of bubbly, two juices; we chose cranberry and guava, and fresh fruit that made the experience "fancy". For our meals; my friend got eggs Benedict, her godson got biscuits and gravy, and I tried something exotic Shakshuka. My meal was really good, the bread complimented the tomato sauce, egg, and goat cheese. My only critique is the sauce could have been spicer. Food was pretty good, service was pretty good, however we went at a busy time and spent a lot of time waiting. Server was long to come around and revisit us at each touch, and food was long to come out. Unfortunately that's really what I remember most, so tells me the food was okay, but the taste in my mouth didn't help. So don't go when it's busy if you don't have all night, can't knock them too much for being busy, however on the other hand guessing they knew they'd be busy. read more

We recently moved back to the Dallas area after living in St Louis. We're celebrating our anniversary of 36 years and wanted to have a nice lunch. We found Renny's on Yelp and the reviews and pics were good so we decided to try it. We were not disappointed! Our server, Mark was outstanding. He was attentive but not in your face and gave helpful advice on menu options. We started with the PEI mussels for our appetizer. So tasty!! I could have drank the leftover broth it was so flavorful but I restrained myself. My husband ordered the daily special: a pork ribeye with mashed potatoes and green beans. It exceeded his expectations! I had the Thai beef salad. It was a perfect balance of savory, sweet and refreshing on a hot summer day. We managed to find room for the passion fruit ice cream pie. What a wonderful place! Mark M. is so talented. This restaurant pays homage to his dad Renny! And everything is so thoughtfully curated. His daughter designed the space and she is amazing! Everything is so beautiful and well thought through. The speakeasy, The Stache (like a moustache haha), is absolutely beautiful and divine. From the cozy yet classy seatings, to the bar area. You come in and have to guess the password on the board with the key card. Highly recommend booking a reservation through rezy. Make sure you look for the Stash instead of the restaurant if you want to go to the speakeasy. Open Wednesday to Saturday 6pm to midnight. The food is delicious! My boyfriend could not stop slurping up the pasta from the coconut curry redfish. It was delicious and so well balanced! It comes with a nice, beautiful piece of redfish that is charred perfectly. You have a slice of lime to add a refreshing twist. The biscuits and gravy for brunch is also great! The egg yolks were runny and so glossy! I can't get over how good everything is and look forward to coming back. The lychee lovebomb is as delicious as it looks. It's made with tiro's vodka, coconut cream, lychee lemon juice and topped with a heavy hand of ube foam. It plays with all the senses! Smells amazing and taste like paradise! I had dinner at Renny's for the first time a few weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised. I say surprised not because I had heard anything negative about the place but because I walked in with my daughter's 11 year old volleyball team and immediately thought "this place is too nice to for our party of 12 neon orange jerseys." The staff, however, was not only friendly but amazingly accommodating. They were super nice to the kids and let our group of dads enjoy our absolutely delicious dinner before having to hustle to the kids' next match. I wouldn't necessarily suggest replicating our experience but I would 100% recommend Renny's. I have already made plans to come back with my wife for a nice date night and can't wait. read more

You know your in great neighborhood gem of a restaurant when you see the owner is there from mid morning until 5:30 / 6:00pm just greeting customers and keeping a watchful eye on service. The food is always on point as is the service. Simple 1 page menu but everything on it is exceptional! They take reservations through Resy and it's a good idea to make them in advance. Lastly, they have a special venue (speakeasy) called "The Stache" which is also great for dinner & drinks in a very low key atmosphere. You can make reservations for that as well. read more

My friend and I celebrated both of our birthdays together at RENNY'S for lunch. We sat in a comfortable, beautiful booth and our waitress was very attentive and kind. I ordered one of the lunch specials- a Salad Nicoise with Ahi Tuna. I requested that they cook the tuna- medium- so that it was not raw on the inside. The tuna was perfectly cooked with a great sesame crust atop the most well dressed, delicious Niçoise salad I have ever tasted. Full of bright capers, sweet cherry tomatoes, Nicoise olives, hard boiled egg wedges, cucumbers and chopped lettuce ( not sure if it was romaine- but I think so...), every bite was crunchy, bright and fresh. It was a generous serving and as pretty to look at as it was tasty. Bravo RENNY'S! I'll be back. read more

We arrived at around 11:00 and were greeted immediately but had to wait for our plates to be cleared, more water and to be cashed out. I was so disappointed when Maquire's on the tollway closed, but yay!, Renny's on Preston and Forest opened. Renny's has the same owner and this new restaurant is brighter and fancier than Maquire's, It has the same great, friendly and attentive bar staff, including Michelle. I am also pleased to say the food is fabulous, as always. One of my all-time favorite foods is their Thai beef salad. Their well seasoned beef tenderloin is consistently cooked to med rare perfection. This combined with udon noodles, mango, peanuts, mint, avocados on top of baby greens and dressed with sesame chili aioli is mouth watering deliciousness. The Manhasset mussels were succulent and had just the right amount of garlic. Also in this visit, we tried the sesame seared Ahi tuna. Plating was gorgeous and taste to match. I went here for dinner and I had The MacGuire Salad (excellent, highly recommend) Hot Lopez (spicy chicken sandwich, giant portion, very good) Seasoned fries (great with the sandwich, huge portion) Chocolate lava cake (good, not as much "lava" as I'd like though) Seasonal apple tart (outstanding, thinking about this the day after) The food as a whole was excellent. There were no really weak points in the meal. I thought it was very reasonably priced too, it never felt like a dish wasn't worth the price. The service was also outstanding. Our server was one of the most thoughtful I've ever had. I wish more servers were as attentive as he was. He'd refill my drink and bring fresh ice just as soon as I thought of asking him. I wish I remembered the gentleman's name, because he truly was excellent. Finally, the ambiance was pretty nice too. Pretty nicely decorated, and a good spot for a nice dinner out. I'm always surprised at how empty the place is because the food is so good and well priced for the quality.
