Oh Choco le'a! Hubby and I absolutely LOVE Choco le'a. We have been members for 8 months now and just can't get enough of their high quality chocolates. Choco le'a stocks a variety of different truffle flavors and also has rotating specials. We have tried so many and have never been disappointed! Some of our favorites include haupia (rotating special), Yamasaki, Nikka, Dom Perignon, Yuzu, Lychee...basically everything we have tried (over 20 flavors). But the truffles are not even the best part! On Saturdays, they have "sipping" chocolate. It should be called "chugging" chocolate, because that is what we want to do when we have it. It can also be taken to go (comes in a 3 oz styrofoam cup and some potato chips), and saved for later. We sometimes use it for dipping strawberries, waffles, waffle cones, fingers, etc. We also LOVE the chocolate covered oreos. They make all the limited flavors like Red Velvet, Filled Cupcake, Mint, Birthday Cake, Pumpkin, and then cover them in a generous portion of chocolate. We can't get enough. They often times have tasting specials, or deals for tshirts or bags if you buy enough. During all the special occasions like girls day, valentines day, Christmas, Chinese new years they have special pre order boxes of limited flavors. They also sell their products at Neiman Marcus and Moana Surfrider, mainly because the Japanese Tourist LOVE them, but visiting the shop is really the best place to buy them because their staff is so awesome and the selection is so great. The boutique is so cute and all the girls are always so friendly! Keep in mind their hours as they are not open everyday. Street parking or limited parking in the lot. I've never tried this place, only because I figured it would be just another "here today-gone tomorrow" chocolate shop. But, lucky for me (!!!) I was a recipient of a box of their dark chocolate truffles and realized that I had been missing out on some truly artisan chocolates! Just the care in the way these petite gastro-phemons (didn't want to just say "gems" for these little works of art) are packed shows that these chocolatiers love what they do. The creative combinations of delicate truffle fillings and silky dark chocolate shells complimented each other perfectly. (These folks are so good at their craft that they can make matcha work with chocolate!) It's worth a trip to Chocole'a! I'm sure that they have a truffle flavor for you. Dammit Choco Le'a! You're going to be the reason why I can't achieve my New Year resolution of losing weight ): We buy chocolates from here on a weekly basis, sometimes even twice a week!! It's THAT good. Oh, and shall I add that I'm not a sweets type of person? I'm not a fan of chocolate, but ever since I ate chocolate from here, I have converted. Choco Le'a has seriously accomplished converting me from non-chocolate believer to a chocolate-fanatic. Anyway, we always get Mochi, Cookies N Cream, and Cayenne Pepper. We tried the beer, sriracha, cheesecake, but the first three will always be my faveee. Mochi - If you don't come early enough, it'll be gone and that explains how good it is. Idk how they do it without making the mochi hard. Even after I refrigerate it, its still good! The crunchy chocolate plus the softness of the mochi pairs so perfectly together. Cookies N Cream - There's a soft + crunchy interior that's really interesting. The texture is what gets me. Oh and the flavor too (; Cayenne Pepper - Chocolate + Spices = BOMB.COM. Service is super!! Mmmmm, so good! The chocolate is fab and the service is even more fab! Arrived here the other Saturday with my kids just before opening. When the worker came out to open up, she cheerfully greeted and welcomed us and offered us a sample. On Saturdays, they offer hot sipping chocolate (think: melted dark chocolate bar). I had a sample taste of it and it was SOOOOO good but at 10am, couldn't think to order a full cup. But they offer it to go, so maybe next time! They have a wide variety of chocolate truffles, chocolate covered oreos and more. I'll definitely be back to experience both the chocolate and 1st rate customer service. I was fortunate enough to receive a cooler bag full of goodies as a birthday gift! So this review is solely for the taste and presentation, after leaving the shop. I received my treats in a beautiful copper cooler bag with their logo on it. Perfect to keep perishable chocolate goods cool. Started of my tasting with their classic chocolate-covered Oreo. This thing was huge! They don't skimp on chocolate. Next, I had a box of two delectable truffles. Looked that the guide of truffle flavors, and boy, I don't think you could go wrong with any of them! Such creative flavors, such as lilikoi and cookies & cream! One of my truffles had sprinkles and tasted like birthday cake, and the other was good but I couldn't match the design with what flavor it was. These truffles are the best I've had! I believe these were dark chocolate too! Dark chocolate is good for you, right?! I felt somewhat better about my not-so-healthy-but-so-worth-it (or moment on the lips, forever on the hips) decision to eat both in one sitting. Crunch-a-le'a is their version of a fancier and tastier Rice Krispies treat! Cocoa, peanut butter, marshmallows, rice krispies, mac nuts, sea salt. Trust me-- you won't be disappointed. OMG, fancy chocolates! okay, I am a self-professed chocolate snob. I'm one of the few that can actually eat unsweetened chocolate. "the darker the better", I say. that said, Choco le'a is the best chocolate I've had in Hawaii! they are pricy, but you know, you get what you pay for. You can buy and eat just one truffle and be satisfied, unlike some lesser quality chocolates loaded with sugar and cream that just don't cut it and you feel like you have to eat a pound before you're happy. I visited Choco le'a on a Saturday afternoon and there was a lot of street parking right in front and across the street from the shop. there were a couple of other people in there, but the wait for service wasn't long at all. I purchased a $20 9-piece box with different truffles (you pick them out yourself). it was enough to share with my mom and brother for a couple of days. the truffles are amazing! they're smooth and melt in your mouth beautifully! every flavor was delightful. my favorite was the Kona Coffee: not a strong coffee flavor, but a very deep and dark chocolate. I highly recommend this shop if you're looking for a special gift for a chocolate lover. i'll definitely come back for the sipping chocolate (comes with potato chips)! read more

This chocolate is delicious! It's a little pricey but worth it. It's tucked away in Manoa Valley inside a small building. They give free samples and put your order inside a nice box. It's perfect for gifts. My favorite ones were Triple Chocolate, Coconut, Caramel with Hawaiian Sea Salt, and Butterscotch Liquor. I recommend going there ASAP. read more

For most of my life I have always been a vanilla type of gal. Actually, I still prefer vanilla over chocolate any day. Unless of course it's Choco le`a truffles. I first tasted them last summer when a friend had them as favors for her wedding. I remember getting a box of samples and even though I'm not a "chocolate person", I'm always down to trying new things. I took the chocolates home, split each one into four little pieces to share with my hubby and kids. Upon taking the first nibble, I quickly realized that these truffles are NOT for sharing. Needless to say we all enjoyed the treats. Today, I am happy Club Choco le`a member. I look forward to my monthly box of chocolates. So what makes them so great? The fact that they just taste great, better than any other chocolate that I've tasted before. I've never had chocolate before that kept me wanting more, I dream about these tasty chocolate treats. I decided to check this place out since I've been craving chocolates. My número Uno chocolate in the world are Teuscher Champagne truffles which are Swiss chocolate but this place is pretty good too. Most worth it in Hawaii in my opinion. I love Padovani's as well. But the quality for the price is great! And they have a different menu every time. They have a set in Neiman Marcus but the ones in the shop are different. They keep up with seasons and holidays! Pretty cool. The owner was super nice. What is better than wine and chocolate? Wine truffles! I received this as a gift last Christmas with chocolate-dipped Oreos and had to keep in touch with the vendor for MORE chocolate. I have tried the lychee liqueur, haskap (berry/fruit) limited edition from japan, cookie butter, caramel with alae Hawaiian sea salt, lilikoi... OMG, I have a problem, obviously. However, it helps me feel better that there are no artificial colors or preservatives and they use organic ingredients! I really LOVED the caramel with the alae as well as the WINE truffle, but I'll take any flavor at any time. I am the kinda girl that I ALWAYS orders dessert with chocolate after dinner no matter how full I am. This business is growing fast (sad for me, good for you), but the customer service is still outstanding with business booming. The entire staff is top notch, they cater special events and they will meet you at your place of choice to drop off your special order for your occasion. I just checked the website and I see that they also do charity work too. So nice that people give back. I have been putting together my Christmas list - perfect for a boss, in-laws, or party favors for a showers, parties or thank yous. I love small businesses like this place! Super friendly and helpful staff who also take pride in what they do. I love the chocolates they offer here, there's a lot of unique chocolate concoctions that you probably wouldn't find elsewhere. Ever heard of chocolate dipped jabong? I sure haven't, but it was amazing. They've also got chocolate dipped mango and pineapple too, perfect for omiyage. They were also very reasonably priced for the fruits. I loved their chocolate truffles as well. I ended up with a 9 pack, I love that they let you customize them too so I could add some of the seasonal flavors to my box. My personal favorites were probably the yuzu, lychee liquor, and the PB&J. What's nice is some of the flavors focus more on the chocolate rather than the filling, like their Kona Coffee. The yuzu also has just enough to not be mostly yuzu, but a nice balance of chocolate too. Choco le'a really has some great chocolates to offer. I love the sheer variety of things they have for such a tiny shop. They seem always be pushing the envelope of flavors too, quite a bit of the flavors were seasonal. I first 'met' Erin the owner at a UH entrepreneur speaker series. Boy is she totally lovable. She was very candid about her journey from an elementary school teacher to full fledge owner of a company that supplies premium treats to high end hotels and maintains a beautiful shop that is highly rated on Yelp. She described her bumps in the road in hilarious ways that allowed the audience to empathize with her. But it's the chocolates-delicate, rich, hand crafted truffles that will blow your mind. The most important ingredient is LOVE-it's evident everything in the store was created with the freshest and best items available and made with a ton of care. They have a head spinning variety to chose from so of course you'll have to return again and again to try them all. and SIPPING CHOCOLATE. On Saturdays you can come in for a cup of chocolate. Don't get confused, it's not hot chocolate. Yes it is hot and it is chocolate but imagine you scooped out a mug of chocolate from a chocolate fountain. But imagine this is the richest, full flavored chocolate ever. And it comes in a cup. With a side of potato chips. I had the happiest chocolate mustache sprinkled with salt crumbs by the end. Feel free to add to the experience by enjoying it on the comfy couch next to window enjoying the beauty of Manoa...or outside on the pretty seating area. They are located in Manoa across Manoa Mart gas station, in an ADORABLE little shop with a mini white picket fence. Whenever I visit, I have the hardest time deciding which flavors to purchase, and the staff have always helped me to build amazing gift box combinations. While it is a little pricey for chocolates, their truffles are of high quality and have the most amazing flavor combinations. I definitely would prefer to My absolute favorite truffle has to be the fresh mochi. I follow their instagram page, so whenever I see it I get very excited. Gadzooks, this is the best chocolate shop on the island! I read an article that said Bill Gates got his chocolate catered from Honolulu Chocolate Company for his wedding because it was that good. They're lucky Choco Le'a wasn't open yet because he probably would've picked Choco Le'a instead. Since I've found out about this place, I've been coming back every week. Yeah. Seriously. No, I'm not having a wedding every week but the goodness sure tastes close to it. A 9 piece box will run you $20 but this isn't your Hershey's bar that you snarf down. Girl, slow your row! I make this box last at least a week. 1 piece at the end of the day because this truffle will make your whole day better. Pay attention to the temperature of the chocolate. The case they use keeps the truffle at the right temp. It's around 60 F (can't remember exactly). Leave it too long out when it's warm and you lose some flavor intensity. Too cold and the chocolate won't melt as quick in your mouth. It's a science and an art! Location & Parking: It's a quaint, little shop in a quaint little building. Get on E Manoa Rd, pass the Starbucks and Morning Glass, make a right on Lowrey Ave and literally, start looking for parking on the street. The building is the first? one on the right. Mixed feelings about writing a glowing review. Some of the best premium chocolates I've had. At least as good as those I've gotten both in person and ordering online at up to double the price. And customer service is patient and friendly. So what's my problem? Theirs is a small shop (a dozen people starts getting a bit tight already) with limited parking (no huge lot) and open only three days out of the week. If all Oahu Chocoholics knew of this place, I would probably have to wait an hour just to get in the door on a Saturday. But aside from my selfish motive to keep Choco le'a a hidden gem, I really hope anyone on Oahu who appreciates good chocolate gives them a try. There aren't many local shops offering top quality artisan chocolate and it is good to support locally owned small businesses. So what about the chocolates? I have not had a bad one but the ones that motivate me to drive from Aiea to Manoa are the lychee, mochi, butterscotch, and cherry truffles. The mochi truffle has fresh mochi in it and so is more perishable than the others. Make sure you get only enough for same- or next-day eating, then return for more as soon as you can. The others are liqueurs and will keep for longer in the 'fridge. They have done an awesome job using just the right kinds and amounts of liquor to complement the flavor of the chocolate. They have a subscription program that offers a prepaid discount on a 20 piece box of truffles each month for six months at a time. Ask and sign up if they are adding subscribers. We stopped here on the day we landed in Honolulu and actually didn't end up eating the chocolate until way after we went back home to LA. They recommend consuming it within 2 weeks, but I can attest that the chocolate was delicious even after the two week mark and beyond. We ordered a box and I would have to say that my favorite was definitely the Lilikoi. Of course all of them were really good. We had two yuzu and I wasn't impressed when I tried the first one. A couple days later, I ate the second and I found it had more flavor. Might just be a fluke, but even my BF agreed. Everyone in the shop was really nice and helpful. The lady helping us, even wrote down for us what wasn't on the list of chocolates they provide already so we knew what chocolate was what. We will definitely come back and visit this shop again next time we are on Oahu. If I were a local I would be in trouble. It is on the pricier side but its definitely worth it. I'm not a big Yelper, but these luxury truffles are so mouthwatering and memorable I had to give my 2 cents. I love quality dark chocolate more than anything. When I was 12, I preferred Dove to Hersheys. Now, I splurge at chocolate shops on my travels and spend unnecessary amounts of money "researching" Scharffen Berger, TCHO, Mast Brothers, Vosges and the like. I had the fortune of sampling and receiving a few boxes of these truffles while in Hawaii some time ago and, till today, crave their hand-made, silky, creamy texture and flavors. The business is 100% local, small but growing, and ingredients are sourced with the best care. You can tell the folks behind these chocolates are very knowledgeable and passionate about what they do, too. I love the customization of flavors, my personal favorites being the mochi (sticky rice), caramel with Hawaiian sea salt, Lilikoi (Passion Fruit), and cheesecake. Just brilliant. So.....I'm totally NOT a sweet fan, in fact, sweets are not my thing, UNLESS, you give me a truffle. I came across these little pieces of heaven by total accident. The owners are friends and I was given a few as a Christmas gift. It literally sat in my refrigerator for two weeks until I was on the verge of having a mental breakdown from a long day at work and needed something sweet to rescue me! I found the box of truffles and thought, "Why not?" HOLY MOLY! I swear it took me two seconds to inhale the luscious and silky smooth chocolate drops. I just got a few more and WHOA! Can you say Party in my mouth? I had the pleasure of tasting the Haskap, which is a limited edition flavor from Hokkaido Japan. The flavor is all chocolate in the beginning and as it sits in your mouth, melting, it takes on a sweet after taste and the blueberry/raspberry flavor starts to pop. The second is the Lilikoi. At first all i could taste was the dark chocolate bittersweetness and thought how much I love chocolate! Then....BOOM KANANI!!! The fruity tartness hit me like a bomb that made my mouth water and dance for joy all at the same time....Made me want to drink a glass of champagne....maybe i should get more.... Those are just two of my favorites! From what i can tell on their website there are over 50 different flavors! THAT, my friends, is a reason to go back for more. Choco le'a has been a family favorite since they opened in our neighborhood 4 years ago. Even though it is a newer business, I get a sense of nostalgia walking up to the cute white picket fence. Choco le'a definitely makes you feel like you are back in time when visiting your local sweet shop was a real treat. When you open the doors, you are always greeted with a warm hello and a smile. And then you taste the product and it is nothing short of amazing! And I've tried everything: the specialty truffles (ginger and salted caramel are my favorite), chocolate dipped tropical fruit, chocolate covered macadamia nuts, chocolate Oreos, chocolate melts and more. The chocolate is of the highest quality and I love how they incorporate local ingredients when they can. If you love chocolate, you won't be able to stay away from this store. I would say more like a 3.5. Got some chocolates for Christmas from hubby. They were good but not earth shattering. Dare I say it? I like See's raspberry creme much better than Choco lea raspberry truffle. The chocolate's flavor came out more at room temperature than right out of the fridge. (I kept them in the fridge because they got very soft sitting out on the counters in the heat of Hawai'i. All in all, good chocolate but I am not sure if it is worth the steep price. I get they are hand made but this is also Hawai'i and rent is expensive. read more

I'm a dark chocolate addict and this shop does the trick. The little shop is small but very cute with plenty of selections. The staff is friendly and helpful. The truffle flavors are unique, bold, and natural yet they complement the chocolate without overpowering it - the balance is just right. The flavors change over time so if you see one interesting you should grab it while it's there. The chocolate-dipped preserved fruits are perfect - tender and not overly sweet. It's hard to find words for their sipping chocolate. It's like drinking warm heaven, seriously, I dream about it. I'm sad I don't live in Manoa any more, but it's probably better for me, otherwise I couldn't resist this place and I'd be here all the time! read more

Gourmet chocolate truffles at its finest! I tried 5 different flavors and they were all excellent. Everything here is quality - fresh, smooth, delicate, creamy chocolate. I tried 2 of their liquer infused truffles - both the lychee liquer and mint fizz sake were delicious. Their specialty flavors were also amazing - the cookie butter and caramel with Alae Hawaiian sea salt (i always love the combination) were both delicious. I also love how they incorporate local flavors (the lilikoi I tried was perfect). So many different flavors that will please any palate! These truffles are perfect for special events or that special someone. I USED to think Godiva was high quality (great marketing). But once you taste how fresh these handmade artisan chocolates are, you'll never want to eat mass-produced chocolate again. I'd also like to note that this company is locally owned. This review is long overdue. I'll start off by saying that I typically don't like to go into chocolate stores, because their truffles are over priced and taste as good as Hersheys or Godiva or some other band you can get at target. And then I walked into Chocolea. I can safely say, that after a years worth of membership, over a dozen chocolate covered Oreo cookies, miscellaneous chocolate covered things, and the best ever sipping chocolate, these chocolates can not be duplicated. Chocolate was only my vice in the last few years, but after discovering this place, I crave it daily. The staff is amazing, super friendly, helpful, and just nice people. The options are always aplenty, and the flavors never fail. They usually give first timers a sample, and that basically hooks you. They have a board of the daily options, or you can follow them on IG to see what they have. If there are specials, don't hesitate, call it in, cause they will sell out! They have tons of seasonal specials, haupia and dom perignon being my favorite. You can get one (ya right) or a box of 20. They have chocolate covered fruits, mac nuts, oreos (my fav is the red velvet or mint), and on Saturdays they have sipping chocolate. Their chocolate is a mix of manoa chocolate and Belgian chocolate. They cater parties, weddings, and have special flavors for new years, valentines day, girls day, white day, etc. I can go on and on about every truffle flavor they have (I think I have tried almost 25?). The alcohol flavors are unique and are not strong at all, but just enough to give you the taste you want. My best advice is to go and try it. You will return. read more
