Lucky Dragon was my first visit, and it gave me exactly what I hope for from a new restaurant: one dish I'd gladly reorder and another that completely changed my opinion. The Spicy Szechuan Chicken was my favorite. The chicken was tender, the vegetables still had some texture, and the sauce brought enough heat without overpowering the dish. The portion was generous and easily worth the price. The biggest surprise was the House Egg Foo Young. I'd avoided ordering it for years because I'm not a big egg fan, and the traditional brown sauce never looked appealing. My mom ordered the sauce on the side, and I'm glad she did. It let me appreciate the crispy exterior, soft center, and shrimp-filled patties without everything being covered in sauce. I'd recommend first timers order it that way. My only disappointment was the Wonton Soup. I usually order wonton soup anywhere that serves it, but this broth was bland and a little greasy for my taste, and I didn't care for the slices of pork that came with it. A few things future visitors might appreciate: * Large portions that make leftovers likely. * Quiet dining room that was comfortable for conversation. * Plenty of free parking. * Lunch specials starting around $9.95 before 3 p.m. * A menu that goes well beyond the usual Chinese takeout favorites. The place was nice, looked bigger as you walk it, it's an actually sit down restaurant where they sometimes have events, karaoke. I hadn't ordered here in a few years, but I was craving Chinese food and remembered that my last experience getting delivery here was good, so I gave it another go. I spent about $35 and ordered sesame tofu, crab rangoon, and a spring roll. The crab rangoon was fine, although there were two that were burnt. The spring roll was pure grease. The sesame tofu was swimming in so much liquid that it looked like it was a soup. It escaped the container it was put in and spilled in the bag, which caused the other items to get soggy. It was also so gelatinous that it was hard to get down. I tried my best to eat some of it, but I couldn't. I ended up tossing it. I don't know why this experience and my previous one were so different, but I won't be ordering from here again. read more

We also sampled Lo Mein that disappeared faster than your uncle's retirement plan, Wor Su Gai that had the whole table asking "what is this deliciousness?", and a steady stream of dumplings (steamed and fried--because we're inclusive like that). Really good basic Chinese/asian fare. And fast. If you live in the neighborhood and want a quick fix, go for it. You won't be dissatisfied

Pretty good! Came with a party of 9, and the food (a bit more than pictured) came out really quickly for the amount. It wasn't the most authentic but definitely a step up from the usual Americanized Chinese. There was a close mix of Asian and white patrons, which is telling. Most of the members of my party speak Chinese and laughed and chatted along with our waitress, who was great. She also made sure to communicate in Chinese and English to make sure everyone was on the same page, which was extra sweet and appreciated. The veggies were very very yum, as was the roasted duck. The deep fried chicken dishes didn't look very appealing to me, but the tofu with shrimp was p good. Personally this isn't generally the kind of Chinese food I'd go for on my own, but it's a good place for a large party or to bring people who are pickier when it comes to Chinese food. So a popular Asian restaurant ordering platform (CBus) sends me a $10 off $30 today. Let's try someplace new. Been craving Double Cooked Pork, but the Americanized version (ie, not pork belly or char siu, just random pig meat - but also with cabbage, bamboo, onion and carrots). This place in Clintonville apparently has it on menu. I order up that, hot sour soup, Vietnamese fresh rolls and a couple of egg rolls. Have to say my first visit here a couple years ago was pretty disappointing. But with the coupon, WTH. Most everything was actually pretty tasty. My only grouse, and the resulting loss of a rating star, was portion size. These plastic takeaway containers sure are shrinking. The main dish (dinner pricing), soup, and egg roll were a bit petite compared to what I've been getting elsewhere. The fresh rolls were of typical size. HSS was quite good, plenty of ingredients and a nice broth. Glad I picked up two. I'd buy a couple quarts if it were on menu (and actually quart-sized). Egg rolls were chicken-based. I thought a place listed as being Cantonese would have better than these were, maybe char siu instead? Nope. Pass next time. Viet rolls were fine, nothing overly remarkable, seemed freshly made and arrived with hoisin/peanut dip. Double cooked pork was what I'd hoped. (Hunan House had the best but they yanked it off menu for some reason.) Could use a bit more sauce and heat, but I'll doctor up the leftovers a bit in the wok. Place was a ghost town during prime time lunch. Glad I chose takeaway. Staff appeared less than enthusiastic if not a bit sleepy. But hey, it was humpday! read more

I picked up some lunch portions of classic Chinese entrees from Lucky Dragon. I went for the sesame chicken and beef with vegetables (both $9 at lunch). The beef was tender and flavorful, and it was teeming with fresh vegetables! A delicious dish that felt healthy! The sesame chicken was classic Chinese American comfort food. The chicken was crisp without being greasy, and the broccoli was cooked nicely as well. The white rice was light and fluffy and I thoroughly enjoyed both entrees. So pleasantly surprised! I think this is my new favorite Chinese restaurant in town! Our server was very nice and helpful. The food was absolutely amazing. So fresh and flavorful. We even saw a young woman snapping the ends of string beans by hand and we were impressed by that. It's nice to know they weren't frozen, canned, or already bagged and processed with the ends off; but no they were fresh! Lucky Dragon is a great restaurant with excellent food, kind service, and a calm ambiance! The food is more of American Chinese style I think but the food I've gotten there is always delicious with plenty of flavor and ingredients that make the food stand out (I.e. there's actual orange peel and chilis in the orange chicken and nice broccoli to go with it!). The drinks are also great! I've had both hot tea (which is always good) and boba tea (which is also great lol) but I'm pretty sure they have a variety of other options too. The overall environment of the restaurant is also very relaxing, it has many pretty decorations and comfortable furniture. There is usually not a lot of people which is nice since it adds to the calm atmosphere (but it'd also be great if more people came)! The service is great! In terms of food, the food comes out at a reasonable time and is hot. In regards to the staff, every waiter I've met so far has been very kind, patient, and friendly! If you can't tell, I really enjoy coming here so I would definitely recommend it. There are also some stores nearby that are cool to checkout while you are there. Stop in here frequently for lunch and it is always good. A wide arrange of options and a surprising array of wine and cocktails. They have all the classic Chinese inspired dishes but also a wide selection of traditional Chinese cuisine. I've been here for takeout and dine-in over the years. I'm not someone who sticks to one dish and never tries anything new. Everything I've had is good. Soup, pad thai, Kung pao chicken, fried rice, egg rolls, etc. They are excellent for a large group of people. If you have a big party let them know ahead of time and they will make sure you get the big tables in the back. Cons: there was almost no flavor to the food. My fiancé can eat anything (and I mean ANYTHING) and he couldn't eat more than 2 bites of the pad Thai. I came to Lucky Dragon for the first time when it still had the awful buffet. It back then was so bad it kept me away until recently. They changed into a table service restaurant with much better food. It's not the cheapest food now but reasonable. They have lots of authentic Chinese. I checked out the menu and decided to start with a basic entree. It had several tofu items. The family bean curd is about $5 for lunch. It was a good choice. The tofu was crispy on the outside while savory on the inside. It was good enough to help me forget how bad this place was. The sesame tofu is about $7 for lunch. It has some good cocktails. They also have an authentic menu. I would for sure come back to Lucky Dragon. It was worlds better than it was before. They have some good cocktails to go along together. read more

Pleasant surprise! The dishes were made with good quality ingredients and were well executed, the setting was pleasant (including tablecloths), and the service was attentive. I had one of my "test" dishes... eggplant and chicken with brown sauce which is often available and rarely done well. It was delicious. The sauce as LIGHT (not the dark sweet gunk that is often used), the eggplant was unpeeled (and sweet), and the meat was chicken breast. I loved the addition of bamboo that gave a crispiness to a dish that is too often soogy. Husband had their deluxe Kung Pao. Again, the sauce was delightfully light and the ingredients good quality. He loved it. I am sorry to say that I have passed this restaurant many times and didn't stop. This is NOT a mediocre University fast food that I assumed it was. read more

Let's clear the air here folks. That dimly lit, grungy $4.95 buffet is long gone history. In its place is this surprisingly nice upscale restaurant that can hold its own against any other Asian eatery in town. It attracts a mostly young Asian following with its huge menu of savory Vietnamese noodle soups, spicy - exotic Authentic Chinese dishes plus all the standard Americanized Chinese comfort foods many of us grew up on. It's worth seeking out for anyone wanting a combination of good quality dishes at reasonable prices. While their food is typically wonderful, I find that one of their strong selling points are their awesome Polynesian drinks like Mai Tais, Zombies and Scorpions. Andrew and Serena are the ones that make these delicious drinks and they doesn't skimp on the booze. They are fun, flavorful and they will kick your butt for just $5.95 each. Now I can knock back some alcohol but I'll be damned if I will drink more than 2 of these. I gotta drive, you know? This is definitely an above average Asian restaurant and it's one of my favorites in town. I'm giving these folks 5 stars with one of those little paper umbrellas on top. And A Little Addendum: Take out orders get a 5% discount. Recommended dishes: Get the Seafood Hot Pot, any Vietnamese noodle soups, any Hunan, Kung Pao or Schezuan style dish, Scallops with Black Pepper Sauce, Lettuce Wraps, Mala String Beans, Vietnamese Fresh Spring Rolls. I was a bit leery walking up to Lucky's, but inside it is much, much nicer. Old-school Chinese, in a good way, both in decor and regarding the food. Service was very good. I ordered crab Rangoon, which were decent if nothing special. A fair amount of crab, which was nice. Okay, probably fake crab, but still. They brought out an egg roll, which I hadn't noticed came with lunch. Very average, but the sweet and sour sauce was good- not the typical syrupy (in texture and flavor) stuff. Since I came at lunch there weren't many authentic Chinese dishes on the menu; I'll come back for those sometime. I got orange beef, and it was among the best I've had. Too often it is tough lumps of beef, with too much crust and way too much sauce. This was just right- tender, crispy, not drowning in sauce. It's a bit out of my way so I can't say I'll be back often, but it's a solid Chinese place and the menu is worth exploring. read more

I don't know how long ago Lucky Dragon changed from the cheap student slop-bucket it once was to the full service Asian place it now is. Gone is the hot plate, steamy buffet full of MSG and starchy freezer-to-oven oriental cliches, that for a five-spot could pack a hungry stomach then leave it as suddenly as it came. (The once Big Bear across the street was a convenient place for Pepto Bismol after eating contests with friends.) Today there is no need for an after dinner Giant Eagle run. Lucky has become a midscale oriental place featuring dishes from through-out the Far East. The food is of great quality and is delicious. I came to celebrate Chinesse New Years. I was impressed how the place has changed. Gone is the old counter; in is a small bar. Gone are the diner-like booth and glass dividers; in is a brightly lite and roomy interior with smaller booths and large family-like tables. Gone is the buffet smell, a mixture fishy steam of cheap chicken, burnt rice, and cold noodles; in is cleanliness, helpful servers, and mouth watering food. I had a taste of several cuisines. My app was Vietnamese Spring Rolls. They were fresh and tasty, with rice,veggies and shrimp in a roll of translucent rice paper. A flavorful and well cooked Lo Mein was my main. I chose chicken and it was good and not over loaded with noodles. In addition a friend generously treated the group with several apps. From that I had a normal spring roll which was average if not a little burnt, and some very impressive steam dumplings with flavorful pork. On the round table was a lazy Susan that made sharing a simple turn; that was a nice touch. Accepting an offer of others, I tried a bite of a couple meals novel to me. Spicy Squid tasted like a stringy breaded Bluegill to me and was good. It came with jalapeños but I didn't try the two together; the smelt was very interesting. They looked like little Sardines caught in a zucchini and fried together. They tasted pretty good too, just like they look, seafood caught in zucchini and fried together. I think I may try that as an entree soon. Maybe. They were somewhat salty to me; they may make a nice finger starter; I am not sure I'd like a full plate. It would be a mistake not to mention the Mai Tai. Wow! The balance of rum and fruity mixture was right on. I've been getting food from this place since it opened. The menu was always amazing. The last time I came was about 6 months ago and I read online that it was under new oownerahip. I really hoped that since the menu was the same that it would truly be the same taste and quality that I've come to expect from this restaurant but I have to say that I was disappointed. Ordered two things on this order... 1.) Hong Kong style dumpling soup- previously they had packed the dry ingredients separately from the broth to avoid the dumplings getting too soggy. I noticed the box was smaller than I expected but knew everything was there. Everything was already in the package. I noted there used to be pieces of pork and they were notably missing. Also, that broth had a a weird taste to it and was seriously under seasoned. So dissapointed. 2.) combination pan fried noodles- it came packed I in separate containers and the amounts were the same. The curry shrimp was incredible! The menu didn't give much detail so I asked if it came with veggies& the waitress said she thought it did. It did, and they were all perfectly tender-crisp! I ordered from here after an exam as a little treat and I don't usually review food places but i'm disappointed lmao I got orange chicken with fried rice, an egg roll, crab rangoons, and a boba. None are great. The egg roll is good no complaints. The boba has a horrible texture like the tapioca pearls were frozen and thawed or something idk but it's bad. Fried rice is fine but no egg or veggies in it. The rangoons have a weird texture too like it was frozen and thawed also very little filling and little to no cream cheese. The orange chicken is weird. The sauce is very liquidy and tastes like they took sweet and sour chicken and then just squeezed and orange over top of it. Not the worst thing in the world but not really what you want when you're expecting typical americanized orange chicken lol. Anyway I was disappointed and figured there must be a better chinese takeout place in columbus that you could find (should've just gone w panda express this is what I get for trying to be fancy) read more
