This place is delicious! Went there this morning for breakfast and both me and my boyfriend really enjoyed our sandwiches! I got a steak sandwich and he got some kind of breakfast sandwich with plantains on it. Be prepared-they have a big menu to choose from! I'm definitely going to be back to get something else. My husband and I found this cafe on Yelp' list of black owned businesses and we were impressed with not only the food menu but the drink/smoothie options so we decided to try it out and do our part to support as many businesses as we can during the pandemic. Both my husband and I ordered the hand-crafted burger & fries. The fries were cut thick just like I prefer & the insides were nice and fluffy. The burgers were huge & delicious! Honestly the burgers are so large we easily could have shared one & still both been satisfied. The owner and staff were very accommodating and gracious. The owner Tamba was extremely gracious. He took time to describe the cuisine and taught us about the origins of the dishes and also the name of the restaurant, which honors his grandmother Chulla, who was the tribal queen in his community. Let me start off by saying that this was the best customer service in a restaurant establishment that my mom and I ever had before, the owner and his wife Sandra, and Jimmy and Mark all treated us like we were a part of their own family. These people actually want to have a nice conversation with you, and we can tell that they genuinely love what they do in the restaurant industry. Second, the food was awesome, just great, everything is made fresh and in-house, I forgot what my mom had, I had the hungry lion burger and french fries, and 3 sauces, ketchup, mustard, and ranch, and the fries were just how my mom used to make them at home when she was younger, nice and hot, fresh smooth skin, and the burger, was excellent let me tell you! I normally do not like avocado, but I decided to put it on my burger this time, and I was surprised and impressed! The beef was fresh, the onions were also freshly cut, the tomato was good, the lettuce was fantastic, and the bacon was good! Even the avocado with mayonaise and the breosh bread buns also tasted good as well! The free hibiscus tea also was good as well! My mom and I both really enjoyed the free tea as well! Also, an added bonus was that the owner gave me an idea, since I am always used to putting my folded cane on the floor, he put it behind my chair, what a great idea! So five stars all-around, especially for the great customer service and conversation! Also, since the place is hard to find, the owner promised to maybe possibly add some bigger signs out front and all-around the actual building, so hopefully people can see it easier! At some restaurants me and my mom go to, sometimes we feel ignored and discriminated against for being mexicans, but no, not here! If you don't come here, then it is an absolute crime! WOW this place is amazing. I think its African food and American too. I never leave reviews but I had to say something about this place. It's super clean inside and looks like Chipotle style interior. And food just amazing, I ordered Tanjier soup with Whole Red Snapper, expecting soup in the bowl but it was all ingredients separate (grilled veggies, whole fish) on the plate with soup paste on the side and you mix it yourself, LOVE IT. Wow! This place is levels above anything else around here. This place seems like it would be in downtown or Folsom. The owners are really personable and ask you if you are enjoying the meal.
