Ok my peeps i did it again , I visited a local place in Madera , yup that's right here in Madera and I tell you what bring your big boy bib because the amount of food was unbelievable. The servings of the " serves four" combo was unbelievable we didn't even put a dent in it. The service we received was great our waitress "Anista" I hope I spelled it correctly was on point attentive making sure we were happy and full. The interior was or had been refreshed look nice we got there a little bit early for dinner so plenty of sitting available. Came here tonight for the first time. Have to say, the food was amazing. We had the #4 that included orange chicken, sweet & sour pork, fried rice, chow mein & an egg roll plus the teriyaki chicken plate, egg foo young, fried shrimp appetizer. Everything was excellent! The food here is just not really good anymore. I ordered a combo plate with sweet and sour pork. When I got it home I saw that there was only a very small amount of sweet and sour sauce on the bottom of the styrofoam container. Basically, all of the fried pork pieces were completely dry and hard. Had I still been there and asked for additional sauce, they would have charged me another $1.50. It's CALLED SWEET AND SOUR PORK! A little disclaimer.. the food is amazing and great tasting. I rated it at a 3 stars... due to the wait time for the food. I went into the restaurant to order 2 soups (sizzling rice soup and hot & sour), a dinner plate (fried rice, pork chow mein, chicken sweet n sour, 2 fried shrimp, 2 pievrs of wonton) and a 1 entree plate(almond chicken with pan fried noodles). I understand the place was busy with people picking up and ordering food aside from people doing dine in, but we waited an hour for our food. Aside from the wait time, the food was delicious & tasty. I like the food there. But the last time I went was a few months ago and the waitress was wearing pajama pants and slippers ... Kinda made the food experience a little less than what it should be. Very good, full-flavored Chinese food in Madera. Liu's Village was indeed a pleasant surprise. My review history will not show a five-star review of any Westernized Chinese food restaurant. Liu's Village, however, really seem to do some things right. Dishes ordered: Sizzling Rice Soup ($9.95), Spicy Mongolian Beef ($11.35), Chicken Fried Rice ($8.75), Spicy Kung Pao Shrimp ($11.35) The sizzling rice soup was particularly good. A soothing, savory broth, large slices of chicken, broccoli, carrots and cabbage with the roasted flavor of sizzling rice. A large serving size, hearty and delicious. The spicy Mongolian beef was also a hearty dish, mounds of sliced flank steak and onions loaded on a bed of fried rice or noodles. I thought the sauté was a tad too sweet but I would probably be outvoted in my opinion. (The owners of this restaurant seem to understand the demographics here in Madera and know its clientele well.) Even the chicken fried rice was terrific. Stir-fried to perfection with generous chunks of chicken and vegetables. Perhaps the only dish I was probably not re-order is the spicy kung pao shrimp, which consists of shrimp, cubed zucchini, sliced celery, onions, chili peppers and topped with peanuts. I enjoyed the flavors but they are skimpy on the shrimp. I am guessing you would get more protein if you ordered the dish with chicken. Lunch Specials are all $8.25, served Monday through Friday, 11:00am-3:00pm. There are 3 choices, including Fried Shrimp, Sweet and Sour Pork or Sweet and Sour Chicken, all comes with fried rice, pork chow mein and the soup of the day. A Service for Four meal ($41), comes with a choice of chicken or pork chow mein, pork fried rice, almond chicken, broccoli beef, sweet and sour pork, fried shrimp, egg roll and fried won ton. The menu consists of a la carte dishes, rice plates, chop suey, chow mein, soup, chicken, beef and seafood dishes that all come with fried rice, pan fried noodles or steamed rice. The dishes ordered are nearly all 4.5 stars but the warm, friendly service you get here really puts them over the top for me. Every server greets you, appreciates your patronage, is helpful with making suggestions on what to order, and seem to get a great deal of pleasure watching guests enjoy their meal. They also do a wonderful job keeping the restaurant very clean, despite being very busy and apparently short-staffed. Moreover, the dishes are all generously portioned, well-plated and inexpensive for tasty dishes made with fresh, good quality ingredients. Apparently, others seem to agree. The Fresno Bee recently named Liu's Village as the People's Choice for Best Chinese Restaurant for 2021. I do not understand all the hate this place has received on Yelp, but I feel it is totally unwarranted. Last week I placed an order, this was a pretty big order I paid over $80. I sent someone to pick up for me due to just being out of the hospital post pregnacy. I was so upset when I called and mentioned they forgot to give me my side of fried rice, instead they gave me a side of fried shrimp. She offered to exchange just to take the shrimp back, but one that is food safety they should have not asked for it back, and two she was not understanding I had someone deliver this food to me for a reason I was just out of the hospital I couldnt have gone myself. The owner then told me there was nothing she can do about that and hung up on me. This was very upsetting I order from them daily! they have lost me as a customer, big big inconvinience. read more
