As soon as we looked over the menu, my mouth was already watering. We ordered the aguachiles verdes, the molcajete supreme, and I added a side of fries. When I say the food came out fast, I mean FAST, especially for food this fresh. The wait staff was attentive, friendly, and checked in just enough without being overbearing. The aguachile was honestly one of the best I've had. The green sauce was incredibly flavorful, perfectly balanced, and everything tasted fresh and vibrant. The molcajete supreme did not disappoint. The sauce was rich and delicious, and the portion of carne and shrimp was generous and very satisfying. You can tell care goes into the food here. Like most, we found this place here on Yelp and was not disappointed. Everything was so tasty and the seafood was so fresh. My favorite were the shrimp tacos. So full of sweet and spicy flavors. Thanks for you reply but a waitress should give us the option and not just assume we accept it with the veins still in. At most restaurants we frequent they make sure it's deveined as anyone would have a problem with a vein sticking out this far, cooked at 145 or not. Everything was very good and we're from Fresno with some really good Mexican food places. My son ordered asada tacos. I ordered a campechano taco and a molcajetes. The tacos were great with homemade corn tortillas. The campechano taco was really good with a little crunch mixed in. It was like asada with bits of fried pork rinds. We both ended up eating the molcajetes, it was so good. The sauce had really good flavors and great texture. We had the steak, chicken, shrimp one. Had big pieces of queso fresco and whole beans inside a never ending stone bowl. And the service was excellent (which is nice these days). The girls up front were very nice and helpful. A quaint Mexican restaurant that is known for its flair for food, providing warm hospitality, and serving arguably the best sizzling platters in town. The menu ranges from traditional dishes like their delicious tacos served with handmade corn tortillas, burritos, mariscos (seafood) - including their spin on sushi rolls, Euro-fusion meat and rice dishes, to some of the best molcajetes (traditional meat and/or seafood dishes cooked and served in a mortar) and fajitas I have had in a while. The meat and seafood choices for tacos are asada, al pastor, cabeza, lengua, pollo, tripa, chorizo, campechano (asada and tripa), camaron, and pescado. I have only tried the meats and they were all well-seasoned but not oversalted. They were juicy and tender. The tripa or tripe, however, was cooked extra crispy like they are supposed to be. I have never had a mix of beef and tripe (campechano) together as a meat filling before but highly recommend you try it here. It is a wonderful contrast of juicy, succulent asada with crispy, crunchy goodness of tripa. Their delicious, freshly handmade corn tortillas are my usual first choice for tacos. I will request flour tortillas, however, when ordering the fajitas. The flour tortillas shells are typically sturdier and flatten to be longer to hold heavier fillings. You cannot go wrong with either selection for any dish. It is all personal preference. Unquestionably, the juicy and plump camaron (shrimp) and succulent steak are the highlights of my dining experience at Compa Frank's. Any dish that features or, even better, combines the two I am definitely recommending. I was impressed with the amount of shrimp you get in the molcajetes and fajitas. The steak is also juicy and packed with flavor. The Steak La Mona, $17, is named after Frank's daughter. Melted Mexican-style mozzarella cheese layered over thinly sliced steak and served with rice, beans, and tortillas. It is another dish I would recommend others try. The portions are huge (I have never been able to finish off a plate and will always request a box to put my leftovers for take-out as most patrons seem to do here) and main dishes are reasonably priced with most ranging from $10 to $18. The molcajetes and combination plates are a bit pricier because they are generally larger dishes that are meant to be shared. Frescos, tortas, quesadillas, menudo (weekends only), burgers, nachos, enchiladas, sopes, flautas, and desayunos or breakfast plates round out their menu. They take great pride in their food and it shows. The food is fantastic and they always bring the dishes out, especially the sizzling platters, with a warm smile knowing patrons are in for a treat. Complimentary chips and salsa for dine-in guests. Family-owned and operated for a little over a year now. Compadre Frank, his sons Bennie and Johnny, and the rest of the family have a great thing going. You get a warm vibe the moment you step into the restaurant. Mariachi or ranchera-style music is always playing. However, I do appreciate that the music is not blaring where it becomes intrusive and annoying, and you can easily carry on conversations or just enjoy your meal in peace. The family seems to understand that one of the most important elements of a successful restaurant is the quality of its service. Happy customers like me will generate positive reviews and become regular patrons. The servers always warmly greet me with a smile. Both Mariah and Stephanie are very friendly, and attentive, frequently check up on how I am doing, and seem to enjoy engaging in conversations with customers. Mariah is my personal favorite because she has been my server for three out of my four visits here. She thoroughly knows the menu, having tried most of the dishes, and is great at making suggestions on what to order based on what I am in the mood to try that day. Mariah also seems to go out of her way to make the dining experience personal, like remembering our previous conversations and what I ordered even though the between visits have been weeks apart. Plus, both ladies are attractive and have warm, killer smiles. (Hey, there is nothing wrong with paying people a compliment.) BEST BETS: Fajitas Cielo, Mar y Tierra, Molcajete Cielo, Mar y Tierra, Steak La Mona, Tacos de Campechano y Asada. The only place outside of Fresno County I am willing to travel for food within the Central Valley. (This is a big statement from me because I have not found another eatery worth traveling more than 5 miles from where I live just to eat there again.) Exciting, full-flavored menu items.
