I didn't think they could top themselves, but the new spring menu proved me wrong. The staff is just as incredible - so kind and genuinely welcoming in a way that's hard to find. I'm there 2-3 times a week some weeks and it never gets old. From birthdays and milestones to New Year's Eve and random weeknight dinners or happy hours, I've experienced Meridian in every setting and it's perfect every single time. I am speechless and completely shookethhhh. One of the best meals I've had in Dallas, and honestly in the U.S. ( and I've eaten at many Michelin Star restaurants). From the moment we walked into Meridian, we were greeted with such a warm welcome from the hosts and bar team. The service was incredible, Robert and Cindy were especially kind and made the entire experience even more memorable. Every single dish blew us away (and we ordered a lot--over eight items ). I cannot stop thinking about the Pork Kan Kan perfectly cooked, served with crispy potatoes and a fresh, delicious salad. And the desserts... we ordered 3 because we couldn't decide, and they were absolute showstoppers. The Coconut Kalamansi Sorbet with tapioca pieces was next level. This restaurant is located in a beautiful plaza but is a little tricky to find at first--the GPS kept directing us to what looked like a luxury apartment building. Don't let that stop you, though. It's absolutely worth the effort once you arrive. The food and drinks here are creative, detailed, and thoughtfully executed. We tried several chef's specials, and every dish felt like a small surprise. Each bite brought something new, and I honestly felt spoiled by the experience. Standouts for me were the mushroom dishes and the broccolini with garlic--simple but perfectly done. The cornbread was excellent on its own, especially with the extra butter, even without the foie gras. The aged beef tasted a little unusual to me, but I really appreciated that the price was adjusted at checkout, which says a lot about the restaurant's integrity. The staff were very knowledgeable, attentive, and made the whole experience feel relaxed and welcoming. Even the restroom was impressive--clean, luxurious, and thoughtfully designed, with fabric towels instead of paper, which I loved for its sustainability. So, first, make sure you make a reservation. When you walk in, you are greeted by the hostess--she's a very nice lady. I have to say, they are very accommodating; my dad has a prosthetic, and they made sure we had a perfect table for him. So many kudos! As we sat down, our waiter Robert introduced himself; he was amazing. Since it was our first time there, he explained every part of the menu and gave some great recommendations. We had a wonderful assortment of food. The bread is so delicious--almost melts in your mouth--and the butter that comes with it is perfect. The beef tartar has a nice texture and flavor; when I first tasted it, it reminded me of salmon, but I knew it wasn't. The cocktail I had is called "Practical Magic." It has lavender infused in it, and it's a gin-based drink. The Sakura pork is so delicious. It has a nice spicy crust--not very spicy, just a little kick. The meat is tender, and there's a nice verju in the middle that pairs great with it. The chicken is very nice and moist, not dry at all. The skin was a bit salty, but that's just my palate. The Wago beef cheek was great; my brother said that it just melted in your mouth, and the broth really brought everything together. The s'mores dessert is delicious. It really brought back camping memories. The only thing is that it's like a mousse, so my brain was a bit confused--other than that, it was delicious. The banana bun was good; I loved the caramel, and the banana ice cream was a nice complement. Overall we had the most amazing time. Meridian 2.0 - an innovative, thoughtful establishment led by Chef Eduardo that you must try. I took a peek into the kitchen, and learned from Chef how the wood-fired hearth (the heart of the restaurant) is central to the restaurant's identity. Most items pass through the hearth at some point in its prep - from slowly marinating in smoke essence at the top rack to charred straight on the fire itself. First the food: - duck breast: 6/5, to die for, juicy, just the perfect amount of smokiness, accompanied with a sweet jam - branzino: 5/5, perfectly charred - blue cornbread: 5/5, incredibly moist, and the foie gras was added in a way that made sense - a nice richness. I also usually am not keen on adding caviar for the sake of caviar, but we did the optional add-on and I highly recommend, adds a nice saltiness - crudo: 5/5; a unique blend of flavors featuring passion fruit - ribeye: 4/5, a light dry aged with a deeply flavorful tomato ragú - chilled smoked oyster: 4/5, refreshing small bite - blue prawn toast: 4/5, though I personally don't gravitate towards deep fried items, the chives and portion of prawn washed away what typically would be oily - winter greens salad: 4/5, citrusy and wintery with bites of hazelnut - sweet potatoes: 4/5, a little too sweet for me (which we were warned ahead of time) but loved the medley of flavors - viet coffee ice cream: 3.75/5, lots of promise but this (along with the other dessert) needs some work, the salted cream was a nice touch but it's quite strong and if you get a big scoop of the cream, it's overwhelming. Not sure how I felt about the cake, got a little soggy on the bottom. I think a crispy texture would've been nice to round the dish out. - kalmansi sorbet: 3/5, I think similar here because there's a lot of soft textures, a crisp texture would've been nice. I liked each component of the dish but not sure if they melded together well for me. Our server, Doug, was phenomenal. He gave honest and great recommendations, not just your typical "everything is delicious!" He accommodated one member of our party who didn't like his initial drink and swapped it out with a persimmon drink that hit the spot. Water cups were promptly refilled, and dishes were timed well. I also appreciated their new interior decor and loved the paper used for the menu (reflective dots that made the menu appear as if it was glittering). Our server was extremely attentive and helped us celebrate our 2 year anniversary so well. I will tell you, the service is absolutely 5 stars! They are staffed to the MAX at this place wow! And the ambiance is seriously amazing. Low light and romantic. Inside and outdoor seating options with a great view of the beautiful surroundings. The food just doesn't quite hit the spot. Don't get me wrong, it's yummy but just not what I was expecting. The pastas are the best but it just feels like they're trying TOO hard if that makes sense. I wasn't that big a fan of the cornbread or the Texas wagyu. The blue cornbread was fun to try but way too sweet (could pass as dessert) and not corny enough. The wagyu, while VERY fairly priced for such a good portion, just wasn't a good cut. I kept having to spit pieces out. And then the s'more's...WOW. In my opinion one is enough for two to share even though it's a small dessert. But it's RICH and they toast the marshmallow in front of you with a really cool little thing and I don't even know what it is lol. The cocktails were ok. Comes with the Parmesan roasted smashed potatoes which are a must to try. Three cheers for fine dining! I am thrilled to have discovered Meridian, which addresses - in my opinion - a major need in the Dallas dining scene for upscale food served in a chic, upscale kind of way. It's a completely different vibe from the pricey steakhouses and flashy-instagrammable-nightlcub-esque restaurants that saturates the market. If you're looking for a great meal where you can actually hear what your tablemates are saying, this is a great pick. We dined here on New Years Eve and were really happy with the experience start-to-finish. Our group kicked off with a cocktail at the bar area, with friendly bartenders answering our questions, engaging in banter, and serving up superbly crafted cocktails. The six-course tasting menu was really great and showed a range of technical skill. The laminated brioche, golden and flaky on the outside, melted in my mouth with each buttery layer. The pasta in the duck ragu was delicate and fresh. The scallop was absolute perfection in every way, with a crisp sear on the outside and tender on the inside. I would have been delighted if it had been served without any accompaniments, but the onion broth with miso was out of this world. I loved it! And as someone that doesn't love sugary desserts, I really appreciate that the pavlova was flavorful without being overly sweet. The sommelier, Caitlin, guided us through her hand-picked wine tastings on every course. We loved her selections and she was very thoughtful and thorough in her explanations. I also want to share that the hostess was so welcoming and kind. She didn't bat an eye when I requested a signed menu (it's a memento I collect from tasting menus) and spearheaded the effort to take care of my request. One sidenote - I had heard about the departure of some of Meridian's key culinary staff. But as someone who has only been to the restaurant in the new era, I can confidently say that Meridian is one of the best restaurants in Dallas. It for sure lands a spot in my top 3 establishments. The current team has clearly maintained the restaurant's high standards. I eagerly anticipate my next visit to Meridian and wholeheartedly recommend the restaurant to fellow fine dining enthusiasts. Our server warned us (and was stated on the menu) that the Brazilian cheese bread would take 20+ minutes to cook but I insisted on ordering anyways and I'm glad we did! In one word, my recent visit to Meridian was "lovely". For starters, the space is beautiful, sophisticated, an upscale (but not overly stuffy). The bar and bartenders were awesome! They created a mocktail just for me when I couldn't find anything I wanted on the drink menu and it was absolutely delicious. I'll admit, I'm not by any means an expert on South American cuisine, but everything I had was pretty good. I selected the snapper, risotto and pavlova from the prix fixe menu and had no complaints. The only negative was that despite raves from our server (and our table neighbors), the cabbage based Okonmiyaki was no bueno. The flavor profile just wasn't working, a little too sweet and acidic. Meridian definitely makes it into my top 5 favorite Dallas restaurants for 2022. It should not be missed. The ambiance is lovely, but at the same time it felt slightly stuffy to me. The servers had a more casual vibe, which helped balance it. One star off is for: 1.) Can be slow on the service, especially on drinks coming out - we didn't get our pairings in time for the dish we ordered it for. 2.) Lack of depth in flavor on a couple of pasta dishes. Main - Rosewood Wagyu Picanha: Delicious, and the fried potato that came with it was a nice pairing. Side - Miyatake Mushroom: Loved this, the onion subise that came with the mushrooms made this a wonderful side dish. The pancetta brings it all together. Dessert - Brigadeiro Cake and Yucca & Coconut cake: the Brigadeiro cake is an absolute must have at Meridian. If you are a chocolate fan, I can confirm that this will be one of the best things you have ever eaten. The Coconut cake was good, but just a tad bit dry. The lime ganache helped, but just wish the cake was a bit more moist. Definitely pair both of these with a dessert wine. My husband and I have been hearing about Meridian for over a year at this point, so we were happy to finally be able to visit and try out their take on Brazilian cuisine last month. We arrived early enough in the afternoon for me to take advantage of the happy hour drink deals, and I got to try the tiki batida drink that was very coconut-y and creamy. Super refreshing on a hot August day! Our server recommended a few items from each section of the menu, so we began with the tapioca cheese fritters and the beef tartare. Both were definitely winners in our book; the fritters were my husband's favorite and had such an interesting crisp on the outside and chew on the inside. I loved the beef tartare a ton -- so garlicky in flavor and the shiso leaf wrapped around it was a great herby offset to the richness of the filling. We then moved on to the heavier appetizers; our selections were the heirloom tomatoes and the fluke tartare. Loved the flavors in both dishes; the tomatoes were super bright and paired super well with the whipped cheese below, and the fluke tartare was super fresh. We did wish that there was something crispy to eat the fluke tartare with, maybe some kind of crostini, but it was still delicious on its own. For our mains, we selected the grouper moqueca, which came with some fluffy white rice, and ricotta gnudi. The grouper was perfectly cooked, succulent and flaky, and the curry-like sauce that it came in was so delicious with the white rice. The gnudi wasn't too heavy or dense, but was instead light and fluffy, and really soaked up the rich sauce that it came in. Both winners! We ended with two desserts: the guava and pineapple cheesecake, and the house yucca and coconut cake, which our server explained was Chef Borges' grandmother's recipe. Both were delightful ends to our meal, especially the yucca and coconut cake which was super light and very tasty, and we were stuffed to the gills by the time we were finished. I was so invested in the food I forgot to take photos. Silly me! For appetizers we had the daily bread (great sides for dipping! there was a nori butter and a spicy tomato sauce we really liked), beef tartare (a little too truffley), and Brazilian cheese fritters (great sauce!). I ordered cured halibut, which was very good and well-balanced. All of the dishes in the middle of the menu are of course light dishes. The friend I was with had the crab ravioli, which was very rich and pretty good, but didn't compare to the halibut! Finally we had the red grouper, which came in a great sauce that tastes like Thai red curry. I don't think plantains really fit with the dish, though. All in all it was just good. To drink I had the yuzu lager and my friend had a delicious cocktail I cannot recommend enough: The Belle. It was just amazing. I wish I knew the measurements to make it at home! The service was great, my water was constantly filled (I mean I wouldn't be even halfway through and I'd get topped up!) and they explained every dish as they came. I might even go as far as saying they were a little too attentive. It's beautiful inside, but a little bit loud. We were there on a Tuesday night with not many people, so it wasn't unbearable, but the music could come down a notch. I can't imagine how weekends must be! read more
