Been driving by this place on the route to my office for about a year. Finally decided to stop in and order some breakfast tacos...very disturbing that the owner handles the tortillas, eggs and tacos with bare hands, no disposable gloves. He grabs tortillas from a plastic bag with bare hands, spoons the eggs into the tortillas and then arranges the eggs by hand and rolls up the tortillas in tinfoil, again all bare-handed. I noticed a box of disposable gloves sitting right on the counter but he doesn't use them. The more I thought about it the more repulsed I became. I did not eat the tacos, instead choosing to throw them away. I will not ever be back to this establishment and I would not recommend anyone to go there. read more

Tacos came filled with more pico than meat and the pico was terrible, massive chunks of onion, like 2 inch long chunks. I also didn't ask them to put the pico on the tacos, just ordered chorizo and egg and bacon and egg tacos. They added all the pico, which typically you would add yourself right? Not here. I also had egg shells in 2 out of 3 tacos, and the tortillas weren't good either, just not very tasty. I have never met a breakfast taco I didn't like until today, that was disgusting. read more

The owner is incredibly rude almost like customers need him. I politely asked if they do breakfast burritos and he points at the menu and mumbles while walking away. I ask again and he goes ahead to somehow explain to me the difference between a taco and a burrito tortilla and says the burrito will be expensive and quotes the price as if I told him I have a strict amount to spend. Long story short, his whole body language and demeanor was crass at best. Look here Boss man owner, as a customer you're not doing me any favors. It's a transaction not charity. Was craving a BLT, somewhere close to my office. Went to DJ's because their online menu shows the BLT as $2.99. Got there and was charged $4.15 plus tax! All their prices are at least $1 more than the website. The BLT was okay. White bread toasted with smoky bacon, shredded romaine lettuce, 2 slices of tomato and mayo. i was referred by a friend to try this out and will definitely not order from here again. food was delivered to us at work and i ordered the sour creme enchiladas. from my understanding the sour creme is suppose to be a sauce on top of the enchiladas and not a scoop on the side. the beans look crusty like they came out of a can and rice was not authentic at all. food looked as if it had been sitting out for a while. i called and spoke with michael who suppose to be the manager to tell him about my experience. he was rude and tried to rush me off the phone and stated this was authentic mexican food not commercial. i had to asked how i would be accommodated for my experience because he didn't offer which at that point he adv me to ask for him when i come back (not sure why he think i would come back) to ask for him. he refused to give me a last name and stated he's the owner and he's there all day. worst service ever!!!!!!!!! i would not recommend this to any one. read more

This place is awesome. The breakfast tacos are fantastic - the ham is nice and spicy and they make their own chorizo with beef instead of leftover pork products so I'll actually eat it. The eggs are seasoned, unlike other places...and the guy that owns the place is always there and super nice. Everything I've had so far, breakfast or lunch, has been great. The flautas are my favorite though. The people that said to save your money and to go taco bell must enjoy eating dog food and think mayo is spicy. read more

Some of the best tacos in DFW. Everything is made fresh on site, and you can tell. The owner will tell you how he makes everything, but he holds back the secrets! I normally get the beef tacos, but I have tried all of the breakfast burritos and the chicken as well. He always serves with a phenomenal cilantro herb blend and fresh salsa. The tortillas are unlike what you can buy, as they are always thick and fresh and perfect (crispy or soft) Hands down - no question: DJ MAKES THE BEST CHORIZO BREAKFAST TACOS in DFW (maybe the world). He will share a little bit about what he does to achieve this awesomeness, but just a hint. As far as service, I was not able to visit in over a month, but the owner remembered how I like my tacos without asking. DJ is far from rude, instead he is friendly and passionate about his food. If he was rude, he probably didn't want you ruining it for us good customers. I have heard wonderful things about his pulled pork, salmon and cheeseburgers as well. That's next on my list. THIS IS NOT A $1 GAS STATION BURRITO. If you are a cheapo, then stick with Taco Bueno. If you don't mind an extra dollar or two for fresh authentic food, DJs is the place. Man I love DJ's, everyone I work with loves DJ's, and my friends who have had the pleasure of eating there love DJ's too. I work down the street from DJ's and when I first began working there, I kept hearing DJ's this and DJ's that. Everyone would rant and rave about their breakfast tacos. I'm not really a fan of eggs so I was never really interested when I heard all this hype. Then a coworker forced me to try a breakfast taco and I have been hooked ever since. There is something about the way they cook their eggs with the combination of skillet potatoes and cheese that just works for me and just when you think it couldn't get any better, it does. One of my favorite breakfast taco's for almost 20 years. I have bought these tacos for many many breakfast meetings at various jobs over the years, and people always love them. The salsa is super yummy, too. I would drink it if I could. The location is odd. They are in a strip center next to a donut store and a dry cleaners, so they are easy to miss. There is very limited seating, so don't expect to take a large group there. There have been times when their breakfast orders have been so extensive that by the time I get out there for breakfast they are completely sold out of my fav ham tacos at 8 am, so I must settle for my second fav. I was super excited to come after reading the reviews on how great the tacos are. But when I got here the cook stated that he is no longer cooking breakfast. l looked at my clock and told him it's still breakfast hour anywhere else. He then stated all I got is eggs and potatoes left. The eggs looked dried up, brownish looking and old while the potatoes looked cold and chunky. And he looked at me like either you want it or not. Found this place via yelp in spite of living just minutes away for several years. Somehow I had never ventured north on Addison Rd past Keller Springs. I went to DJ's for lunch on a weekday afternoon. I ordered the 3 chicken taco combo with rice and beans. There were only crispy corn shells or soft flour tortillas to choose from. No corn tortillas which was bad news for my gluten-free dining buddy. He'd have to live with the Americanized corn shells. The chicken was shredded with some nice seasonings and topped with lettuce, tomato, and cheese. Salsa comes on the side. I found the tacos rather uninspiring and overpriced. The rice and beans tasted like they came from a mix or worse yet a can (canned rice? a distinct possibility). The ingredients had a Sysco feel to them. Bulk, overprocessed, hyper-preserved. The meal was edible, but I'd rather save some cash and visit Taco Cabana for the same quality served much quicker. The inside has three tiny tables, so seating is very limited. As Joe F. mentioned, the owner is a character who told us "you'll be back" when he found out it was our first time in. Extra points for having Mexican coke in bottles though. I dropped by Dj's Taco Express today on the advice of a friend who said these are the best tacos he's ever had. I may have to re-think our friendship... I ordered the three crispy beef taco platter which includes rice and refried beans. The rice was okay. I've tried making "mexican" rice at home from scratch on several occasions. It comes out good, but not spectacular. This wasn't any worse than mine. The refried beans was nothing to brag about. But then again, who would? The tacos... First thing I noticed are that the shells are thicker than I'm used to, which is cool. Plenty of beef in there, the cheese appeared more or less freshly grated, and the lettuce looked fresh as well. No tomatoes or onions were on these tacos, and I would have preferred there to have been. The salsa, while thin, was tasty and a bit hot. Not the best I've had, not the worst. So, I ate them. My stomach became full. Mission accomplished. Now for the more negative aspect of my experience. This platter of three tacos, rice and beans rang up $9.73. This is way too expensive for a meal like this. Not only that, the guy (I think it was DJ, the guy with the 'tude) rang me up wrong. He first rang up only $.93. I was honest and pointed this out and he was friendly enough, talking about how his eyes are going bad, etc. (join the club). But instead of ringing up the remaining $8.80, he rang up $9.00. Now a difference of $.20 is absolutely nothing to worry about and I didn't balk. However, it tells me a little something about the owner's attitude that I don't like. And I don't like being ripped off whether it's 20 cents or 20 dollars. There is a sign directly behind the register that says something like "The level of service depends upon my mood and your attitude." and I think that pretty much sums it up. So, I won't be coming here again. The food is not worth the expense and there needs to be better attitude and service and that onus lies directly upon DJ, not his customers. 2 stars only because these weren't the worst tacos I've had, otherwise it would have been 1 star. read more

I was looking for a good hole in the wall Mexican food place and Yelp led me around the corner from my office! So, I agree with the girl about the taquitos. Awesome. Only complaint is that it was so much food that I almost felt TOO full! Coke in glass bottles was the bomb. I really enjoyed almost everything. Unfortunately, I also agree with people about the owner/manager behind the counter. He stares a bit too long and gives off a generally creepy vibe. Not to mention, as I was waiting for my food, he thought that would be a good time to start talking about the current unrest in our country and how it all had to do with "thugs". This is a great little lunch spot that has cheap burritos and other typical Mexican (or maybe Tex Mex) fare. My favorite is #4. There's a little seating, but most people buy to-go. Portions are huge and the spices are different than anywhere else (tons of garlic and the unusual addition of ginger in some items). Not sure why this is a 3 star place? I was told the cheeseburger was great here so that's what I got. Ordered the bacon cheeseburger and fries. The bacon was incredible and the rest of the burger was really good. Since it was my first time, I assumed that everything was fine n the side but it was fully assembled and unfortunately had mayo on it. Gross! I got through it and got mustard and will know how to order the burger on the next visit. So here's the deal - we were in Addison, we were craving tacos and we needed to purchase alcohol for the weekend. The solution? Hit up the Yelp app and hope something new pops up close to Inwood. Hasty Deli was the more convenient option, but they were closed so we hit up DJ's instead. This ended up being one of the best ideas of the weekend. We pulled up to the non-descript set of shops just past Addison airport and when we walked in the first thing the owner said was, "It's about time!" Registering our blank stares, he asked "You haven't been here before have you?" We shook our heads no. "Well then, it's about time you made it in." Apparently DJs is the oldest restaurant in Addison. You don't get staying power like that without a decent product. At the suggestion of the man behind the counter, I opted for the chicken soft taco plate (3 chicken tacos in flour tortillas with refried beans and rice). Slight snag, they were out of chicken. No problem says the man behind the counter, we'll cook some up fresh for you. Ten minutes later I'm handed a box that weighed a solid five pounds. Added a medio litro of Coke and took a seat to feast. The chicken was piping hot and incredibly juicy (kudos for the mix of white and dark meat). The onion, cilantro, tomato and jalapeno were just right and these tacos were FULL of meat (ba-ZING!). Finally a place that doesn't cheap you on the protein by overloading with veggies. I'm with Cristy P. that corn tortillas over store bought flour would have been ideal, but the flavor made up for it in my opinion. The refried beans were miles ahead of the over cheesed crap served in most places, and the rice was. . .well, rice. Now here's the sticking point. My meal cost $12. That's steep for a taco lunch. . .especially an order at the counter taco lunch. However, the food was way more than enough for 2 meals so I rationalized it as 2 $6 meals. . .not the best in the world, but easier to reason. Will I be back? Absolutely. There are too many tasty options on the menu (I'm looking at you breakfast tacos) to not make a return trip. read more

I was really excited to find a review for a taco place and try it out this morning. I finally found it and ordered 4 tacos - two potato and egg, one chorizo and egg, and one potato and chorizo. First, the guy up front only gives me three and misinterprets the order. Secondly, I get charged $5 for three tacos. When I ask why the amount is so much, he says "Because of the cheese, extra thirty cents." I said," But I didn't ask for that." He says, "Well, I put it on there, I charge for it.' What??? Just trying to get out of there, I paid my $5 for my tacos thinking I had 4 in there and when I get home and realize I have 3, I was pissed. I would have at least given another star if the tacos were good. They were not; they use store bought tortillas and gummy eggs. Yuck. All I have to say is I miss good tacos and as much as I support mom and pop joints- don't give this jerk any more business. What a meanie! read more

It's hard to mess up Mexican food when you live in Texas, so the crusty refried beans straight out of a can, the rice that was also nearly flavorless (but still the high point of my experience), the ground beef that wasn't seasoned, and the strangely flavored watery salsa was a surprise. You can get decent TexMex for far less pretty much anywhere such as Taco Cabana, so I'll be going there next time if I want Mexican food on the cheap. I hear the breakfast tacos are great, but I am too wary to try them. read more
