Sauce Katsu Don with miso
Saphace A.

My friend suggested coming down here for lunch. It closed too early to come for dinner. I found parallel parking a block away while my friend found a spot right in front! It's tiny. Only a few options for seating. Most people ordered takeout anyway. I ordered the sauce katsudon with a side of miso soup while my friend tried the Osaka Tonkatsu Don. We both chose chicken. It's 2 pieces on rice and cabbage but our sauces were different. Delicious! There aren't a ton of places in town that serve katsu to my knowledge. It's definitely better that Tensuke Market lol Portion sizes were not bad. It wasn't as heavy as I thought it would be for lunch. Not sure if I'm going to have the chance to come back since it's all the way downtown and serves mostly the workers in the area. It was easy to find parallel parking but it's out of the way for me. Probably one of the best katsu in town!

TUNA MAYO ONIGIRI

My friend and I went tonight and I just have to say incredible. Absolutely incredible. We recently went to Japan so we were super excited to try this place and I can confidently say we were not let down. It's a cozy restaurant that offers different forms of katsu (curry, katsudon, sandwich, etc) and onigiri. We both got the katsu curry and a tuna mayo onigiri and we cleaned our plates. The flavor of the curry was perfect and the katsu was cooked to perfect. The tuna mayo onigiri was so refreshing and was made fresh. The owner Coz is so kind and it's his and his family's restaurant. The food they prepared was delicious and really felt like we were back in Japan. We can't wait to go back. Absolutely recommend!

Noticed this driving by, and then saw a few people post about it. When I worked at Honda they would often have a different Japanese dish in the cafeteria each day. I liked the katsu don there, and the Japanese curry, which was kind of like a beef stew with meat and potatoes and carrots, but in a curry sauce. They have curry katsu here, so I got that. They also have many other katsus that looked interesting. Also, they have onigiri, so I got one to take home. I've seen them all around town lately. I think the place that makes those is shutting down soon though, so go get them while you can. They are a nice little snack, meat and rice wrapped completely in seaweed. The katsu was excellent. Tender inside, crispy outside. Just barely soft enough to pull apart with chopsticks. The curry sauce was rich and flavorful, though not spicy at all. Served with perfect rice, and shredded cabbage. The place is tiny. It was packed at 1:30pm on a weekday, and by that I mean there were maybe 15 people there. Probably best to do carry out, although they have tables of assorted sizes. Service was super friendly, and the food came up pretty quickly. Parking is, well, downtown, but I found a spot right in front, again on a weekday though. I will definitely be back.

What a superb restaurant in Downtown Columbus, OH! It opened in March 2025 and was a welcome surprise during a mid-June 2025 visit. I stopped here for an early dinner around 5pm after a pleasant late afternoon visit to the Ohio Statehouse (which is one block north of the restaurant on High Street). Lots of pluses! First, the interior was modern and very cozy. While most orders are for carryout, I decided to stay at one of the modest tables. This place is good for solo diners - but does not provide enough tables for large groups. Second, the Osaka donkatsu dish (only $10.99) was hearty and deeply satisfying (well worth the wait). Third, I would recommend getting a drink (e.g., Sprite or Ocha) to relax and enjoy with your meal. I would guess that most customers arrive here for lunchtime. But their dinner service was excellent. If this location was a bit closer to the Convention Center, I would probably visit more than once. Strongly recommend a visit here if you enjoy Katsu curry!

What a cute little store and so inviting. The owners did a great job at creating a warm and cool environment. There's street and garage parking available around the area. There's a decent amount of seating inside, including big tables and single seats. They're still expanding their menu and items but all what they had was very good. We got the Katsu Curry and Ton Katsu Teishoku. The chicken and pork were cooked well, not dry, and breaded with quality panko. Their miso soup is rich and delicious! I would recommend upgrading to their Ton Jiru soup, it's very good. Everything was decently priced, seasoned well, and felt authentic. I think the pork cutlet has been the best I've had in town! Their sauces were so good and the entire meal was flavorful, made well, and with quality ingredients! We got to speak to the owner for a bit and they're a wife and husband pair. They're both from Japan and many of the ingredients they use are imported from Japan. They take time to prep their meats and make sure that it's as authentic as possible. They talked to us about their experiences and their lives. The owners were so nice and gave us some samples of their soups, which we will be back for them all! I would recommend this place for authentic Japanese, good food, a great vibe, and to support a small business! Great place, we'll be back.

Loved this place!! We came on a Saturday afternoon and were able to find paid street parking right in front of the restaurant. The shop is small and the menu is simple, but the food and the overall vibe was so good and authentic! The flavors were great, katsu was cooked perfectly, and definitely felt authentically Japanese. Great casual place for a quick meal! Would definitely come back!

This place was really good! I thought the prices were also very fair for what you get. Was not expensive and a good deal for the food. I thought the food itself was really tasty, the chicken was tender, and afterwards I felt satisfied. The friends I was with also enjoyed their dishes as well! We also did not have to wait long for the food at all. I don't live in this area, but it if I did or worked around there I feel like it would easily become one of my normal go-to spots to eat! I recommend it if you want a chill place to grab some food, but that's also very tasty and not expensive!

Chicken katsu don is ok. Not too much meat compared to other places. I haven't tried the other food on the menu though

HEELE KATSU DON with chicken

Came here with friends and so glad we did. I admit this place is small and we were lucky to find a table. However I found it cozy. You have to order up front and once we did we each got a number. I ordered the Heele Kastu Don with chicken instead of pork. I was blown away but how delicious this simply meal was. The chicken was juicy and crunchy and it was a good portion. The service was excellent and they were very kind. I would definitely come back.

Super friendly service with a regular crowd of locals, and a modern vibe that feels about as close as you'd want to get to Japan without feeling too cliche. Food is solid, the pork soup is actually delicious and worth every penny of the upgrade. The pork katsu is a thinner cut than the current fad of really thick cuts, and was tasty but maybe not a home run for me (gotten too used to thicker cuts?). A bit unsure on rating, but I feel more inclined to round up here.

Excellent Tonkatsu in town!! Great tiny spot grabbing lunch before the show. Self service and generous portion!

Already looking forward to the next visit! Food is incredibly fresh, flavorful, light, and delicious. Miso soup is excellent. The finely shredded cabbage is so nice with a delicate sesame dressing. Meat was tender and free of fat, with perfect breading. Large cups of freshly brewed Houjicha tea. The best part is that the owner and chef came out to greet us at the end of the meal, and told us proudly how certain items are prepared. I love a restaurant where the food is made with intention and care. Mochi are soft and filled with red bean paste. The lights at Columbus Commons are up until Feb. 16. Take a winter walk in the park and warm up at Osaka!

Katsudon
Ha N.

My friends and I tried this place after seeing videos of it on social media and it did not disappoint!!! The place is pretty small, so not ideal for a group larger than 4. I got the Katsudon and my friends got the curry, and everything was crispy and flavorful. Probably my favorite katsu I've had in Columbus. The batter is light and the meat was moist. The person helping us (I think he might be the owner?) was so so sweet and helpful. My friends and I all loved our food and would highly recommend this place to everyone. 10/10. It is street parking, so if you have trouble with that then you can park in the Columbus a commons parking garage and it was a four min walk from there.

For my birthday, I was happy to try this place out since this location was close to home. Columbus is slowly becoming the place for all things foodie and geeky and I love that for us! This place is located on the 1280 W 5th Street and Northwest Blvd. There is parking in the front, and the restaurant is small and cozy. The seating is for parties of 4 to 5 but arrangements can be made so talk to a server. The menu offered everything from drinks, small place to ramen and I wanted to try more. We got the salt and pepper shrimp, the Kyushu Karaage (Japanese fried chicken), Hot tea and Takoyaki for a group of 5. Everything was piping hot and delicious and lightly seasoned to bring out the flavors of the overall dish. The servers were sweet and extremely helpful for explaining what things were and me, being a ramen nerd, could sit back and relax. I got the Kyushu Black Garlic Tonkotsu. It was so GOOD!! I love the taste of black garlic and the umami in the dish was so pleasant. The noodles were chewy, and the pork slices were so tender. The Tendernism! IYKYK. 5 stars for a great birthday meal that did not break the bank. Well, my friend covered my bill. :)

We spent $230 (w/ tip) and it was worth every penny. Probably the best Japanese restaurant in the city. We passed by this place multiple times on our way elsewhere. We're Mario fans, so the name Yoshi caught our eye, but the cramped strip mall exterior doesn't exactly scream culinary dream. We decided to take a chance, and let me just say--wow. It's an intimate space with just a few tables and an 8-10 seat sushi bar. We didn't have reservations (make one, they fill up fast) but managed to snag seats at the bar. The service immediately stood out. We had better attention here than at some upscale steakhouses--glasses never went empty, and their menu suggestions were spot on. One minor heads-up: at the sushi bar, staff sometimes walk behind you to talk to the chefs, which can be a bit distracting. For starters, we grabbed the gyoza and asked for a standout small plate. They pointed us to the beef tongue. It arrived hot with shredded onions and spicy mustard, delivering a buttery, melt-in-your-mouth tenderness with a deep, beefy richness. The gyoza was equally flawless. Instead of the overly chewy or burnt wrappers you find at most spots, these had a delicate, golden-brown sear with an intensely savory, garlicky umami filling. We paired this with Sayuri sake, a creamy, unfiltered pour that perfectly balanced sweetness with a dry, clean finish. Since we love nigiri, we ordered a spread: tuna, salmon, smoked salmon, sweet shrimp, and Japanese scallop, plus a salmon/avocado roll. The cuts were impeccably sourced and practically dissolved on the tongue. You rarely find this level of consistency. Just a heads up--they prepare it the traditional way, meaning there is a dab of wasabi tucked directly under the fish. We also tried the Wagyu A-5 roll. It's about as "meat and potatoes" as a roll can get: steak, carrots, asparagus, and rice. The seared Wagyu fat melted instantly, creating a decadent, buttery glaze over the crisp vegetables. It's one of those rare foods that genuinely forces you to pause after each bite. At $40, it was 100% worth it. I can't say enough about this experience. Next time, we're leveling up to the fatty tuna and Wagyu experience on their special menu. That's the exact culinary peak we've been looking for, and incredibly, it's tucked inside a suburban strip mall. Absolutely brilliant.

The edamame stood out because they generous with the flaky salt, which I personally loved. Sometimes places hold back, but this was well seasoned. 3. Customer Service (2.5/5) This is where things started to fall apart a bit. I stood at the front for about 12 minutes before being acknowledged, and the restaurant was nearly empty. I had to make eye contact with someone in the kitchen just to be seated. Service at the table wasn't much better. It took about 15 minutes just to get my drink order taken (which I had to flag the waitress down to order), and by that time I was ready to order my whole meal. I ordered an appetizer along with a couple of sushi rolls and some sake. I'm not sure if the waitress wasn't thinking about it, but she brought my rolls out before she even brought out my appetizer or my drink. The inconsistency was noticeable and took away from the experience. 4. Overall Taste (4.5/5) The food absolutely carried! I ordered a sweet potato roll and the Hoonie Roll, which ended up being my favorite part of the meal. Both were fresh, flavorful, and really well-balanced. Paired with the edamame and sake, everything came together nicely. 5. Overall Experience (3.9/5 ) Taking everything into account, the experience lands just under a 4. The food and atmosphere were strong, but the service created a noticeable disconnect. It's definitely one of those places where you'd go back for the food, but you'd hope the service catches up next time.
