I've been to FarOut a dozen times and have never been disappointed. The food menu rotates seasonally for optimal quality and nutrition. In fact, not one ingredient is sourced from over 50miles away. I think a lot of restaurants claim to be "farm to table" but few actually are. Far Out even has a small garden in the back for herbs and veggies. The feeling you get when you're at FarOut is like you're on vacation, like you're not in Dallas, like you're at a retreat in New Mexico. The building used to be an old military hanger which is where they get their iconic domed ceiling. I know I can always count on the host greeting you right at the door, food coming out at a reasonable time, and water being refilled before having to ask. Far Out totally lived up to the hype! Everything is made fresh to order and you can taste the difference. We started with the Melted Leek and Cauliflower Gratin to share; the sherry pickled cauliflower and mushroom XO gave it such a savory depth, and the house focaccia was perfect for scooping up every last bit. For entrees, I had the Tagliatelle Wagyu Sugo Bianco, which was so flavorful and the toasted pecan crunch added the best unexpected crunchy texture. My mom and sister split the Texas Chuck Flap and the Texas Sweet Potato Textures, and they said both were delicious. To drink, we went the mocktail route my sister and I ordered the Garden Party, which was so tasty and refreshing. My mom ordered the Root & Remedy and said it tasted kind of earthy and bright. We saved room for dessert and I'm soo glad we did. The Texas Olive Oil Cake with caramelized apple was cozy and comforting, and the Chocolate Texas Pecan and Mushroom Dacquoise was unlike anything I've had! Giving it 5 stars because of the amazing venue and architectural landscaping this restaurant offers. This restaurant is tucked out near fair park. Once you get there, It feels like you're in the southwest or something. I like that you can go there just to have a casual drink outside or even a light study. Came here for an early dinner yesterday, and while I was disappointed there weren't any entree options for pescatarians or vegetarians, we really liked the appetizers and dessert we had! Have had Far Out on my list of date nights for over a year now and my girlfriend and I were finally able to make it out. We were not disappointed. Started off the night with the mushroom croquetas which are locally sourced from a family in Rockwall. The orange sauce underneath was the standout and the dish had an excellent acidity to it. We then tried the duck salad which was my favorite of the night. The duck was tender and the pickled carrots mixed well with the savory taste. We finished with the pork shank pasta. I personally think the pasta was a little undercooked for my liking but it was still a good plate. The biggest highlight of the night I'd have to say were the drinks. Boom goes the dynamite is my pick but if you like sweeter get the velvet kashmire rita. Expect to pay $50-60 per person just fyi but worth it in my opinion for the ambiance alone. read more

My husband and I have been fans of Misti Norris since the Petra and the Beast days and we also really loved the Saint Valentine food experience we had last year, so when my out of town friend was coming into town for a Tuesday hockey game, we had to come and get, among other things, the pig tails. Unfortunately this particular night that dish was really tough and stringy, not like the pig tails we used to order at Petra; I figure it was maybe an off night because the other dishes we tried were quite excellent. We particularly enjoyed the white bean dip, the sweet potato textures, and the leek cauliflower gratin. The drinks we got at the bar were also great! On my last trip to Dallas, my friend made reservations at this amazing restaurant. From the moment we walked in, we were warmly greeted and seated at a cozy booth (five stars for that alone). Our server came by right away and offered to answer any questions about the menu. We ordered some delicious cocktails, and they were spot-on. The food arrived promptly. The dishes are on the smaller side (tapas-style), so we ordered three plates and one dessert to share between the two of us. We tried items No. 1, 6, 9, and 11, they were all beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. After being bummed when finding out the latest rendition of "Petra and the Beast" had closed, I was happy to not only come across "Far Out" in my search for a unique dining spot, but also that Chef Misti Norris was at the helm! It also appeared unique enough to make up for the slew of "not exactly the same, but way too similar" spots popping up all over DFW that seem to cater to a specific crowd who maybe care more about atmosphere and getting the best social media photos than what they're actually eating. I knew with Misti as chef, the food would be the highlight! But that doesn't mean the atmosphere isn't fantastic! Very unique and unlike any other spot you'll go to in Dallas. If only it was later at night and/or cooler to take advantage of the otherwise inviting patio! "Cry Wolf"--another place that unfortunately closed--was the last restaurant I'd been to with this type of uniqueness. "Far Out" is an as good of if not better alternative! Menu is small, but everything tasted was incredible. The frozen watermelon margarita with a "mood enhancing shot of Buddi Coco" was so mood enhancing that I had two! With family in town over the holidays, we took the opportunity to do a date night and reset a bit from all the holiday chaos. We had been hearing about Misti Norris moving here, so we decided to check out Far Out with fairly high expectations. There's a neat, almost exploratory quality to the space, with little sun-lit pockets and outdoor details around the restaurant that make arriving and moving through it feel fun. Inside, the energy was calm but engaged, which made it easy to settle in and focus on the meal. Service was observant and well paced, a welcome contrast after weeks of full houses and constant motion. Overall, it felt thoughtful without feeling stiff or overdesigned. The Crispy Chili and Pecan Rubbed Heritage Chicken anchored the night. We found ourselves talking about it more than once the next day, which is usually my clearest signal that something really worked. I had the Butter Me Up cocktail. It was clean, and balanced in a way that mirrored the food. Overall, the experience matched what we were hoping for. Thoughtful cooking, good pacing, and a sense that nothing was there by accident. The decor has been updated to dessert chic and the massive patio area is full of desert plants. Inside has the same beautiful windows and great mood lighting. Our servers were all amazing and they sit with you to go over the menu which is a fun little twist. Cocktails are delicious. Highly recommend the Southbound Smash for a refreshing drink that's a fun play on cucumbers and gin. Most of the liquor here is sourced from local to Texas distillers which is awesome. Now for the food, Misti Norris was just named the new director of cuisine the day we went in so we don't know if this is her menu or if it'll change, but everything we had was truly amazing. The white bean deep with chili oil I could eat by the pound. I appreciated that the dishes were numbered to make them easier to order. We had the tomatoes with pig ears dish and it was so tasty yet unique. The smothered tri tip was perfectly tinder and the potato cake to die for. Our total bill for 2 people ordering 4 cocktails and 3 dishes after tip was $110, so not bad for Dallas. Looking forward to coming back on a Thursday when they do live music on the patio. We were looking for a quick bite and drink before the show at music hall and boy did we get lucky. While there were some other popular options that were walking distance from the venue, the vibe and menu here looked so unique that it's worth the short drive! Little did we know that Dallas Legend Chef Misti Norris (From Petra and the beast) is running the kitchen here at the moment and you know it's going to be good. While the menu currently is small, it is so darn good. We started off with the fish tostadas which were just so delicious and crunchy while letting the fish shine on its own, we had to order seconds! The potato costra while it looks strange almost like a chocolate bar covered in cheese, is also excellent and a rich addition to the menu (a nice plate to share for the table). The ribs were so unique, apparently sous vide and then cooked to a nice crisp these were so yummy and savory. To end the meal, they served a seasonal strawberry cobble with a thyme whip which was ridiculously good and a perfect way to end the meal without feeling too full.
