I've been going to this restaurant since the 1980s. They've got the same waiter there (Dave) it has been there for 20+ years. Their prices are a lot higher than other local Chinese restaurants. If you go there 30 minutes before closing and you don't finish eating, you'll get kicked out. I got there 20 minutes before their lunch break and exactly break time they threw me out of the restaurant. Dave made me leave and I hadn't finished my lunch. I'm never going back to that place. I ordered a to go pick up order from Yen Ching last night. I wasn't feeling well and didn't want to cook and I really wanted the Egg Flower soup for my stomach. I ordered from their online menu and when I paid, the bill was significantly more than I expected. Because I was sick I did not take the time to go over the receipt while I was there and just wanted to get home. I checked the prices this morning and EVERY ITEM was different from their menu prices according to the paper menu they gave me with my order. It was a difference of almost $10! I called the restaurant just a little while ago and he said that yes, they were aware of it and that those prices were about 10 years old and he didn't know why "they" hadn't fixed it yet. So, BUYER BEWARE!! The gentleman I spoke with made no offer to make it right or to adjust the total on my next order. Poor business practice to say the least. I would normally give them a higher rating but because they were aware of the issue and have made NO ATTEMPT to correct the site or to adjust my bill in any way, I gave them only a two star rating. They are knowingly taking advantage of people who order from their online menu and they should ask people when they place an order if that's what they are using and if so, inform them that those prices ARE NOT accurate. read more

Horrible service. After eating I was having tea with my friend for 10 min and a tall man came over and said "you need to leave" I a very loud/aggressive way. Quality has fallen off over the past 15 years. Not just food, but the service as well. This used to be my go-to spot for Chinese food. Last time I was there, the cook and manager were arguing very loudly. The restaurant smells strange in general. Pro tip: check the silverware. Every time I've gone at least 3 pieces of silverware hasn't been walked properly. Restrooms are messy every time I have visited the restaurant. With standards falling lower with every year, I just have to stop paying them for poor service and mediocre food. Save your money and go somewhere else. read more

This place has been the same owner for years! I was recently turned onto this place by Dr. Michael Kenney who owns Kenney Chiropractic on Power Rd about a block away. He suggested the lunch menu and I ordered the spicy Kung Pao shrimp. The owner herself was taking our order and managing the restaurant. The restaurant, while a little dated looking, was very well kept and clean. The food came out quickly and it was tasty! I ordered a Mongolian beef to go for my co-worker who also enjoyed his food. Called to order an egg fried rice as I was visiting Banner Baywood and it was right around the corner. Paid $14 even and the fried rice was tasteless, I tasted a brunt taste . Rice is over cooked and a bit soggy like they heated the rice over and over again. Kinda like a Panda Express fried rice taste. Came here for the first time a few months ago and the service was great. Even left with a bag of tea and left a tip in cash. Came in today and the food was completely off, the service was even worst. Was the same two people as the first time and after not getting the service we expected, we ended up leaving early instead of eating the off tasting food. Went to pay the bill and notified the main waiter of the bad service and his response was completely appalling. He stated "your service was bad this time because you no leave tip last time." Like "WHAT!?" Who does that!? We indeed left a tip last time & the fact that this guy felt so comfortable saying this in front of the entire restaurant very loud? Went in on Thursday and parked at about 3:20pm. Upon arriving though, I checked on Yelp and it said on their business page that they were open now, and that they were open on that day until 9pm. We called on our way, since I do live a bit far and we wanted to make sure it was open, but nobody answered. We parked and this place was empty. The food was reasonably priced for the portions. Please give me all the MSG - it's more authentic. The sesame chicken was lightly breaded and crispy, hot in the center like Takoyaki - so delish. Egg rolls were amazing - especially with their signature house hot mustard and sweet sour sauce. Also had some chicken lo mein which wasn't overly greasy like some places. Tonight we enjoyed our New Years dinner at our favorite restaurant and as we were waiting up front to be seated (they were very busy), a woman walked out and told us "don't bother" (I think she just left the recent one star review) but our food was fantastic tonight and I'm glad we "bothered" to come! It did take a little longer than normal to get the food but they had a ton of to-go orders & the restaurant was fairly full when we sat down. It is a holiday so we expected to have a little more of a wait than normal. We always get the sesame chicken and crab puffs when we go and have never been disappointed. This used to be our go to for Chinese food. However, it has become the one place we will never go to again! We ate there tonight, and service was horrible. It took forever for our egg rolls to come out, and our dinner came out before we were finished with the egg rolls. Another couple came after us, and they must be regulars, because the waiter fawned all over them, and their egg rolls and entree came out BEFORE ours. Yen Ching has the best Chinese food in Az. My family has been coming here for over 20 years. We now live in North Phoenix and drive 45 minutes to go every few weeks because it's that good! Some dishes that we get every single time are egg rolls, crab ranguines, and the kung pao shrimp are our absolute favorites but lots of other delicious items! They serve a tea with the meal and it's such a nice touch. Also david remembers practically everyone I bring in and always greets us with a smile! There were two servers helping people, and they both made eye contact with us, yet nobody acknowledged us. We waited about 5 minutes, then left. Had someone just acknowledged us, that would have been fine, we would have waited. On a side note, the metal stapler at the front desk is beige, and it is filthy. The lunch specials here are really good! I came to YenChing intending to get an early dinner, and didn't even realize they had lunch specials. I also didn't realize they are closed for a short while between lunch and dinner so it's a good thing I came in when I did and caught the tail end of lunch (ends at 2:30...I think they reopen at 4:30 for dinner). With the exception of a few things most lunch specials are $8.95. That includes soup of the day (we had egg drop), a crab puff, and a chicken wing. None of it will blow you away but it's all solid and quite a bit of food to start your lunch with. They also have complimentary hot tea. I like when Chinese restaurants do that. I got the tofu/bbq pork family vegetable dish. It was really good! It came with only a few thinly sliced pieces of pork, but it was still good. The brown garlic sauce was delicious! It also came with fried rice. Our server was VERY friendly. I'd definitely come back here for lunch when I'm in the area. read more
