The area this restaurant is located is not the greatest, but they are up and coming... so I was very surprised when I walked in and saw how clean and beautiful this place was! It honestly looks like a cruise ship! The food displays are immaculate, and everything looks fresh. I love sushi and sashimi and their bar did not disappoint! Everything was fresh, and the flavors were amazing! I tried several items from the buffets and I don't think I had anything that was bad. They have a Pho and a Mongolian bar and I was too full to even eat from them! The waiter and waitresses were very nice, kept up with drink refills and removing our plates quickly. This place looked great and had good reviews so I was very disappointed with the food. Walking in, it was clean with high ceilings, classical music playing and backlit walls. All very impressive. Not too busy on Friday at 11:30 am but it got busier. Service for drinks was very attentive but almost everyone i saw just got water. I asked about Japanese drinks and the waiter said we go to the front and grab those out of a fridge. On to the food. I started with the sushi of which there was a very large selection of both sashimi and sushi rolls, including several different toppings. I was bitterly disappointed that the taste of the sushi was not good. In fact, I could not even eat it except for the fried items which were good, although not really hot. I'm a little embarrassed to say that I did stuff a couple pieces of sushi in a napkin so that it didn't look so wasteful but really I could not eat it. Unfortunately this was my daughter's first time trying sushi so still not sure if she likes it. Onto the other hot dishes, the Asian food such as general Tso chicken, chicken with mushrooms, and beef with peppers was all very good. However, the fried rice just had some color and onion in it, no egg, no carrots, no peas. And the noodles were very basic but edible. The spring roll was very mushy again could not finish that. At this point, I was kind of over trying to find things that I liked and decided to end with some ice cream. There were just little cups of ice cream three different flavors and this was honestly the best part of my meal. My daughter tried three little cakes and she said they were excellent. I'm not sure about the salads and the fried American foods they had but overall I would just say the quality wasn't something I would go back for. There were people that had been there before, seemed like regulars and even had reward card to punch so maybe certain palletes enjoy it. We went on a wednesday around noon. It was $15 per person for lunch. Drinks were $3. Restaurant is pretty new so everything was nice and clean. If you like sashimi or raw sushi, this place is for you as they had more variety for sushi. There was also a hibachi bar and pho bar. My favorites were the shrimp tempura basket, fish filet, hibachi, and rasberry mousse cake. I do like how organized everything was. They had all utensils/seafood crackers/etc. in one area of the buffet, as well as a napkin dispenser at each table. So you can pretty much get everything yourself which is convenient. I skipped lunch, wore my stretchy pants, and came ready to chow down. City Buffet did not disappoint. The buffet selection is primarily Asian cuisine and seafood. The choices include fried and non-fried seafood, sushi, pho, hibachi grill, and chinese restaurant favorites. They also have a few cold salads, soup, a really nice selection of fresh fruit, and desserts. The ice cream is the old school cups with the little wooden spoons. :) The standouts for me were the sushi (very fresh), the mac and cheese, and the hot spinach and cheese casserole. They are really good about replenishing everything on the buffet, and kept making fresh sushi rolls the whole time we were there. Dinner is 18.99 pp during the week and 19.99 pp on weekends (includes Fridays). Definitely a real value for the amount of food. Lunch buffet is only available on weekdays. This is a fantastic buffet and very affordable. It is by the former Target space on W. Broad and it really lovely inside. I was impressed by the variety of food and the food itself. I had sushi and lots of Asian dishes, as well as mashed potatoes and frog legs. The hibachi is in the back, and I chose veggies, noodles, shrimp & chicken to be grilled. Yum. For dessert, there is fruit, little layer cake slices, and cups of ice cream and sherbet. They do not have alcohol, but I had a refillable glass of iced tea. Our server was sweet. We were created warmly when we entered and everything was very clean and well lit. The hibachi was great! So many options this place should even please the picky eater and the price is fantastic. Whoever came up with the idea of buf-fat is like a genius, is like one of those high-end restaurants tasting menu, except you get your own food, and will allow you to eat until you like super fat, that's why it call Buf-Fat, but they don't want to get too obvious, so they spell it as Buf-Fet. I'm just kidding, I totally making that up. I once again searching for Chinese Buffet, and I guess I closed to City Buffet, so it finally popped up when I was doing the research. It was around 2:30-3:00pm, I know... late lunch, I saw the photos on here and like wow, looks good, now while I was on my way, I can't help but thinking I'm a little worry, because 2, 3 and 4pm, many buffet places do not have fresh food, that's like the gap between lunch and dinner, most places that offered buffet will not refill fresh food because that's the slowest time for restaurants. I got charged $18 and change, I guess I was there late and they charged me the dinner price, I think lunch price is $13.99 or something. But whatever, I'm hungry. Walking in, place was nice, unlike some Chinese/American restaurant, always dark and the host and server acting like you just show up and now they have to work, but not here, the guy speak very good English, well manners. After I seated, I just walked around and checked out all their food and....surprisingly, all the food look very fresh, do not look like it been sitting there for awhile, the place is pretty big too, they offer Chinese/American food, Sushi and Hibachi, while I was there, maybe 7-9 tables people on it. I also notice people often checking the food on the buffet table, making sure nothing running low or empty. I seen some other buffet restaurant during that time, some of their tray food are old, all dry up or empty, but not here. Good job! Most important, this actually happens to me a lot, specially at the Chinese restaurant, server do not come check on me, do not refill my drink, and specially slow time, and once again, not here, they often come checked on me, refilled my drink. The City Buffet is a solid addition to the westside dining scene. This space is pretty large and looks nothing like the former Mark Pi's Feast of the Dragon or Hometown Buffet before that. I mean, this place is nice, as in, someone dropped a ton of Benjamin's on totally revamping the space. The food here is excellent in terms of quality and variety. There's all the usual Asian buffet foods as well as a hibachi grill, pho soup station and an impressive selection of sushi and sashimi. Service was very attentive with refills and clearing plates. Price for lunch was $13.99 and Pepsi was $2.99, so prices are quite reasonable for what you get. The westside is now the epicenter of Asian buffets with The City Buffet, Supreme Hibachi and Asian Buffet. A solid 4 stars for this great new addition to the westside of town. And Here's Why It's Not 5 Stars... The Hot and Sour Soup was not good at all. The lo mein was mushy, but had good flavor. They cluster-seat guests together instead of giving space in-between. There's no signage as to what's what on the sushi and sashimi bar. All that being said... I'm up for going back again, soon! read more

Been keeping an eye on this place. It finally opened a couple of weeks ago I think. Met Mike G here today to try it out. Thanks Mike, for a nice lunch and for a little background on the place. It had been a Hometown Buffet and I think I had been here then, years, probably decades ago. Then it was Mark Pi's, and I don't think I went there then. Mike said it is much improved over that. Doesn't look like a whole lot outside. Walk in, and it is new and sleek and shiny. Lots of seating. Not a huge buffet, like supreme, but pretty good-sized. Lots of sushi, some fried foods, some entrées, desserts, etc. Everything looked good. Everything smelled good. Everything I had was good. Service was excellent, although of course minimal since it's a buffet. Price is maybe a little high, but what isn't nowadays? Lunch is I think $14. I tried some sushi, which was pretty fresh. Some fried goods, which were not overly greasy. The chicken skewers were big chunks of tender, tasty chicken. The entrée items were decent cuts of meat, and fresh veggies. All in all, I was very impressed. I would almost give it five stars, because I rate Chinese buffets on a different scale compared to regular Chinese restaurants. I was pleasantly pleased with just about everything I tried except for the very hard to peel shrimp that once peeled was extremely bland. Everything else was good. I don't care what you try you're probably going to like it. The waitress stayed on filling my water cup and removing the empty plates. This is a new place in town and it's amazing. It's very clean and all the wait staff were very nice. The buffet was amazing. They had authentic Chinese food as well as some American favorites. They have a hibachi station in the back and a build your own pho bar. The sushi is really good, I brought a friend with me and we both loved it. A new buffet in town??? We had to check it out ASAP. We used to frequent the previous buffet that was in this location before they tragically closed. The minute we walked into this restaurant we were in awe. It's beautifully redecorated with modern features and amenities. It looks like a shiny diamond in there. After we were seated and our drinks order was taken, we checked out the restroom, which has also been entirely redone and looks lovely and modern. Once we hit the actual buffet we were just aghast with all of the choices available. Shrimp, crab, shellfish, sushi, a habachi grill too. Everything was well seasoned and so delicious. There are many staff members on hand as well to keep the cups full and remove empty plates. They charge $19.99 per person, so make sure you go in hungry and eat more than just the salad!! First thing a noticed about this place is that it looks nothing like a typical Chinese Buffet. It was very well lit and the decor was different but very nice. The place was VERY clean. Even the men's restroom was spotless. The food was a little above average for a Chinese buffet. The sushi bar looked nice, but I don't do sushi so someone else can cover that. Idk what the west side is smoking but this place is gross. Butter soaked everything. Way too salty. Fishy fish. Annoying, intrusive service. Bizarre rules. Absolutely not. We went on Valentine's Day so maybe it was just a bad day but everything sucked. There was a big pile of vomit on the sidewalk outside the front door on our way in. Should have taken that as a sign to go. Again all of the food was really oversalted & had a lot of butter. The Mac & cheese was strange. My bf had one of the cooked mussels with cheese. It really turned his stomach with the rubbery texture & fishy taste. We didn't get to the pho & hibachi bar. We were too disappointed in the sushi & buffet but honestly we didn't make it because we ran out of time. If you didn't know, you're on the clock here. You get 90 mins to eat before they ask you to leave. The servers are constantly watching you walking up & down the aisles. I want privacy when I eat. Not hair, dust, & dead skin falling into my food with someone walking by every 30 seconds. It was way too much. Go away! Then to top it all off you have to eat all your food you bring to the table or they charge you a $10.99/lb food waste fee. lol this didn't happen to us but I mean really? They have potential. It's a really nice space. They're still new so lots of tweaking needs to happen. I might go back like a year from now IF they manage to stay in business. Really sucks. First time here today for lunch. Please is more modern and hip, more than most buffets, restaurant is super clean and staff is very attentive. The buffet had a large selection of sushi rolls including a fried roll and one with cream cheese both my faves. Many rolls to choose from including specialty rolls but their wasabi was a different shade of green but it tasted fine. There was lots of seafood, fish, frog legs, shrimp, salads, usual buffet desserts, but not too many typical Chinese dishes. They did have general tsao, butter chicken and beef n broccoli. They had egg rolls and spring rolls, soup, fruit, Mac n cheese, potato slices, chicken wings. Price was higher than most Chinese buffets but they have seafood and sushi. The sushi rolls were better than I was expecting, but the rest of the food was pretty standard Chinese meh quality. read more

The city buffet is pretty good. It's on Soldano Avenue past the casino off West Broad. Their big claim is they're super new very nice and new. They have a huge sushi area and then they also have a hibachi area and a pho area along with the normal Chinese buffet items. And then they also have takeout. It's a tad pricey good for families good for families with kids single person two people multiple people. It's all good there. Not sure if I'll go there again I might take friends there. read more

This new buffet restaurant had their soft open on January 18th. It is an astonishingly huge space with All You Can Eat Hot and Cold Buffet, mate order hibachi, made to order pho, and a wide selection of pre-prepared sushi and sashimi. They have several nice Seafood selections, including fried fish, steamed fish, stir fried shrimp with vegetables, and cold shrimp peel and eat. The Hibachi also includes bay scallops. I would give five stars but for three bumps in the road. First, the sushi was not always labeled. I'm not an expert to know what it is on sight. Second, the fried fish was a little bit too greasy for my taste. Third, the cold peel and eat shrimp really didn't have much flavor at all. Ok seriously at all these reviews docking stars and thinking they are at a fine dining establishment. As buffets go, this place is legit. The price point is amazing for what you get (we went during lunch on sat which was weekend/dinner prices at $20). I easily ate that much and more with just the sushi and sashimi, they had two sushi chefs constantly replenishing and the sushi/sashimi was fresh and delicious. I tried most of the other hot food options (standard Chinese buffet fare) with some authentic dishes sprinkled in like salt and pepper crab and frog legs. I would have liked to try the pho station as they offered all the quality add in like tripe and tendon but I really just couldn't as I had eaten to being uncomfortably full. I had recently tried a similar new place up near Polaris (hibachi and sushi buffet) for lunch ($20 for lunch and $30 dinner) and it just pales in comparison. Really hoping that his place keeps up with the standard it has set, highly recommend giving them a try and plan to come hungry! read more

The nicest buffet I ever been to. I stopped because I was on a 34 hr reset (I drive trucks) and wanted something different. The parking lot is very big for the people that do drive and would like to try. When you walk it it has a great aroma and the bathrooms and all spaces were very clean. I had multiple plates... my only complaint is they fry the crab but I've seen others do it as well I think they do it on purpose and that's the only thing I didn't see get refreshed the whole time I was there and lots of the sushi was kinda old I could only tell due to how the avocado changed colors so I didn't eat my sushi. I really wanted to try the hibachi but I was too full but my favorite things were the pho, the mussels it had like a cream w/ cheese sauce baked on top and the cucumber salad. I would have tried a lot more but I was too full. I would say it's definitely worth the 21$ and I also had a drink. I gave my waitress a 5$ tip because she was very nice and attentive and people must not tip at buffets because she was extremely grateful. I like it :3 I go primarily for the sushi which is really good for the price you pay. (I can eat a lot and have an extensive palate). Lots of sushi variety. Their fried chicken is a yummy option. Not alway excellent but I will not complain for affordable lunch prices. Their fish actually isn't fishy at all, it's great. Tender and flavorful. I just wouldn't have their steamed white rice (could use more attention). Chinese cuisine often can be heavy and oily so there's that. Fried green beans are yummy yummy. Um, cheesy mussels and mac cheese have a strong mayo presence, so there's that. Not in love but I can deal! Their chicken paw was a pleasant surprise! I don't really go for it, though. Maybe if it was spicy! I respect the 90 minute time limit and them trying to mitigate food waste. I set my timer and go go go! Tip your sushi guys. It all adds up. Their pastry dessert and ice cream isn't my favorite but it's okay, the fruit is good. Unlimited mandarin oranges? My favorite.
