A friend and I decided to drop in and see if all the great reviews would stand up on a Tuesday night. We couldn't have been happier! Drew, who was the only bartender/server/general manager was so warm and welcoming and Gary, the chef, was just as fabulous with his take on crab cakes, halibut and panna cota. Everything was simply delicious. ( I sent pics back to my partner who wasn't with us) The crab croquetes were crispy yet so delicate inside with a hint of spice that left your palate singing! The halibut with beautiful orzo and vegetables was divine....perfectly cooked with a little crunch and a body of the fish so moist and tender. We couldn't stop saying yum! Since everything was so good, we decided to split dessert: The passionfruit Panna Cota was the perfect tartness to the smooth custard like body. I came here with my mom for my birthday dinner. I haven't been here in years but oh my goodness! EVERYTHING was amazing. I had the rib eye which was cooked a perfect med rare, everything was seasoned just right, my mom got the shrimp pasta which was fantastic. The pasta was fresh too which always makes it so much better. But the best part was our server Joe. He's very attentive, informative and polite! Couldn't have asked for a better evening. read more

We ate here this past weekend and found it very pleasant. The food was excellent, with me having a superb black bean soup, followed by a really excellent burger. My wife had a Caesar salad which was very slightly marred by croutons that were more like stale bread, but the salad itself was good, and then she had a flat iron steak, which was really good. The only thing that kind of let the place down was the selection of beers, and mostly the fact that what beer they did have was in cans only. Central Oregon has so much in the way of absolutely world class beer that it comes as a shock to not have much of a selection. A minor point, but a point non the less. The staff were all super friendly, and service generally was great. We'll be back. read more

Will be returning on our next visit to Sisters! I was staying overnight the other night in Sisters. I've driven by Chops Bistro a few titmes when we visited Bend when Chops was in their out-of-town location. I called to make a reservation w/ the new silly covid-rules in place. Got my reservation. Got there at 7:30 and was told if I wanted a table outside, one would be opening in a few minutes. I was happy to wait. I went to the bar and ordered a Margarita. Very nice bartender. He said I could just add the drink to my food tab when I got to the table. There was a guitar player singing and playing w/ about 3 or 4 people in the room. Two older gals were enjoying the music and invited me over. I sat on the other couch and we chatted. Lovely lovely ladies and residents of the town. Great ambassadors for Sisters! My table was ready and I hated to depart but learned the kitchen closes at 8 pm. Yikes! Had I known I would have come in sooner. There was no pressure to rush my dining experience (just to place an order so the kitchen could get ready for closing). The waiter was very nice. He told me the specials of the day and I asked about the crab cakes. I wasn't super hungry so I ordered the amazing tomato bisque soup and crab cakes. I had a second margarita and enjoyed the pleasant weather this unusually cool July evening. The food prices are very fair. Chops Bistro was great food and fantastic service. This is probably the nicest restaurant in Sisters. Our waitress made conversation, brought us extra drinks to taste and recommended their favorite drinks, meals, and desserts. She really made us feel at home. The appetizers were delightful from bang bang shrimp to crab cakes to caprese salad. Just when we thought we were full, we were offered key lime pie, cheese cake, and chocolate mousse cake. I hate submitting bad reviews (and love to submit great ones!), but this one has to be done. I had a bad feeling when I called to make a reservation (didn't know if I needed one for 5:30 on a Thursday) but the woman who answered the phone was very short with me and talked to me like I was an idiot for asking. My friend's drink order was a mess, instead of telling her they didn't carry Captain Morgan rum when she ordered a Captain Morgan rum and coke, they gave her something else (she couldn't drink it), We ordered the pork belly appetizer and they were out of it (at 5:30 and just opened for dinner!) then our waitress had it on our bill and never apologized for it. Made excuses for it and blamed it on the computer. Most disappointing was my meal. For $48 my "duck breast" was on overcooked TWO SLICES of duck breast. Biggest rip off of the century. I waited 20 minutes for it. The final nail in the coffin was when I asked to get a box (it really wasn't good enough to eat) they actually brought me a box like I was in a brewpub instead of this overpriced expensive restaurant. Very poor way to end this experience. Sadly we've enjoyed going to this location for years to celebrate anniversary's etc. I was very embarrassed to bring friends here because we turned down the Tumalo Feed Company to go here instead, based on my recommendation. read more

What a great place for dinner! We tried this bistro Friday night and it was quite a treat. The dining area is very comfortable and quiet, wonderful for conversation and for lingering over a delicious meal. My husband had the filet mignon ("Best I've ever had... like butter"), and I ordered the halibut, possibly the best I've ever had. Both meals showcased the food, not heavy spices or overwhelming sauces. The mildly lemony sauce with my fish, risoto, spinach and tomatoes was a delicious background to the well thought-out food pairing. I chose a pinot grigio to go with it, but was concerned at the cost ($9 per glass). A bit too reasonable/poor quality? But it was smooth, fragrant, delicious! Later our server stopped to ask how I liked the wine and talked about the small Oregon vineyard it comes from. Our server also offered a few dessert selections when we had finished and we tried the cheesecake. Again, a smooth, creamy hit with both of us. This isn't a fast food place; wait staff won't be passing by your table every few minutes. But if you're looking for a dining experience where you can take your time, visit with companions in a relaxed, calm atmosphere without shouting, where your meal selection will give you various tastes and textures all complimenting each other, this could be right for you. For context, I've been in the restaurant business for over 30 years, many as a waiter. We ate at Chops House last week for my daughter's birthday and were completely underwhelmed. Even though we were the only table in the entire restaurant we had bad service from the beginning to the end. We saw our waitress(owner?) exactly twice. Once to take our order and once to bring the check with a great big smile. We could hear her in the bar chatting it up with the bar crowd but she never came back until the check was due. A busser sat us, brought us our dinners with a "Who gets what?" and never checked back to see if we needed anything else. The food was good but certainly not good enough to warrant going back again. We felt like we were more of a nuisance than a guest and maybe this can be a wake-up call that all people matter. read more

Sat in the bar and ordered the "1/2 a chicken" main course, and was told shortly after ordering is they "are out of the 1/2 chickens and would a breast be okay?" I kept with my order, and when my dish came, it was 1/2 a chicken, but another server took it away immediately. Minutes later my "one chicken breast" came, and by comparison it was a lot less chicken! So I guess I'm not important enough for what they offer on their menu, and was charged $25 for a dry chicken breast, some mushrooms and broth. Disappointing. read more

What a fantastic find! The restaurant dining side is beautifully furnished. Very cozy and warm. Fantastic architecture. And the food and wine list are beyond great! Service was friendly and accommodating. I was surprised at the wine selection, especially for such a small little community. Don't believe the story of the local Sisters Macdonalds turning away the firefighters. McD's has been prepping 100s of meals for the firefighters throughout the entire fire season all with a pandemic short staff and often for free. This group was a contract fire crew and responsible for their own food. Together with their girlfriends and other non-emergency friends they didn't want to wait for McD's and instead hit up Chops. One of the girlfriend's posted on social media that they were turned way from McD's which was a total lie! After it went viral, she fessed up, apologized and the crew was reprimanded for trying to get free meals. And what are working fire personnel hanging out at fire camps and getting free meals with their girlfriends and other buddies all on the taxpayers dime? In typical internet mob think, the innocent McD's staff received death threats and several quit out of fear. This is the most elegant upscale restaurant in Sisters. We enjoy it for special occasions. Pricing is on the high end of moderate, but not off the chart. We had scallops wrapped in bacon appetizer and it was nicely done. I had the short ribs and my wife had the duck breast. Both cooked well. It is fairly small, and open limited hours, so definitely get reservations for the dining room. Less formal is the bar. With music on weekends. Prices and selections are somewhat less, but a nice place for a drink and a little something to eat. read more

Sadly they were short on help so that's how it started. The food was ok and too oily so for the price it was not worth it. The wine we selected was very nice and dessert was good. The dining room was the best part of the meal. Our friends with us had been there before and enjoyed it but were disappointed also. They have been back since then and said it wasn't any better. We sat at the bar had a few drinks- started off fine but then Drew was talking to several tables all about bourbon- his first love obviously- talking excessively to regulars while we waited. We decided on a few light bites including the soup and asked for bread. It was pretty obvious Drew didn't like that we didn't order any main entrees and proceeded to tell us bread was only for the dining room but he would make an exception for us and put it into the oven that wasn't on according to him. We would've been fine without but he said he put it into the oven. He poured the end of a Weller into two glasses called a patron up into the back room and they both had a shot of the Weller- if you have to hide in a back room i'm pretty sure that's against policy. Drew mentioned the bread twice more and then finally told us the chef burned it twice and there wouldn't be any bread- seriously just own up to the fact that you didn't do it and didn't want to do it. He told the couple next to us they were out of wedge salads- (even though they had only been open an hour) told another party the dining room was closed even though they had reservations- Drew was an absolute MESS- A place that allows this behavior shouldn't even be open. We left with our 60$ bill and dissatisfaction. Got back home a few days later and lo and behold our bill that was 60 has now turned into $132 on our CC. This restaurant clearly has a management problem. Plenty of other great options in Sisters. read more

Celebration of 29 years anniversary here. Servings of Baramundi ( like chilean sea bass) over gnocchi and asparagus paired with a light red. Perfect combination. Excellent prep. 6 of us ate at this restaurant last night. I alone was quite disappointed with the exception. I ordered the steak and the cut was good but I ordered it medium rare and it came medium. Disappointed. What was more upsetting about this upscale restaurant was is that the waiter never came while we ate the main course and asked how our dinners were and only came to ask if we wanted dessert. The food was... Not bad. The wait person was personable, friendly, and unable to help the fact that... The wait between ordering and arrival of the food was over an hour. WELL over. Yes, it's Friday. Nope, the joint was NOT jumping. Yep, they had trouble in the kitchen (something about a missing (sous?) chef). Still: One steak medium rare and one Ono cooked BARELY past sashimi and some nice veggies shouldn't take THAT long. We also noticed that the table seated after us was served before us. And the one seated after THEM was served before us. And the one seated after THAT table was served before us. We also noticed one couple walk out after "only" about 20 minutes waiting for their BREAD PLATE to show up (I didn't really time how long they were there, so it might have been 15 or 30 minutes). The bread plate? A couple of rolls that we think were Kings Hawaiian, warmed up and "spiffed" with some sesame seeds. It was "nice" but it wasn't fresh. The steak? Quite good. With a nice house-made remoulade mostly green herbs. Good green beans cooked just enough. Good fingerling potatoes cut in half and baked crispy. The price: around $30 The Ono? It was sushi grade, which is a damn good thing since it wasn't even... quite... warm in the middle (this is close to how it should be served). Good asparagus, cooked just right with a hint of mild, pleasant sauce. A scoop of sticky white rice with NOTHING to put on it. A tablespoon of "ponzu" sauce that tasted exactly like Kikkoman soy sauce, served on the side. The price: Around $40 The wine. One glass of decent Côte du Rhone: about $10 One class of a California white blend (not bad): about $10. And dessert, which was NOT comped despite our long wait: Cheesecake, pretty clearly from a good commercial bakery, with a drizzle of (citrus?) syrup and a dollop of whipped cream. $8 I was SORELY tempted to walk out after about 30 minutes of waiting and go see if Rancho Viejo or Sisters Saloon were open and seating guests. We'd have eaten sooner, a lot less expensively... and not _quite_ as good. read more

My husband and I were in town for business and read the great reviews. The good, the place smells wonderful but we never got the chance to try anything. The bad, on a Thursday night the very rude hostess told that there were 3 reservations in front of us (there were at least 8 empty tables) so she couldn't help us. She said that their might be something in the lounge but probably not (even though it was less than half full). Very unwelcoming. Not sure what her problem was but the owner should probably re-evaluate whom he had welcoming guests. I had to add to my review. While we were dining at a very welcoming restaurant down the road we overheard a gentleman sitting across from us tell the waitress that he had tried Chops first and felt a weird vibe, the hostess didn't want to seat him and the bartender acted like he was put out that he had to serve full meals in the lounge. We had a very poor experience at Chops Bistro. After being cooped up by Covid for a couple of years we decided to go to Chops to celebrate our 44th anniversary. We had a reservation and were seated quickly. They took our order and, other than quick drive-by comments saying, "it will be out soon", we waited 2 hours for our order to arrive. We both ordered $52 entrees. The steak was dry and cold. Warm broccolini was draped over a stack of cold mashed potatoes. Poor service and bad food was a very disappointing combo for our anniversary. read more

Okay, listen. I am not a fan of writing reviews but, If you go here ask for Stacy, she is exactly what a service person should be. She is warm, charming, engaging and without a drop of smugness. I worked in the restaurant industry for 20+ years and she is everything that is great about working that job. If her employer does not hold on to her and pay her better they are either a fool or ignorant. The food? The food was fine, nothing to write home about but still fine, it's Sisters (no offense). After all you are not expecting Michelin 3 star places to eat there, even though that would be nice. Hell, 1 star would be nice! My point is, the server deserves the praise. She is new to the job as she is an RN working 2 jobs, and she is, in my opinion, doing the best job there. The "main" guy after standing inside the doorway for at least two minutes asked us, "can I help you with something" (think about that for second, not hello, welcome, hi, what's up) I said, we would like to eat here. He replied, do you have a reservation? Not, excellent, or fine or....let's see what we can do, by the way, do you have a reservation? At this point Stacy took over and was a charm throughout our dinning experience. Also, if you are wondering, I told them before we left that she did a fantastic job and she should own the place. Also that she should teach all the other servers to be as genuine as her. I really don't gush over people or places (read my reviews if you want, I don't care) but this lady deserves some kind words. Wow, what an unbelievably poor experience, from the service to the shoe-leather steak and sand-dry halibut, that was delivered to our table. The first sign to retreat should have been when our party of four was seated with only 2-menus. The second sign to leave should have been when we waited 20 minutes for a server to even acknowledge that we had been seated and might like drinks. Did I mention that this was a Monday night, in mid December, with only 4-tables seated? Not a Friday night rush here!! Well, our appetite was sure to be quelled by the 4 small dinner roles, accompanied by a 2-gram pat of butter, that must have surely been reminiscent of the most recent Hunger Games. I ordered the rib eye ($52), that arrived as a thin, tasteless, overcooked piece of shoe leather. It was literally inedible. My wife's halibut was dry and overcooked; while my daughter's filet was without a bit of moisture or flavor. I could see her taste buds drying up and dying with every effort at a bite. Fortunately, my other daughter enjoyed the braised short ribs, the only edible food derived to our table. We sent back 2:4 meals, and will not be returning to this disappointing venue again. There is so much good food in Central Oregon, Chops is not one of those places. Save your well earned money, drive to Bend, and enjoy a real meal at Zydeco, the Brick house, or Ariana's. read more

Great find in Central Oregon! We walked in without a reservation with the expectation we would be eating in the bar area. The owner recommended we have cocktails and an appetizer in the bar and she would seat us in the dining area when a table became available. The bar-was wonderful! Great selection of classic cocktails. My husband's gin martini was perfect (shaken, hint of vermouth and a lemon twist). I had the Bee's Knees, a classic gin and lemon juice cocktail. It was tasty! We ordered the Oregon wild mushroom dip. By the time are appetizer arrived, our table was ready. We finished our cocktails and appetizer to proceed to the dining room. The menu had a great selection...one of those menus where you have trouble making a selection. My husband and I both selected the beef fillet with fingerling potatoes. Our steaks where cooked perfectly to each of our preferences. I like a medium with a warm pink center. The potatoes where very tasty with an appropriate use of spices. On a side note, you could tell the potatoes had a hint of cinnamon. For dessert, we chose the fresh cherry cobbler. Yum! And French Pressed coffee! As a side note, they serve fresh sushi in the bar area. Every one was raving and the dishes looked beautiful! read more

For the price, this place does not stack up. It has the appearance of a more high end dining experience but that is not what you will get. First the lighting is quite romantic and intimate but the kitchen is so loud and the music coming from the kitchen is inappropriate for a place trying to create a high end and romantic setting. Secondly the staff was nice enough but they did little to make the experience feel worth the price. You would expect staff dressed well and ready to attend to your needs. Sadly this is not quite the what you will find. You will find polite servers but they again fail to make you feel welcome and worthy of paying well over $100 for the experience. Lastly the food was not up to snuff. There was very minimal seasoning and very basic flavor that honestly could be replicated by any well meaning home cook. Additionally there were shells in the crab cakes we received which was unacceptable for the price. Overall the food was average, the service was average and the ambience was possibly below average. Sadly the price tag is not average and you should expect to pay well over $100 for something worth more like $40-50. If they were charging less I would be much less critical of them. My friend and I chanced a visit to this bistro without knowing anything about it. We were pleasantly surprised. The ambience is tastefully done in simple elegance with a roaring fireplace, white table cloths and mood relaxing music playing in the background. The staff is very attentive and charming. Now to the food, the main attraction. I had the crispy duck, asparagus and butternut squash. The duck was cooked to perfection, med rare, tender and juicy with the accompaniment of the aforementioned vegetables which complemented each other well. My friend had the boar dinner from which I got to sample and found as remarkable as my duck. I forgot to mention the baked brie with pears that started us off. Overall, our adventure to this "new to us" place was a great find and I would recommend to fellow adventurers/foodies. We will be back! read more
