I wish their fried rice had more flavor, and we aren't a fan of the other dishes. My order was $160. I asked to please pack it up with soy sauce and chili oil. In house the chili oil is free on the table, to go they require you to pay for chili oil. I'd think they would comp the $0.50 chili oil. Changed owners and you can tell!! Noodles are different, flavor is different, and they use canned mushrooms.. Didn't like the food at-all. I know I won't be going back! Price for 6 egg rolls, 1combo, and broccoli beef was almost $60.00 and the portions were smaller. Order was ready when I got there, did notice that dining room looked close. Food tasted great no complaints. Orange chicken sure was delicious. The plates from China Kitchen are generous portions and always very tasty. Our favorites are the sesame chicken or shrimp, beef and broccoli, special plate #1 (chow mein/ fried rice, sweet and sour pork, egg roll), egg flower soup and fried shrimp. The food is always great but the takeout wait times can be long. Sometimes you may have to call a couple times because phones are busy due to short staffing. However, there is a reason it's a Madera staple. Overall a great small business to support. read more

I added pics of 4 items and they were just edible. We order Chinese food all of the time from or favs and typically we have leftovers for the next day. Well we just made dinner for one day. If I wouldn't loose my cool they would get this shit back. But, lesson learned never again will they get a copper penny of mine. We ordered sesame chicken, lemon chicken, shrimp fried rice, chicken chow mein, mongolian beef, sweet n sour pork, and finally shrimp with lobster sauce (which was soup wasn't supposed 2b) horrible. If I could give a 0 stars I would. I went for the first and last time. I would always smell their food when shopping at Food 4 Less so I was really excited to try it as it smelled amazing. I ordered sweet and sour chicken and a side of chicken chow mein, orange chicken with chicken chow mein and a hot and sour tofu soup. My opinion, the best Chinese food in Madera. Huge portions. One plate can easily feed two people. They also have really good fried rice options too. But I love their steamed rice. It's never mushy. Menu is extensive, lots of vegetarian options for those avoiding meat. I usually order the shrimp fried rice, chicken chowmein, or teriyaki chicken. The lady always ask if you want rice or noodles with the plate so it's nice to have that option. I hope they reopen for dine-in options soon because I miss the egg flower soup they serve with dinner. Also, they do take cards or cash. If ordering takeout, I would suggest ordering at least 30 minutes before you want it because they do stay pretty busy during lunch and dinner hours. read more

My family and I have been coming here for many many years and never had an issue with their food..till last week we had got dinner on Sunday and I had got really bad food poisoning. Four hours after I ate I had a really bad stomachache, then a few hours later had chills and started getting a fever. I was horribly sick for 2 days from eating here. Haven't been into this place for about 3 years used to live 2 blocks away so we would go their once or twice every 2 weeks since it was the closest Chinese food to us. So since we moved across town we go to the closer one to us now. But this time since the wife is pregnant she wanted some food from here. If I could give 0 stars I would! First when I called, I asked for 1 dinner plate. I was told the noodles have "no flavor" and if I wanted "flavor" that was extra. I thought most food is suppose to have "flavor" but okay. I chose to add chicken which was an additional $5! Plus, their dinner plates don't come with rice and chow mien it's one or the other. So I had to add a small portion of fried rice, egg rolls and shrimp. This all came up to $45! Wow!!!! The "fried rice was bad and basically white rice with soy sauce and no other ingredients. All of the food was cheaply made and we threw out 40 dollars worth of food. I like to think I come here pretty often, except never for dine in. The food is all really good. The service used to be not so good, they have gotten better, especially when you start to become a "regular". The only reason for four stars is that I have gotten bad service on more than a couple occasions. Overall the food is great- to go. Was really looking forward to having a good meal from China Kitchen. I was so disappointed. I walked in a little after 4:00 to order. No other customers were there, just me. I placed my order, $79.00 for 3 meals and 2 appetizers one being egg rolls. I was told my order would be ready in 15 minutes so I sat down and waited. They got busy with walk in and phone orders. After 30 minutes I inquired about my order and was told they were waiting for 1 more item my other food was stacked on the counter. My 15 minute wait was 50 and when I got home my food was cold and not what I ordered. When I called to tell them she yelled at me. The rice and chow mein are only so so. China Kitchen is pricey but everything is alright. Madera would benefit from an elevated Chinese restaurant. To date they are all 'meh'. read more

Madera for a visit and came here with family 12+ they were great at accommodating a large group. Egg foo young was pretty good! Mongolian beef plate hit the spot. Price is competitive with others. The food smelled so good all the way home... however when I sat down to eat the egg roll was soggy! The sweet and sour pork was also not crisp like it should be. The wonton soup is the best ever, its light and full of flavor. Then the bbq spair ribs are to die for. They are a little intemadating with the hot peppers but they really are wonderful. Well first off, I'll just say that this place is not receiving 4 stars for the ambiance...very plain, a dozen or so tables and chairs thrown around, typical wall o' pictures of all the dishes...you get the point. The food, however, is really, really good. If you try nothing else, try the sesame chicken, it's my personal fav! And it's also the most expensive thing on the menu...go figure! Was in the mood for Chinese, and decided to come here on the recommendations of a couple of people. I ordered the sweet n sour chicken combo and pot stickers. It's basically a hole in the wall kinda joint with chairs and tables, very plain no decorations except for a giant buddha near the entrance. The pot stickers were ok. A little over fried, but I like my dumplings more steamed. The to go box was 75% pork chow mein with a little fried rice and chicken on the side. Fried rice was old, had only three pieces of sweet and sour chicken (which was good) and the chow mein was crispy. I prefer soft style chow mein but the bbq pork gave it good flavor. The egg roll was also good. Not a bad place, I wouldn't mind coming here again but it's not my first choice for Chinese food. Me and my family have been customers of China Kitchen for years. We love the food and have never had an issue until today. We decided to order out due to the pandemic and thought it would be a great way to help a local business in this time of need. Unfortunately, when we got home to eat our food we noticed that our order was not right we had received the wrong soup, so we called the restaurant back to see if we would be able to get our correct order. My mother explained the situation very calmly and in an understanding tone but the worker on the other end was extremely rude and accused my mother of lying and saying that it was my mothers fault for receiving the wrong order. She would not even listen to my mom to try to resolve the situation, the worker continued to argue and raise her voice and then passed the phone to another worker. My mom tried to explain the situation again to simply get the correct soup, but instead was lectured immediately. Again. Over soup. Because of this terrible customer service, I suggest you take your money else where. No business should ever treat their customers like this, especially in such hard times when everyone in the community is struggling. read more
