Decided to try this place based on the reviews.... hmmmmm. Usually that works well for me, but not this time. Mind you, I don't consider myself a pho expert by any-means, but in my opinion, the pho here was just adequate - definitely not worth another try... Through my travels I have found the best pho is in the hole-in-the-wall mom & pop places, which this place fit the bill perfectly for. However, the pho was a big let down. Another HUGE let down for me was the cleanliness of the place... or lack there of. Not sure when the last "inspection" was, but I can't imagine this place would ever pass... I should have taken pics of the "piles of crap", but didn't think to until I left. China Jade is a very nice restaurant located in the little shops next door to the continent. I came to China Jade for a late lunch/early dinner. I was met by the female half of the ownership team and just a few minutes later her husband (who is also the cook) came out.. I didn't see anyone else the whole time I was there. I ordered from the luncheon menu. That was a nice touch since I didn't have to take a lot of food home with me. I started off with an appetizer of small cabbage rolls and at them with some of the hot chile sauce they had on the table. For my main course I ordered shrip and pecans. This also came with some other veggies. It was pretty good! And I got a pot of hot tea at the owner's suggestion. And my meal was pretty good and pretty cheap, just a hair over $10. This is, hands-down, my favorite Vietnamese in Columbus. The canh chua is certainly the tastiest I have ever tried and is loaded with flavor, herbs and veggies. They're more than happy to spice any dish to your preference. The rice platters and "meal-in-a-bowl" options are all filling and a great value. They have a phenomenal selection of lunch specials, all around $6-$7 and run prtty frequent specials of sort of "one-off" items that aren't regularly featured. The hu tieu do bien and bun cha gio are always a great choice as well, but anyone I've taken there for Vietnamese has found something wonderful, so I imagine you can pick anything and be pleased. Just a tip, a lot of the Vietnamese options are difficult, if not impossible, to cater to vegetarians, though it's pretty easy to swing pescatarian here. That being said, my highly carnivorous husband is always very pleased with this place. They also have all your favorite Americanized Chinese dishes here, including some pretty tasty tofu dishes. But for my money, the hot and sour canh chua rice platter is simply where it is at. The place is in a strip mall, not much to look at on the inside but it is an amazing place to go sit in for a quiet lunch. They offer take-out as well, which seems to be their bread and butter, as I generally see at least a half dozen people come in to pickup when I'm dining in. The husband/wife duo running the place have always been pleasant to me and now remember my order. All in all, I think this place is worth a go if you're in the area for sure. read more

My boyfriend and I were on our way home and in an old part of town where we used to live. We originally pulled off to grab Subway but saw China Jade and we had heard good things about the place so we decided to give it a try. It was empty when we walked in and ordered for take out. They had a large Chinese selection so we went with traditional orange chicken. All we did was order two orange chicken dinners to go and a side of egg rolls. That came out to OVER $25 Bucks! Wow this must be some good orange chicken I thought. Anyway not too long of a wait as the food was ready in what seemed like less than 10 minutes. When we sat down to eat though....well eew. Maybe I'm missing something here because I had to double check and most reviews of this place are good. This however, was the worst orange chicken I have ever had. It was the most soggy, fatty chicken ever and it was swimming in sauce in the bottom. It was the most chewy tough chicken. It didn't even taste like orange chicken. It just looks like it is swimming in some dark brown salty sauce. Not even spicy like orange chicken is supposed to be. Not an ounce of spice. It was blah. I choose orange chicken for the crispy, the sweet and the spice and I got soggy, mushy salty yuck. I could only stomach a few bites and the same with my boyfriend. We both were not impressed. I nibbled on the egg roll because I was so hungry I was shaky and wanted some food. The egg roll wasn't even good and I couldn't even finish that. As soon as I took a bite I was greeted by way too much oil and an odd taste. My boyfriend didn't even bother to touch his egg roll. What a waste of basically $30 bucks. We should have stuck to the plan and went to Subway. We had to go back out to buy different food for dinner. I will NEVER eat there again and I won't recommend that place to anyone I care about. Ostensibly this place is Chinese and Vietnamese, but per the advice of alteatscolumbus.com, you should probably stick to the Vietnamese selections toward the back of the menu. Or, like me, just ask what they recommend. We started with the jellyfish appetizer. The jellyfish itself had very little flavor, but it was pleasantly chewy. The dressing was light and sweet. When you add in the thinly sliced veggies that are part of this little salad you end up with a dish that is epitome of summer. This was refreshing and everything I could possibly ask for on a hot day. (It was not, in fact, hot when I visited but this dish made me wish it was.) I would go back to China Jade just for this dish. Next, on the recommendation of the server, I had the grilled pork chop. If pork chops are not what come to your mind when you think of Asian food it's probably because you haven't had the pork chop at China Jade. This was a seriously good piece of pig. It had a flavorful crust on the outside and was tender and juicy inside. Next time I want a pork chop I will probably go to China Jade. The ambiance is about what you'd expect from a mom and pop asian restaurant. It's nice, but casual. A step above a hole in the wall, perhaps, but not much. The service was competent. The prices were on the high end of reasonable. From what I read on alteats, I'd probably stick to the dishes recommended by the servers, but the food I had tonight was about as good as food can be. read more

Some of the best ethnic restaurants in town are in dive shopping malls. This place is no exception. Looks can be deceiving, indeed. I've been coming here for over ten years. Best Vietnamese food in Columbus, hands down! My usual visit starts with Vietnamese Iced Coffee (French Iced Coffee). Then I order shrimp and pork spring rolls made in the traditional style rolled with rice paper, bean sprouts and mint. Main course I order Rice Vermicelli Noodles mixed in with cucumbers, bean sprouts, basil and other herbs with grilled pork and fried Vietnamese egg rolls cut up. All mixed together. Yum. Owners don't even bother bringing me a menu, they just ask if I want my usual. Chinese and Vietnamese menu, but go for the Vietnamese, you won't be disappointed. Awesome place! Having recently moved to Columbus from Oklahoma City (where there was a huge Vietnamese population and tons of pho places)....this place was "just okay." I love pho and am scoping out different places to find my favorite in Columbus. This place would not be it. For one, cleanliness is is a big thing for me. I understand that a restaraunt doesn't have to be trendy to be good.....but this place was really dirty on some places (such as the entrance). I was like "Uhm.....wow!" And clean the windows......bleh! The spring rolls were pretty good, but the Pho Dac Biet was a smaller portion than normal with not much meat in it. The flavor of the broth was pretty good, but I wasn't too impressed with the actual pho itself. There was a pretty limited Vietnamese menu and it appears the restaraunt specializes in Chinese. The Chinese food looked pretty good and I'd go back to try that. But as for pho, I'll continue my search elsewhere. read more

I've been here a few times because it's next door to my stylist and I'm always hungry after being there for a few hours =). It's a humble, casual little place in a little strip mall. The people that work there are nice, although on occasion I've had to wait for someone to come out from the back to greet me (granted, I have only ever been there for late dinner. Maybe it's different during peak times). The food is OK, but I don't think it's particularly special. The servings are large though, and they are always pretty fast, so I'm not complaining. Has a new owner or cook took over this business? Food and service used to be above average but I'll not go back based on my latest experience. Observations: (1) Menu said $7.95 but they tried to charge $8.95 on the bill. When asked why this lady tells me that she's included $1.00 for tea. This is news to me as this isn't the first time here. Are they lying or trying to nickel and dime me? I'm not complaining about the $1.00 but the deceiving business practice. (2) Pho came out without any standard condiments you get: sprouts, cilantro, lime, hot pepper. Asking for condiments she tell me that sprouts are in the bowl under the noodle. Huh? Since then Vietnamese Pho is built like that? Is this another nickel and dime strategy the restaurant is putting in place in order to cut the amount of noodle used? It's the worst dining experience I have ever had. Table was dirty and none of the employees or chef were wearing a mask during this pandemic. The waitress did not even ask if we want anything to drink or even gave us a glass of water. We could hardly understand one word the waitress say. I ordered a rare beef noodle soup and usually it comes with a small dish of bean sprouts, mint , and lime. I had to ask for it and the waitress was so rude. "You want more bean sprouts? Yes or no? " If you want shrimp and beef lo mein, please just order house lo mein because they charge you $2.95 more on top of the price for shrimp lo mein. We will never go back again. They have good "authentic" Asian food and they give you nice big portions. Service was only fair. But we were the only ones dining in and I think they concentrate more on the carry-out side. So they are really more "behind the counter" and you might have to wait for a refill. Egg rolls are nothing to write home about, but the garlic chicken and entrees are delicious. This is in a strip mall behind the Bob Evans, so it might be hard to find unless you are looking for it. It's kind of a funky neighborhood, and there aren't a lot of choices nearby. I haven't been to China Jade in a few years, but I was in the area and wanted to give it another try. I am on a Pho Dac Biet hunt all over Columbus. Well, this is one of the worst Pho I have tasted. First off when the pho was presented, I did not receive the usual "extras" on the side, bean sprouts etc. Then the broth, although extremely temp hot, (a plus) it had a dirt flavor to it. The best I could determine the included bean sprouts may have been a little on the spoiled side. Then the noodles included looked and tasted like glass noodles (mung bean) instead of rice noodles. Table condiments only included sriracha, hoisin and soy sauce. On the way out, I saw another table (of 2) having the side veggie tray. Confused, but I was on a quickie lunch break and didn't have time to complain. I just ate what I could and wanted to escape as quick as possible. Needless to say, I won't be back. China Jade by far the "best" pho restaurant! I have tried pho from all over the Columbus for years. because my children love it. Pho broth is made from beef bone. They cook for hours and hours to the rich flavor. They also turn into jello once refrigerated. One day, I decided to buy pho soup from all over town, did my tasting and put all the soup into my refrigerator. China Jade was the only soup to turn jello. It's a real bone soup! Once I look into deeper, they have been getting their bones from Mansfield for over 20 years. A lot of the restaurants can make pho broth by powder / msg/ food enhancer. All the cooking is done by owner himself. Our favorite, other than pho, hot pot! Lots of vegetables and meat to your liking. Bamboo beef! We usually ask to cook little longer and add more pepper because we like it spicy! their fried egg roll raped around lettuce, pork chops, chicken wings, their salad, beef flat needles, fried rice, basically all their food is excellent and tasty! You can taste food not just soy sauce. Good flavor worth all your money and trip. You can trust their food. I don't take my family to certain restaurants in town due to food mis handles and out dated meats. This place is by far the best pho restaurant and Chinese food. Very clean and clean restroom. :) Our family and friends eat at this place every week! We try other new Asian restaurants but always comes back to China Jade! Bravo to owners!!! read more

My favorite place in Columbus for Vietnamese. I would never go here for normal Chinese dishes, they're likely very average in that area. All Asians I know go here for Vietnamese only. Their pho is excellent, though recently they've gotten a little more stingy on portions. Their Vietnamese spring rolls, the ones in the clear wrap, are delicious. I've never found anywhere that makes it better, the only place that comes close is the pho place on lane near campus. This is a small, authentic Vietnamese restaurant with the best pho beef soup I've ever had, owned by a kind, old Vietnamese couple. I have tried many pho (if not all) restaurants in Columbus, and this one here is by far the best and the most authentic. I have also traveled to Vietnam and this restaurant has pho closest to the ones I've had in Vietnam. Their spring rolls and Yu vegetables with beef are also very good. This place is so tasty! This is currently the only place I have found that serves lettuce with their Vietnamese eggrolls and the fish sauce is delightful. I've been to about 9 other Pho places looking for this. The broth is good, flavorful on its own, the chicken is tender and delicious and they are not stingy with the limes! The place is a little scary but I got take out and didn't eat in and after picking up the food- wouldn't choose to do so.
