HELP we need a good Japanese Steakhouse back in Columbus. When we lost Japanese Steakhouse, we lost the best. Nobody has come close. We've visited Daruma the most because of the salad dressing and the ginger sauce. Unfortunately today was a total disappointment. The ginger sauce had changed, not only did it not taste the same, but it was so salty, it was inedible. Even though we've got our fillets medium rare, they were both overcooked. They no longer do bean sprouts.Instead, they do noodles which are subpar. The only truly good thing about the dinner was my mai thai, which was fantastic. While the show is always fun, it's all about the food for me.When we go to japanese steakhouses, and this just didn't hit the spot, not even close. Disappointing

Quick and friendly staff. Place is large, floor could've used a mop but overall a clean joint. Pepsi products always a hit, and bar drinks were well done with average size and price. Our chef put on a wonderful show for a few first timers in our group. Food was excellent, and plates are very large. All meals were seasoned and cooked properly. Some of the best rice we've had. None of use cared for the salad, but not why we went so no great loss. They get a ding for high prices, for our budget this would be a once a year/special occasion type place due to cost alone.

Pros: Sushi was surprisingly fresh and delicious. Our hibachi master guy was so much fun - it was like getting a free show with our dinner. Our table mates were also a lot of fun. The veggies, rice and noodles were perfectly seasoned and delicious. The service was fantastic. Cons: The restaurant exterior and parking lot are worn out - they do not give a good impression. The hibachi steak and chicken were very tough and lacked seasoning. Least enjoyable part of the meal.

Great service here from the team at Daruma. I went on a Thursday night and felt welcomed from the time we arrived till we left. We stayed in the sushi bar section at a table. There was a party in the back, they were obviously having fun, and a table of young people near the front celebrating a birthday. Definitely good vibes. Food was perfect. Soup and salad with Sushi.

Daruma special was the best! It's always hard for me to choose between hibachi and sushi, because I want both. This time I picked sushi. My Dauma special was so good, so good, SO GOOOD! I could have it everyday! Love it so much. My husband picked the hibachi, everything came so perfect! Even veggies were good too. We both love every meal, started with salad and soup. Absolutely worth 20mins drive from our home :) Service was great, all the staff were so nice and we were very lucky to meet Ladda the owner, such a nice lady! 100% recommend, food is great and your experience will be awesome!

It was my birthday and they made me feel special

I got the veggie hibachi and it was delicious! Our chef was very friendly and entertaining!! I also got the tempura cheesecake for dessert and it was phenomenal! A trip to daruma is not complete without the tempura cheesecake!!

Sushi time!! Sometime when I'm the area, I enjoy stopping by here for a sushi lunch. It's usually quite and not busy, which is ok with me. I've always found that food affordable and good. 2 Shrimp Tempura Rolls and an Eel Roll. The rolls come with a small salad and miso soup. These are some of my favorite rolls to order. While the salad is simThe salads dressing is so good. I feel like it would make cardboard taste good. So good! The sushi was delicious! It always is, which is why I like this place. The server is quiet and meek. Seems sort of shy but friendly. Check this place out and see why I love it!

We spent $230 (w/ tip) and it was worth every penny. Probably the best Japanese restaurant in the city. We passed by this place multiple times on our way elsewhere. We're Mario fans, so the name Yoshi caught our eye, but the cramped strip mall exterior doesn't exactly scream culinary dream. We decided to take a chance, and let me just say--wow. It's an intimate space with just a few tables and an 8-10 seat sushi bar. We didn't have reservations (make one, they fill up fast) but managed to snag seats at the bar. The service immediately stood out. We had better attention here than at some upscale steakhouses--glasses never went empty, and their menu suggestions were spot on. One minor heads-up: at the sushi bar, staff sometimes walk behind you to talk to the chefs, which can be a bit distracting. For starters, we grabbed the gyoza and asked for a standout small plate. They pointed us to the beef tongue. It arrived hot with shredded onions and spicy mustard, delivering a buttery, melt-in-your-mouth tenderness with a deep, beefy richness. The gyoza was equally flawless. Instead of the overly chewy or burnt wrappers you find at most spots, these had a delicate, golden-brown sear with an intensely savory, garlicky umami filling. We paired this with Sayuri sake, a creamy, unfiltered pour that perfectly balanced sweetness with a dry, clean finish. Since we love nigiri, we ordered a spread: tuna, salmon, smoked salmon, sweet shrimp, and Japanese scallop, plus a salmon/avocado roll. The cuts were impeccably sourced and practically dissolved on the tongue. You rarely find this level of consistency. Just a heads up--they prepare it the traditional way, meaning there is a dab of wasabi tucked directly under the fish. We also tried the Wagyu A-5 roll. It's about as "meat and potatoes" as a roll can get: steak, carrots, asparagus, and rice. The seared Wagyu fat melted instantly, creating a decadent, buttery glaze over the crisp vegetables. It's one of those rare foods that genuinely forces you to pause after each bite. At $40, it was 100% worth it. I can't say enough about this experience. Next time, we're leveling up to the fatty tuna and Wagyu experience on their special menu. That's the exact culinary peak we've been looking for, and incredibly, it's tucked inside a suburban strip mall. Absolutely brilliant.

The reservation was for 6pm, we showed up around 5:50 and were sat right away but waited until about 6:20 to order and begin getting soups/salads. Personally I love the mushroom soup and ginger salad, it is SALTY (which I love) but may be too much for others. As for the hibachi part, the cook does a fun show with all the staples - big fire, onion volcano, tossed rice in our mouths! He was very nice and we had a fun time! I ordered the strip and shrimp with fried rice and asked for the strip medium. The portions were HUGE and the food just kept coming. Fried rice, veggies, and shrimp were very yummy but also very salty (no complaints from me!). The strip was definitely more on the rare side which is not my preference but there was so much food it wasn't a huge deal. I had also ordered a tea with my meal and the servers were very attentive with the tea and water giving plenty of refills. For two people, including drinks, we thought the total price was pretty decent for a night out! Overall it was good service, good food, and a fun night! They do use TONS of butter and soy sauce so be cautious if you have a sensitive stomach but I would recommend for a fun dinner night spot!

We agreed, placed our order and received our salad. The restaurant was bright, open and clean. This is our first visit. The ginger dressing was very mild, heavy on the Mayo and thin. Yet still very good. Our chef arrived a few minutes later and my husband's fried rice was the first item prepared. We both agreed it was excellent. Our chef's mastery if the twirling utensils was fun to watch! The salmon was heavily seasoned but delicious and still pink inside; just how I like it! Hubby's shrimp was lightly seasoned and delicious. Food was spot on, service was great and we were happy. Negatives: Egg yolk sauce rasted more like a fried egg not the artery clogging butter and egg yolk rich yumminess we were expecting. Sticky floors: As I was leaving the table, I noticed my shoes were really stinking to the floors. I stopped in the restroom and the stickiness was much worse. I noticed that the walls are stained black for the first 3 inches off the floor telling me they have been mopped using dirty water over and over again. The person mopping slops that dirty water against the edge of the floor/wall. That stain also appeared in the front entry. Other than the floor, the bathroom was fairly clean. We would return next time we travel to this side of town.

The seating is for parties of 4 to 5 but arrangements can be made so talk to a server. The menu offered everything from drinks, small place to ramen and I wanted to try more. We got the salt and pepper shrimp, the Kyushu Karaage (Japanese fried chicken), Hot tea and Takoyaki for a group of 5.
