I'm so happy that Choco le'a has managed to stay open despite these hard times! However, their services are very limited as they only do pre-orders on Tuesdays at noon for pick-up the following Saturday afternoon, and it is a small menu to choose from (although I believe the options do change every week). Pre-orders go quickly, I think within the first 15 minutes, so make sure you get online right at 12. I was really impressed with Choco le'a's website and their online ordering system. It's very easy to use and so efficient! They also send you a confirmation email as well as a reminder email before your Saturday pickup. On Saturday, it was super easy to find where to go because they have a big sign up with instructions to pull over on the curb in front of the shop and text the number on the sign saying you are there and what color car you are in. Not even a minute after I texted them, someone came out with my order. The staff here is very friendly and sweet - and they even added some free small chocolate samples to my order! Overall, I'm very impressed with Choco le'a's COVID-19 efforts. That, in addition to their exceptional service and delicious chocolates, makes this a 5 stars for me. I know some may be frustrated with the minimal options available or that you can only pre-order and pick-up at a certain time, but it seems that they are doing their best to stay open while remaining organized and efficient. read more

Arrived a bit after opening on 02.17.18 to ensure I could get my hands on on some of the hot chocolate! There was a steady flow of customers, literally in the half an hour I sat outside with my chocolates, there was not a time that a customer was not in store. I'm a simple chocolate gal, I mean, let's face it, I'm fine with a Snickers. However, this does not go to say I can't appreciate some of the finer things such as these wondrous treats. Very disappointed. I was hoping to surprise my wife with some chocolates here for Valentine's Day and the ball was dropped. There's a disparity between the times the shop is available on the email and what Google says, so I tried calling for clarification on when I could pick up the order I placed. I called early in the day (probably before noon) to see if the store was actually open for me to pick up my purchase, but I didn't even get a phone call back until well past 4pm and far too late for me to get to Manoa if they were in fact open. I'm going on a trip tomorrow without my 60 dollar or whatever it cost chocolate and I'm going to be gone for the next two weeks. Don't try and get a straight answer when they're open or you'll hurt your brain. This review is based on their Valentines box of truffles. This was my first and definitely not last box of chocolates from this shop! I've only tried about 8 of the truffles so far, but I've been delighted at the way the dark chocolate simply melts in your mouth, coating it with creamy, velvety, rich chocolate deliciousness! The flavors are subtle yet definitely true to their descriptions. These chocolates are very delicate and I'd rank them higher than most expensive brands I've tried. Maybe the bigger name brands have to make their chocolates more heat-resistant for shipping and shelf-life purposes, but the chocolate ends up being harder and more waxy as a result. You can buy them by the piece ($2.25) or custom build a box of 9 ($19.95) or 20 ($39.95). They also have pre-set boxes of 9 or 20 if you'd rather grab-n-go. They also have non-truffle chocolate items such as chocolate covered oreos, chocolate covered macadamia nut clusters, and chocolate dipped mango. The shelf life of most truffles is weeks, although believe me, you'll eat them up way before then. Truffles that are more perishable like the mochi and haupia should be consumed within a week. Their boutique here in Manoa is only open 3 days a week: Tuesdays (10-5), Fridays (10-6), and Saturdays (10-4), so plan accordingly. Yay! Choco le'a has opened a boutique in Manoa Square! Previously, the gourmet chocolates could only be found at Eden in Love at Ward Warehouse, Red Pineapple in Ward Center, and the Moana Surfrider Hotel Spa in Waikiki. But now, you can get your artisan chocolates and truffles by the piece every Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday in Manoa. Being a dark chocolate fan, I love that they use European dark chocolate exclusively. They will however, work with local brands of chocolate and milk chocolate by request. But the chocolate they use is just beautiful. It's smooth, silky and rich in taste. At their boutique, the truffles are sold individually and you can customize a 9 or 20 piece box. For ease of ordering, you can also get preset boxes which make wonderful gifts. The artisan truffles are made from fresh, natural, organic, and wholesome ingredients as often as possible. My favorite truffle is the mochi truffle, but I haven't met a Choco le'a truffle that I didn't like. My current 9 piece truffle box has a sake, a Guinness Beer, a Glenfiddich, and a margarita truffle. I can't wait to bite into those! They also offer solid chocolate pieces, chocolate dipped fruit, and chocolate macadamia nut clusters. They make an amazing chocolate covered oreo in a variety of oreo cookie flavors. Everytime I bite into one, I am amazed how fresh and crunchy the oreo cookie is. In addition to their retail services, they are available for catering and wholesale orders. If you know me well enough then you know that "I ain't no chocolate feller!" With that said tho, this dark chocolate is something else. I sampled the dark chocolate with caramel and ala'e salt and "whoooaaaaaaaaaaaaaa nelly!" It was silky smooth, with just enough caramel (not overly sweet like u would think), and it finished with that salty goodness that set it apart from any chocolate I have tasted. My fam tried 2 others and they were hooked and want to try more and more custom flavors. We are already thinking about Xmas gifts and recommending it to friends we know. There are two major addiction in my life. A great dim sum joint and that perfect chocolate slowing melting in my palate. As you walk into this cute and cozy little heaven you realized there's something very special about this place. There was certainly a lot of love in creating the ambiance. There was a bit of a crowd, so we waited patiently for our turn. When we reached the counter, the amazing staff could only be described as "graceful" and "peaceful". I'm not sure what it was, however it felt as though an angels was offering a small piece of heaven called chocolate. There's so many interesting flavors like peanut butter sirracha, yamasaki (Japanese whiskey), B52 bomber! All the gold wrappers are liqueur chocolates. Their gift boxes for either 9 truffles (19.99)or 20 (39.99). Once picked, the sales associate wraps your chocolate box ready to go! They even have chocolate dipped fruit that comes in pineapple, mango, and jaboong (like a grapefruit). If you're a chocoholic, I recommend coming on Saturdays because they have a sipping hot chocolate. It's delish but too a little too rich for me. I was always that kid that relished the Hershey special dark in mixed bags cause no other kid wanted them. I signed up for their rewards program during my first visit today and was informed I could receive a free truffle if I returned during the month of my birthday. My birthday month is just two days away, and the cashier let me have a free truffle today even though he could have told me to come back. He gave me an extra flavor key for my ala carte truffles without my asking. I didn't really need it because I only had three pieces, and two of them were the same flavor. Because I had a pre-order, all I had to do when I got there was tell them my name. They brought out my items in a nice bag and confirmed what I ordered before ringing me up. I tried a matcha and a kona coffee truffle, and both were delicious with a satisfying snap. I liked the coffee one more, but I like coffee more than green tea. My boyfriend and I both liked the kona coffee truffle from Choco le'a more than the one from Padovani's Chocolate's :o I think all their products are gift-worthy. Love, love, love Choco le'a! I am picky about my chocolate and either hate it or love it. This is good quality dark chocolate handcrafted with Hawaiian and Japanese inspired flavors. If you appreciate quality chocolates, you will be in heaven! The truffles are rich and flavorful, but not cloyingly sweet. I could tear through a whole box of these, but I have to exercise restraint and savor and enjoy them since I can only have them once a year. I recommend you get the big box and craft your own. All of them are delicious, but I do have my preferences. My husband and I get the 20 piece and get two of each so we can both try them. My favorites are the matcha and the yuzu because I love those Japanese flavors. My husband loves the Japanese whiskey. They do have several flavors that contain booze and I like how they differentiate those in your box by using a foil wrapper instead of the papers one. Your box will also come with a key so you remember which one is which (they all are shaped a bit differently), and for those special limited flavors they'll make some hand-written notes for you so you don't get those mixed up. The only flavor that didn't wow me was the habanero. It had no heat what-so-ever, but of course still tasted good. The packaging is also really pretty. You can even choose the colors of the small size gift boxes. These are high quality chocolates and you want to make sure you get them home in one piece. If you're traveling, save this for one of your last stops. Mine have always made it home nicely if I place them in my carry on. Everyone I've given them to also falls in love with them. It's the perfect local Hawaiian goodie to bring home. If you want a certain flavor be sure to get there early as they do sell out. I came at the end of the day on my last visit, and there was no more matcha. I got extra lychee instead, so I didn't leave empty handed. Wonderful friend gave me a box of 20 for the holidays. There was no description of the contents or ingredient list, but they're chocolate truffles, right? What could go wrong? I ate one and immediately regretted it. My mouth and throat burned. I wasn't sure what was in it but later I had acid reflux and was sick for a bit the next day. My friend had given me banana liqueur-filled truffles, not realizing I did not drink alcohol. I called Choco le'a and explained what happened. I am also allergic to mango. The staff were very concerned and receptive. They do not include a flavor list unless requested, but after I pointed out how dangerous it could be for those with allergies, or if someone didn't know there was liqueur and gave one to a child, etc., they said they would revisit their policy. The owner and all staff members were just great. They gave me a certificate for another box of 20. I went in recently and picked 13 different flavors - most were regular flavors, but a few were specials. The regular flavors were: triple chocolate, caramel with Alaea Hawaiian sea salt, lilikoi, yuzu, cookies n cream, milk chocolate with peanut butter, peppermint, peanut butter, vanilla bean, and milk chocolate toasted mac nut. The special flavors were red velvet, bacon, and mini Oreo. Because I like caramel and mac nuts and peppermint and peanut butter, it's no surprise I really enjoyed these. The surprise was which one ended up being my favorite - it was the yuzu. I thought the chocolate and the citrus flavor balanced each other very nicely. Actually the only one I didn't care for was the bacon. Love bacon and love chocolate, but separately. Maybe if there had been more bacon I might have liked it more, but the truffles are small, so it would be difficult to squish more in there. These make a lovely gift, for others (or for yourself). I wish all places had as terrific customer service as Choco le'a does. The 6 bus (going into the valley and out of the valley) stops very near by. But, the shop is not disability friendly. There are two steps up, and then another high-ish step up into the shop, with no grab bar to hold onto. But these folks are so nice that I bet if you called them and let them know what you wanted, they would get it together and bring it out to you. They are very accommodating. read more

The chocolates here are good, nothing spectacular. And they are extremely expensive. Their selling point is that this is one of the only (if not, the only) place on the island that makes their own chocolate. If it wasn't so close to my house and I wasn't so lazy I would go somewhere else like diamond head chocolates. Also, the wait time is really bad. The chocolate here is such good quality, a variety of flavors and I believe they have seasonal ones as well. Their dried fruits dipped in chocolate is so good! A few weeks ago a girlfriend of mine sent me a photo of Choco le'a's assortment of chocolate dipped fruits and I lustfully begged her to grab me some pineapple if she stopped by. I happily picked up my treat and heard more about this hidden treasure of a chocolatier hidden in Manoa that I somehow hadn't discovered yet. A week later with all the pineapple safely deposited in my belly, I decided to make my maiden voyage to Choco le'a and with that visit a new love affair was born. Upon walking into the store, I was immediately greeted and offered a taste of their sipping chocolate which is nothing short of magical. I decided to treat myself to a box of assorted truffles and am still kicking myself for not getting more than nine. The standout favorites from my assortment were the peanut butter and jelly, yuzu, triple chocolate, Lilikoi, salted caramel and Kona coffee. Basically they were all incredible. I haven't tasted chocolate this incredible in years since my favorite guilty pleasure of a chocolatier went out of business and I'm so very happy to have found this place. I stumbled across Choco le'a while roaming around waiting for Morning Glass coffee. This cute little shop is right around the corner in the residential area and at the ground floor of a house. It has two tables out front and a quaint white picket fence. Inside the shop there is a sitting area, a few shelves with packaged treats (chocolate dipped fruit, mac nuts) and a display case that is a feast for your eyes. Each delicate piece is so beautiful and I can really appreciate handcrafted chocolates. It was nice to hear that a local couple took a hobby and master's program project to fruition. About that chocolate: These delectable little bites have fantastic flavors and it's apparent that they use high quality cocoa nibs to craft each chocolate. From yuzu, yamazaki, and rum raisin, they have all sorts of flavors with local and asian flair. On my first trip, my favorites were the caramel 'alaea sea salt and the yamazaki sake chocolates. And while I'm not crazy about sipping chocolate, I had a taste and the flavor is wonderful. I know a few people who would enjoy this pumped straight into their veins. Chocolate high anyone?! Choco Le'a is located in Manoa on Lowrey Ave. Honestly not too sure about the parking situation, we ended up scoring parking right in front on the street. They have TONS of chocolates to choose from. I heard so much about Choco le'a, and, being a chocoholic, I couldn't wait to visit the chocolate boutique. I finally got my chance just one week before Christmas. I was planning to surprise my mom with a small box of truffles for Christmas. I didn't know what to expect, but I was sure that my experience would be memorable. Choco le'a can easily be overlooked or missed if you're driving too quickly. Your best bet is to find parking in the neighborhood and then walk. This shop is just a hop and a skip away from Morning Glass Coffee + Café. Choco le'a is really small, so be prepared to wait if there are a lot of customers there. During the time of my visit, there were about two or three other customers, so it was a tight squeeze in the store. I have to say, though, customer service here is exceptional. There were three girls working behind the counter. One not only offered me a sample, but she was really informative about the seasonal items, the costs of the different goodies and she was able to answer all of my questions. Plus, getting a sample never hurts, since this was my first time to Choco le'a. The truffle flavors available for the day/seasonal flavors are written up on the menu board, and they even had a drinking chocolate special during my visit. However, since I had just eaten, I didn't opt for the drinking chocolate ... though, I wouldn't be opposed to getting it on the next Saturday I visit! Due to pricing, I chose the nine-truffle arrangement for my mom, even though there were definitely other truffles that were calling my name. I also got a chocolate-covered OREO cookie for myself, and it was decorated with seasonal Christmas prints. Definitely made eating it more fun! This is a great option for any chocolate fiend, if you're looking for the perfect gift for a special occasion. These little chocolates sure disappear quickly once you buy a box, but every bite (and every extra minute you spend exercising) will be worth it! Here's what I got: "Cookie Butter & Peanut Butter Truffle": I still prefer the peanut butter flavor over that of cookie butter, but this truffle features the blend of both worlds. I liked how I could taste a hint of the cookie butter flavor, but I was still able to enjoy the creamy, peanut butter taste. "Peanut Butter": Peanut butter has to be my favorite flavor of all time, hands down, whether it's cookies, ice cream, brownies or any kind of dessert. I bought at least three of these truffles (so I could try one of my mom's). I loved the creamy peanut butter interior. For peanut butter, I love strong peanut butter flavors, so this one doesn't disappoint! "Cookies and Cream": Second to peanut butter, cookies and cream is also one of my all-time favorites ... probably because Cookies and Cream ice cream was my favorite flavor as a kid. I liked the fact that eating this truffle was like eating an OREO ... but in chocolate form! During my visit, they were actually featuring truffles with mini OREOs in them. How creative! "Red Velvet": Red velvet is a hit or miss flavor at many places, but it's a hit here at Choco le'a. This truffle wasn't overpowering or really strong, and I liked how I could definitely tell it was red velvet. "Chocolate-Dipped OREO": I don't get chocolate-dipped OREOs often ... in fact, the last time I ever tried one was from the Honolulu Chocolate Company. But I really liked the chocolate-dipped OREO from Choco le'a! The layer of chocolate is thick, generous and rich, but you still get to aptly taste the sweetness from the OREO. Bonus is that this one was decorated with seasonal prints, so mine had a picture of a gingerbread house on it (all in chocolate, of course). Having the seasonal décor makes these OREOS look even more enticing! "Triple Chocolate": I got one of these truffles, just to see how chocolaty is was. My mom described it as similar to a triple chocolate ice cream flavor. She enjoys dark chocolate, so this truffle flavor was right up her alley. "Caramel with Hawaiian Sea Salt": Alas, I didn't add this truffle to the mix because my mom doesn't like caramel, but if I were ordering a box for myself, I would definitely choose this option. I like the taste of dark chocolate with sea salt, and with a caramel interior, this truffle flavor's sure to be a winner! read more

I've never tried this place, only because I figured it would be just another "here today-gone tomorrow" chocolate shop. But, lucky for me (!!!) I was a recipient of a box of their dark chocolate truffles and realized that I had been missing out on some truly artisan chocolates! Just the care in the way these petite gastro-phemons (didn't want to just say "gems" for these little works of art) are packed shows that these chocolatiers love what they do. The creative combinations of delicate truffle fillings and silky dark chocolate shells complimented each other perfectly. (These folks are so good at their craft that they can make matcha work with chocolate!) It's worth a trip to Chocole'a! I'm sure that they have a truffle flavor for you. Choco lea is definitely my favorite shop. Ever. I can't say which I like more, the warm and friendly atmosphere, or the delicious mouth-watering chocolates that I can't get enough of! Now, if you don't like DARK chocolate, don't let that stop you from visiting! You'll love it, I PROMISE (I only liked milk chocolate growing up. If someone offered me dark chocolate, I always turned it down). I used to love Kit Kat, Snickers, Nestle's Crunch, Hershey's, e.t.c., but now I haven't touched a Hershey's bar in over a year. Choco le'a has spoiled my taste buds, and I no longer eat any chocolates except for Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, and Choco le'a chocolates. Choco le'a's chocolate is not bitter (except for their bittersweet truffle), and it's rich quality will soon have you craving more. I have tried almost all of their (probably over 50) non-liquor truffles-yes, they have liquor truffles-and I can only name three that I'm not a fan of. But first, if you've never been to Choco le'a, I suggest you make your way into Manoa and drive past Manoa Marketplace until you come to Lowrey Ave, and turn right! Choco le'a is right across from the gas station, right around the corner from Morning Glass + Cafe and the Doggie Bakery. Parking is simple. There's actually a little parking lot that's in front of the Doggie Bakery and Line and Dot that is for Choco le'a customers as well (though I didn't know that until recently), otherwise street parking is easy to find in quiet Manoa. Customer service is excellent, obviously. Whether they're busy with several customers, or you are the only customer there, they always make you feel special and welcome. If you like truffles, I have many, many suggestions... My first love was the Triple Chocolate. A heavenly blend of Belgium, Hawaiian, and Swiss chocolate, this is what makes you understand the value of chocolate. My favorite is the Mini Oreo. There's actually a mini Oreo inside of the truffle! Need I say more? My other favorites are the: Haupia! They only make this one occasionally, but it's so delicious and refreshing that I check Choco le'a's Instagram every day to see if they have it on their daily flavor board! Cookies n Cream! This one is a perfect cookie crumble texture that always leaves me wishing I had gotten more than two in my box. PB & J! Yes, there's actually peanut butter and jelly in it! It tastes like someone your mom would make, except covered in chocolate! Peanut butter! This one is not in the same category as a Reese's Peanut butter cup, because you can taste the delicious ganache and dark chocolate. Mint chocolate chip! This new flavor has only been around for maybe a month or two, but I hope it stays around! It tastes creamy and satisfying like mint chocolate chip ice cream! Matcha! They had this in both white chocolate and dark chocolate, and both were delicious! Definitely a flavor for tea and matcha lovers! Cookie butter! They haven't had this one all year, but I'm hoping they will soon! It's a actually a hit or miss. Sometimes it's heavenly with a crunch, and sometimes it's a little dull. Pumpkin Pie Spice (or something like that)! It's only available during the holidays, but it reminds me of pumpkin pie at Thanksgiving dinners and Christmas feasts. I have a sweet tooth, so if you don't like sweet desserts, maybe the Kona Coffee or Yuzu or Cayenne Pepper or liquor truffles are for you! These chocolates are genius and magical, because even the pickiest of the holiday scrooges were smiling! The team at Choco Le'a are very sweet and friendly, which is always nice. They are also helpful in guiding your choices and answering all your questions. This year as always, I was looking for something unique and interesting. Well, have no fear - I found the perfect gift! This is not your run of the mill, chocolate covered peanuts kind of joint. Choco Lea' candies are specially made, with unique flavors and combinations to interest any palette. For the holidays I loved that you could preorder your gifts and have them ready for pick up! The boxes of candies are colorful and nicely put together. In fact as soon as you pick them up they ready for sharing - unless your inner Martha Stewart really felt the urge to add a bow or tag. (But seriously, no need!). I was fortunate enough to receive a cooler bag full of goodies as a birthday gift! So this review is solely for the taste and presentation, after leaving the shop. I received my treats in a beautiful copper cooler bag with their logo on it. Perfect to keep perishable chocolate goods cool. Started of my tasting with their classic chocolate-covered Oreo. This thing was huge! They don't skimp on chocolate. Next, I had a box of two delectable truffles. Looked that the guide of truffle flavors, and boy, I don't think you could go wrong with any of them! Such creative flavors, such as lilikoi and cookies & cream! One of my truffles had sprinkles and tasted like birthday cake, and the other was good but I couldn't match the design with what flavor it was. These truffles are the best I've had! I believe these were dark chocolate too! Dark chocolate is good for you, right?! I felt somewhat better about my not-so-healthy-but-so-worth-it (or moment on the lips, forever on the hips) decision to eat both in one sitting. Crunch-a-le'a is their version of a fancier and tastier Rice Krispies treat! Cocoa, peanut butter, marshmallows, rice krispies, mac nuts, sea salt. Trust me-- you won't be disappointed.
