This place is truly terrible. The service was horrible and the food was also. I always approach yelpers reviews with a grain of salt because their rating can be based off of other things rather than their food experience. But this place, people have it right when it comes to negative reviews. The man behind the counter was very unapproachable. He was glued to the tv that was playing. Mind you, this was during middle of the day, midweek. There was not one person dining inside. We had our 2 year old son. My boy is pretty well behaved and easily manageable with his snacks. Well when asked if we wanted to dine in or take away, we opted for dining in since we had business in the area. The man immediately said no, our sink is leaking and said we had to leave. I wanted to cancel our order and ask for our money back as soon as he said that, but my husband was trying to just get the food as soon as possible and leave. So we thought, hopefully the food would at least be decent, but it was disgusting. The orange chicken was too crunchy and the fried rice was more like browned white rice. No flavor or seasoning. My husband's Mongolian beef was mostly vegetable and hardly any meat. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy. Even drove out of my way paced a few to come here. come to find out when I get here 30 minutes after time of open (regardless they should prep before that) that they have no rice or food ready and any order would take 30 minutes plus with ZERO customers. King's Chef Chinese food has become my goto place when I am craving some black pepper beef or what ever else the cravings are. I always do a pick order and can tell you every time I order the food is delsih! I have ordered black pepper beef, Mongolian beef, Kung Pao chicken, vegetable Lo Mein. Every dish also comes with a side of white rice too. Service has always been friendly and fast, ordering by phone is very easy and by the time I drive their its already completed. If you haven't tried King's Chef yet, you really should! They have great lunch specials too. read more

This is my favorite restaurant, they have the best sweet and sour chicken. I have tried many places and I always come back here because the quality of the food. The staff is so nice and friendly and every time I call to place a Togo order they are so efficient and get it right every time. I honestly recommend this place to anyone and put my boyfriend on to this restaurant and he loves their teriyaki chicken. Let's start with the tolerable part of my experience, the food was good. I ordered it extra spicy although it was not, but it was good moving onto the service. Poor service is acceptable at times. But when it comes to trying to rip off the public is unacceptable my friend and I had lunch there today and was told when we walked in that there were parts of the kitchen that were broken, and the full menu was not available. As we sat there, I overheard three different Customers being told three different reasons as to why the the lunch menu specials were not available at the special lunch menu prices, which is the reason why we went there in the first place, knowing that we probably would not have stayed. The ambience of the restaurant is your typical little bit of oriental very small. Every other time that my friend and I have gone there for lunch, the nine dollar lunch special is served by a lady that is very sweet very kind and attentive to whatever you need. The gentleman that was there today is obviously the owner and in my opinion, just trying to make money . I can tell that it was him just padding the bill and making people pay for him not making money this month my friend and I have decided we won't be back anytime soon unless the suite kind lady is at the counter. read more

Service was prompt, nice guy. Restaurant very clean, comfortable seating . Food, I ordered sweet-and-sour pork lunch special came with fried rice, one wonton one eggroll and egg flour drop soup. For like a little over 10 bucks. Sweet-and-sour pork was very delicious. I liked it put own sauce on it and good amount. Fried rice not so great over sauce with soy and did not eat it. Egg flour soup, was kind of bland not so great. Will not get that again. Eggroll was seasoned well little mushy inside. Wonton very small. But was OK. I told the guy that it was for there he must not heard me gave it to me and to go containers, I still sat there and ate, and he did not offer any water. Other people came in they sat down and he gave them water. It was my first time there, probably my last time too, but on a quick sweet-and-sour pork that I like, I may pick it up but the entrée just that is like $15 so I'm not sure I would do it again. I love this place. I usually go about once a month, and honestly, I'd drive across town just for their food. I've never ordered anything I didn't like. King Chef always gives you huge portions for a really fair price. My go-to is the Kung Pao Chicken dinner (it comes with cream cheese wontons and spring rolls), and it never disappoints. The owners are also some of the kindest, hardest-working people you'll meet. If you're looking to support a local business and eat really good food, this is the spot. read more

The owner was rude and very unprofessional pointing at thing and was rushing us. He assumed and did not ask if we were dining in or getting it to go. When we requested drinks, he said what do you want? and we told him we wanted drinks with the ice, and he said it was flat soda and pointed us to the refrigerator to pick drinks he had overpriced. The whole time he was coughing really hard and clearly, he was ill and not well. We requested hot mustard and go some oily pastie mustard that was awful with no flavor. We later seen some different spicy mustard in the beverage refrigerator. To sum it up the table was dirty, salt and paper shakers and the napkin holders. DO NOT EAT HERE!!! Please. FOUND A WHOLE DEAD COCKROACH IN MY FRIED RICE!!!! We live 5 mins from this place & have ordered a takeout a couple of times in the past...The food is MEDIOCRE & we've always just ordered to support a small bizz & quite frankly, out of convenience bc it's so close to us. And tonight, we ordered a takeout for the same reason, convenience. Picked up food to take to my in-laws with my husband & my 3 yo. But NEVER again. What we ordered: Teriyaki chicken combo, orange chicken combo, veggie lo mein, chicken fried rice & a side of white rice. We got to my in-laws, we started eating & after I had a few bites of the lo mein & orange chicken, I scooped up some fried rice. As I was chewing the rice, I looked down & saw a dead cockroach about the size of a thumbnail IN MY RICE! I instantly threw my food up in my napkin & ran into the kitchen. Then I got nauseous & threw up. A cockroach can carry a bacteria that can contaminate the surrounding foods & cause harm to humans. Google it. I call the restaurant & she tells me, "Oh, that can be gross...hang on...ok, I can issue a refund for the chicken fried rice, but that's it." Excuse me??? I packed up all the food (that we barely ate-EVERYONE lost their appetite, but not only that, we were seriously concerned for our health, especially with my 3 year old) & headed back to the restaurant. I recorded the last 6 mins of our interaction as I forgot to hit record from the very beginning. Basically I expressed that this was NOT acceptable & that all this food we consumed could be contaminated, who knows if we'll get sick later on & I need a full refund on my order. The front cashier lady told me that she isn't worried about that as the restaurant has insurance & that she's ONLY authorized to give me a refund on the chicken fried rice. I literally brought the whole order back!! We kept going back & forth...She proceeded to tell me that it's the only cooks & her that's working & that there's nothing she can do. I advised her that she should call the manager/owner WHO HAS AUTHORIZATION to give me a full refund. She kept repeating that the owners who were also the managers weren't going to show up at the restaurant. Is she ok??? I only wanted her to call them so that I could get a full refund. What was she even saying. Then all she kept saying was, "I'm sorry, I just work here & you have to have a code to give full refunds." Huh??? DO YOUR JOB THEN! Where's your MOD? Call them & figure it out. Then she says to me that she feels like I'm trying to bully her. ‍ Lastly, she wrote down my phone number & told me that I'm going to get a full refund eventually & that she'll contact the owners to give me cash back the next day. She said she starts work at 11am & she will call me for me to come in to get that refund. Whoever is reading this can decide WTF is right in this situation, but King's Chef in Mesa will NEVER EVER get my business EVER again. As I'm writing this, my tummy is feeling funny...GREAT! ‍ Best believe I'll be contacting all necessary authority; AZ health department, etc & reporting them immediately. I'm bummed that tonight is a Friday night & tomorrow is Saturday because no health dept is open on the weekends. We love the people we love the food. The House Special Lo Mein is my favorite extra spicy. They make their hot mustard and chili paste in house and I do not know where you can get anything like it any where else. My wife's favorite is their buffalo wings crispy. The service was alright, but I will be honest the food was awful. I am the biggest egg drop soup fan, but this was not it. It left an awful taste in my mouth and was not appetizing. I only had a couple spoonfuls and I couldn't eat any more! I also ordered the orange chicken combo. The egg roll was delicious I will give them that, but as for the orange chicken, it was awful. Right when I walked in, I was greeted by a nice, friendly woman. Food was fresh & fast - perfect for lunch time during a work day! The lunch combo is a great deal & at a superb price. There are tons of condiments from you to choose from: Sriracha, chili oil, hot mustard etc. The lady that was working the FOH was super attentive. Glass did not go unnoticed; refills 100%, she even offered one to-go. When I ordered my meal, I ordered an appetizer to-go for later - she timed it perfectly, it came out as soon as I was finishing my meal. A+ food. A+ service. And that egg drop soup YUM. My wife and I used to like this place. It's close and decent food. We haven't gone in a while but decided to eat here tonight.
