I've only visited this spot twice but both times were pretty good. Friendly service though a little slow both times. Very homey feel and cozy environment. I ordered the Vinny and a mimosa. The mimosa comes in a mason jar rather than a flute :) the Vinny is pretty basic but good and the sweet potatoes are flavorful. Unfortunately, my breakfast came out cold but again, the flavors were there and the egg was poached perfectly (they were definitely understaffed that day which might explain it) Would definitely return but will probably check out other brunch spots in Bend before picking this one again. read more

End of Spring Break weekend. Busy place, we waited for 45 minutes before we were seated on Saturday just after 12pm. Nice waiting areas outside. Indoor is a home turned into a restaurant. Cute honey feel. The decor has some interesting modern art on the walls. My husband ordered the Corned Beef Hash bowl. Absolutely to die for. Huge pieces of tender meat, eggs, veggies with the most outrageous horseradish sauce. So glad we split our dishes. I always get the Chicken fried steak when we are out. The ingredients looked amazing on the menu. I have to say, the flavor was unlike any other CFS I have eaten because of the blue cheese. Definitely gave it the pop. The most disappointing thing was the fried steak was, just a breaded steak. It was not pounded like normal Chicken fried steaks. But the saddest part was that the breadding was soft and soggy. With a CFS, I look for that crunch, like I experienced at JDub (see my review for their place). My son ordered the lobster eggs benidict. As a Bend local I've wanted to try Chow for almost a decade but it's always so packed. Finally got the chance but was unfortunately very disappointed. Our meals took a good 30min after ordering and just about everything was burnt. The waiter was friendly but gave our party a shrugging "sorry" when we expressed how burnt the food was. Also disappointing to pay $16 for a burger and chicken sandwich that come on a big plate with nothing else, no sides or even a garnish... I can't even begin to describe how nice the staff is at Chow. The host and every waitress I had an encounter with was so caring and friendly. I ordered the veggie benny with a side of bacon. It was absolutely amazing, it came with 5-6 different veggies and two perfectly poached eggs. My table also ordered the pancakes with apple and pear compote. We were so excited to try this dish but were very disappointed. The pancakes look so delish in pictures and even in person but they were sadly chewy and had an odd texture. We stopped by to enjoy brunch at the establishment. The restaurant itself was nice and or server was efficient and enthusiastic. The reason for the lower rating is because the food although good was all served lukewarm. I had biscuits and gravy and my daughter had the scrambled eggs with the potatoes. I loved that you can get a drink while you wait for your table (we waited about 45 minutes for a table of 4, but went on a Sunday morning of Labor Day, during a pandemic, so what can you expect, especially since it's a small place). Every time I go here there's a wait. I go here every time I'm in Bend. It's worth it every time This place serves up the best brunch in Bend (say that three times fast and a guy in a snowboarding jacket will appear and tell you why he loves living in Bend and leaving the hustle-and-bustle of Portland behind). And, it's easily in the top 5 best brunch places in the STATE. (the others are: Screendoor, Brodor, Tin Shed, and Word Of Mouth Neighborhood Bistro) Everything here tastes like it's made from scratch (because it is) and the wait staff are very friendly and accommodating. Protip: make sure you know what the specials are before you settle on a menu item, don't make that rookie mistake. The waits are long but you have easy access to coffee and morning alcohol drinks (it's ok if it has fruit juice in it!) The (corn?)-dusted tomatoes are unique (never heard of them before or since going here) and delicious, highly recommend getting them as your side. They also have house-made hot sauces that are EXCELLENT. Seriously, if you see anything that looks Mexican-influenced on the menu, GET IT. read more

Portland during Fall this year meant lots of flies :\ It's not just at Chow, but many other restaurants we ate at also had those annoyingly fat black flies that wouldn't leave us and our food alone! Sit outside if the weather allows...you'll like it better vs wasting energy swatting away flies. Chow was the first brunch stop we made in Portland, and the feel-good Bob Marley welcome sign was a great first impression. Chow is a home-y space with a open-window cabin feel. Our server was an extremely polite white kid, and he totally OK'd my yelp 2 free coffees! The service here is some of the best we received. There are enough tables indoors to seat parties larger than 6, and even spacious enough for strollers. We came on a weekday morning and although waited for about 20 minutes (WOW THIS PLACE IS POPULAR), were happy with our full stomachs. I loved their housemade fries, which are the most delicious crunchy golden potato wedge/fries you'll ever have! We enjoyed their traditional breakfast items that utilized farm-to-table style and fresh ingredients. You can tell that the chefs and food prep use local and delicious basics--that was a welcoming feeling! As an out of towner, I'd definitely come back here again. Before I moved, my hubs and I went here at least once a month - sometimes twice a month for breakfast. That was a lot for us considering we cook most of own meals. I always ordered the same dish b/c it really was THAT good - Eggs ala Med, sub tofu for eggs, and order an extra side of tofu to go. The person that wrote the roasted pepper hollandaise was bland, prob drank too much the night before and screwed up their tastebuds b/c I have eaten this dish at least a dozen times and that hollandaise was always perfect the way it was - no need to add anything to it. In fact the the components always came together quite perfectly. These chefs know how to make a everything nice!! Miss you Chow. It was outstanding. Decadent homemade bread, perfectly poached eggs, amazing ham, and most importantly a cooked to perfection hollandaise. There was a garnish i did not think was needed, so I picked it off. It was served with crispy potatoes and the coffee was good. Came here on a weekday for brunch while we were in town and waited about 10 minutes for a seat. From what I saw they had a ton of outside seating and inside seating was available to some people, but it's super small inside so that just seems like a bad idea. We both had the "Vinny" which is basically eggs benedict. I got bacon and cheddar grits. Having not grown up in the south, I can't really tell you whether or not the grits were quality, but I liked them! The bread for the eggs benedict was definitely fresh bread and I liked that. My boyfriend got the taters with his, and he said his benedict was pretty bland. I found it to be fine. If we're in town I'll definitely go here again and maybe try a bloody mary. I did find it a little overpriced (we paid $45 for two meals and two coffees, with a 20% tip) just for brunch, but nobody ever said Bend was a cheap place to be, especially with the resort nearby. read more

The staff here was so incredibly rude that we will never be returning. My husband and I were waiting for a table and sitting outside on the patio until our table was ready inside. I politely asked a server behind the bar if we could have two drip coffees while we waited for our table. I said, " I know that you are probably pretty busy, but we were wondering if we could have a couple coffees while we wait." His response was, "I just got 5 tables seated and need to make them all drinks because we have no bartender, so No." I told him, "Ok, no worries", and went back outside to wait. A couple minutes later, I hear him and another server in the bar area talking about how we asked for coffees and how he denied us, laughing about it and mimicking in very condescending voices..."I know that you are busy but..." After working in the service industry for many years, I would never have treated a customer who was polite and considerate in that fashion. That is unnecessary and childish. I will definitely be making sure that I never recommend this restaurant to any of our Bend friends and family.
