It's one of the best versions I've had at a buffet. The beef with onions is always a winner with flavorful strips of beef stir fried with plenty of onions in a savory sauce that had great flavor. Not tough or overcooked, which is a common issue at buffets. I also really enjoyed the rice noodles, they were soft and well seasoned, with a nice wok hei char that made them stand out from the usual plain steamed rice or fried rice options. Overall, this place is a great value with a wide variety including sushi, seafood, and Mongolian grill options, though some other items can be hit or miss depending on the day. 8/25/25 Today I made it back after 8 months. This is my favorite Chinese Buffet. Atmosphere 5/5 Really well maintained restaurant which does a good job of projecting modern elegance. Food 5/5 I tried several buffets in the area but I'm a fan of this restaurant for the freshness of offerings, food turnover, food temperatures and very clean serving stations. Tonight was chopstick heaven with fine Rice Noodles, grilled green beans, mushrooms, Chow-mien, dumplings and the best Egg Drop soup! Service 5/5 We've always had great service here. This used to be a favorite spot to take a drive and enjoy some crab legs and Chinese food. We arrived from our 26 minute drive to no crab leg on the line. We waited over 25 minutes for them to replenish. The food quality was poor, lacked flavor, poor cuts of meat and the dining room is just run down. It's gone down hill and not worth driving back out. First visit here. Came on a Sunday with a group of 4. Greeted immediately, sat us, and got our drink orders in. Server was friendly. Fast service to clear plates and offer refills. I saw someone spill from their plate to the floor, and the spill was quickly tended to. Seafood & sushi tasted really fresh. Tried basically a bite of everything offered except the made to order Mongolian grill station. The only item I didn't like was the beef rib, but that's because it's prepared with a sweet taste, so it was more personal preference. I would definitely return. Senior get a 10% discount. read more

Came here on a Tuesday afternoon around 5, and it was somewhat busy but no wait and I was able to get a table inmediately. When it comes to aesthetics, this is my favorite Chinese buffet, it's very soothing and they have a good amount of decorations and it looks "fancy". The servers are friendly and quick as well. As far as the food, I can only compare it to other places I've been, and there's not a huge selection. There was plenty for me to try and eat, but not a lot. And the quality is a hit or miss, but that's with all buffets. I spent about $24 with a tip for a table of one, so it's not the cheapest place to eat, but you can eat as much as you want so I think it's worth it. They have good quality sushi and sashimi, but once again, not a lot of variety. Overall if I'm in the area I would return again! People in Mesa seem to be pretty evenly divided. We prefer China City, but I think it comes down to personal preference. There are lots of great places to eat in Mesa, but any time we think about going out to eat (like tonight), China City is the first thing that comes to mind! Decided to try China City for lunch today and what a disappointing experience. There are so many choices, yet nothing we tried tasted good or had any flavor at all. The pork dumplings were raw in the middle, and the pot stickers were so tuff you could barley cut them in half with your knife. None of the chicken, honey, orange, pineapple, or teriyaki had any flavor. The crab salad tasted like straight vinegar. The soads tasted like club soda and the fortune cookies were smashed. Our waitress said she would let her manager know, and when the manager came over and restarted to express our disappointment she started talking in Chinese to another waitress and walked off before we finished our sentence. Looking at previous reviews the food wasn't all bad . The carving station was not well maintained and the food looked old and extremely dry. Sushi station was good. All other food was freshly prepared and was hot. Salt and pepper shrimp was good, nice crunch and it didn't have a head on it like other buffets. Beef and broccoli was nice. My favorite dish was the buffalo chicken skewers. But all the other food was good. Place was clean and had low music. Now for the funny part, the lady who sat us brought out our drinks but never came back to check up on us (refills, empty plate pick up or extra napkins) when I ask for the bill that's when she came. I went to go pay and the cashier got bothered when she asked me "I should leave a tip and the amount is on the bottom of the receipt. I laughed and asked her you serious. I've gone to China City since the day they opened for business. i decided to eat lunch there today. The food was fresh, hot and very tasty. The waitress brought my check and I gave her my debit for payment. I always leave cash for a tip, I never add it to the debit card therefor I always write o in the tip section. when the waitress return to take the payment she lookEd at the receipt and gave me a unpleasant look! She Angerly ask me why I didn't leave her a tip! "Excuse me" I replied I always leave a cash tip for their service, she said something in her native language , grabbed the payment and stormed off! I am not a connoisseur of Chinese buffets, but I do like Chinese food as it is presented in my neck of the woods. We try not to eat at chains and prefer Chinese restaurants run by actual Chinese staff. This place visually seems to meet the criteria, but the food I tried was either too fatty, void of flavor and just tasted...yes tasted like something.
