China Chef is under new ownership and the new menu is amazing! We ended up here because our first choice was closed. As we started to dig in, realized what a blessing in disguise this was. We ordered orange chicken, chow mein, and a mushroom dish with a light sauce. Everything was incredible and the portions were huge. Normally, I'm not chow mein eater, but these noodles were fantastic. They were slightly al dente and tossed in a delicious sauce. Plus, I loved that all the veggies in here still had a crunch. Their orange chicken might be some of the best I've ever had. Instead of frying, they dredge the chicken in a tempura beer batter. Which offered an almost fluffy crunch paired with a light orange glaze. The owner came over and asked how our meal was and we couldn't stop raving. He gave us a few free cream cheese wontons, and once again, these were nothing short of amazing. The owner also stated he has plans to put in a huge glass case display for whole roasted duck and pork. I'll definitely be back to indulge in some of that! read more

Been craving Chinese food all day and looked forward to going to our favorite place in Clovis. To our surprise, ownership had changed. Apparently they had taken over the business 3 weeks ago. They didn't have dine in menus and provided us menus from previous owners and said the pricing has increased. Ordered what we were used to: Orange Chicken and Mongolian Beef. Disappointed in both. Orange Chicken had a good flavor, but the breading was too much as was the cornstarch. The beef now has bell peppers. Tons of veggies and little beef. Will likely not return. read more

Got the orange chicken with chow mein and bbq pork. Bbq pork is the worst I've ever had. No flavor, very tough meat, wouldn't even give it to an animal. The orange chicken was ok, chow mein was a bit bland. Food was super oily though, and oil flowed out of the togo containers and was all over the inside of the bag. Go find a better spot. read more

Great spot for Chinese food in Fresno. My favorite is the Hong Kong style chow mein combo noodle plate -- always fresh, flavorful, and a solid portion. It doesn't taste like typical American-style Chinese food; it tastes more authentic and traditional. The service is friendly, and the food always comes out hot and satisfying. The man taking my order over the phone asked how spicy I would like my plates and the food was ready when he said it would be. It came with a small egg roll (6) fried rice (0), chow mein (7) and sweet & Sour chicken (5). Normally there are more veggies that I was in the mood for but there were only 3 pieces of pineapple, bell pepper and onions but the chicken was plentiful and tasty but the sauce was too thick an the batter was to much. Loved them all except for the shrimp dish which was over powered by the heavy sauce and shrimp were few and far between, way more veggies than shrimp. They were very generous with all dishes so had a nice portion for four of us plus lots of leftovers. The hostess was very friendly and welcoming. Will be back for more. We used to enjoy dinner at China Chef but haven't been there in a while now. We really enjoy dining in and they moved to Take Out only during covid. One of the things I really enjoyed about their food was that you could order it in a range of spiciness, one being mild and four being really spicy. It was a great way to customize your meal. We did try take out a few times but like our food fresh and hot. By the time it gets home it's been steaming and cooling and...it's just not the same. (The only reason I'm giving them three stars is because they only do take out and no longer offer table service.) read more

I have been coming here for years, but it's under new ownership now. When ordering they said they don't do half orders anymore. I paid over 60$ for this and egg rolls. 7/8/23 Getting lunch! Spicy Vegetable Tofu with Chicken added Chow Fun ordered. Made spicy at a "5" level too! The worker was kind and said it would be ready in 10 min. I went in to get it. The restaurant is take out only. Still, safe and clean. Greeted by kind worker and the order was ready and waiting. Paid for the order and left. Lunchtime! You get a lot! Definitely get your money's worth! My portion was really delicious! They gave a really great amount of tofu and chicken. A great amount of spice and even more delicious with the thick noodles! China Chef has a respectable 4 stars with over 180 reviews and counting. Best of all, this restaurant provides delivery service through GrubHub, Postmates and UberEats. The food, however, is lower end buffet-style quality at best. I ordered one of the family dinners (for two or more people) to be delivered. My selection was Family Dinner B (which averages to be $14.49 per person): fried shrimp, pot stickers, hot and sour soup, pork fried rice, pork chow mein and Mongolian beef. The Mongolian beef has always been a favorite Chinese dish of mine and is usually a good barometer to how good the food taste and quality will be in my opinion. The dish prepared at China Chef fails miserably. The meat quality was not there, it was greasy and overcooked. Same with the pork chow mein. The pork fried rice is practically inedible after you have left it in the refrigerator overnight. The potstickers were good but nothing special. I did enjoy the fried shrimp and the sweet and sour ginger sauce you dip them in. Very disappointing. Perhaps more so because it is only one of a handful of Chinese restaurants in Clovis or Fresno that delivers out to my area. read more

I only ordered a coke from Uber eats. The people working here are so sweet and thoughtful, they packed it with a fortune cookie. Hands-down, the very worst meal I've had in over a year. I don't know what happened, but it completely changed. They didn't understand how to make pan fried noodles with chicken.
