This place was awesome. I ordered the chorizo, egg and cheese breakfast tacos. You have a salsa bar to chose your heat level and the staff was great. Going back for lunch soon to try the tacos.

This place is very underrated. Normally wouldn't think to check it out but stopped in after living right by it for 2 years and it didn't disappoint. Their 3 tacos for $6 deal is a great value, they definitely don't cheat you on the meat either. Fajita beef is incredible and tender. Give them a try, you won't regret it!

California steak burrito

Their menu looks very nice with a lot shrimp and fish options. However, California steak burrito caught my eyes and I decided to get it instead of getting the carne asada fries appetizer. I love that the California steak burrito included guacamole and use fries instead of rice to add crunchy texture to the burrito. I really like cilantro rice but sometimes fries in burrito just make food more interesting. The steak is a little over seasoned and on the salty side which made me feel thirsty and drink a lot water and cola. I took off one star coz the seasoning is off on the steak burrito(salty) and chips and guacamole(plain). The service is good and fresh, I want to try the shrimp and fish tacos next.

Side Rice

I should have read the reviews before stopping here for tacos. The food was tasteless and the rice was hard. Very disappointed.

I had the shrimp salad and pozole, and Colin had the chicken brasa tacos. All of it was delectable. We asked for a spicier salsa, and our amazing waiter Daniel brought us this orange salsa that was probably habanero and SO GOOD. I had the Machete, which was insanely refreshing and came with frozen watermelon cubes instead of ice Colin looooved his Out of Office. Atmosphere 10/10. Food 10/10. Service 11/10. We will absolutely be back--and asking for Daniel!

There are so many Mexican\Tex Mex restaurants in North Texas and Mexican Sugar continues to impress. My Overall Rating - 4 Stars (Atmosphere, Service, Food, Return) Atmosphere - I love the atmosphere at Mexican Sugar. The restaurant itself reminds me of Mexico inside and out, and the different types of seating (communal, patio, traditional, cool) will give you plenty of options. But in the evening, when Happy Hour begins Mexican Sugar will fill up with tons of patrons and good energy. 1 Star. Service - The service has always been good on my multiple visits. This is a Mexican restaurant, and the staff know the menu very well. If you're not sure how something is pronounced or tastes, just ask! 1 Star. Food - There's brunch on the weekends and traditional Mexican dishes (tacos, enchiladas). On my visit on a holiday, I went with brunch and the Barbacoa Chilaquiles. This is a traditional Mexican breakfast where tender barbacoa is layered on tortilla chips along with a sunny side up egg. The result is a fantastic combination of flavors, texture, and heat. Yes, it's a slow burn, and those of you who like spice will love it. I had to finish it off with a Mexican Flan as a perfect way to cool my mouth. 1 Star. Will I Return? - Yes. Honestly, I don't know why Mexican Sugar is not in my rotation of places in Irving. It hits every mark and I've never been disappointed. Yes. I'll be back. 1 Star.

Waiter took our drink orders and quickly returned and took our order I ordered the Healthy choice meal. It arrived quickly and was very delicous, the chicken was tender and the veggies were sautéed perfectly. I hadn't noticed it didnt come with beans but guessing those aren't considered healthy. On the plus side, It has plenty of parking and a large lobby in case there is a wait. As far as food goes, the chips and salsa are fresh but pretty standard, there is nothing really to make these stand out. They are alright. This most recent visit I got a Paola's Plate with 3 different enchiladas. It had been about 2 years since I had last been to Mena's, but I don't remember it being so heavy. Out of the dish, the sour cream enchilada was the best one, but the queso on the soft cheese taco was too heavy and the chile con carne on the cheese enchilada was almost inedible. Service here is typically pretty transactional. We really felt like we were an obstacle to our waiter getting to do something else.

That Guacamole on a chip topped off with the fire roasted salsa is simply amazing . I ordered the Taco Salad with Chicken and Steak. The salad came with a smoky ranch salad dressing. It was amazing. My wife had the Brisket Enchiladas. They were superb. The atmosphere was amazing. Not too crowded because it was still early when we arrived. This place was surprisingly better than we expected. The food was outstanding . We've already made plans to return. Thank you for an excellent experience and amazing food.

The bathrooms weren't the nicest but also not the worst--one of the stall doors didn't lock, though they had added something to help with that. The inside is pretty nice, and our waiter came over shortly after we were seated. We ordered appetizers and drinks, and the appetizers arrived in about 15 minutes. Unfortunately, the service wasn't the best. Our server would leave for long periods and didn't check on us, even though she passed by our table multiple times and we clearly needed assistance. She also addressed us with very casual language like "yeah," which didn't feel very professional. That said, the food was excellent. Everything starting with the chips and salsa was great--the salsa was one of the best fresh salsas I've ever had. We also ordered the cheese quesadillas, and they were perfect in every way. My entrée was delicious as well; the cheese and meat were cooked perfectly, and the rice and beans were great. (I got the fajita Monterrey) Overall, the food was very tasty, but the service could definitely be more professional. Also, the menu is not very flexible--you can't substitute ingredients (like removing onions from the guacamole) or order off-menu items such as egg tacos, even though they have the ingredients. The food was good, but I'm not sure I loved the service.
