Flat iron steak with chimmuchuri. OK, but definitely will visit again and check out other menu items. Beautiful setting!

As someone with food allergies, it's VERY important I feel confident that I will not be served food which I cannot tolerate. I always let the server know of my allery to dairy and usually am able to still enjoy eating out. This was not the case here, so I'll be quite leery about going back.

As of early July 2024, their menu is basically hamburgers and hot dogs. Such a shame, it has a wonderful view.

Unforgettable Off-Grid Catering & Incredible Food!…read more We hired Jackson Higdon and the team at Luckey's Woodsman for our party at the Sandkulla Family Farm on July 18th, and we could not be more thrilled with how everything turned out! From our initial planning conversations to the day of the event, Jackson was an absolute pleasure to work with--bringing great energy, clear communication, and incredible culinary craftsmanship.  The absolute star of the event was the full smoked pig roast--it was beyond amazingly delicious, incredibly tender, and packed with flavor. Jackson cooked it overnight, outside, on our farm! Jackson also provided pulled jackfruit so our vegetarian guests didn't miss out, along with fantastic sides like his smoked mac and cheese, street corn, potato salad, and fresh watermelon. Before the main course, his team put out a stunning spread of appetizers, including caprese bites, smoked melon mosaic, and artisanal grazing boards that set the perfect tone for the evening. Jackson was a total pleasure to work with from start to finish--professional, easygoing, and a master at his craft. If you need top-tier catering in Central Oregon, hire Jackson and Luckey's Woodsman! He took all the stress off our hands and delivered an unforgettable dining experience for our family and friends. We cannot wait to work with him again!

Tender, not gamey, cooked for 5 plus hours until so beautifully rendered I would swear they coaxed fat out of it that doesn't exist. Sauces were delicious, especially the horseradish. The duck fat fries and watermelon salad were also winners. I was worried about ordering oysters this far from the ocean but whoever they are sourcing from did a great job. Delicious. The staff was friendly and personable, and the menu looked promising. We ordered the steamed mussels, beet salad, McArthur burger, and wild mushrooms. The burger was probably the highlight of the meal. Mine was a little more done than I prefer, but it was still very good. The beet salad was enjoyable, though not particularly memorable. The mussels were okay, but several were chewier than I'd expect. The biggest disappointment was the wild mushrooms. I was expecting something that would showcase the variety and flavor of wild mushrooms. Instead, the texture and taste reminded me of the canned mushrooms I grew up eating as a kid. Nothing was bad, but nothing really stood out either. We passed on dessert and left feeling a little underwhelmed given the prices and the setting. Would we come back? Probably not. In fact, when we were deciding where to eat the following night with friends, we suggested Three Creeks Brewing instead. If you found this review helpful, give it a like so it can help others too.

Between the exceptionally good food at Hook and Plow, a most pleasant hotel experience, and a memorable trip to the High Desert Museum; our trip to Bend turned out to be a pleasure instead of the miserableness I expected. We had the Steak Tartare, the Chef's Board, the Blackend Crabcake, the Pear and Burrata Salad, and the Bone-in Pork Chop. We each got the cheesecake for desert and split the other dishes. This was more than enough for the three of us and we left full, happy, and with three large to-go boxes. The flavors of the various dishes were amazing. While all the dishes were vvery good, the standouts to me were the steak Tartare, the Pear and Burrata Salad, and the Cheesecake.

We were greeted by the host and seated quickly. We started our meal with a delicious non-alcoholic drink and the Chef's Board: a charcuterie with an assortment of cured meats, rustic bread, and various spreads. That came out pretty quickly. Unfortunately, our main courses came out much, much later and lukewarm. Luckily, the food was good enough that it made up for the temperature. I had the NY strip steak. The steak and the Boursin mashed potatoes alone were very good. The pickled onions and chimichurri complemented the meat very well. The meal was supposed to include brussel sprouts but came with a grilled broccoli cauliflower assortment instead. My wife had the Scallop Risotto which was also a great recommendation from the server. In reality, The Hook & Plow deserved 3 1/2 stars but that's not an option on Yelp. It may have been an off night for the staff, so I will give them the benefit of doubt. We would be open to trying it again sometime in the future.

We don't go to the Open Door much now. Old review. A real romantic spot. Great drinks. My wife loves it. Sitting outside is best but the bar is good too. Some nights they put tables in the art gallery out front and you sit around the paintings and jewelry, kind of fun. There used to be a waitress named Kristen or Kirsten, a lady with long hair and clogs, the best server I've ever had and I don't just mean in Central Oregon. The Open Door is the probably the best dining experience in Sisters. Living in Tumalo and working throughout Oregon, I go to Sisters often. Unfortunately Sisters isn't a great town for food. The Open Door has some very-good food, and some pretty-good food. You never know which it's going to be. The halibut, meatballs, and lasagnas are solid. Berries and cream dessert is great. The menu doesn't change much over the years. If my wife didn't love it I wouldn't go back so often. Get bored eating the same dishes over and over. When my brother and his grown kids visit they like the atmosphere, especially those small houses outside with the plants. However they have trouble finding a selection that works for their way of eating, allergies, one is vegan and one is lactose intolerant.

When I asked a friend about it later, he said he and his wife go there for dinner but had never been at lunch time. My buddy ordered the Grinder (essentially an Italian) and I ordered the Beef Sando (essentially their take on a French Dip). My buddy, who self-admittedly doesn't like focaccia, said the bread was awesome and sando in general really good. We both really enjoyed the fries, that were well seasoned in a savory and slightly sweet dusting. The abundance of fries was well appreciated as well. The beef sando was tasty and also a good portion. My only complaint was the thinly shaved beef was laid flat in layers instead of mounded on the sandwich (see pic). I hesitate to even say this, but it felt like I was eating Steak-umm. In general, the meal was good and filling. The service was good and value for price felt good.

So if you're hankering for the mac n cheese or shrimp n grits or veg burger or any of the menu items, after today they are history. I started eating at The Drake in their first week of business and had many, many, many meals there over the years but things change and so, it seems, has the popularity of The Drake. Now the good news. The new owners are a trio and one of them is also one of the owners of the inestimable Ken's Artisan Pizza in Portland that opened its' Bend location last year. (Go! Even if you have to stand in line for 45 minutes like I did.) The first news of this ownership change was that they would keep the name and current focus of The Drake. But local television news reports that after The Drake closes today it will be reimagined with a new name and design and menu. The opening for the new place is currently said to be Memorial Day weekend. I don't live in Bend anymore but there is still a family home there and so I visit on occasion and knowing a "Ken's" owner is involved in the new enterprise may make me brave the wicked-bad downtown parking to try this new place. In the meantime, I remember how fun and delicious it could be to eat at The Drake.

I wasn't expecting to find southern comfort food in Bend, OR, but Zydeco is truly exceptional! My partner and I arrived early and started with drinks at the bar. Hostesses were kind enough to seat us as soon as a table became available, which was well ahead of our reservation time. Our server was a little odd, but quirky isn't necessarily a bad thing. Just a little strange when they ask whether you're ready for the goodies. Our goodies included the bone marrow as an appetizer and for entrees, the jambalaya and redfish. My partner loved the bone marrow, but it was a little too much for me. I wasn't a fan of the texture, but the presentation was nice. The showstopper for me was the jambalaya. I've never had something so tasty that kept me coming back for more! It wasn't overwhelmingly spicy and it had a good mix of seafood and sausage.
