I have been eating here bi-monthly for almost 3 years now, and what I experienced last night was a nightmare-MSG! The sheep go bah and the cow goes moo. This place is a cattle drive. Lines out the door constantly. Big 10lb. buckets of food being brought out at a time from the back. This strip mall is shady and home to the great Country Donuts, McDonald's and Long Beach Thai. If your ends are low. One 2 item combo ought to feed you for about 3 days. I prefer dining here for cheap chinese fast food. Next to that would be pick up stix. There's always a line out the door, it's always busy. But that line moves pretty quick. Is the food amazing? It's decent, cheap. I douse the food at times with hot sauce and soy sauce at times. Man the portion they give is just worth the cost and it's also close to home. Friendly? Sometimes. But they're so busy all the time packing. Not having an actual break to relax that I know it can get exhausting. I used to work at See's and during the holiday you get so much back pain. This place right here is a must try. The service is quick, the portions are enormous, and it is cheaper than most Chinese establishments I have visited. The employees are very nice and enthusiastic, the interior is cozy and has a lot of seating, even a bathroom! The only thing preventing this review from being a 5/5 is that it is cash only and they do not provide water cups, other than that a great place where you most definitely get your bang for your buck. A friend recommended this place to me. He was right about it being a good deal. $6 for 2 entrees, chow mein, fried rice, an egg roll and a can of Coke. The entrees were pretty good (Orange chicken, mixed veggies) but the rice wasn't anything special. I do the majority of my shopping at the Ralph's, which is right next to this place, and ALWAYS see a line out the door. A couple of weeks ago, I was on my way out of Ralph's, headed to the bus stop on Anaheim, and think "Maybe I should try this place if there are so many people here?" Then I see a huge roach, squashed just outside the entrance. Just last week, I was walking along the back side of the strip mall where it's located, and a HUGE roach (and I'm talking, the biggest dang roach I've *EVER* seen) comes running from the general vicinity of the back kitchen entrance to this place. The same sidewalk, where thirty minutes prior, the kitchen staff was washing off the grills and random things from the kitchen (which were resting ON the sidewalk) with cold water and soap, while smoking up a storm. Wow. A real life Soup Nazi experience right here in Long Beach! The servers are all impatient Asian women who talk smack at you if you're not sure what you want to eat by the time you make it to the counter. They also gossip to each other in their own language. It's like a freakin' nail salon in here. No "Hello". No "How are you?" Just "What do you want?" "Uh, 2 item combo with just fried rice..." "Sides?" "Um.." "SIDES?" "Orange Chicken." "Then?" "Sweet and sour pork." She writes on the box, fills it with fried rice, then passes the Styrofoam tray onto another woman who fills it with Orange Chicken. It then gets passed onto a third woman who puts the sweet and sour pork and the sauce in the Styrofoam, and then a fourth woman handles my food where I pay for it. I felt like I was scooting down the line at the Soup Nazi. The reason they do this is because there is always a line out the door. Not sure why, though. The food is only decent and not worth waiting 25 minutes in line for. I have no idea why this place is so popular. The Orange Chicken was much better than I have had anywhere else, but that's about it. The fried rice is bland and dry and the sweet and sour pork was as hard as a rock and overcooked! Terrible! Large portions, good price and okay Chinese fast food. They need to update their menu prices though. I clearly asked, prior to my order if the price I was asking for included a drink. Not once, but twice and the employee said yes. When it came time to pay for my food, I had to take the drink off my order and I was overcharged. I couldn't dispute the overcharge since they didn't give me the receipt. At the counter, their manager also rolled her eyes and muttered in Cambodian, "Why order something if you don't have the money for it?" The manager clearly didn't think I could understand what she was saying. Luckily, at least the employee who answered me incorrectly looked embarassed and sympathetic. It wasn't worth picking a fight and all I wanted was to eat. I sat myself down in their seating area but then I decided to get up and leave to eat elsewhere because of the experience. This place is my favorite place of its kind so far in Long Beach. You really can't complain about the price, for under $6 you get a two item combo and a small drink. The rice is pretty bland so I usually get all chow mein instead of 1/2 n 1/2. The service here is not bad at all, I don't really see how any place that doesn't have servers could have bad service. Standard affair, you point at what you want, they put it in a box, you pay. There isn't too many ways to muck up that equation. Also, I have noticed people complaining about the wait, and the crowding that can occur here. When has that been a negative thing at Chinese takeout? This is a testament to the tastiness of it, and more people ensures that food doesn't stand and get cold. I'd rather wait for quality then get Panda Express or Pick-Up Stix. The Orange Chicken here, what can I say? It is so crisp and insanely orange-y. You can almost taste the peels, and it stays with you too. Honestly, I have only had that and the Chicken and Mushrooms, which is also fantastic. They really pile it in there too so its easy to lose yourself in the flavor and feel like you are ready to burst afterward. Bottom line is that its an above-average takeout place with the staples you have come to know and love. Mostly just OK food, with a surprise here and there, and value you can depend on. Chinese food-When I think of these two words together, I expect it to be CHEAP and for there to be PLENTY of it. That's exactly what you get here. I've been coming here for as long as I can remember (15+ years), especially because I grew up in this neighborhood. ALSO, I've only ordered food here TO-GO. TASTE-To be honest, fast food Chinese food is only so good and is NEVER "good" for you in terms of salt content, etc., so I will not be telling you that this food is amazing or anything. However, compared to Panda Express and many other fast food Chinese that I've had, this place has a unique taste that I enjoy and keep coming back for throughout the years, no matter where I move to. I refuse to eat or pay for Panda Express considering the better taste and fair prices located here. I love the chow mein and orange chicken here-the classics. From time to time, I also get pepper chicken, kung pao chicken, beef broccoli, and green been chicken. I did notice today that the chow mein noodles are a bit thinner than usual. SUMMARY- Quantity is awesome. Quality is consistent and better than most. Remember this place is FAST FOOD. BEWARE of rush hours at lunch time and dinner. The line will be out the door and beyond! Love this place. I even waited in a long line to order a combo plate. I recommended everyone to try this place if u like Chinese food. Very affordable with good portion. The chow mein was PASTA! Like wth? Chow mein is suppose to be thick and yummy but no, we got freaking pasta and you could tell since most of our chow main was white and the soy sauce made it look "orange" The orange chicken didn't taste like anything but bland chicken with no taste. The beef and broccoli the same. Food tasted horrible. I usually take the food home to finish the rest the next day or that same day but me and my husband threw that shit away. Orange chicken is overdrenched with the sauce and then sits under the lamp so it is soggy and gummy, not crispy and light like it should be, the bbq pork is too fatty, broccoli beef has a funny fishy taste to the meat, the chow mein is greasy, fried rice is just rice with soy sauce there is no other flavor, the only saving grace is the spicy chicken wings these are chicken wings that are fried crispy and then coated with a spicy, sweet, sour sauce that has pineapples in it. My favorite dish and the only reason I would come here since I know of no other chinese place (restaurant or fast food) that makes it. The wings are nice and meaty, not scrawny like some other places. Only be careful, because on occasion I have found feathers still attached to the wings which can make me gag and toss the entire plate. Service - 1 star, I should give them zero stars, since I've actually been mocked at by the workers there since I'm asian married to a black woman, but there is one lady who works there that is always friendly and works really hard. The other workers are so legarthic and apathetic you can tell they are probably chinese immigrants working off their fee to come to america.
