Visited Chive for the first time tonight. It wasn't bad. I had the steak bowl and the seared tuna. Both came out really quick, but I suppose that's their thing. Both were good, but the portions were smaller than I would have thought. I had them with a $9 beer. I was out the door for $38 for one person and I only had one drink. That's a bit much I think when compared to other places. It was also kind of loud when I went, but I think it was due to a party. I saw a sign for taco Tuesday's that looks manageable price wise. We sat at the bar and the prices were beyond reasonable, like a happy hour menu but it's an all day menu if you sit at the bar. I always sit at the bar, and my girlfriend and I usually have one or two drinks. They offer a margarita as a special for three dollars, but it doesn't seem to be any alcohol in it. So it's really not a drink, it's the margarita mix. Other than that, the food is very reasonable in price and very tasty. Terrible service. Guy at the order counter (wearing a rainbow bandana) should not be in customer service. I ordered 2 vegetable burritos, no sour cream. I EMPHASIZED no sour cream, and he even repeated it back to me to confirm. Then I ordered a kids rice and bean bowl. Again, I EMPHASIZED nothing but rice and beans, and he started scooping meat and vegetables into it! Then we sit down and we start eating and I look inside my burrito and there was sour cream everywhere!!!! The only thing I could taste was sour cream. We were pressed for time so we couldn't even ask them to remake it. The French fries were bland, with no salt. The food was tasteless. We had to add salt to everything! The ambiance was very dark. We drove down to meet some family friends for lunch and agreed to meet at chive due to the very high ratings on yelp, but ultimately felt led astray. After waiting in a very long line to order, we sat down to eat. The bowl with pulled pork was dry and had little flavor, and served drenched in sauce. The scallop/fish cake was served on a bed of what tasted like bagged salad and a thick mayo dressing. My family members got the quinoa bowl which was literally a scoop of quinoa on zucchini and squash again drenched in sauce. Ambiance is not there at all - it's an industrial bar feel inside. A recent trip through Vero Beach with hunger in my belly brought out a Yelp search with Chive being the intended destination. SCW and I got the directions and soon enough we arrived basically right as they opened. Once inside we were greeted and asked if it was our first time and since it was we got the run down. You have a few options from the start. You can go straight to the line and choose what you'd like. Choose between the meal delivery options such as a lettuce wrap, bowl, burrito, or tacos. Then choose your protein sources of which they are many. Then you can dress it up from the many sauces and add ons. The selection is made in front of you and you pay and you can take it to go, or sit down at one of the tables. Or you can....sit at the bar and order the same way however the menu offers some dishes as well. I chose the seasonal veggie burrito (can be made vegan by omitting the sour cream) and SCW had the Captain Quinoa salad. We chose a few IPAs as we were looking through the menu. They have a fairly good selection of beer on tap. A short wait later our meals were served. Everything looked fresh and tasted amazing. I really enjoyed the seasonal veggie burrito which had some steamed broccoli, squash, carrots and a few other great tasting veggies along with some pinto beans. SCW and I were both very happy with our choices as many "mmm" sounds could be heard if one was listening to us. The restaurant was incredibly clean and the bar was impeccable. The decor is pleasant as well and has some TVs around the bar and the restaurant for sports and what not. Apparently they also have some themed nights with one night being a salsa dance theme. Been going to Chive since it was on Royal Palm Blvd. This is a terrific restaurant with lots of choices made from the same basic fresh ingredients. The current location is better, has a spacious full bar, and plenty of shaded outdoor seating. For lunch I had the lobster roll. It contains large chunks of great tasting lobster served on a folded over butter toasted slice of bread. It was delicious. I added the soup of the day which is always a safe bet. We also had soft tacos with chicken, and broccoli salad as the side. Their mayonnaise based sides are always good because there is never an overpowering amount. Why not 5-stars? The portions are a tad on the small side including drink cups so we are constantly going back to a tight drink station to refill on water and tea. read more

Upon inception the Chive was super popular and with good reason. The food was fresh and innovative. But it hasn't evolved despite its success. The move over to miracle mile was a good thing as it acquired a nice full service bar. But the food hasn't changed or improved. Don't get me wrong it's good. But I think it's important for a good restaurant to either continually improve or evolve. Even the best restaurants will tweak the menus periodically to keep things fresh and bringing diners back and to entice new customers as well. At the same time I get it. If it ain't broke don't fix it is the mentality. And that is fine. If your fine with fine then the chive is what you want. read more

Four of us were looking for a lunch spot on a Sunday and Yelp reviews were our guide to Chive. Gotta say we weren't impressed. I ordered the ahi tuna poke salad. The bottom layer of rice was dry and overcooked. The tuna pieces were mushy and the other ingredients were skimpy. An accompanying garlic basil sauce (?) was lumpy, not smooth. I also ordered an app of smoked mahi tuna. It came with slices of jalapeño and banana pepper rings. Served with packets of broken crackers. It was ok but I've had much better. My wife's blackened mahi on a salad didn't even fill 2/3 of the plate. Not much for the price and the mahi was nothing special. Our friends also ordered the seared ahi tuna, served with your choice of added ingredients. Again, a small portion for the price. The tuna was properly seared. The ordering process and menu options at the counter was confusing. A chalkboard, a slide show on a monitor and paper menus all competed to explain the ordering process and options. The staff was pleasant but the cashier was about to lose it when the credit card system went down. After 2-3 minutes we sat ourselves and later paid with cash. We wanted to like it. The menu was widely varied with some healthy offerings. It's walk up counter service or full you sit at the bar. So we and the other six people in the entire place sat at the bar. Everyone at the bar place d their orders. Next 15 people then came in for walk up counter service. All 15 people were served before the bar patrons. When the food arrived presentation not so good .The meat on the salad was cold but it was tasty portions were just right. I never did get a drink refill. Never got an offer for coffee or dessert. One more thing a gentleman from one of the tables that included the 15 walk up patrons tried to get a beer for at least 5 to 10 minutes walked around every side of the bar and the bartender just refused to look at him. And if you're trying to read the menu when you walk in the door good luck all the overhead lights are either burned out or turned off it's the darkest part of the restaurant the only place where you need to read something. I eat out a lot this place has potential but it is sadly nowhere near its potential will never eat there again.
