We found this place a few months ago, oh boy, no need to go all the way to Castro in Mtn View anymore. Joy! My kids love the egg shrimp chowfun, and we ordered several of these each time. Last time we were there, the owner/manager stepped outside the back to smoke, but left the door open. It was near the end of our dinner so we quickly left. The next two times, we ordered the same egg shrimp chowfun to go. Last week was my daughter's birthday and she requested this dish. We order 3 chowfuns, two shrimp and one beef, with wonton soup and stir fry vegetables. My wife picked them up, and brought it home to discover that the shrimp chowfun has no egg. I called back and the waiter told me that I ordered a dry chowfun. First of all, I never heard of a dry chowfun nor do i know that there is such a thing on their menu. Second, my wife and I were on the phone to order the food together (I conferenced her in because she knows what the kids would like to eat). And she corrected him right away because she mentioned the egg shrimp chowfun on the phone). I asked to talk to the manager and he came on the phone saying that he doesn't want to get in between his words and my words (oh really?) So he said that he will help me by giving me half off the chowfun dishes, or he can deduct them from our bill if we bring them back. I told him that I am in a private event in Great America and I can't bring them back. He insisted that I returned his food if he is taking them off our bill. Then he said that he can send someone over to Great America to pick up the food because he can use it (he said immediately on the phone when first picking up the call that they ran out of chowfun). It didn't dawn on my later that geez, they want to get them back quick so they can sell these wrongly made chowfuns to others. Good going! you just gave away your secret.
Few minutes later, my wife called and told me to call them back to say that we are packing the entire order up to return to them. They said that unless we bring all of the food back, and the manager said that we better not eating one bite on these food dishes or he won't give us back our money. He said that he is trying to help us out here, so make sure we don't eat them and return. Really, you made the wrong dishes and you are helping me by asking for me to bring them back intact? What about a birthday party for a 9 year old without her favorite dish? The next day I bought everything back, and he said that just like Costco, if you want your refund you need to bring back everything. I said that you are not Costco, and these are perishable foods, not returnable to the vendors. He said yea, but it's the principle. Sure, my principle is to make sure that you are asking for the entire order back untouch after picked up by your customer so you can re-use or resell them. Nice.
Update: 5/25/18. No Mr. Bob. Check your menu, There is only ONE chowfun with shrimp and it has egg. There is no other chowfun with shrimp that does not have egg. How do I know there is another one without egg to order? We ordered this same one every single time we patronage your place so now it's a different dish that we don't know how to order? You tried to weasel out of this one at the time, and now you tried again. It's exactly what I stated, and you can't admit that you guys made a mistake. You offered a refund, with a string. You expect people to bring back your food INTACT before you can give a refund of a wrong order. Most restaurant of decent caliber would admit it and either offer a refund no question asked, or perhaps a remake of the same thing but done right. No, you want your dish back. You know the trouble to order, go pick up, and then pack up to go back and return? Even if you offered to send someone out to pick them up, that's fishy. Why do you really need to get them back is beyond me, except like I said, you want to resell them to other people. read more
