While I must admit that it has been a few years since I have enjoyed a meal from a Chinese restaurant, I was a little surprised at my meal from here. After taking the container out of the bag, I immediately noticed the size, or the smaller size of the container. I ordered Sweet & Sour Chicken with Chicken Fried Rice and an Egg Roll all for $12.25. The container was half the size of any other container I have received from a Chinese restaurant and of course, the portions were smaller than before. While the fried chicken pieces were industry standard, the chicken fried rice had chucks of white chicken in a dark color fried rice. The egg roll was good and industry standard. I'm a straight to the point person. I don't Sunday drive in the middle of a weekday evening rush hour. I don't go to the movies having ZERO idea what to watch before I get there. I don't spend time lollygagging like most people. I don't go to the mall aimlessly strolling around with no purpose but just to people watch. If I go to the mall I know exactly want I want, I'm in there making a purchase and then I'm out. The point of all this is to say I like my food straight to the point as well. If I order and Im given a time it's ready, once I arrive I expect it done. If I order a type of food, there is a straight to the point taste expectation that is expected by me too. This place met all my expectations and was straight to the point. The online ordering is seemless. You walk in to pay, you get maybe a straight to the point greeting without a bunch of small talk, you pay, they give you your receipt and food, and boom your out the door. Once eating your food it's plump, fresh, piping hot morsels of General Tso's chicken and nice firm, freshly made Lo Mein. What more else to say other than it's been a mainstay in Hilliard for generations, it's better and visually cleaner on the inside than the other spot by the battery store down the street, it's also better than the spot on Hilliard Rome Rd close to the round about in the plaza across from McDonalds. Hidden , and selfishly I like it that way but the experience (i.e. food, price and customer service) is too good not to share. I've been going here for a little over a year and I've had everything from orange/ General Tso's chicken, shrimp foo young, chicken/shrimp fried rice, minced chicken, curry shrimp and shrimp with broccoli ( and there is more). Everything I've eaten here has been excellent and I keep trying new dishes. I always start with the hot n sour soup and then depending on hunger, I may opt for the minced chicken wraps. I love this place, and the service is great. I may be greedy at times, but that's because the food is great. The location is in a strip mall down towards the end where DMV and driving school is located . Trust me you will not be disappointed. Stopped in with my boyfriend for dinner on a Friday evening. After working our way with our questions and requests with some communication issues, we shared an order of Chicken Teriyaki, which was really good. I also had Won Ton Soup which was ok but had a lot of sesame oil in it. The Wor Su Gai had very crisp and tasty chicken however the side of gravy had so much flour in it, that is all I tasted. The fried rice was just rice with soy sauce. No flavor. My boyfriend ordered Lo Mein which was really good. If we come back, I will order this instead. read more

It is a decent size, no real decor going on, however good for parties from 4-6 people. Can get a little warm if the lunch rush is in and the kitchen is at work all at once. Customer Service: The customer service here was great, all waitresses were attentive. No real complaints about their hospitality. Quality/Quantity: The quality of the food was good. It looked great just a tad bland. I will have to give a different dish a try the next time to make sure it wasn't just me. This restaurant has been in Hilliard for as long as I can remember. Every time I get take out here they are quick, consistent, nice, and most importantly their food is GREAT. It looks like this recently just remodeled the inside which is nice. I like their combination orders with a main dish, side of chicken fried rice and a side for $10. Grand China is close to 270, near the Taco Bell on Cemetery, so easy to get to. Super friendly staff. Has a family run feel. Simple dining room. Quick and attentive service. Nice menu selection. Once upon a time, i lived in Hilliard within a prison camp type apartment complex right behind the strip mall where Grand China resides. The restaurant was in easy walking distance, served up very tasty food at a decent price, and soon became my standby Chinese eatery. I am a bit embarrassed to admit that that was almost ten years ago and i haven't been back since. I don't crave Chinese cuisine very often these days. I vaguely remember some stir fried chicken dish that was sweet and hot and really hit the spot. I remember something a little more exotic that contained perhaps paddy straw mushrooms and was savory. Lately I've been going to Grand China in Hilliard for take-out, ever since the Asian Express place went 'off the reservation'; the extra drive time seems worth it to me. Items labeled spicy are just that (have pulled 4 red chilies out of my Szechuan Chicken just now as I eat); lots of assorted veggies in my dinner, which is a plus as other places are cutting back on what they put in a dish. Sauce is a bit on the sweet side. The hot & sour soup is as I expect it; peppery, bit of vinegar, lots to it. Modest wait for take-out orders; you can dine in too, but the dining room is kind of a dump. Prices are fairly standard (dinner chicken entree and soup cost me $9). I like to visit a place at least twice before putting in a Review. My husband works near this restaurant and has raved about it so I thought we would give it a try. We ordered take out both times so I cannot review the service while dining in. The take out service was excellent though. When I placed my order via phone the woman who took my information was friendly and willing to take time to answer my questions. My payment was processed quickly and she was very appreciative of my business. When I went to pick up my order on my second visit, she informed me right away that my order would be a few minutes. When everything was packed up, she added some free donuts and a Chinese calendar. Our first order was Egg Drop Soup, Crab Rangoon, Sesame Beef, General Tso's Chicken, Shrimp Cashew. We got some orders w/steamed rice and some with fried. The Egg Drop Soup was thick, rich, and very flavorful. The Crab Rangoon was some of the best I have ever tasted. Lots of crab flavor. The Sesame Beef came with two broccoli spears. It was a great flavor. The General Tso's also came with two broccoli spears and had a nice bite to it. Not too spicy, not too mild. Perfect for me. The breading was very light and the chicken was moist. The Shrimp Cashew was some of the best I have had. Generous portion of shrimp, vegetables that remained slightly crisp, and a nice honey ginger type sauce. Both rices were perfectly cooked. Our second order consisted of Egg Drop Soup and Crab Ragoon again. (We loved them that much.) Our entrees were Beef Chow Mein, Shrimp with Lobster Sauce, and Orange Chicken. The Beef Chow Mein was really good. Very flavorful. Lots of veggies and beef. The Shrimp with Lobster Sauce was not as thick as some restaurants may serve. It was almost a soup. I poured it over white rice. Delicious. The Orange Chicken generally comes with two broccoli spears. I asked for extra broccoli and they complied. Nice flavor. Perfect bite of spice. Light breading and generous pieces. We really enjoyed this restaurant and will definitely go again. The only downside is I wished some of the dishes had more veggies, but they are willing to add more if you ask. I wish more rice came with the dishes. We ran out of rice before we finished the entrees. The restaurant itself is in a little strip mall and doesn't have much ambiance, but it is clean and servicable. read more
