We've only visited the lounge in Chops for appetizers, drinks and live music. All the appetizers I've tried are delicious.
We decided to have dinner in the restaurant tonight. We both started with shitake mushroom soup. It was excellent. Light, creamy and it almost tasted as though it had chopped turnips or collard greens. The soup did have some chopped green stuff in it, but i forgot to ask the waiter what it was.
I ordered the salmon with risotto and W ordered the steak. I don't eat beef, pork or duck, so the only menu items I could choose from the menu were salmon and the roasted squash. When I spend over $30 on a meal, I prefer that it be something that I can't easily cook at home, so I was disappointed with the one fish and vegetarian choices. I will say that my salmon was cooked to perfection (although I can cook salmon perfectly at home), but they plated it with quinoa instead of risotto. The main thing I was looking forward to was the risotto, so I wasn't happy. I told the waiter about the mistake and he told me that the risotto was not ready, but that he could take my plate and replace it when it was ready. I was a little frustrated that I wasn't able to eat at the same time as W, but I have tried my best to be patient today, which is something that doesn't come easily to me when I have one encounter after another with dumb people, but I digress.
I also wonder if the chef just put the quinoa on my plate instead of the risotto since it wasn't ready. If that is the case, it is totally unacceptable. I just can't imagine making that mistake.
SO, my new plate with my old salmon was delivered about 10 minutes later with risotto instead of quinoa. The risotto was delicious, so I was happy.
W thought his steak was perfect, but he was served cubed potatoes, instead of the mashed potatoes listed on the menu. He just accepted his plate as it was though.
Our server was very attentive and understanding, so I don't blame him for the mistakes. The food could be more creative, but it is delicious.
Although the server apologized for the mistake with the quinoa, in most upscale restaurants the manager would personally apologize and offer a dessert or drink to compensate for the time I wasn't able to eat with my husband and the inconvenience of having to have a mistake corrected. At the very least a fresh piece of salmon should have been plated with the new risotto because who wants cold salmon on hot risotto? None of those things happened.
W still thinks we should return for dinner again, but I think we should stick to the lounge food and the music. The lounge appetizers are creative, delicious and reasonably priced. read more
