Here's a fun and delicious story. I saw at Publix and bought volcano roll dip which was good but not awesome so my wife got a hunger for sushi so she orders from this place. I go to pick up and parking isn't great but the folks in there were really cool and the food was cooked to order. Whatever that soy sauce combination with my tearikki sauce combination is that made the shrimp and sushi rolls perfect. Bottle that up because whatever that is I'd put that on anything Asian and a few other dishes as well. Also shout out to the shrimp. It was way better than the standard fried shrimp I'd usually get. I was very disappointed in the food I ordered. The tuna sushi roll was mediocre. The Hibachi steak was horrible. I've never been disappointed in their food until now. Maybe because I had an Instacart coupon? My partner who can eat anything literally got sick to his stomach. I'm so shocked and disappointed. Fried rice had only soy sauce on it? This place is a hidden gem of a whole in the wall. Small parking lot and small inside, mostly a takeout place, but Authentic Japanese food. A few of us stopped in to get dinner and dine on the back porch area. The prices are reasonable for the type and quantity of food. This is a family- owned restaurant set up more for take-out orders than for sit down dining, however they do have 3 small tables inside that seat a couple of people each, and a couple tables around back on a small deck that seat 4 each. They offer canned soft drinks and a few other bottled drinks including water. The staff is super-friendly, and the food is cooked fresh upon ordering. We tried the hibachi meals, teriyaki chicken meal, and coconut shrimp. We really liked the coconut shrimp, and the fried rice was very tasty and moist. It's a small venue with a few parking spots out front and additional parking around the back. I met a friend there for lunch. The food was good, and the service was great! Even though it's counter service, the ladies went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed at the table. It is small inside, so I wouldn't plan on eating in with a large party, I'd get it to go in that case. But you can tell the employees really enjoy what they do! read more

What a disappointment! The hibachi steak was beyond well-done when we ordered medium-rare. The chicken hibachi was also overdone and tasteless. The edamame had no salt. Most of the sushi we ordered did not include the ingredients described. The sushi roll including mango ONLY came with mango! The fried rice had a hint of veggies and egg, but mostly seemed like white rice with soy sauce. The best meal was shrimp fried rice. Basically, I've been going there since just after their opening, sadly I live miles south of the UME Grill Express & would hope for one a little farther south. So, when I'm in Vero, I'll go there. I've never had a bad meal there, service & food has always been exceptional. I'll be heading there today. I once waited for an hour plus because a gas line was cut across the street, I'm retired & was on my way back home, not a big deal. Awesome food and great service! What more could you ask for? Finally made it to Ume grill during our third trip to Vero. It was the perfect lunch (and treat) after 2 hours of mini golf. My family of 3 went for lunch. My hubby and I got poke bowls, I had the volcano bowl. I was worried that it was going to be mostly rice and it wasn't at all. My husband got the Rainbow bowl. The fish was fresh and both bowls were flavorful. My 6yo son got the salmon hibachi with fried rice and there was enough for lunch and dinner. I ordered Teriyaki Chicken and what I received wasn't what I expected. That being said, what I did receive was quite delicious but not very 'teriyaki-ish'. Grilled chicken breast, with stir fried onions and green peppers. Sprinkled with sesame seeds and some kind of sauce. Sauce was nice, not at all overpowering. Orderered online and was ready and waiting at the specified time. Staff was exceptionally polite and friendly. We got takeout from here the other night and the food was good. It wasn't the best hibachi I've ever had but it's also more of a fast food version of hibachi than real hibachi. We had a few different requests of leaving certain ingredients out of each order and they listened which is rare, so service was good too. The food is always on point, normal wait time for Japanese food with an affordable menu items. I highly recommend it!

Finally found some tasty Asian food here in Vero Beach. Price for two luncheon specials was $20 but the portion was enough for four. We had the sweet and sour chicken and the salmon both with the fried rice. All were highly flavorful, crispy and light. Sauce was served on the side and delicious. Can't wait to come back and try all they offer. It's clear it more of a take out restaurant but they have room for six to dine in. I cannot express how much I love this place! I hope it never changes. The hibachi dinners are delicious my husband gets double veggies with chicken and steak hibachi. I get chicken with veggies and noodles! We both get their house salad and extra yum yum sauce. I'm not a big fan of the soup but I just don't order it. We visit Ume Grill every time we are back in town! We were in town for 5 days and had it 4 of the 5 nights, simply the best around! I went to Vero beach to visit my parents and was looking to find some local restaurants to support and stumbled upon this one. In all honesty it was first hard to find a place given all the construction but we were eventually able to find it... boy what a hidden gem! I got one of their signature Poké bowls and my boyfriend got the chicken teriyaki Bento box and everything was super fresh and delicious. I tried the special, General Tso's Chicken, which was probably one of the best I've had. It was made right when I ordered it, so it was piping hot and so wonderfully crispy. No soggy over-sauced chicken here, just pure, light, crunchy batter happiness! I thoroughly enjoyed it. The poke was good too. So excited to have a local poke place at last! If you want delicious and quick service food this place is it. Japanese Hibachi to go, it is a small place, so do not expect it to be a sit down restaurant that fits a lot of people. The staff was amazing, super accommodating and friendly especially since it was my first time here and I had my daughter with me. They do not have high chairs, so please keep in mind it is more of a to go express restaurant. The menu is very simple, prices were reasonable and the amount of food they give is what you pay for. I ordered the gyoza dumplings, lunch special chicken, veggies and hibachi style with fried rice, and volcano poke bowl. The crab wontons were amazing! Everything about our meal was good, and it felt super light. Most Japanese food seem heavy after eating, but this place did not. I totally recommend Ume Grill if you are craving poke, and hibachi Style meals. read more
