Chubby Cattle BBQ has been our guilty pleasure ever since they first opened. We've been coming here consistently, and honestly... probably too often now... about once a month thanks to one very convincing server. Shoutout to Jun, our very first server, who talked us into getting the membership and we've never looked back. We've had many servers since, but Jun still stands out as the best. He cooks the meat perfectly every time and is incredibly attentive, which really made our first experience memorable. This is also the first (and only) restaurant we've taken our 8-week-old baby girl to, which says a lot about how comfortable we feel coming here. The staff helps us get a table where we can fit a stroller. At this point, we can't help but go for the Diamond tier because we love the premium meats that much. The quality and variety make it hard to downgrade once you've tried it. I also have to mention the boba and ice cream. I love it. This was my first time in Chubby Cattle and I can say the it met my expectations. The restaurant is in a great location with easy parking, the atmosphere is nice with a lot of wood inside that makes you feel cozy. Very clean too. The lady attending me was very helpful explaining the system and even offering me to cook the meat if I want it. (I rather do it myself as part of the experience) The quality of the meat is really good, very tasty even without the sauces and the texture perfect. The salad and dessert bar have a lot of variety for every taste and the star is the rice machine, pretty cool how it dispense the rice automatically. Definitely a major step up from places like KPot, but they have some operational bottlenecks to work out. The ambiance is spot-on and gives off a great, authentic Asian vibe. Second time going because it was so good the first time! The line/wait can be long - you can make an advance reservation on Yelp though with how busy it is it's not always going to be an exact time you get seated but will definitely save you a lot of time. You can put yourself on the Yelp wait list when you show up but both times (on a Saturday) waits were up to 45-60 minutes easily, and that was at a fairly irregular time (4pm ish). Food is the main highlight, even at the lowest tier the meats are incredible and not very many poor choices on the list. You order from the tablet and can do up to a certain amount of meats per order, every 10 or so minutes. Some meats come salt and pepper seasoned, then there are different marinades to choose from too (miso, green pepper), all recommended. The "special salt" is great to dip the unmarinated meats and you can make your own sauce at a sauce bar. There's also a whole middle area with various sides (corn cheese, mushrooms, to extremely random stuff like soup and dumplings and Wagyu sliders), a rice dispensing machine, sauce bar, and salad/side bar. The sides ordered from the tablet are single serve to be aware of. Staff and service are excellent, with how busy it is it's surprising how often we got attention from the staff at each visit. Occasionally staff will cook for you, but definitely do not expect that to always be the case when it is busy. Ordering food is done via tablet and it comes out quickly. Sometimes so much so you order and get up to grab food from the middle and you'll come back to a big stack of plates. One of the only downsides is that the equipment on the table is a little janky - disposable grills, single use cutlery, you'd think for the price to get some silverware to eat with! Social media influencers influenced me yet again. A friend and I came here on January 1st, knowing we had to start the new year off the right way--with some good eats, of course. Right off the bat, we were told there's a time limit, along with rules about how often we can order and how many items we can place per round. This might be the first AYCE Asian BBQ spot I've been to with this many restrictions. We both ordered the Gold tier, and while the limitations are clearly stated, only being able to order one option from the Special Meats section and just one piece per person felt like another restriction, especially for the price. Regardless, we ordered as much as we could within the allotted time and genuinely enjoyed just about everything. That said, the wagyu options didn't really stand out compared to the regular selections. The side dishes were all great--I could've eaten the nigiri all night. To my surprise, my favorite bite of the evening was the braised pork, which isn't even on the main menu but located at the food bar. It was so good I immediately started looking up recipes to make it at home. The décor is nice, but the restaurant itself is pretty tight. There's a corner that acts as a bit of a blind spot where the fast-moving staff fly by--I almost got bumped several times. And finally, the push to upsell a membership at the end of the meal felt...odd. Very salesman-ish. I just want to start off by saying if I was rating this place solely on service: 5 stars. Absolutely! The staff is so friendly and knowledgeable and they have the art of upsell down pat. Honestly, if I felt like the food was worth its price I would have bought a membership when our waiter offered it. And he was so friendly and charming I almost considered it! The ambience is also very edgy. The decor is very cool and the set up is intriguing. It's very gimmicky and photo worthy. It's one of those places that is very Instagram worthy. And what a unique concept! The self serve stations of rice and curry and drinks unfortunately the rice machine was out and took forever to restock as were the actual plates. I felt the curry was super oily. True to its name, this restaurant is heavy on the indulgence. And the portions are very smart and well thought out. These little plates come out with what you order on an iPad so that you can try a lot of different stuff. I was not thrilled with the order in which the food came out and I felt I was constantly reminding the staff of the side dishes I had ordered that were yet to come. The meats itself were not impressive at all. If the menu hadn't indicated I was ordering wagyu, I wouldn't have believed it. I found myself gravitating towards their sushi offerings, which were good but I didn't come to a place called Chubby Cattle to get sushi. We had a group of 4 but the table was extremely small. The table for 4 is probably only comfortable for 2 ppl with how much is ordered (10 every 6 mins) and it is small dishes. (4-5 pieces). They only give you 70 minutes to order and for Korean bbq and this made us feel extremely rushed so we couldn't enjoy for how expensive it is for the highest tier. They are strict on the 70 minutes too even though it was slow. It made us feel like we had to spam meat orders and not enjoy anything else offered. They were helpful when we first sat down. We pressed on the service call button and they never came later on in our meal. We kept looking around. Some staff walked around to change our grill and this was probably the only time we were able to find someone to ask for help towards the end of our meal. Their side dishes aren't great. I would suggest they highly work on the side dishes and time. It would make the experience a lot better since Wagyu is pretty fatty it can get tiring to eat it. Chubby Cattle BBQ is a fancy all you can eat Japanese BBQ! It is the sister restaurant of Chubby Cattle Shabu and Wagyu House. The interior was beautifully decorated with warm lighting, traditional lanterns, and authentic signage that makes you feel like you are in Japan. This is a really popular restaurant, especially on the weekends so definitely get a reservation in if possible. Our server was really friendly as well and our food orders came out at different times. We got the Silver Tier which is the lowest tier and does not include the A5 meat which was fine. Some of the meats we got were the Iberico Pork, Wagyu Steak, Prime Angus Top Blade. I was not a big fan of the Iberico Pork but I really liked the Wagyu Brisket! The beef, specifically the wagyu, tastes the best here. The other meats are kind of average. I think that the sides at the Chubby Cattles are all pretty amazing. We got the Creamy Spicy Tom Yum Soup which was perfectly creamy and spicy. The Shrimp Tempura and Fry Mini Buns are also amazing... very hot to eat when they come out! I also got the Steamed Egg which tasted very airy, unlike the ones you get at KBBQ. I feel alright about Japanese BBQ, so I think that while this place is pretty nice, I probably would not come here again because of my taste preferences (I prefer thicker cuts of meat for BBQ as opposed to thinly sliced cuts). Came for lunch and got their gold tier. The gold tier included one premium item per person. The hand rolls were okay. But the grilled wagyu meats like otoro were delicious. I thought the salmon was also pretty fresh. Off of the appetizers menu my favorite was definitely the steamed eggs! Very smooth and delicious. The creamy tom yum soup was good as well. It had a slight hint of spice to it too. All the meats were super tender and delicious. My favorites were the Wagyu short rib and iberico pork. The meats did take quite a while to be served, I would definitely order on the tablet when the time is up since there is a 6 minute wait in between each order but does take at least 15-20 for the meat to be serverd + time to cook. The service was very friendly, our server Christina was attentive and nice. She came to help us grill even the non specialty meats and changed our grill between sessions very often. Excellent Japanese BBQ in Duluth! We heard great things about Chubby Cattle and were happy to discover the quality of the food and service matched the hype. The experience was quite epic and we enjoyed our first visit so much we decided to get the membership since we decided we would definitely be coming again when my brother and his family visited from Texas. The first time you go you may be a bit overwhelmed with the process but basically you want to order as you are eating to get a steady flow of proteins and you get your money's worth for the ayce. The price is a little high but for the quality it is certainly understandable. We hope Chubby Cattle continues to do well so we can enjoy coming to this upscale Japanese BBQ restaurant for many years to come! This is my first time visiting this spot outside Atlanta. I've only been to their Chicago Chinatown location previously. So many different wagyu cuts to choose from with different marinades. Faves are the black pepper and miso. Buffet style side dishes and unique drinks. Favorites are the wagyu curry, cheese durian, garlic mushrooms, and lychee slush. Fun sauce combinations : ponzu and classic yakiniku are great, but the house special seasoning salt is all you need. Also, a sauce bar. The coolest automatic robot rice dispenser. I haven't seen one of these dispensers since Japan. Fun Japanese atmosphere, just like Kabukicho. Freshest sushi, uni, and tartare. Seafood lovers can really appreciate the quality. This new KBBQ spot still had the milk tea and juice dispensers I enjoyed, as well as the premium appetizers at the Gold Tier menu. However, I noticed the addition of a self-serve curry and rice bar, a vegetable bar, and a bar for other grill items, like corn cheese and garlic enoki. There is a self service bar for drinks, side dishes, and rice. The cuts of meat were for the most part pretty good! Higher quality than a typical all you can eat bbq restaurant. They even have sushi and hand rolls which were better than expected. While it's not cheap, I'd say it was a cool experience and the service was very good. There is a time limit, so make sure you get your orders in while you're cooking the rest of your meat. Note: if you come with a large group, you may want to split up table reservations as at the time of this review, there currently is only one grill per group. I thought it was going to be similar to chubby cattle shabu house that is across the street. It's very similar but the menu offerings are slightly different. None of the menu offered AYCE japanese A5 wagyu. While at gold tier at shabu house you are already at the AYCE Japanese A5 wagyu brisket. Yes you do get the AYCE sushi, but let's be honest no one is here for that as the quality is very normal. At least at the Wagyu house there is the option for Black Diamond for AYCE Japanese A5 wagyu. So we just settled for the silver tier as we saw no values in the other higher tiers. But we were not disappointed. The full blood short rib and the classic brisket was still very good. We love the yakiniku dipping sauce, pretty much remind me of Japan. The service is very prompt and everything came out quickly the sauce selection is average so I just opt for the yakiniku sauce. Dine off paper plates and cups. 2 hour limit where most of it is spent dodging distracted employees in the hallways to cross to the other side of the restaurant to the self-service station to grab your own drink, sides, or dessert. Order meats by tablet when seated but at a limited quantity which arrives at some point in tiny portions. Everything was freezing cold by time I could actually eat it. NOT an enjoyable experience with little kids while having to juggle all of that 3x and then also cook your own meat. I don't know why we even bothered eating out. read more

Nice subdued lighting makes it feel cozy. The food was really great with some options you can't find elsewhere like beef tongue. Some sashimi sides are also available. The only downside is it seemed like 90 minutes went by really fast. This makes it more of a eat and get out place than some AYCE locations that don't put you on a timer where you can keep ordering drinks and spend your time socializing. read more
