Great hole-in-the-wall taco stand. Prices are fair, patio was clean and well kept with speedy service. We ordered asada and Al pastor tacos and a michelada. The tacos had a generous amount of high quality meat and was clean tasting. The plates came with grilled nopales, onion and a jalapeño. The salsa de rojo had a Smokey flavor and the verde was fresh tasting with a little more spice compared to the rojo, we used both on the tacos and it was well balanced. The michelada can probably use a bit of fine tuning, it lacked flavor compared to the tacos and other micheladas I've had in the past. read more

Came here while in Madera for work. This is a small outdoor shack that serves up tacos and Mexican food at a very good price. Their 3 taco and 32 oz soda special was about $8 at the time of this review. Meat quality is pretty good for cheap tacos. The asada was definitely my favorite. They also come with a side of nopales I believe, marinated onions, and a seasoned jalapeno. They also put raw onion on the tacos so a lot of onion here. read more

I was scheduled to work in Madera and ended up coming across this gem! After seeing the reviews on Yelp and DoorDash, I knew where to go. I ordered 2 tripas tacos and 2 quesabirria through DoorDash. The restaurant was very easy to find. My order was ready by the time I got there. The staff was very friendly. When I got back to work, I was impressed with the size of the tacos and then realized I ordered way too much food! The tripas tacos were amazing!!!!! Probably one of the best portions I've ever had. I ended up sharing my quesabirria with my colleague, but was able to try it as well. The quesabirria was okay, it would probably be better with consume. I came to Chelses with a few of my co workers as they know I love to try new places especially when food is involved. Since I frequent the Madera area quite a bit food options can sometimes be an exciting gem to find. I honestly passed this spot a few times not knowing it was a taco out sport. I honesty LOVE the lay out as it reminds me of my favorite spot in LA minus the alcohol and drunk patrons. The focus here is the food. Their menu is simple but yet delicious. Definitely a unique out door spot, there is out door seating and you can see the cool making your food fresh. The tacos are delicious I got two al pastor and one chicken and it come with a drink but they didn't have lemonade which sucked because I can't have soda pop. The taco meat was well seasoned and tasty. I didn't try the salsas due to none of them looked appetizing to me. So there was no offer of any substitution which suck so I ended up just getting lemon water I made myself, of course using their water and lemons and made my own sugar free lemon drink which was tasty. They have a condiment bar in which if you know me...I will go crazy on the cilantro as it is like my favorite topping for Mexican food. It was kinda hot outside the day we went but they had the mist going to cool us off. I am honestly awaiting the next time I am wanting up go because it definitely reminds me of a beachy spot minus the beach due to the lay out. If you have not tried this place I highly recommend it!!! Chele's Tacos Grill is a hidden gem in Madera CA. My husband and I were passing through and we were craving Birria Tacos. I'm so glad we found this spot. The quesabirria tacos were delicious! I enjoyed them so much that we'll be stopping in Madera more often. Lol The tacos are so flavorful, so filling and crunchy. I love that the tortilla is hand made. That's something most restaurants lack. It was also a large size tortilla and lots of meat. I was impressed with the quantity of the tacos we ordered. Three tacos filled us up. For those complaining about the order not having consomé on the side, y'all tripping. The consomé is not needed because the meat is so juicy. The sautéed onions were bomb! My Serrano pepper was grilled to perfection. I loved that the order came with a side of grilled cactus. I love eating cactus and you don't normally see that unless you order a molcajete. The green salsa was my favorite. My husband liked the red one. I honestly felt like we ate home made food. Thank you so much! So we were driving through Madera and starving. I was having an intense torta craving and my husband found this place on yelp. We weren't sure about it at first because they seem to be better known for their tacos and people were going back and forth from this stand and the convenience store in the same parking lot which was super gross. But we loved it! To start, I waited in the car because we were in a hurry, and the tortas took much longer than we were expecting. We had horchata while we waited and this was THE best horchata I have EVER had. It was incredible. The tortas were worth the wait and were insanely crunchy, in the best way. Since COVID-19 I don't eat out as much. Found this in Madera, CA while cutting through old country roads on the way home. Whew! Talk about GREAT Tasting tacos! Talk about fresh off the grill! Talk about "nice" size taco! Talk about food quality! I found my place! This is the best flavorful tacos I've had in a long time. I had the chicken and the pork and they were scrumptiously good. If you get here before 2:00 pm they have a three (3) taco special. But even if you missed the time, the prices are very reasonable. I paid $8.09 for three tacos. Ordered from them through doordash last thursday (july 9). Both orders of nachos were really big. Nice to see a place serving nopales. Their ceviche tostada is really small. They ran out of pescado ceviche and called to ask if camaron was ok to substitute. (I was actually ecstatic about it because I really wanted shrimp, but fish was all they had on the menu.) Although it was tasty, it was a really small portion compared to other places I've ordered from. And they forgot the avocado that the pictures show on their menu. We also ordered an asada torta con papas. The asada was an EXTREMELY salty meat patty. So salty that it was inedible. The fries were soggy and bland. We also ordered an al pastor taco. Not the juciest pastor, but they gave a good serving. They didn't put any onions or cilantro in the taco as their pictures depict. If it were't for their courtesy call to substitute a missing item, I'd give them 2 stars. read more

Tacos were okay, the meat was very tough/dry and the seasoning was nothing to write home about. Also disliked how the carne asada was so finely minced I was basically eating a ground beef taco. They charge almost a dollar extra for salsa. Money was not worth what we got. Meat was tough and dry which is probably why they mince it so small because it'd feel like chewing rubber tire bits if they didn't :( Fresh made tortillas were a plus though! Stopped by this place on our way home from Yosemite and 0 regrets!! We had grilled chicken tacos and man did they load it up with chicken! The chicken was well grilled and flavorful. There were ladies outside making fresh tortillas and the service was quick. If we ever stop by again I'd love to give more of their food a try. The establishment is a covered but outdoor structure. We saw this place was #1 on Yelp for Al Pastor in Madera as we passed through at lunch time driving out of Fresno to Sacramento yesterday. The first thing I noticed as we walked in to the restaurant was the traditional trompo (vertical rotisserie) of stacked and marinated (often guajillo-ancho chile mix) pork slices rotating below large, dripping pineapple chunks as it is charred to crispy perfection on the exterior sides, leaving the inner slices moist and flavorful. They will slowly slice off the cooked meat in pieces as it becomes ready, exposing the inner surfaces to more heat for another round of flavors to be char-cooked again and again until it is right down to the spit rod. This process can take several days. But know in your heart that you will get your true al pastor as it should be - it will be done to perfection and require nothing further other than cebolla y cilantro in a small corn tortilla for tacos or flour tortilla for burritos. They offered free, one each, guacamole, red and verde salsa but I didn't even use them because the flavor was already there!! And the portions were generous. I finished half of the burrito (which was ~ 50% meat with rice and refried beans) for lunch and the other half was for dinner. They came garnished on our plates with grilled nopales (cactus), cebolla y jalapeno cooked in a red chile salsa of some sort added to the vegetable mix. Those were a bit greasy but perfectly complimented each bite of the burrito. Thank you Cheles Tacos. You deserve to be #1 in Madera. We were glad we found you in our never-ending hunt for authentic Al Pastor on both sides of the border! And rest assured that we'll be back again some day. read more
